The Long-Awaited AlbumRather than a departure, Martin's musical career is an extension of the storytelling impulse that drove his work as a comedian, an actor, a screenwriter, a playwright, an essayist, and a novelist.
'The Long-Awaited Album,' Steve Martin's brand new project with the North Carolina Grammy-winning group the Steep Canyon Rangers, is full of stories that mix humor and melancholy, whimsy and realism, rich characters and evocative details. And lots of banjos. That instrument-so dexterously, even acrobatically picked and strummed-proves just as crucial to relating these tales as the lyrics themselves, each chord and riff revealing depths to Martin's narrators and to his musical talent.1. Nobody Knows YouGrammy-nominated bluegrass sensation, The Steep Canyon Rangers proudly present their debut Rounder Records effort Nobody Knows You. Grammy nominated for their collaboration with icon Steve Martin, these personable young musicians are as Steve puts it, "not only great musicians who continue to explore both the new and old styles of bluegrass and bring a fresh energy to the traditions of American music, but they are also really fun on a bus."
Deft musicianship, impeccable songwriting, distinctive vocals, and creative arrangements are just some of the qualities that set The Steep Canyon Rangers apart from the rest of the pack. Unafraid to break the mold, whether taking the unexpected musical turn or bringing home the surprising lyric, it's no wonder that Martin chose them as just the right band to record and tour with. Nobody Knows You is the most adventurous and fully realized accomplishment The Steep Canyon Rangers have achieved to date.
Guitarist Woody Platt's take on Nobody Knows You to No Depression, I think this record is an obvious step for us if you were to go back and listen to all of our records in order. To me, Nobody Knows You has the most depth from start to finish, and I believe that it features our best songwriting to date.
He adds, Although it is a bluegrass album, and we are very proud to be a bluegrass band, there are elements of pop, honky-tonk, jazz and rock and roll all kind of mixed into the album. The variety of the record will hopefully enable us to reach a larger audience of music fans, and not limit it to only bluegrass fans. Compared to our previous discography, I'd say that this record has the best chance to have a broad appeal.1. Nobody Knows You

RADIO (Pre-Order)The Rangers - made up of guitarist Woody Platt, banjo player Graham Sharp, bassist Charles R. Humphrey III, mandolin player Mike Guggino, fiddle player Nicky Sanders and Mike Ashworth on the box kit - are working with Jerry Douglas as their producer on the project. Despite being well known as a bluegrass group, the band has also made an effort to being other genres into the mix on the new record.
Radio travels the dial from top to bottom, Sharp says. The album tunes into the rock channel for a little while, then the blues, then country, pop and, of course, bluegrass.1. Radio

Tell The Ones I LoveComing off their 2012 Grammy-winning album, "Nobody Knows You, and this album proves to hold equal charisma and sharpness that brought their first
album so much success. They are currently touring with the widely popular Steve Martin and Edie Brickell. This has increased the bands fan base greatly. They have been playing to sold out venues with enthusiastic audiences. They have literally been bringing the house down and winning audiences over with their incredible musicianship and hard driving renditions of some of their own compositions in a set of their own. Yes, the Steep Canyon Rangers
have received widespread exposure & critical acclaim as Steve Martin's backing band, but anyone who knows the Steeps and has heard them play, know that it is Steve Martin who is THEIR celebrity! Even Steve would tell you that.
Along with winning the Grammy for their last album Nobody Know You(without Steve) they have also won multiple IBMA awards, including Entertainers of the Year. They will be the hosts of this year's IBMAs as they move to their new home on North Carolina. The Steep Canyon Rangers have very close ties with Steve Martin, and he hugely supportive of them plugging the band whenever possible. They have appeared with him on countless national television programs such as Late Night with David Letterman, The Tonight
show with Jay Leno, The View, The Today Show, plus many more.
Steep Canyon Rangers wanted Tell The Ones I Love to reflect the spirit of their concerts-an original, freewheeling, high-energy approach to bluegrass
that rests mainly on the songwriting of Graham Sharp and Charles Humphrey. They recorded the album almost entirely live, using few overdubs. While the Steep Canyon Rangers were certainly open to recording songs by other composers, or to dip into traditional material, Campbell ultimately had them record all original tunes, based both on the strength of the songs and the band's arrangements. QuiltListening to their self-titled debut, it's no surprise that the members of Quilt came together out of a shared love of visual art. While their music is steeped in timeless qualities like the gorgeous harmonies on Milo or the twinkling guitar on Utopian Canyon, the entire record is full of expansive, cinematic moments. Each song can be enjoyed independently, but taken as a whole, the record becomes a world of its own: guitars drift languidly, keys sparkle in and out, often following their own threads into the stratosphere, with vocals that are at once powerful and intimate.1. Gentle SpiritJonathan Wilsons music is steeped equally in the woodsy contours of his Blue Ridge origins and the atmospheric guitar reveries of Neil Young and Quicksilver Messenger Service. Gentle Spirit, an expansive double set conceived specifically for vinyl, was recorded to analog tape and is remarkably evocative of that golden late 60s, early 70s period when rural and urban sensibilities colluded to produce some of rocks most imperishable recordings.
Gentle Spirit was recorded at his former studio in Laurel Canyon, the location of the very scene Wilson is credited with revitalizing through his personal studio and well-known jam sessions. In addition to making his own music, Wilson is also a producer, engineer and custom guitar-maker.
Whether hes producing young artists like the band Dawes or collaborating with renowned artists like Erykah Badu, Jackson Browne, Robbie Robertson or Elvis Costello, Wilson is as dedicated, visionary and soulful as anyone in music today, qualities that can be heard in the many textures, layers and easy born nuances prevalent throughout Gentle Spirit.1.
