Sunset Boulevard is Franz Waxman's 1950 Academy Award-winning masterpiece. During his career, Waxman received 12 Oscar nominations, winning in consecutive years for Sunset Boulevard and A Place in the Sun.

Sunset Boulevard, the 1950 Billy Wilder film, was scored by Franz Waxman. His theme for Norma Desmond was based on tango music, inspired by her having danced the tango with Rudolph Valentino. This style was contrasted with Joe Gillis's bebop theme. Waxman also used distorted arrangements of popular film-music styles from the 1920s and 1930s to suggest Norma Desmond's state of mind.

The American Film Institute ranked Waxman's score for Sunset Boulevard #16 on their list of the greatest film scores.

Nowhere is that more evident that on the group's new album Sunset Motel, an effort that effectively sums up their strengths while marking a new milestone as well. It's been 20 years since the group's founding, and while they've had to fight for wider recognition, fans, critics and contemporaries have been quick to sing their praises.

The band made its Nitro debut in 1996 with Very Proud of Ya followed by Answer That and Stay Fashionable (re-release, 1997), and Shut Your Mouth And Open Your Eyes in 1997. Other releases include, the now classic, Black Sails In The Sunset (1999), the All Hallowís EP (1999), and The Art Of Drowning (2000).

The Leathercoated Minds' 1967 release A Trip Down the Sunset Strip is a one-of-a-kind artifact of the psychedelic era. Originally conceived as an exploitation item, it nonetheless emerged as an enduring musical statement, thanks to the talents of those involved, particularly then-unknown Oklahoma-bred guitarist J.J. Cale.

As its title suggests, A Trip Down the Sunset Strip was originally concocted by noted pop producer Snuff Garrett (known for his hitmaking '60s work with the likes of Bobby Vee, Cher and Gary Lewis and the Playboys) to tap into the wave of publicity that surrounded the Sunset Strip and the Hollywood club scene at the time. For the project, Garrett assigned Cale to cut a set of instrumental versions of then-recent psychedelic hits, which were augmented with four Cale originals. It totally captures the era's heady sense of excitement and inspiration.

The visionary talents of Cale virtually assured that A Trip Down the Sunset Strip would transcend its humble origins, becoming an increasingly rare collectible as its reputation grew. Now back in its original LP configuration, our release has been mastered from Viva Records' original mono tapes, pressed on heavy-duty 180-gram vinyl and is available in a limited edition of 1000 copies!

Sophomore album from Minneaplis indie rock trio ON AN ON. Recorded at the famous Sunset Sound in sunny Los Angeles with legendary producer Joe Chiccarelli (Spoon, White Stripes, The Shins, My Morning Jacket).

On previous records, the Sunsets have plundered a
wide spectrum of musical appropriation (garage-rock,
forgotten AM radio fodder, Modern Lovers, late-era
Clash, Doo-Wop, and the Velvet Underground, to
name a few.)

Mood Baby Moods follows suit, and on this outing we
find the Sunsets, along with producer Merrill Garbus
of tUnE-yArDs, repurposing early '80s funk and new
wave with rap beats and collages from both sides of
the ocean (be it Niles Rogers, Jah Wobble, The Gap
Band, Orange Juice, Trans-era Neil Young or The Tom
Tom Club.) These are songs that juxtapose the haze of
today with a vibrant and colorful explosion of sounds
and 180 degree turns.

Tomorrow is Alright is a vinyl reissue of the debut Sonny & The Sunsets album. Previously out of print, this limited run of 500 copies features 180-Gram Reflex Blue colored vinyl.

"The Sunsets, featuring members of Thee Oh Sees, the Fresh & Onlys, and Citay, plus Sub Pop's Kelley Stoltz largely stay in the background, providing sparse but carefully considered instrumentation. Citay's Tahlia Harbour is the lone exception, although even she's used sparingly; her deadpan counterpoints to Sonny's stoney spaceman
in "Planet of Women" or rationale-spouting youngster in "Lovin' on an Older Gal" are impeccably timed, a fitting geewhiz to Sonny's endless aw-shucks. The production's crisp
and roomy, allowing each word to linger, each note its own space.

On Antenna to the Afterworld, Smith likens himself to a space being visiting Earth using wry humor,
gritty poetry, and a myriad of musical lenses fleshed out by drummer Kelley Stoltz's Joy Division-like
beats, Ryan Browne's new wavish basslines, and Tahlia Harbour's deadpan vocals.
The murder of a close friend of the band led Smith to think a lot about death and life after death.
Shortly after, a visit to a psychic/medium brought Smith into contact with another friend who had
died.

This encounter with the afterworld inspired many of the lyrics on Sonny & the Sunsets' new record.
And what a strangely entertaining odyssey it turned out to be.

drian Lloyd and his backing band The Sunsets were still teenagers when they recorded this highly-prized slab of pure California surf-rock. Long desired amongst collectors both for its brand of high-energy, drum-driven rock 'n' roll and for the crazy swirly vinyl it was pressed on, Breakthrough is a prime example of a genre that still excites fans of early '60s music. Initially envisioned as a film project, each song on Talent Night at
the Ashram was originally a short film that, when strung together,
formed a feature-length movie. Equal parts Fellini and Os Mutantes,
Talent Night at the Ashram is cinematic in its storytelling and
kaleidoscopic in its mixing and merging of musical genres.

'60s folk, electric sitars, flutes, and myriad other sounds help
accentuate tales of professional bowlers in desperate need of a strike
("Icelene's Loss"), a mansion that houses every woman Smith has
ever known ("The Secluded Estate"), and Occupy meetings ending in
bad love ("Secret Plot to Destroy the Underground").

Recording was a communal effort mostly done at Smith's home on
this tape machine with musicians such as Shayde Sartin (The Fresh
& Onlys), Garret Goddard (King Tuff), Kelley Stoltz, Rusty Miller, Ian
McBrayer, and more. Talent Night at the Ashram finds Smith once
again securing his status as one of today's most arrestingly inventive
songwriters.

Sonny Smith copes with a painful separation from his wife on this extremely personal country album. Recorded directly to tape in a musty basement smelling of beer and tobacco, Longtime Companion explores love and heartache along the vein of Gene Clark, The Flying Burrito Brothers, and Johnny Cash.

Music And Dreams is a shimmering, unbuttoned-collar
collection of songs by south Georgia's Robert Lester
Folsom. Originally released on private press in 1976,
there's a professionally rendered and vaguely
psychedelic quality to these songs that belies its
rarified, limited original release. Music And Dreams
spans breezy soft rock (Biding My Time, My Stove's
On Fire), and gorgeous sunset ballads such as
Brown Eyed Lady With Blonde Hair.
