    Straight Life (Pure Pleasure)

Recorded between trumpeter Freddie Hubbard's better-known classics Red Clay and First Light, Straight Life is actually arguably Hubbard's greatest recording. Hubbard, joined by an all-star group that includes tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson, keyboardist Herbie Hancock, guitarist George Benson, bassist Ron Carter, and drummer Jack DeJohnette, is frequently astounding on Straight Life (check out that introduction) and Mr. Clean, constructing classic solos. The very memorable set is rounded off by the trumpeter's duet with Benson on a lyrical version of the ballad Here's That Rainy Day. This exciting album is essential for all serious jazz collections.

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Straight Shooter

Straight Shooter is the second studio album by British supergroup Bad Company. The original album was released in April 1975.

One of the most acclaimed bands of the classic rock era, England's Bad Company has put its indelible stamp on rock 'n' roll with a straight-ahead, no-frills musical approach that has resulted in the creation of some of the most timeless rock anthems ever. Led by the incomparable singer and songwriter Paul Rodgers, arguably the finest singer in rock 'n ' roll and a huge songwriting talent.

Formed in 1973, Bad Company came to life when Rodgers was looking to start anew after the disintegration of his legendary band Free. His powerhouse vocals and songwriting were a main ingredient during Free's impressive five-year run; a period of time that saw the release of seven extremely influential albums that featured Free's minimalist blues-rock approach. Included among Free's dynamic body of work is the 1970 smash, All Right Now, one of the most recognizable rock anthems ever recorded. Lyrics and melody by Rodgers. He was Free's main songwriter.

    Death After Life

Death After Life, Thug Entrancer's debut for Software Recording Co. is
a deliberately realized collection of dance experimentation and hybridized
electronic music with narrow stylistic precedents. It's also a gripping, somber
tide formed from the gravitational pull of an artist's amble through unknown
    turfs.

Ryan McRyhew's footing as a creative lynchpin in the Denver DIY
electronic music scene shued to the other world and beat of the South side
of Chicago in 2011. McRyhew's new home allowed him secluded time and
space to create in-depth and unconditional music as Thug Entrancer. The
move also provided McRyhew direct access to Chicago's dance music history
and the groundbreaking works being crafted in bedrooms and blasted on
    speakers throughout his neighborhood.

A summation of varied approaches to electronic music, Thug Entrancer's
multiverse is not dissimilar to other Software artists (Slava and Huerco S.,
for example). McRyhew draws inuence from pioneering electronic and
experimental composers who placed an emphasis on extended development
and technique, alongside early analog dance producers who went all-out and
all-in with little more than a TR-808 in their arsenal.

Death After Life is comprised of eight chapters drawn from the album title,
each numbered I through VIII. These portions underscore a pitch-dark
motif thread throughout the album's fty minutes. Death After Life I is
whittled and icy - long echoed claps and panned sawtooth shapes swelter
around the skittering percussive elements over the four-and-half-minutes of
    unsettled, environmental shifting.

Death After Life III delivers rapid-re, straight up acid with a snare heavy rhythm registering in an upper BPM range before fraying into the
sonic beyond.  Death After Life V frenetically lashes out with hi-hat
triplets, lower mix perimeter synths and pounding claps / snare at a
    breakneck footwork pace.

The album's nal cut is the most up-front Juke number. Altogether shorn of
the more abstract spaces heard earlier, "Death After Life VIII" attacks with
the feel of a live, improvised performance. In fact, the majority of the tracks
on Death A!er Life were composed on the y with very few overdubs and
    zero reliance on sampled sources.

While Death After Life reframes elements of Chicago Juke and house in
long-form design, the end result one in which a subtler horizon is discovered,
trumping more palatable musical codes and dissuading us from treating
electronic music, or any genre-stamped style matter, with rote attention.

    All My Life

With All My Life, his second APO Records release, Jimmie Lee is aiming for goose bumps and tears. And if you've got appreciation for acoustic, front porch blues, you'll have a tough time escaping his spell.

No doubt Jimmie Lee Robinson offers a delightful taste of traditional blues. His work through the years with such stalwarts as Little Walter, Howlin' Wolf, Freddie King, Elmore James and Jimmy Reed have made their impressions on the man called The Lonely Traveler just as he has been credited with inspiring them.

On All My Life you'll hear standby classics like a haunting, slowed-down version of Muddy Waters' Forty Days and Forty Nights with eerie harmonica accompaniment by Madison Slim. And Jimmie Lee even covers a non-blues favorite with What a Wonderful World. His live version of that song at a 1999 concert in Blue Heaven Studios - the converted church that is home to APO Records - brought tears to scores of the 400 in attendance.

But All My Life is also packed with Jimmie Lee originals like the title track, which was once covered by John Mayall, where Jimmie Lee pleads with the woman of his dreams to return all the respect and love he's paid to her. That track is also a perfect showcase for the classic Jimmie Lee growling vocals and the spurs jangling from his boots as the only percussion.

Unlike his first APO release, Remember Me, an almost entirely-solo effort, Jimmie Lee is joined on most of the All My Life tracks by APO artist and noted-guitarist Jimmy D. Lane and journeyman harp player Madison Slim, whose knack for acoustic blues is highlighted on this release.

Jimmie Lee has gained national attention for his protest of the destruction of Chicago's famed Maxwell Street, said to be the birthplace of Chicago blues and the neighborhood where Jimmie Lee grew up. He fasted for 81 straight days, shunning solid food as if it was the wrecking ball he so badly wants to stop. His efforts were even documented on the front page of the New York Times.

    The Life Acoustic

Features 10 Tracks From Everlast And House Of Pain's Catalog Performed Acoustically, With The Addition Of Two Covers

Grammy-winner Everlast releases his new album, The Life Acoustic, via his own label Martyr Inc. Records, in partnership with INgrooves. The Life Acoustic is a sort of retrospective on the singer/songwriter's career, with a mixture of classic Everlast and House of Pain material all stripped down to their acoustic essence.

"I wanted to dig up some of the songs that I felt were gems, yet they didn't get enough of a look the first time; and maybe in this light, they'll shine," says Everlast. "I picked my favorite songs, and recorded them straight-up acoustic, maybe a little keyboard and that's it. There's part of me that thinks maybe this is what I'm supposed to be doing I've done a couple of European tours acoustically now, and this just feels like the right time to put out an acoustic album."

The Valley Stream born rapper emerged as a member of Ice-T's Rhyme Syndicate for his 1990 solo album, Forever Everlasting, then formed the pioneering rap group House of Pain with friends DJ Lethal and Danny Boy. Signed to legendary dance and hip-hop label Tommy Boy Records, the group went multi-platinum with their self-titled 1992 debut which produced the legendary rap classic "Jump Around."

Everlast is a genre-bending veteran that has sold millions of records as both a solo artist and a member of two groups (House of Pain and La Coka Nostra.) He's won a Grammy and been nominated for two more. He also received an Emmy nomination for his work on the theme song for TNT's Saving Grace. He's successfully reinvented himself as an artist, started his own label, amassed an impressive art collection, and continues to evolve as a prominent singer / songwriter.

Testimony: Vol. 1, Life & Relationship

Log onto an India.Arie lyrics page and you won't come away expecting an easy-breezy listen--here's an artist, remember, who made a name for herself by declaring her disdain for silicone and Cristal on her 2001 debut. What's consistently a revelation for new recruits to the Arie camp, then, is how good the music makes you feel. No matter how heavy the subject matter (and it still gets heavy--God surfaces in the first verse of Intro, the prayerful opening song), she delivers it in such a way that it ends up feeling like homespun wisdom--accessible, cloudless, and heartening. Testimony, no minor R&B/soul achievement, is full of such earth-mother moments: The Heart of the Matter, a cover of the Don Henley song, is what a hug might sound like if it were music; There's Hope reminds tunefully that you don't have to pay to smile (You better thank God for that); Private Party points up the benefits of getting naked before a mirror and liking what you see (impossible as that sounds, it'll seem less so after listening); and I Am Not My Hair, a sexy thumper featuring Akon, celebrates not the hair, not the skin, but the soul that lives within. Musically, Testament is a testament to the benefits of branching out; in addition to gospel and hip-hop, you'll also find country and pure pop forays here. All of it works, and works wondrously. Arie may be the Oprah of the music world: she's spiritual, she's got her head screwed on straight, and whatever she touches turns to gold. Or at least it ought to. --Tammy La Gorce

    Where I've Been

"I think this is the best work we've ever done," explains JD & The Straight Shot founder and frontman Jim Dolan of the band's latest release, Where I've Been. "I'm so proud of the music that my band and I have put together. I believe in this album."

Produced by Joe Walsh, Where I've Been features several breakthrough singles including "Governor's Song," which challenges some of today's most well-known political figures; "Under That Hood," a transformative single that tells the tragic story of Trayvon Martin; and "Hard to Find," which will be featured in the highly-anticipated film, St. Vincent, starring Bill Murray and Melissa McCarthy.

Dolan's day gig is Cablevision Systems CEO and Executive Chairman of Madison Square Garden, where he also oversees New York sports teams such as the Knicks and the Rangers. Music is his passion.

"I needed something in my life where I felt like I was actually creating," says Dolan. "Most of what I do as an executive is orchestrate. I don't actually set up cable and I don't really shoot hoops," he says, laughing. "Music is something I've played since I was a kid. It's me purely expressing myself."

JD & The Straight Shot's creative nucleus is Dolan and guitarist Marc Copely (B.B. King), who pen all the band's music and lyrics. Instrumentally indispensable is guitarist Aidan Dolan; keyboardist Brian Mitchell (Bob Dylan, Levon Helm); and drummer Joe Magistro (The Black Crowes). Also part of the band are some of pop music's finest session players, bassist Zev Katz (Aretha Franklin, Elton John), and violinist Erin Slaver (Rod Stewart, Trace Adkins, Martina McBride).

Dolan started JD & The Straight Shot in 2000. The band has recorded four previous albums: Midnight Run (2012), Can't Make Tears (2011), Right On Time (2008), and Nothing To Hide (2005) - as well as an EP, Daily News Blues (2010).

The band's style is steeped in the quiet fire of Americana, with distinctive elements of the blues and mystical, rustic, New Orleans-flavored roots music - topped off with a dash of the classic rock of Dolan's youth.

"I grew up on bands like the Allman Brothers," says Dolan. "We played those records until the grooves wore right off of them."

JD & The Straight Shot has been covered by The New York Times, Billboard, and New York Magazine, among other publications, and performed on "Good Day New York." Their song "Can't Make Tears" is the theme song for AMC's TV show Hell on Wheels, and their music has been featured in many films, including the critically acclaimed August: Osage County.

The group has opened for the Eagles on several tours, including the current "History of the Eagles" tour, the "Summer 2010" tour, and the band's stadium tour with the Dixie Chicks and Keith Urban. JD & The Straight Shot has also opened up for both Joe Walsh and Don Henley's solo tours, the James Gang reunion tour, and performed at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Austin City Limits.

Mastered from Original Analog Tapes by Bernie Grundman

    Features Herbie Hancock on Rhodes

Freddie Hubbard entered Creed Taylor's studio for the
third time in 1971 with the express purpose of making
a record radically different from anything he'd cut
before; he was looking for it to use electricity and to be
out of the soul-jazz mold, but was also more ambitious
and wanted to push that envelope and himself. Taylor
and Hubbard assembled a band that included Herbie
Hancock , Eric Gale, George Benson, Ron Carter,
Jack DeJohnette, Airto Moreira, and Richard Wyands.
The album is part of a loose trilogy including his two
previous records, Red Clay and Straight Life. Now
available in its essential form, First Light was mastered

In the early '90s, Life of Agony was a straight-up Hardcore Metal band. They built up a loyal following with their debut River Runs Red, by incessant touring and word of mouth, with little MTV or radio airplay. On their second album, 1995's Ugly, the band chose a different musical path - they melded their Hardcore with the melodic Alternative Rock of Stone Temple Pilots and Alice In Chains.

Longtime fans or the record-buying public were mildly aroused, and the group was now faced with a new dilemma; should they stay true to their newly decided musical direction, or conform to their fans' expectations of what Life of Agony's music should sound like? The group chose to stick to their guns and do what their hearts told them to on Soul Searching Sun.

New drummer Dan Richardson (ex-Pro-Pain) fits the band perfectly, able to handle their musical schizophrenia with no problem.

    Red Colored Vinyl!

Previously Unreleased Performances from January 28, 1981 at Parnell's Seattle, WA!

Cut at Capitol Records by Ron McMaster!

Just in time for what would have been jazz great Art Pepper's 87th birthday (September 1st) and in cooperation with Art's widow, Laurie Pepper and her label, Widow's Taste Music, Omnivore Recordings is pleased to release the first volume in a series of previously unissued live recordings by Art Pepper called Neon Art.

From his early recordings with Stan Kenton's and Shorty Rogers' bands and sessions with Chet Baker, Henry Mancini or Quincy Jones, to his own recordings like classics made for Contemporary and Galaxy Records (The Art Pepper Quartet and Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section) Art Pepper built a legacy of recordings that can only be described as legendary. Thankfully, he also left us a narrative, tracing the history of his life and the roadmap with details of his great recordings in the shape of the book, Straight Life, which Art and Laurie authored together.

The first volume of Neon Art features two tunes drawn from the unissued performances at Parnell's in Seattle, WA on January 28, 1981. Side one features a workout on Art's composition, "Red Car," while side two features "Blues For Blanche," also a Pepper-composed track. Cut at Capitol Records by Ron McMaster and pressed on red vinyl in a see-through jacket, this first volume is aimed at both the longtime Art Pepper aficionado and collector, and to those just coming to know Art's work. It's an entry point into the multifaceted colorful world of Art Pepper. Download card included.

    Telling The Truth

Over the course of eight years, The Numero Group has journeyed to scads of tiny island nations in search of rare and previously unknown recordings. This time we kept it a little closer to home, unearthing a soul-folk curiosity on the one-stop light cay of Nantucket. By no means a thriving musical community in the 70s or otherwise, the limerick-inducing isle played home to Greenwich Village folk singer Willie Wright for a few years, producing his second and final album in the process.

Born of Harlem doo-wop roots and refined by Boston's counterculture scene, Wright arrived in Nantucket in 1976 well worn by two decades of street corner and club performing, eager to make the easy money only a private yacht clientele could guarantee. Trapped on the island over winter, a set of original songs poured into his cover-heavy set. Tales of Wright's native roots, straight life, his abandoned four children, and the many women he had known flooded his loose leaf notebook before finally being set to tape in New York the following spring.

Tracked with George Buzzy Bragg and Herry Jensen (of Skull Snaps and Jimmy Castor Bunch fame, respectively) in one day with minimal overdubs, Telling The Truth was, and would remain, Willie Wright's brightest and most inspired moment. Sold from the trunk of a car and from a handful of resort stages, the humble album disappeared into the collections and garages of Nantucket tourists, taking what was left of a near-30-year career along with it.

Available for the first time since 1977, this expanded edition of Telling The Truth gathers Wright's lone 45 and only original composition from his first LP to tell the definitive Willie Wright story. The deluxe LP edition includes a replica 7 of his cover of Curtis Mayfield's Right On For The Darkness with his original Africa on the flip.

Give Me Convenience Or Give Me Death

Remastered And Available In A Deluxe Gatefold Sleeve

Track for track and album after album, the Dead Kennedys were the most relentlessly political and controversial stateside punk rock band to gain much public notoriety. Originally released in 1987, Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death collects 17 of the band's singles, compilation tracks, and rarities spanning the eight years they played together.

This is a wide and deep collection of favorites like California Über Alles and Holiday in Cambodia, but the real reason to pick up this disc is the more obscure and rare material. From 1979, Night of the Living Rednecks has hyperactive mouthpiece Jello Biafra relating a tale of being chased by irate rednecks while the rhythm sections jams. Their version of I Fought the Law rewrites it into a true-to-life murder ballad, while rippers like Life Sentence, Insight, Pull My Strings and Straight A's are off the map unless you were lucky enough to pick up the original singles or compilations that they're pulled from. And Kinky Sex Makes the World Go 'Round is Biafra at his sarcastic best, as he tells of one corporate head instructing another on the economic necessity of a new war. The DKs were a truly important and relevant band, and Give Me Convenience provides 17 livid reasons why. Boy, could we use them now. -- Carl Hanni

    Chulahoma

Chulahoma is a stopgap EP from the Black Keys, a collection of six covers of songs by cult bluesman Junior Kimbrough, whose 'Do the Rump' they covered on their 2002 debut, Big Come Up. Considering that this is the first time the blues-rock guitar-n-drums duo has devoted an album to nothing but straight-ahead blues songs, it wound seem logical that Chulahoma would be the bluesiest recording in their catalog, but the Black Keys aren't that simple. The six songs on this 28-minute EP are hardly replications of Kimbrough's gritty originals, nor do they have the dirty, punch-to-the-gut feel of any of the duo's three proper albums. Instead, this is the weirdest set of music the band has done to date, a trippy, murky excursion into territory that floats somewhere between the primal urgency of the duo's best work and the dark, moody psychedelia of late-'60s blues-rock. Take 'Have Mercy on Me' its winding, narcotic blues groove settles into a bed of droning organ and bongos, but the interplay between guitarist/vocalist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney prevents it from sounding as affected as psychedelia, while infusing it with a real sense of danger. That unsettling undercurrent flows throughout this brief EP, and it makes Chulahoma an album that's ideal for pitch-black nights, where the music can worm its way into your imagination and then run wild. That alone would make it a unique, noteworthy detour for the Black Keys, but when this is compared to Kimbrough's original recordings, it becomes an instructive listen since a side-by-side listen reveals how Auerbach drew inspiration from Kimbrough's stripped-down, idiosyncratic grooves and took it into some place entirely different. And while that might mean that Chulahoma doesn't necessarily sound like a kissing cousin to Kimbrough's originals, it does make it a greater, richer tribute than most cover albums, and it certainly proves that Auerbach's testimonial in the liner notes about how Junior Kimbrough changed his life is no lie.

bermuda waterfall= invisible action, unconscious fertilization,
    the subconscious master plan continuum

Much of the words to Bermuda (which i feel are the center piece) were written
whilest travelling between one place i loved and another place/people i loved, and
trying to describe my most potent dreams related to my most potent life experiences.
there was a feeling of disappointment in communication with the people that i'm
calling out to connect with through my performances and travels in the last year, a
    feeling of loneliness.

I had to have faith with the meanings of the poetry because more then ever it was
lifted from my life often without being understood, only knowing that they were
events, truths i admired, truthfully complex as anything so haunting can be
interpreted in so many ways, like any dream funny or sexual, or horrifying. not so
much knowing the reasons, but just the experiences as mysterious as they are to me.
i promise that i was as straight forward with the words as possible in describing
    these nuances.

Full of yin and yang, and just sitting back and taking a look at my life, something i'm
happy with, and came naturally in the words of which i intended for the first time
nothing. i'll have to wait a few years before i understand exactly whats going on in
the record, in this time in my life, and i'm alright with that, cos i'm into mystery.

    Go

Jonsi has spent more than a decade writing epic compositions with Sigur Ros, creating some of the finest, most acclaimed albums of the last ten years. The choice to make an album of solo recordings came together as a solution to a backlog of songs Jonsi had written that didn't seem to fit within the Sigur Ros context. Go is a different beast entirely. Ecstatic, dramatic and alive, it features Jonsi's signature vocals throughout, with the majority of the songs sung in English.

Not a straight ahead pop record, nor rock, folk, ambient or electronic, it encompasses all of these to create an expansive musical palette that's been brought to life by Jonsi alongside a number of free-spirited collaborators. Chief among these is Nico Muhly, the Philip Glass protege who is renowned for his work with Bjork, Antony & The Johnsons, Bonnie Prince Billy and Grizzly Bear. Also in the mix is the percussive genius of Samuli Kosminen, whose original drumming powers many of the songs along so you have a sonic landscape that bears little relation to anything else around today, yet explodes from the speakers with sheer happiness and wonder, wide-eyed and eager to be heard. The album was recorded in Iceland and Connecticut, was co-produced by Jonsi, Alex Somers and Peter Katis (The National, Interpol) and was mixed by Tom Elmhirst in London.

    Passover

These are fighting times, people. We are surrounded by grit, spit, and bloody war, but in the distance moving forward is The Black Angels. Passover, The Black Angels debut album, speaks of real-life horrors, death, and destruction with doses of love, sex, and healing. Dont lose track, these are caring times as well.

Formed in 2004 and hailing from the mescaline-infused outskirts of Austin, Texas, this gang of musical misfits has been on the road non-stop since their birth, performing at such renowned venues as Sin-e, Middle East, and Spaceland. In early 2006, the bands self-titled debut EP was dubbed highly recommended in Spin Magazine while receiving heavy radio airplay on such influential stations as KEXP and BBC Radio 1 by Zane Lowe.

Growing in spades since their EP, Passover showcases a band on the make. Spiraling upwards to the skies with the enemy straight on their trail, The Sniper At The Gates Of Heaven sees The Black Angels reaching high and stretching out with trance-inducing guitar lines from Christian Bland, Nate Ryans filthy medical dumpster bass, and the grizzly preacher vox of lead shaman Alex Maas. Black Grease is a bluesy monster full of swagger propelled by the primitive beat of drummer Stephanie Bailey and the mourning drone of organist Jennifer Raines.

10-songs deep, Passover has come again. Reflecting and questioning the intergenerational psychosis of American social life that surrounds us, The Black Angels put forth their answers in song. Its a Call To Arms for those ready to join the good fight, a rock n roll salvation during the times we need it the most. As Maas bellows on Young Man Dead, Fire for the hills, pick up speed, and lets go

Murray Head's Nigel Lived is a groundbreaking classic and one of the boldest, most daring and inventive albums of all time. Recorded by the great recording engineer Phill Brown, Nigel Lived is from the golden era of all-analog recording, a sonic and musical masterpiece that every music lover and audiophile simply must have.

In Spring of 1972 Murray Head was just 25, coming off amazing success on the stage and screen, when he recorded his debut album, Nigel Lived. And Nigel isn't just any album, it's an ambitious, experimental album full of great songs that required stunningly diverse recording techniques and instrumentation on every track. There are beautiful acoustic works that draw a straight line to Murray's later albums like ''Ruthie'' and ''When You Wake Up In The Morning,'' there are straight-up rockers and amazingly innovative tracks like ''Religion'' and the sprawling ''Junk.''

Nigel's story arc unfolds as a three-act play in which Nigel leaves a small town for the big city, finds love and success before crashing into addiction and despair. The background locations, characters and scenes change sonically throughout as Nigel was a adventurous & pioneering effort in blending studio recording with an incredible array of location recordings captured all over London's West End.

In the same way that films today operate on the ''found footage'' motif, Murray's ahead-of-its-time conceptual treatment for Nigel consisted of hand writing a ''diary'' for Nigel that was then ''found'' by Murray, who put Nigel's life to song. It's a brilliant narrative tool that allowed Murray to weave aspects of his own rich experiences in the whirlwind of late 60s London into the songs. Murray saw great success, making a splash on stage in Hair and on-screen in films like The Family Way and John Schlesinger's avant-garde Sunday Bloody Sunday. And he saw the depths working in a drug-addiction clinic and watching friends disappear into and eventually succumb to heroin.

Nigel Lived is driven by Murray's tremendous energy, and the songs are witty, intense, achingly beautiful and exceptionally well-recorded.

    Standards

British soul legend Seal returns with his new album, Standards - combining his unique voice with some of the greatest jazz standards and swing classics ever written. An artist who's been at the top of his game throughout his 30-year career, Seal's 10th studio album breathes life into iconic hits, paying tribute to legends including Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Nina Simone. It will be released on 10th November through Decca Records/Virgin EMI.

Seal said: "This is the album I have always wanted to make. I grew up listening to music from the Rat Pack era, so recording these timeless tunes was a lifelong dream. It was a true honor to collaborate with the same musicians who performed with Frank Sinatra and so many of my favorite artists, in the very same studios where the magic was first made - it was one of the greatest days of my recording career."

Seal's new album brings the glamour of Old Hollywood straight to the present. It is a natural successor to his series of soul records, made a decade ago which sold over 5 million copies around the world. Standards hears Seal's signature, velvety warm vocals bring to life classics made popular by Frank Sinatra (such as 'Luck Be A Lady', 'I've Got You Under My Skin' and 'It Was A Very Good Year'), Ella Fitzgerald ('I'm Beginning to See The Light') and Nina Simone ('I Put A Spell on You'). Elsewhere, there are lush orchestral moments captured on 'Smile' (Charlie Chaplin) and the Cole Porter gem, 'Love For Sale'.

The unmistakable richness of Standards is largely down to Seal's choice to collaborate with the very same, legendary musicians who have performed with Frank Sinatra - Randy Waldman (pianist who toured with Sinatra and Paul Anka), Chuck Berghofer (bass player, who had performed with Ella Fitzgerald and Ray Charles) and Greg Fields (drummer who also performed with Quincy Jones and Stevie Wonder).

The making of Standards became a real pilgrimage for the Grammy Award-winning artist. The songs were recorded in the famous Capitol Records in Los Angeles (the very studio where Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat "King" Cole and many others have created some of the most treasured music of our time), and United Studios, which was established by Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra, where the latter recorded It Was A Very Good Year.

In a career spanning three decades, racking up over 30 million records sales worldwide and a string of Grammy, Brit and Ivor Novello awards along the way, Seal continues to shine as one of the world's brightest music stars. His new album is full of musical gems which glisten when brought to life with his stunning voice.

There Is Nothing Left To Lose

Co-produced with Adam Kasper, the Foo Fighters third album There Is Nothing Left To Lose (1999) is as driven and blatant as the title suggests: powerful, compelling, deliberate, precise and engaging, all at once. Rather than rehash their previously successful songs (Big Me, This Is A Call, Monkey Wrench, Everlong, My Hero), on There Is Nothing Left To Lose, the Foo Fighters delivered a distinct mix of straight ahead rockers (Stacked Actors, Breakout, Generator), mid-tempo, thought-provoking, pop classics (Learn To Fly, Live-In Skin) and stunningly beautiful ballads (Aurora, Ain't It The Life, M.I.A. and Next Year) which combine for a dynamic, forceful mix from what has become one of rock 'n' roll's biggest bands.

    For Better, Or Worse

Oh Boy Records will release John Prine's latest, For Better, Or Worse, a duet album and follow up to the Grammy nominated In Spite of Ourselves. In this timeless album, produced by Jim Rooney, John sings with country sweethearts Iris DeMent, Alison Krauss, Miranda Lambert, Kathy Mattea, Kacey Musgraves, Fiona Prine, Amanda Shires, Morgane Stapleton, Susan Tedeschi, Holly Williams, and Lee Ann Womack.

The classic songs on For Better, Or Worse, originally recorded by artists such as Hank Williams, George Jones, Ernest Tubb, Buck Owens and others, are in John's blood. "I cut my teeth on Hank Williams songs," he says. "When I sing these songs there is a small pipeline straight from my heart to my lips." The tracks take listeners through the universal cycle of love's pull, love's bend, love's life, and love's end.
