Stephen StillsWith his 1970 self-titled solo debut, Stephen Stills, like his CSN&Y bandmates, decided to explore other musical avenues. Stills offers up his trademark Southern California folk-pop sound here while incorporating the Latin, swamp and blues influences that were just beginning to emerge in his songwriting. The London session allowed Stills to finally team up with Eric Clapton on the track Go Back Home and Jimi Hendrix, who died prior to the album's release, is notably featured on the track Old Times, Good Times. Other collaborators include John Sebastian, Rita Coolidge, David Crosby, Graham Nash and Cass Elliot. Features two of Stills' biggest hits with Love the One You're With and Sit Yourself Down.1. Crosby, Stills and NashRanked 259/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
One of the most enduring musical partnerships of our time, Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN) are revered for their peerless vocal harmonies, inspired songwriting and musical virtuosity. When the trio first sang together at a friends Laurel Canyon house in 1968, their uncanny harmonic convergence was immediately apparent, and CSN took shape. Each member came to the new venture from other high-profile bands, Crosby from the Byrds, Stills from Buffalo Springfield and Nash from the Hollies, and together they formed that rarest of musical entities, a supergroup that lived up to its billing.
CSNs stunning 1969 self-titled debut album is one of the true masterpieces of the rock n roll canon. The album made it all the way to #6 on the Billboard charts and delivered two Top 40 Pop singles with Marrakesh Express and Suite: Judy Blue Eyes. Also features the CSN classics Guinnevere, Wooden Ships, Helplessly Hoping and Long Time Gone.
Crosby, Stills & Nash are a most important part of the brilliant history at Atlantic Records. The uniqueness of their vocal blend, as well as the uniqueness of each solo voice, made them the top vocal group in the world, and they are still today thrilling millions of fans they have accumulated over the years. StillRichard Thompson has announced his newest solo album Still, which will be released via Fantasy. The record will be produced by Jeff Tweedy of Wilco.
Tweedy stated in a press release, "Richard's been one of my favorite guitar players for a very long time. When I think about it, he's also one of my favorite songwriters and favorite singers. He's the Ultimate Triple Threat. Getting to work closely with him on this record was a truly rewarding experience, not to mention a great thrill. And he keeps alive my streak of working exclusively with artists who make me look good as a producer."

StillsTwo years following the release of noise-pop duo Gauntlet Hair's self-titled debut LP, the band have announced a follow-up. Titled Stills, it drops July 16 through Dead Oceans.
A press release notes that the band uprooted themselves from Denver and moved back to their hometown of Chicago since the release of Gauntlet Hair. The move apparently spiralled drummer Craig Nice and singer/guitarist Andy R. into a wave of nostalgia, which ultimately influenced their latest song cycle.
I started listening again to the stuff I would have in my discman in the back of my mom's car, Nice said in a statement. White Zombie, Marilyn Manson - the production on those records is so amazing. Nothing sounds like that anymore.
Recorded by Unknown Mortal Orchestra member Jacob Portrait at his Cave studio in Portland, the LP also apparently takes influence from INXS, Depeche Mode and Whitney Houston's I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me), and diffuses all that into a garden of dark delights.1. Human Nature

StillJoy Division rapidly evolved from their initial punk rock influences to develop a sound and style that made them one of the pioneers of the post-punk movement of the late 1970s. Their self-released 1978 debut EP, An Ideal for Living, drew the attention of the Manchester television personality Tony Wilson. Joy Division's debut album,Unknown Pleasures, was released in 1979 on Wilson's independent record label Factory Records, and drew critical acclaim from the British press. Stills Lit ThroughStills Lit Through offers the first comprehensive body of work from
musician and visual artist Tallesen.
Hailing from the Hudson Valley of New York, Tallesen - born
Cayman Johnson - describes Stills as a response to the
"continuous flexibility of the physical setting by the additive of
sound." A reference to his joyful erasure of the distinction
between music and experience.
The twelve songs of Stills Lit Through conjure an eidolon of
melodies painted with watercolor brushstrokes both calm
("Glenticast") and frenetic ("Emmel"). To our ears, this closely
characterizes Johnson's work as a visual artist.
The collection when taken as a whole is wonderfully consistent.
We hear echoes of Autechre's corporeal maneuvers (bass as lead
voice, plasticity of foreground vs. background), but, if you dig out
the provenance of Johnson's nom de plume, you really start to
understand how the melodic through-lines of the record operate
on a more illustrative level.
What appears to you as a macro-level core 'feeling' about the
record is illusively varied, consisting of insanely lush song nodes
that subtly and endlessly rotate and shift. It is a music that is both
ultra beautiful (Strike Silver, Love Green) and invested in a core
belief dealing with the materiality of musical sound itself
(Plasticized Fsa). It's not the house in which melodies are stored,
it's the crypt of inspiration from which melodies emerge.
Rhythmically, Stills encourages ephemera towards the creation of
a seductively creaky, silvery universe with an unreliable sense of
gravity. The result is hallucinatory in that the album
comprehensively experiences like volumes among volumes of
things change, but in half-speed. "The music is saturated with
information for it to remain flexible to its surroundings," describes
Cayman, an ode to feeling "ambiance with a modern degree of

Crosby Stills and Nash: Demos12-Song Collection of Previously Unreleased Demos from 1968 to 1971 Offers a Behind-The-Scenes Glimpse at the Earliest Days of One of Rocks Most Legendary Partnerships!
After four decades as three together, the creative partnership of David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash is one of the most enduring and influential in contemporary music. This compilation of previously unreleased material takes an unprecedented look at the earliest days of their collaboration with 12 demos from 1968 to 1971 of destined-to-be-classic songs that would later be featured on CSNs studio albums and solo titles. While a number of demos feature members performing solo (and one finds them joined by Neil Young), the set opens with the trio harmonizing on Marrakesh Express, recorded four months before their self-titled debut LP was released in 1969. Other rarities include seminal takes on Almost Cut My Hair, Chicago, Long Time Gone, Love The One Youre With and DÉjà Vu.
The collection, produced by Graham Nash and Joel Bernstein, reaches as far back as 68 with Stills My Love Is A Gentle Thing, and also features his solo classic Love The One Youre With. Highlights include CSN harmonizing on a January 69 take on Marrakesh Express, Crosby and Stills on Long Time Gone, and Crosby and Nash joined by Neil Young on Music Is Love (a song later featured on Crosbys solo debut If I Could Only Remember My Name). Among the other highlights are three songs that would appear on Nashs solo debut, 1971s Songs For Beginners, including Chicago and Sleep Song, and Crosby performing unaccompanied on Almost Cut My Hair and DÉjà Vu.
On some of these songs you really hear us becoming a band, trying out different ideas in our songwriting and singing and harmonies. It really is a time capsule. Graham Nash1. Marrakesh Express Crosby, Stills & Nash

Still LifeDawn Golden is the work of Los Angeles-based producer Dexter Tortoriello. He gained exposure in 2010 when his other (much more serene) project, Houses began getting wide spread attention. Dawn Golden is it's opposite. Influenced by everything from doom metal bands like Neurosis to avant noise artists such as Xiu Xiu, the songs pound with a calm, but dire urgency. The project began in Tortoriello's bedroom as an experiment in different recording techniques, and quickly escalated as vocals were added and ideas rounded out. Dawn Golden released his first EP, Blow, in April 2011. The effort, which featured standouts like "Blacks" and "White Sun," received critical acclaim from NPR and Pitchfork. Post-Blow, Tortoriello started recording albums for both Dawn Golden and Houses, releasing Houses' A Quiet Darkness in May 2013. During this period, he continued working on the songs for what would become Dawn Golden's debut LP, Still Life. The album was recorded over the last three years at the Mad Decent studios in Los Angeles.
Still Life is built around stream-of-conscious craft that explores the doleful voids of addiction, love, and death. Led by its first single "All I Want," Still Life gains its stark emotional perspective through some of the most unique production you're likely to hear this year. There's heavy exploration of sonic texture, and Tortoriello uses frozen cut-ups and creative vocal editing to flip a traditionally-futuristic sound into something that oozes feeling.1. Discoloration

Still ClimbingLeslie West is set to releases his album Still Climbing in 2013 via Provogue Records / Mascot Label Group.
Originality, excitement, honesty and survival are all part of what makes a legend, and those qualities ripple through every song on the album. It's a testimonial to the strength and durability of West's artistry. Born October 22, 1945, as he approaches his 68th birthday, West has packed some of the most soulful and searing vocal performances of his half-century career into these 11 tracks. His guitar has never sounded more massive or riff-orientated.
What's different on Still Climbing is that I wanted my guitars to sound as big as I look. So I used four of my Dean Signature model guitars with my Mountain of Tone humbucking pickups. I plugged them into my Blackstar amps - no pedals - and turned them up loud and raw, and what you hear is exactly what I did in the studio. These Blackstar amps deliver everything I need without 'confidence' pedals. I played one of the early tracks we recorded for Slash, and he said, 'That is as heavy as it gets.'
Still Climbing is co-produced by West and Mike Metal Goldberg, who engineered all of the sessions. Songs like Dyin' Since The Day I Was Born, Hatfield or McCoy, and Busted, Disgusted or Dead establish a new litmus test for heavy.
The latter features West and Johnny Winter on duelling slide guitars. West also gave up smoking cigarettes and pot after a bout with bladder cancer, so it's no wonder many of Still Climbing's numbers explore the theme of survival and, ultimately, triumph. To that end, West avows, Not only am I lucky to be here, but because I stopped smoking my voice is now stronger than it's ever been - as strong as my guitar playing.
His inclusion of Feeling Good, a song by British actor-musician Anthony Newley that was made famous by Steve Winwood's group Traffic, is a testimonial to all of that. Its lyrics celebrate a new dawn for me as West and his long-time buddy Dee Snider (Twisted Sister) trade vocal lines.
West has always been an outstanding vocalist, earning comparisons to soul legends like Otis Redding since his 1969 debut Mountain, which gave his historic band its name. On Still Climbing West revisits the catalogue of another classic soul man, Percy Sledge, with the enduring When a Man Loves a Woman. He's joined by now 32 year-old soul man Jonny Lang, who he met 15 years ago when Lang was a rising guitar prodigy. West says they cut the tune side-by-side in the studio, their soaring guitars and voices twining to bring fresh blood and a blues-soaked arrangement to the song.
When a Man Loves a Woman, Never Let Me Go and Fade Into You explore a romantic theme. In 2009 West married his wife Jenni, who co-wrote many of Still Climbing's songs with the guitar giant.
Balls, guts, heart - more words that are part of West's legend and describe the roaring crescendos and deep emotional roots of Still Climbing - and West himself. You know, when it comes to talent, we don't all move at the same rate of speed, West muses. Some people start at the top of their game and after 10 or 20 years you wonder what the hell happened to them. I like to joke that the older I get the better I used to be, but after giving up drugs and smoking, my voice can hit notes that I never could reach before. I'm thankful for that.1. Still RunStill Run is the new album from Brooklyn, NY based alternative band Wet, and is the follow up to the band's critically acclaimed debut album Don't You from 2016. Still Run shows Wet with a more upbeat and pop-driven sound than their debut. The band's new sound and outlook is informed by lead singer and songwriter Kelly Zutrau taking more creative control of the project. Much of Wet's shift stems from Zutrau's more forceful vocals, which allow her direct yet poetic lyrics to resonate more deeply - leaping out of the sunnier production.
Producers like Rostam (Haim, Solange), Andrew Sarlo (Big Thief), and John Hill (Santigold, M.I.A.) assisted primary producer and Wet band member Joe Valle, who brings a new comfort level to his production style, presenting dark lyrics in a brighter way that highlights their innate intensity and lets Zutrau's songwriting shine. There are a million ways to make a good song sound good, she says. But what matters to me most in the end are the vocal, and the songwriting, and whatever serves those best.
Wet is recognized for their deeply-hued emotional pop, well documented by the New York Times, Spin, and NPR among many others. Rolling Stone noted that Wet set themselves apart with music that combines the elegant ache of Nineties R&B with the raw honesty of indie pop.... Still Run is a testament to taking that control and pursuing one's artistic vision and it also shows how any hiccups that might crop up along the way can make the vision's eventual realization more satisfying.1. It's rich, subtly layered music, but its best attribute is that it comes on easy, never sounding labored or overworked.
In fact, it takes several spins of the album to realize just how versatile Withers is on 'Still Bill', to hear how he makes intricate, funky rhythms sound as effortless and simple as the album's best-known song, the gospel-tinged inspirational anthem Lean on Me.
That's the genius behind Withers' music: it's warm and easily accessible, but it has a depth and complexity that reveals itself over numerous plays.
Then there's the quality of the songwriting, which is as assured on the grooving Lonely Town, Lonely Street as it is on the suspicious, paranoid Who Is He (And What Is He to You)? or Use Me, where he happily submits to being used by his object of affection.
This high level of songwriting is sustained throughout the record, making this probably his best record ever.1. Lonely Town, Lonely Street

Still Feel Gone1991's Still Feel Gone is the sophomore release from the seminal alt-country group Uncle Tupelo which famously spawned both Jeff Tweedy's Wilco and Jay Farrar's Son Volt upon its demise. The least country sounding album of the band's four record output, Still Feel Gone's 13-tracks unceremoniously pay homage to their garage and punk-rock roots, offering what is arguably the best document of the full range of the band in the process.

Hold Still LifeHold Still Life, which was co-produced by band members Andrew Futral and Rachel Browne, marks Field Mouse's first full-length that's been written and released as a full band. The album was recorded at Seaside Lounge, Brooklyn & Let 'em In, Brooklyn and mixed by Kyle Gilbride (Swearin', Waxahatchee, Upset).
Upon returning from a tour with Laura Stevenson and the Cans in 2013, the band wasted no time arranging the album. Inspired by burgeoning adulthood, social overload and isolation, life in New York, and the realization that life is going by with a terrifying swiftness (plus a handful of breakup songs to boot), Field Mouse wrote and recorded the new album in late 2013.
If you're a fan of artists like The Breeders, Sonic Youth, Velocity Girl, My Bloody Valentine, Beach House or Juliana Hatfield, you're gonna enjoy Field Mouse. Plus, they have a really great cover of the Twin Peaks song so there's that.1. A Place You Return to in a Dream

Let's Be StillIt wasn't that long ago that the members of Seattle's The Head and the Heart were busking on street corners, strumming their acoustic guitars, stomping their feet and singing in harmony as they attempted to attract the attention of passersby. After capturing that unbridled energy on the band's 2011 debut album for hometown label Sub Pop, the band went from playing open mic nights to selling out headlining shows in prestigious venues. The album became one of Sub Pop's best-selling debut releases in years. And, slowly but surely, ideas began to form for the band's second album, imbued with the experiences of traveling the world and playing to ever-growing crowds.
The Head and the Heart's new album, Let's Be Still, is a snapshot of a band that didn't exist four years ago. Virginia native Jonathan Russell and California transplant Josiah Johnson formed the core songwriting partnership, which was rounded out by drummer Tyler Williams, keyboardist Kenny Hensley, vocalist/violinist Charity Rose Thielen and bassist Chris Zasche, who'd met Russell and Johnson while tending bar at an open mic they frequented. The nascent group dove headrst into writing, recording and performing, and even moved into the same house.
After the breakaway success of their debut and countless shows on the road, the band is in a distinctly different situation. "There is a condence gained from having such an amazing fan base," says group member Jonathan Russell. "You start to trust yourself more. When we were busking, we were lling so much space to keep the listener from walking away." Says Johnson, "We wanted to write songs that felt bigger, and didn't need to be so frantic. I think for the most part we wanted to record an album that sounds like the way we play now."
Adds Russell, "Has there been an impact on our lives since we have become full-time musicians? Sure. On one hand, it's everything you have ever wanted. On the other hand, you start to miss the things you've lost and had to give up. And that's just life. My job is to write about it."
Let's Be Still was recorded at Seattle's Studio Litho with assistance from prior production collaborator Shawn Simmons, and mixed in Bridgeport, Conn., with Peter Katis, revered for his work with bands such as the National, Interpol and the Swell Season.1. Homecoming Heroes

Still Crazy After All These YearsThe third new studio album of Paul Simon's post-Simon & Garfunkel career was a musical and lyrical change of pace from his first two, Paul Simon and There Goes Rhymin' Simon. Where Simon had taken an eclectic approach before, delving into a variety of musical styles and recording all over the world, Still Crazy found him working for the most part with a group of jazz-pop New York session players, though he did do a couple of tracks (My Little Town and Still Crazy After All These Years) with the Muscle Shoals rhythm section that had appeared on Rhymin' Simon and another (Gone at Last) returned to the gospel style of earlier songs like Loves Me Like a Rock. Of course, My Little Town also marked a return to working with Art Garfunkel, and another Top Ten entry for S&G. But the overall feel of Still Crazy was of a jazzy style subtly augmented with strings and horns. Perhaps more striking, however, was Simon's lyrical approach. Where Rhymin' Simon was the work of a confident family man, Still Crazy came off as a post-divorce album, its songs reeking of smug self-satisfaction and romantic disillusionment. At their best, such sentiments were undercut by humor and made palatable by musical hooks, as on 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover, which became the biggest solo hit of Simon's career. But elsewhere, as on Have a Good Time, the singer's cynicism seemed unearned. Still, as out of sorts as Simon may have been, he was never more in tune with his audience: Still Crazy topped the charts, spawned four Top 40 hits, and won Grammys for Song of the Year and Best Vocal Performance.
