    The Island Years

Quite simply the albums by Sparks, Kimono My House, Propaganda, Indiscreet and Big Beat, represent one of the most exciting, inventive and witty musical sequences of the 1970s. Written in the main by Ron Mael and sung with his brother Russell's unique Élan, across the set can be found classic, era-defining singles like 'This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us', 'Never Turn Your Back On Mother Earth', 'Get In The Swing' and 'Looks Looks Looks'.

But that's not all: the fifth LP in the box rounds up all of the band's Island B-sides from the period, most of which have never been available on vinyl before, while the tracks 'Looks Aren't Everything' and 'Intrusion/Confusion' are making their debut on vinyl. The set, with its faithful recreation of all original sleeves, is released with the full involvement of the brothers Mael, who took time out of their all-conquering FFS tour to approve artwork and is pressed on 180 gram vinyl. The cut was overseen by long-term Sparks associate Bill Inglot.

    The Hissing Of Summer Lawns

Originally released in 1975, The Hissing Of Summer Lawns is a stunning work of art conceived graphically, musically and lyrically as a whole. Leaning even more towards the jazz idiom than her previous release, Court and Spark, the collection features the introduction of the great Burundi on drums and is highlighted by the excellent guitar playing of frequent session collaborators Larry Carlton and Robben Ford. As adventurous and lyrically deep as anything Joni Mitchell has ever done.

Collaborations don't work, or that's what FFS would have us believe on their debut
album. When the seminal Los Angeles duo Sparks and Glasgow-based quartet
Franz Ferdinand decided to record together, it was a flawed and potentially
disastrous idea, right? Wrong, as FFS is one of the strongest albums of either bands'

Produced by Grammy-award winning John Congleton (St Vincent, David Byrne)
at London's RAK Studios, the album FFS took 15 days to complete. 'Kimono My
House'-era Sparks fans will recognize how FFS highlights their classic pop rock DNA,
and Franz Ferdinand fans won't be dissapointed to hear the band at their peak of
their powers as they bring their exhilaratingly unique and witty modern rock sound
    to the collaboration.

Very much a new project, FFS doesn't truly sound like either band, but a striking and
fascinating mutation. "The real motivation was to make something new, not 'Franz
featuring Russell Mael', or 'Sparks with Franz Ferdinand backing them," says Alex
    Kapranos (of Franz Ferdinand).

"You can't chart what is Sparks and what is Franz Ferdinand," suggests Ron Mael (of
Sparks). "I think each band unconsciously relinquished a little of who they were in
    order to enter new territory."

So in the right hands, collaborations DO work, and beautifully. The strength of the
two bands is bigger than the sum of the parts.

Grammy and Ivor Novello award winning recording artist Imogen Heap will release her highly anticipated 4th solo album Sparks in 2014 through RCA Records.

Sparks has been on a well traveled journey, one which Heap began at 6am 14 March 2011, with a live stream from her home studio in a small village on the outskirts of London, gathering 'sound seeds' from fans and weaving them together to form the first song (Lifeline). Fast forward, 4 continents later, a dozen related projects and 14 tracks, the album cover artwork was then completed by those who pre-ordered the limited edition, super deluxe box set by sending in their footprints! The stunning piece of artwork and packaging, designed and developed over the past three years by Imogen and her creative team with CSV (the company behind Radiohead's special packaging) it is the very first time that Imogen has released such a super deluxe package.

Says Heap, The album began with someone sending in the sound of striking a match for what became Lifeline in March 2011. I then dived into the most immense, intense creative 2 and a half years of my life that took me all over the planet, collaborating on so many projects with so many people and often totally spontaneously. The album is then in some ways for me grounded with fans' footprints bringing the finishing touch for the album art, as so many of them came along for the ride.

While working on Sparks, Heap turned songs into projects and projects into songs, to bring her out of her studio and 'let life in' rather than postponing things until her album was done. This fresh approach found Imogen collaborating with everyone from her fans to unsuspecting passers-by, gardeners to filmmakers, scientists to newspaper journalists and brings us her most diverse and daring body of work to date. From the River Thames (You Know Where To Find Me) to 5000 feet up in the Himalayas (Climb to Sakteng, Cycle Song), from her local community garden (Neglected Space) to 6 weeks in the Chinese metropolis of Hangzhou (Xizi She Knows), Heap was soaking it up, writing, developing, recording and producing. Sounds of a dishwasher door to a Bhutanese dranyen, the voice of a crumbling wall to 700 fans' becoming a spoken word chorus. Some of Heap's projects include her brilliant Mi.Mu Gloves, developed over this album period with an incredible team of scientists, engineers and artists (Me The Machine) and dabbled in generative and reactive music with music app developers RJDJ (Run-Time) connected to a jogging app. From the deeply personal love songs Propeller Seeds and Entanglement to the crowd sourced response to the Sendai earthquake (Lifeline), her trademark honesty runs through the album.

The Beachwood Sparks are space cowboys -- although their self-titled debut most closely recalls the sound of vintage Laurel Canyon country-rock, its shimmering twang-pop melodies and gorgeous harmonies bask in a kind of interstellar psychedelia which lends the album an otherworldly glow. The hypnotically dreamlike instrumental passages which wind their way through luminous country-pop moments like Sister Rose, Something I Don't Recognize, and Old Sea Miner completely transform the album's chemical makeup. Rooted in the earth but reaching for the stars, the group realizes Gram Parsons' Cosmic American music aesthetic in its truest sense.

"One of the country's most energizing performers," (Rolling Stone Country) Drake White is officially burning up trails and charts with the release of his forthcoming debut album, Spark, on Dot Records.

The foot-stomping singer/songwriter - and nature enthusiast - teased the news to his Firestarters during his Fan Club Party and shared the announcement on the red carpet at the 2016 CMT Music Awards.

Since we began this journey- working on the album-I knew I wanted the title to be SPARK," said White who Billboard calls, "confident, energetic presence with a mix of gravel, soul and gospel in his voice ." "The idea of starting a fire from a tiny spark has always been so intriguing to me. That's the way I have always lived my life; starting with a small plan and then it becomes this dream I didn't even know to dream."

White's SPARK album cover tells the visual story of who Drake White is as an artist, husband and native-Alabamian. The images imprinted into his silhouette paint a narrative of White's life, including his wife Alex, his hometown church where his grandfather served as preacher, his dog Writer and other mementos that inspired his first full length album for Dot.

Now at 12 years of releasing albums and touring the globe countless times, Cancer Bats have become a well-known force within the world of heavy music. 2018 sees them embarking on the newest chapter of their career by self-releasing their 6th studio album Worldwide.

With strong personal connections built over the years of relentless DIY style touring, the band feels closer to their fans than ever. That connection fuels their confidence in abandoning the traditional record label structure. Singer Liam Cormier comments "From all the years of touring, we know half of the room we play to by name, and that's every night in every country. I can't wait to put the record, we release ourselves, in all of my friends' hands when we go and see them around the World."

This confidence is only matched by the excitement and raw energy coursing through the 11 tracks that make up the new album 'The Spark that Moves'. With the band combining their most melodic moments with arguably their most aggressive. Drummer Mike Peters and lead bass player Jaye Schwarzer seamlessly colliding together like two wild beasts, while guitarist Scott Middleton blasts a layer of destruction over top, only to be thunderously led by singer Liam Cormier's now fully formed melodic arsenal.

Ranked 111/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Court And Spark completed Joni Mitchell's transition from folk-singer to sophisticated rock auteur. In addition to her meticulously crafted melodies and evocative, image-rich lyrics, the songs here are breezy and immediately appealing. This is in part due to Tom Scott's L.A. Express, a sinuous jazz-based combo, but also to Mitchell's knack for pop hooks. The album's accessibility made it Mitchell's most commercially successful, yet the personal intensity and insight of her songwriting never wavers. Court And Spark confirmed her standing as one of the most important and subtle talents of the rock era.

The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys

    40th Anniversary!

Mastered from the Original Island Records Tapes by Joe Reagoso at Friday Music Studios with Kevin Gray

Traffic was one of the premier architects of the acid rock movement in the '60s and blossomed further into one of the most important super groups of the '70s. Their recordings are the soundtrack to a generation of music enthusiasts that continues to this day and will forever stand the test of time.

In 1972, the legendary founding members Stevie Winwood, Jim Capaldi and Chris Wood sojourned on after a smash outing with John Barleycorn Must Die and continued the winning streak with the groundbreaking classic The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys. Along with new members Jim Gordon (Derek & The Dominoes), Rick Gretch (Blind Faith) and Rebop Kwaku Baah, Traffic was back and on a roll artistically unlike many other important acts of the classic rock era.

Known for more than its amazingly cube shaped album cover, the multi-faceted music inside was a non-stop enjoyment of sounds never heard or recorded since. Whether standout tracks from the pens of Jim Capaldi like the hard rocking Light Up Or Leave Me Alone or the powerful balladry of ancient sounds with the Winwood/Capaldi classic Rainmaker, this brilliant album will most certainly be known forever for its classic title track, the massive twelve minute plus epic, The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys. Filled with explosive sax breaks by the late Chris Wood, the piano driven and vocal delivery of master musician legend Stevie Winwood and the percussive vibrations of the late great Jim Capaldi, Jim Gordon and the late Rebop Kwaku Baah, the song was destined to become a huge success.

Friday Music presents the Traffic/Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series as we begin with our first installment with their monumental classic of the ages The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys. Mastered impeccably by Joe Reagoso from the original Island Records tapes at Friday Music Studios with Kevin Gray, The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys is a truly one of the most important audiophile vinyl releases of this year. To make this an even more enjoyable limited edition happening, for a very short time, we are also going back to the original Tony Wright designed cube shaped die-cut album cover, for the first time in North America since its 1972 release!

When Matisyahu's groundbreaking original live album, Live at Stubb's, was released in 2005, it launched him onto Top 40 radio with his now most-recognizable anthem King Without a Crown. The album reached #1 on the Billboard Reggae Album Chart.

Now with three critically acclaimed studio albums to his name, Matisyahu decided to return to where it all-began. On a hot August night in Austin, TX, in the summer of 2010, he took the stage at the famed music venue Stubb's with his band, Brooklyn's The Dub Trio, for an unforgettable live music experience. Showcasing his incredible artistic evolution, Matisyahu unveiled the brand new song Open The Gates and performed songs that span his lauded catalog, including selections from 2004's Shake Off The Dust...Arise, 2005's Live at Stubb's, 2006's Youth and 2009's Light.

With a re-discovered love for roots reggae and improvisation at the core of his live show, Matisyahu brilliantly re-vamped the vocal and instrumental arrangements, elevating each song to new heights. From album opener Kodesh to tracks such as Mist Rising, Youth, Darkness Into Light and One Day, Live At Stubb's Vol. II is a raw and inspiring musical journey that is sure to become a treasured part of Matisyahu's musical legacy.

Matisyahu's sixth studio album, Undercurrent, is musically his most courageous and lyrically his most vulnerable release to date. The music comes from trust. Trust in his band. There are no post-production bells and whistles, excessive overdub distractions, or litany of special guests.

On Undercurrent, the vulnerability felt throughout the lyrical narrative comes from acceptance in uncertainty. It's a musical reframing of the Jewish philosophical differences between the constant of faith and the immediacy of trust. Together, Matisyahu and his band have crafted a fully realized concept album about the forces within. The undercurrents of life, pulling at us all beneath the surface and unseen by those looking only at the surface.

One Night Stand: Live at the Harlem Square is the second live album by the American singer-songwriter Sam Cooke. The album was originally released in June 1985 in the United States by RCA Records. Initially recorded in 1963 to be released as a live album entitled One Night Stand, the concert at the Harlem Square club (in Miami's historically African American neighborhood of Overtown) was not released until 1985. RCA Victor, at the time, viewed the album as too gritty and raw and possibly damaging to his pop image, and quietly kept the recordings in their archive.

The album is generally considered among the best live albums by contemporary music critics, and has been ranked in best-of music lists, including on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
