    Reservoir Dogs

    20th Anniversary Edition!

Reservoir Dogs is the pulp novel I always wanted to write. Although the story is very much present day, it has a '50s feel but I used music from the '70s. In one scene, the audience learns that a local radio station is hosting a Super 70s weekend and that's why I am using and referencing the bubblegum music that was popular during that period. I found that the music was a terrific counterpoint to the action on the screen. -Quentin Tarantino

    Hardwired To Self-Destruct

Metallica released their eleventh studio album, Hardwired To Self-Destruct, on November 18th, via Blackened Recordings. The 2 Vinyl set is the Grammy® Award winning Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee' s first studio album since 2008's multi-platinum Death Magnetic.

Hardwired To Self-Destruct is produced by Greg Fidelman, who engineered and mixed Death Magnetic. Metallica formed in 1981 by drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield and has become one of the most influential and commercially successful rock bands in history, having sold 110 million albums worldwide while playing to millions of fans on literally all seven continents. They have scored several multi-platinum albums, including 1991's Metallica (commonly referred to as The Black Album), with sales of nearly 17 million copies in the United States alone, making it the best-selling album in the history of Soundscan. Metallica has also garnered numerous awards and accolades, including nine Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, and multiple MTV Video Music Awards, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in 2009.

In December 2013, Metallica made history when they performed a rare concert in Antarctica, becoming the first act to ever play all seven continents all within a year, and earning themselves a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. "Hardwired," the first track to be released from the forthcoming album was played for the first time during a live remote broadcast from Metallica's HQ in the Bay Area. During an interview with Minneapolis rock station 93X discussing the band's performance at U.S. Bank Stadium on August 20th, Lars Ulrich stunned 93X's Pablo by unleashing the incendiary song for the first time, much to the surprise (and delight) of the station, as well as fans around the world.

    Newly Remastered

Features The Gouster, Previously Unreleased As An Album

Includes 84 Page Book With Rarely Seen Photos And Various Ephemera

Parlophone Records are proud to announce DAVID BOWIE 'WHO CAN I BE NOW? (1974 - 1976)' the second in a series of box sets spanning his career from 1969.

The follow up to the awarding winning and critically acclaimed DAVID BOWIE 'FIVE YEARS (1969 - 1973)' will contain the previously unreleased album from 1974 called 'THE GOUSTER'.

The thirteen-piece vinyl set features all of the material officially released by Bowie during the so-called 'American' phase of his career from 1974 to 1976.

The box set, which is named after a track recorded in 1974 but not officially released until the 1990's, includes 'DIAMOND DOGS', 'DAVID LIVE' (in original and 2005 mixes), 'YOUNG AMERICANS' and 'STATION TO STATION' (in original and 2010 mixes) as well as 'THE GOUSTER', 'LIVE NASSAU COLISEUM 76' and a new compilation entitled 'RE:CALL 2' which is a collection of single versions and non-album b-sides.

This release includes tracks that have never before appeared on CD/vinyl/digital as well as new remasters.

Exclusive to the box set is 'THE GOUSTER'. Previously unreleased as a complete album, it was recorded at Sigma Sound, Philadelphia in 1974 and produced by Tony Visconti. The album was mixed and mastered before David decamped to New York to work with John Lennon and Harry Maslin on what became the 'YOUNG AMERICANS' album. 'THE GOUSTER' contains three previously unreleased mixes of 'Right', 'Can You Hear Me' and 'Somebody Up There Likes Me'.

For the 2016 release, Tony Visconti has overseen the mastering from the original tapes and photos taken by Eric Stephen Jacobs have been put together for the sleeve based around one of David's original concepts for the album.

Also exclusive to the CD, vinyl, standard digital and MFiT box sets will be the remastered 'DAVID LIVE (original mix)', the 2010 Harry Maslin mix of 'STATION TO STATION' (previously only available on an audio only DVD in 5.1 and stereo as part of the 'STATION TO STATION' Deluxe box set in 2010) and 'RE:CALL 2'.

'RE:CALL 2' features the original single mix of 'Rebel Rebel', which has only featured on a 40th anniversary picture disc in 2014 since its original release on single in 1974.

'RE:CALL 2' features newly originated artwork with 1975 in-studio images from the 'STATION TO STATION' recording sessions by David's friend and backing vocalist Geoff MacCormack aka Warren Peace.

The alternative cover for the 2010 mix of 'STATION TO STATION' by Harry Maslin, features the originally intended colour sleeve for the album that never got further than a few colour proofs and was replaced by the more familiar black and white image.

The vinyl box set is pressed on audiophile quality 180g vinyl.

The box sets' accompanying book, 84 pages in the vinyl set, will feature rarely seen and previously unpublished photos by photographers including Eric Stephen Jacobs, Tom Kelley, Geoff MacCormack, Terry O'Neill, Steve Schapiro, and many others as well as historical press reviews and technical notes about the albums from producers Tony Visconti and Harry Maslin.

Rocket To Russia (40th Anniversary Deluxe)

Ranked 105/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Features New 40th Anniversary 'Tracking Mix' By Original Rocket To Russia Engineer/Mixer Ed Stasium

    Limited To 15,000 Copies

Rhino will continue their Ramones archive releases with a 40th anniversary super deluxe edition of the band's third album, Rocket to Russia.

The 1977 album is reissued as a 3CD+LP set and features two mixes of the album: a remastered version of the original and a new 40th Anniversary 'Tracking Mix' by original Rocket To Russia engineer/mixer Ed Stasium. The latter provides a 'back-to-basics' version of the album, and has a different track listing from the 1977 original. Stasium explains things in the sleeve notes: "When putting together this new Tracking Mix, I decided to include the versions of 'I Don't Care' and 'It's A Long Way Back to Germany,' since they were recorded during the Rocket To Russia sessions at Mediasound, and are completely different takes that have never been heard before. Sheena has been omitted, as it was recorded in a totally different session a few months prior, in-between the Leave Home and Rocket To Russia albums." Both of these are squeezed onto the first CD.

The second CD contains 24 rare and unreleased recordings including rough mixes from sessions at Mediasound and The Power Station. There's also an early version of Needles And Pins (with Tommy on drums), the B-side single mix of Babysitter, an alternate version of It's A Long Way Back To Germany with Dee Dee on vocals and more.

The final CD includes a complete unreleased concert included on the third disc. The gig is from 19 Dember 1977 at the Apollo Centre in Glasgow, Scotland. This has been newly mixed from the multi-track tapes by Ed Stasium.

The fourth disc is a vinyl LP which actually features the tracking mix, not the original album.

As with previous sets this comes packaged in a 12 x 12 hardcover book and will be limited to 15,000 copies. The pages in the book feature stories about the band by Sire Records founder Seymour Stein, details about making the album by Stasium, and extensive liner notes by Jaan Uhelszki.

    Wild Is The Wind

Nina Simone's sixth album for Philips Records was Wild Is the Wind, released in 1966. The album was compiled from several recordings that were left over from sessions for previous Philips albums. The song Four Women was released as a single, and gained attention when banned by the New York jazz focused radio station WLIB due to concern over the lyrics. Wild Is The Wind was covered by David Bowie on his 1976 studio recording Station to Station.

    Incredible Performances and Amazing Sonics.

Simply an incredible female vocal and acoustic instrument album!

Alison Krauss' most recent triumph, the certified-platinum Raising Sand, her 2007 collaboration with Robert Plant and producer T-Bone Burnett, notched a total of six Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year, bringing her unsurpassed total to 26. That mesmerizing modern-day masterpiece sets the stage for another stunner, Paper Airplance, the artist's first album of all-new recordings in partnership with her remarkably skillful and renowned band Union Station since 2004's Lonely Runs Both Ways.

The players: Jerry Douglas (dobro, lap steel, vocals), Dan Tyminski (guitar, mandolin, lead vocal), Ron Block (banjo, guitar) and Barry Bales (bass, vocals), with Krauss on lead vocal and fiddle, are five distinct personalities who come together to form something truly unique as a band. Each bandmate has his own bustling career, but when these singular musicians come together, they're an airtight unit devoted to the process of playing music together.

Produced by Krauss and Union Station, with studio legend Mike Shipley engineering and mixing, Paper Airplane contains 11 songs of poignancy and austere beauty, chosen with the impeccable taste and intuition that have characterized her entire body of work, delivered by this world-class unit with an immediacy that goes beyond mere virtuosity.

    Loyalty

The record was called Loyalty from the beginning-it was the first decision I made about it. It's a word you
usually see written in copperplate script, a virtue: LOYALTY. But the songs don't treat it that way, just as a
thing to unpack. It's a force that you have to reckon with: loyalty to the dream, to the "work," to the mythical idea of "you" that somebody thought they saw. It can be a weakness as much as a strength; it can keep you from the reality of your own life, your own self. - Tamara Lindeman

In excess virtue lies danger, or at least limits to pragmatic action-it's a lesson hard learned by anyone
disillusioned by the erosion of youthful mythologies. Strict fealty to a fixed ideal of identity doesn't do us
any favors as adults. Loyalty, the third and finest album yet by The Weather Station (and the first for
Paradise of Bachelors) wrestles with these knotty notions of faithfulness/faithlessness-to our idealism,
our constructs of character, our memories, and to our family, friends, and lovers-representing a bold
step forward into new sonic and psychological inscapes. It's a natural progression for Toronto artist
Tamara Lindeman's acclaimed songwriting practice. Recorded at La Frette Studios just outside Paris in
the winter of 2014, in close collaboration with Afie Jurvanen (Bahamas) and Robbie Lackritz (Feist),
the record crystallizes her lapidary songcraft into eleven emotionally charged vignettes and intimate
portraits, redolent of fellow Canadians Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, and David Wiffen, but utterly her
    own.

Lindeman describes La Frette, housed in an enormous, crumbling 19th-century mansion, as
"a secret garden, a place of enchantment and grace": walls mantled in ivy and lions, corridors piled high
with discarded tape machines, old reels, and priceless guitars. As she puts it, "Recording where we did
meant we embraced beauty-we weren't afraid of it being beautiful." Like the record itself, it's a quietly
radical statement, especially since certain passages achieve a diaphanous eeriness and harmonic and
rhythmic tension new to The Weather Station. The stacked vocal harmonies of "Tapes," the drifting,
jazz-inflected chording in "Life's Work," and the glacial percussion in "Personal Eclipse" contribute to a
pervading sense of clock-stopping bloom and smolder, recalling the spooky avant-soul of Terry Callier's
    Occasional Rain.

Beyond the decaying decadence and vintage gear, the brokedown palace atmosphere of
La Frette afforded a more significant interior luxury as well, one stated with brutal honesty in the
stunning "Shy Women": "it seemed to me that luxury would be to be not so ashamed, not to look away."

Accordingly, Loyalty brings a freshly unflinching self-examining gaze and emotional and musical control
to The Weather Station's songs. She is an extraordinary singer and instrumentalist-on Loyalty she plays
guitar, banjo, keys, and vibes-but Lindeman has always been a songwriter's songwriter, recognized for
her intricate, carefully worded verse, filled with double meanings, ambiguities, and complex metaphors.
Though more moving than ever, her writing here is almost clinical in its discipline, its deliberate wording
and exacting delivery, evoking similarly idiosyncratic songsters from Linda Perhacs to Bill Callahan.

Outside her musical practice, Lindeman also happens to be an accomplished film and
television actor, and it's her directorial eye for quietly compelling characters and the rich details of the
everyday, Bressonian in its specificity and scope, that drives the limpid singularity of The Weather
Station's songs. As in Bresson's films, there is no trace of theater here, no brittle singer-songwriter
histrionics, but rather a powerful performative focus and narrative restraint, a commitment to what the
auteur called the "simultaneous precision and imprecision of music." Despite the descriptive delicacy, the
album never lapses into preciousness or sentimentality, instead retaining its barbs and bristles and
remaining resolutely clear-eyed and thick-skinned. Lyrically, Loyalty inverts and involutes the language
of confession, of regret, of our most private and muddled mental feelings, by externalizing those
anxieties through exquisite observation of the things and people we accumulate, the modest meanings
accreted during even our most ostensibly mundane domestic moments. ("Your trouble is like a lens," she
discerns in "I Mined," "through which the whole world bends.")

"Tapes" and "I Could Only Stand By" expose and exalt the quotidian-"the little tapes"
hidden beneath a lover's bed, "the sunken old moorings" at the "bruise-colored lake"-without romanticizing
these scenes of, respectively, grief and guilt. "Like Sisters" analyzes the darker contours of a
friendship with devastating scrutiny. The breathless momentum of "Way It Is, Way It Could Be"-"both
are," she sings of the way we sometimes live, for better or for worse, amid multiple truths-hinges on a
mysterious moment when two brown dogs die underwheel, then don't, and that gut-sickness is
overturned, a sin redeemed with a second glance. "Floodplain" and "Personal Eclipse" are also road songs
about traveling through, and owning, the empty places in-between, literally and figuratively-what
Lindeman deems "the various ways people try to disappear from themselves, in physical distance, in
    politeness."

To invoke Melville (author of PoB's namesake story), "extreme loyalty to the piety of love"
can be a destabilizing force, a kind of bondage from which we must emancipate ourselves. The line is
from his strange masterpiece Pierre, or the Ambiguities; The Weather Station's Loyalty could quite easily
support the same subtitle for the fascinating ways it navigates the deep canyons between certainty and
    uncertainty, faith and doubt.

    Deep Night

A raw cry from the dark night of one man's soul. Cloistered away from the popular culture of 1982,
rural Illinois priest Tony Trosley painted a pastoral refraction of early 1970s Laurel Canyon watercolors with this stand-alone set of songs. Openhearted and naively psychedelic, Deep Night was recorded during a single pre-dawn marathon, and mixed live-to-tape in an isolated chapel.

Cobbled together out of local players to help fill out this ethereal soundscape, Trosley's band brought an earnest but bluntly unsophisticated backdrop to his phaser-drenched 12-string guitar. The Sixth Station-named for a grim New Testament tableau in which Veronica washes the tortured face of Jesus-managed to avoid overtly Christian themes in favor of a mystical Humanism that resonates timelessly, and to any sort of listener. This Deep Night is as profound and eerie as the images conjured by its title.

The fourth album of Graham Central Station, Mirror, was released in 1976 and once again underlined the relevance of these seminal Funkateers. With the addition of Gospel chants, this album took a more religious approach to the music genre.

The song Love made it to single status, peaking at #14 on the Billboard R&B charts. Opening the album with marching drums and high school football cheers, Entrow lays down a solid groove and has each band member take turns on funky solos. The song's chorus says: 'Let me entertain you' - well, this album definitely delivers on that promise.

John Ralston (Vagrant Records) releases two alternate universe classics just in time for the Christmas Holidays. Jesus Christ may be the most daring A-side we have ever heard with it's drones, screeches & clanging recalling the glory days of the Velvet Underground. A Marigny Xmas is an alarmingly gorgeous soft & tender swaying strum-drilled nugget: A true New Orleans heart breaker. Both feature the downright spectacular rhythm section of bassist Dan Bonebrake and drummer Deric (no relation to Charles) Dickens. 7 Limited to 300 Christmas colored copies: 150 transparent red & 150 opaque white.

Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band are firmly established as one of the most imaginative acts to have emerged from late-'60s America. The historically vital recordings preserved on this set -- a live set captured from Avalon Ballroom in 1966 and a radio station set from 1967 -- capture Beefheart and his musicians as they emerge from their blues-based beginnings and begin to evolve into something far stranger.

    Silent Running Soundtrack

    Pressed On Green Colored Vinyl

The 1972 classic Silent Running is lauded as one of the most influential science fiction films of all time. The soundtrack features a memorable score by Peter Schickele and songs by Joan Baez. After the end of all botanical life on Earth, an ecologist and his robots maintain a greenhouse on a space station in order to preserve key plants from extinction. They are later ordered to destroy the greenhouse, a decision that forces them to do anything necessary to keep their invaluable greenery alive.

    So Long So Wrong

Available for the very first time on vinyl. This is the best AKUS album to date. (AKUS is the band's own acronym for Alison Krauss & Union Station). The best songs, the best playing, the best singing and the best sound! This must have 2-LP set gets more addictive with every play. Call it bluegrass or call it acoustic pop, either way Alison Krauss and Union Station have created an incredible montage of music. As usual, it is Alison's beautiful vocals that gives it that high, lonesome sound.

There are thirteen vocal songs and one instrumental on this two-record set. Krauss is the lead vocalist on eight of the songs and Union Station members share the other lead vocals. The virtuoso musicians comprising the group are Barry Bales (acoustic bass), Ron Block (banjo, guitar), Adam Steffey (mandolin), and Dan Tyminski (guitar). Of course Krauss started her career as a violinist (fiddler to the bluegrass world) and she doesn't leave that instrument out either. Due to the unmatched resolution of the Gain 2 Ultra Analog Cutting System, all the acoustic instruments and voices on the record are reproduced with an exceptional sense of space and clarity.

The tunes are mostly new material and alternate from bluegrass to acoustic pop. The standouts on the album are Alison's numbers: It Doesn't Matter, Looking in the Eyes of Love, and the gospel There is a Reason. These are all quiet, reflective pieces with the haunting, almost angelic quality of Krauss' voice demonstrated to its fullest. The harmony singing on every cut shows off the vocal prowess of the entire ensemble. The title track in particular stands out for its use of harmony and incredible accurate presentation of acoustic instruments. The male vocalists are superb in their own right and each of the band members has the spotlight somewhere on the album. MFSL

Shine A Light: Field Recordings From The Great American Railroad

In March 2016, singers Billy Bragg and Joe Henry, guitars in hand, boarded a Los Angeles bound train at Chicago's Union Station with the hope of reconnecting with the culture of American railroad travel and the songs it inspired. Winding along 2,728 miles of track, the pair recorded songs while the train paused to pick up passengers. In waiting rooms and at the track side in St. Louis, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Alpine, El Paso and Tucson, they set up their recording equipment, performing classic railroad songs while keeping one eye on the train, bounding back aboard just before pulling out for the next town. After four days crossing the country, they pulled into Los Angeles at 4:30am, recording their final song in Union Station at dawn, just as the first birds began to sing.

The resulting album Shine A Light: Field Recordings From The Great American Railroad takes listeners along on that journey and will be released September 23 on Cooking Vinyl Records. The album features the perfectly matched voices of Bragg & Henry and captures the varied atmospheres and environments in which they recorded-from the close proximity of soft furnished sleeping cars to cathedral-like ambience of waiting halls built to hold thousands of passengers. Containing thirteen songs originally recorded by legendary singers such as Lead Belly, Hank Williams, Jimmie Rodgers and more, the album reveals an often forgotten but integral part of America's musical heritage.

In the two decades since Ozzy Osbourne hired him away from his job at a New Jersey gas station to become his new guitarist, Zakk Wylde has established himself as a guitar icon known and revered the world over. Writing and recording with Osbourne led to multi-platinum success, inspiring him to create the now legendary Black Label Society in 1998. In the decade plus since, BLS has turned the notion of what a rock band should be upside down by inspiring legions of fans (known as Berserkers) all over the world to follow the mantra: Strength, Determination, Merciless, Forever (SDMF for short). Wylde and his Berserkers have established a heavy metal institution true to the vision of uncompromising, unfiltered and unrestrained rock 'n' roll.

Two Gallants, the San Francisco folk-punk duo prone to accidents and police raids, spent roughly four years on hiatus before making this album. You might suspect their primary motivation was staying in one piece and out of the slammer. But the time apart also had an unintended, quite positive consequence: It gave childhood friends Adam Stephens and Tyson Vogel time to recharge their batteries and come back with their most cohesive set of music yet. Now signed to Dave Matthews' ATO Records, the group that got its start playing impromptu shows outside the 16th Street BART Station still retains its scrappy charm, whether pounding through fuzzy, primal ditties such as Song of Songs or making like Dylan on the gorgeous ballad Broken Eyes. Here's hoping they survive the promotion cycle.

Law" and the 1989 follow up "Back With A Bong" helped creating the sound of
New York Hardcore back then, as well as what it stands for today. In 2008 their
legacy even lead to the use of the song "A Day In A Life" (from the band's debut) in
the Liberty City Hardcore radio station on the Rockstar video game "Grand Theft
Auto IV". Murphy's Law never abandoned the Hardcore scene or their fans. During
the extensive career Jimmy Gestapo stayed true his scene earning him & the band
the name of one of NYHC's all time favorites.
