Mastering By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio
Mastered From The Original Analog Tapes
200-Gram Plating And Pressing By Quality Record Pressings
Get your motor runnin' baby - Steppenwolf's Gold: Their Great Hits took its title literally. The towering rock album success rang in at No. 24 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart and became certified gold for record sales in excess of 500,000 units by the Record Industry Association of America (RIAA) in April 1971.
AllMusic praised the production and engineering of most of the tracks and called it a nearly perfect introduction to the band. Acoustic Sounds and Analogue Productions want to introduce you to the most sonically perfect version of this historic album you've ever heard on vinyl. Our 200-gram 33 1/3 RPM reissue was remastered from the original analog tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Sound and plated and pressed by Gary Salstrom and his crew at Quality Record Pressings, makers of the world's finest-sounding LPs.
The Canadian-American rock band, named for Hermann Hesse's mystical novel, rocketed to worldwide fame after their third single Born to Be Wild dropped in 1968. The song and Steppenwolf's version of Hoyt Axton's The Pusher figured prominently in the 1969 counterculture cult film Easy Rider, and both show up on Gold's track list. Two other singles on this stunning album compilation also cracked the Top 10 on the charts: Magic Carpet Ride and Rock Me.
Magic Carpet Ride was released in 1968 on the album The Second. It was written by band members John Kay and Rushton Moreve, peaked at No. 3 in the U.S. and stayed on the charts for 16 weeks, longer than any other Steppenwolf song.
You also get the Don Covay soul cover Sookie, Sookie, which got airplay on some soul stations nationwide, as well as rock 'n' roll radio. Gold also includes Hey Lawdy Mama the hit studio single from Steppenwolf Live.
Steppenwolf enjoyed worldwide success from 1968 to 1972, when clashing personalities ultimately broke up the core group after a farewell concert in Los Angeles on Valentine's Day, 1972. Today, John Kay remains as the only original Steppenwolf member.

The Darkening PlainTransmaniacon take the blueprint and soundworld laid down by Bloodrock, Mountain, Steppen-wolf, Blue Oyster Cult and Alice Cooper, and add a hefty slab of dark doom, hard riffs, punk atti-tude and stoner metal to ramp it up for the 21st century. The vibe is steeped in 70's rock, but the sound is definitely 'NOW' From the Sabbathian sludge of 'City Of Chaos' to the Dead Kennedy-esque 'An Eye For An Eye' and the stoner moves of 'Chasing The Insane' the album is shot through with twists and chock full of riffs. This is hard rock at its hardest and heaviest set against an expansive post apocalyptic backdrop. Nothing encapsulates the cinematic darkness more than the album opener, which grafts a progressive approach to hard rock and doom. 'Quintessence of Dust' is a 24 minute monolithic mindfuck of epic proportions, the now completed score to the still-born science fiction horror story possibly. An intense listen that features the spoken word talents of punk poet Lydia Lunch. 'Quintessence Of Dust' is a grim eco warning, a tale of alien invasion and payback time for a future Earth's corpulent consumer-ism, rampant waste and self centred greed. A hideous flesh and metal robot army, hybrid humans inadvertently created by man himself, invade, take over and consume the Earth Sleeve is by one of the real legends of horror, sci-fi and fantasy illustration, Ian Miller.1. Features The 1970 Concert Classic 19 Minute Version Of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida
Iron Butterfly is truly an amazing success story in the record business. For over forty years, this band remained a significant force in the classic rock world with their original mix of rock, metal and classic leanings, solidifying them as one of the true purveyors of the progressive rock movement. Founded by the multi-talented keyboardist/vocalist Doug Ingle in San Diego in 1966, the band hit the charts immediately and soon became one of the key favorite biker bands and west coast hard rockers alongside entities like Steppenwolf, Grateful Dead and The Doors.
Their live performances were challenging, loud, exciting and definitely original, which brought them huge popularity in a very short period of time. 1968 changed everything as In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida became a massive smash garnering Iron Butterfly major success globally. This tune displayed the first example of a driving hard rock jam and lyric, with classical, organic and tribal rhythms, making it one of the most important songs of our time. Featuring Doug Ingle's keyboard and vocal expertise, Lee Dorman's power bass, guitar shredder Erik Brann, and Ron Bushy's primitive drum beat, this amazing stage shows will forever be associated with the acid rock era, which paved the way for heavy metal bands into the seventies and beyond.
ATCO Records knew the power of their live performances, therefore the quartet was awarded with another smash Lp, the concert recording masterwork chart topper Iron Butterfly Live. The 1970 smash contained 6 smokin' selections from their first three hit albums. Hard rock is abounding like the 19 minute workout on In-A Gadda-Da-Vida and other killer jams like Soul Experience, Are You Happy and Filled With Fear.
This masterpiece has been out of print on vinyl for many decades that is until now! Friday Music is very proud to offer another installment in our Iron Butterfly 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series with their classic 1970 smash album Iron Butterfly Live .

Why Pick On MeThe Standells' key albums for the Tower label (Dirty Water, Why Pick On Me, and Try It) perfectly bottled a rebellious wave of sound sweeping across Mid-1960's teen clubs, radio playlists and record racks. Starting with the genre-defining, proto-punk smash "Dirty Water", through a series of equally memorable underdog anthems ("Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White," "Why Pick on Me") and obscenities (the banned "Try It"), the Standells left an indelible mark on their era. Those three Tower albums are a veritable feast of three chord, fuzz-drenched, Vox Organ-driven "squares"-repellant.
For their second Tower album, Why Pick On Me, the Standells received a significant sonic boost with the move to American Recording Company. Legendary engineer Richie Podolor cut the best sounding records of the era; from the Standells, Chocolate Watchband, and Electric Prunes to Steppenwolf and Three Dog Night. The drum tracks on this album are simply not to be believed, the bass drum sound possibly registering on the Richter scale. Here the Standells build on their strengths with tough originals from producer Ed Cobb, equally-hard driving outside material ("Black Hearted Woman," "Mainline"), and notably, the emergence of Larry Tamblyn as a songwriter (his "Mr. Nobody" arguably the album's highlight).1. Homebrew is the second studio album by Neneh Cherry. The album features several different genres, including between Jazz, Funk and Trip Hop. Hip Hop legends Gang Starr co-wrote and produced Soul Sassy and I Ain't Gone Under Yet. Geoff Barrow wrote and produced Somedays.
Trout features a guitar riff sampled from Steppenwolf's version of The Pusher, and the drum track by John Bonham from When The Levee Breaks.Buddy X was allegedly inspired by Lenny Kravitz. It was remixed by Notorious B.I.G and the Dream Team. The track Move With Me later appeared on the soundtrack of the 1993 film Sliver.
Everything on this record is a gem. Cherry triumphs with a seamless and unorthodox blend of Hip Hop, R&B, Dance music, and Pop, and on Money Love and Trout, the presence of R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe brings Rock to the eclectic mix.1. Sassy (Featuring Guru From Gangstarr)

Nico is the third studio album by American rock band Blind Melon, originally released in 1996 by Capitol Records. The album was released after lead singer Shannon Hoon's cocaine overdose that resulted in his death in 1995.
