Sunset Boulevard is Franz Waxman's 1950 Academy Award-winning masterpiece. During his career, Waxman received 12 Oscar nominations, winning in consecutive years for Sunset Boulevard and A Place in the Sun.
Sunset Boulevard, the 1950 Billy Wilder film, was scored by Franz Waxman. His theme for Norma Desmond was based on tango music, inspired by her having danced the tango with Rudolph Valentino. This style was contrasted with Joe Gillis's bebop theme. Waxman also used distorted arrangements of popular film-music styles from the 1920s and 1930s to suggest Norma Desmond's state of mind.
The American Film Institute ranked Waxman's score for Sunset Boulevard #16 on their list of the greatest film scores.
Charles Gerhard conducts the London Symphony Orchestra. Recorded by the legendary Kenneth Wilkinson at Kingsway Hall in London.
A series of original orchestral film scores by various greats from the Golden Age of orchestral soundtracks - Bernstein, Herrmann, Tiomkin, Waxman, etc. These may well be the best sounding recordings of orchestral music ever made. Stupendous bass, soundstage, dynamics, low level detail and imaging.
Newly remastered by Bernie Grundman on his completely upgraded all analogue mastering system and reissued on audiophile 45rpm LP for the first time!

Sunset Motel Quick View
xReckless KellySunset Motel
Beginning with Millican, 1998's self-released debut, Reckless Kelly emblazoned a reputation as no-nonsense insurgents capable of raising the rafters while still retaining the heart, soul and sentiment that can only come from honesty, soul and conviction. With every album that followed - Under the Table and Above the Sun (2003), Wicked Twisted Road (2005), Bulletproof (2008), Somewhere in Time (2010), the Grammy-nominated Good Luck & True Love (2011) and the Grammy-winning Long Night Moon (2013) - they've affirmed that commitment, not only in their devotion to essential Americana, but by emulating its very definition as well. No individual or any ensemble, and certainly no poser or pretender better exemplify what that broad genre is all about than this band called Reckless Kelly.
Nowhere is that more evident that on the group's new album Sunset Motel, an effort that effectively sums up their strengths while marking a new milestone as well. It's been 20 years since the group's founding, and while they've had to fight for wider recognition, fans, critics and contemporaries have been quick to sing their praises.1. A Trip Down The Sunset Strip Quick View
xThe Leathercoated Minds Featuring J.J. CaleA Trip Down The Sunset Strip
Mastered From Viva Records' Original Mono Tapes
Pressed On Heavy-Duty 180-Gram Vinyl
Limited Edition Of 1000 Copies
The Leathercoated Minds' 1967 release A Trip Down the Sunset Strip is a one-of-a-kind artifact of the psychedelic era. Originally conceived as an exploitation item, it nonetheless emerged as an enduring musical statement, thanks to the talents of those involved, particularly then-unknown Oklahoma-bred guitarist J.J. Cale.
As its title suggests, A Trip Down the Sunset Strip was originally concocted by noted pop producer Snuff Garrett (known for his hitmaking '60s work with the likes of Bobby Vee, Cher and Gary Lewis and the Playboys) to tap into the wave of publicity that surrounded the Sunset Strip and the Hollywood club scene at the time. For the project, Garrett assigned Cale to cut a set of instrumental versions of then-recent psychedelic hits, which were augmented with four Cale originals. It totally captures the era's heady sense of excitement and inspiration.
The visionary talents of Cale virtually assured that A Trip Down the Sunset Strip would transcend its humble origins, becoming an increasingly rare collectible as its reputation grew. Now back in its original LP configuration, our release has been mastered from Viva Records' original mono tapes, pressed on heavy-duty 180-gram vinyl and is available in a limited edition of 1000 copies!1. Get Lonely Quick View
xThe Mountain GoatsGet Lonely
Get Lonely is every bit as assured as its predecessor, The Sunset Tree, but the mood is entirely different. Sunset chronicled the fraught, violent relationship between John Darnielle and his stepfather and derived its power from an unblinking exorcism of personal demons, while Get Lonely is the haunted aftermath. It's a reflective, intimate record. The mood is one of bittersweet resignation rather than cathartic release. It's a quiet triumph, murmuring with a modest but entirely surefooted confidence. An uncannily coherent and subtly redemptive record which will come to be seen as Mountain Goats' most resonant, assured, and magical collection of songs so far.1. Wild Sage

On previous records, the Sunsets have plundered a

Mood Baby Moods follows suit, and on this outing we
find the Sunsets, along with producer Merrill Garbus
of tUnE-yArDs, repurposing early '80s funk and new
wave with rap beats and collages from both sides of
the ocean (be it Niles Rogers, Jah Wobble, The Gap
Band, Orange Juice, Trans-era Neil Young or The Tom

Pressed On 180-Gram Reflex Blue Colored Vinyl
Tomorrow is Alright is a vinyl reissue of the debut Sonny & The Sunsets album. Previously out of print, this limited run of 500 copies features 180-Gram Reflex Blue colored vinyl.
"The Sunsets, featuring members of Thee Oh Sees, the Fresh & Onlys, and Citay, plus Sub Pop's Kelley Stoltz largely stay in the background, providing sparse but carefully considered instrumentation. Citay's Tahlia Harbour is the lone exception, although even she's used sparingly; her deadpan counterpoints to Sonny's stoney spaceman
in "Planet of Women" or rationale-spouting youngster in "Lovin' on an Older Gal" are impeccably timed, a fitting geewhiz to Sonny's endless aw-shucks. The production's crisp
and roomy, allowing each word to linger, each note its own space.
'Tomorrow Is Alright' feels like the work of a songwriter comfortable with himself and his limitations. So many bands put in a lot of work trying to make themselves sound
older than their years; with their quiet confidence and no shortage of killer material, the Sunsets make it seem almost too easy." - Pitchfork (8.0 review)1. Too Young to Burn

Antenna To The Afterworld Quick View
xSonny & The SunsetsAntenna To The Afterworld
As a writer -- of songs, or plays, or short stories -- Smith has never limited himself to one style or
theme. The restless trend of changing gears dramatically continues on Antenna to the Afterworld,
which marks a total musical and narrative shift from last year's Longtime Companion (a country
record that chronicled Smith's break up).
On Antenna to the Afterworld, Smith likens himself to a space being visiting Earth using wry humor,
gritty poetry, and a myriad of musical lenses fleshed out by drummer Kelley Stoltz's Joy Division-like
beats, Ryan Browne's new wavish basslines, and Tahlia Harbour's deadpan vocals.
The murder of a close friend of the band led Smith to think a lot about death and life after death.
Shortly after, a visit to a psychic/medium brought Smith into contact with another friend who had
died.
This encounter with the afterworld inspired many of the lyrics on Sonny & the Sunsets' new record.

High-Flyin' Surf Rock From Southern California on 180 Gram Vinyl!
drian Lloyd and his backing band The Sunsets were still teenagers when they recorded this highly-prized slab of pure California surf-rock. Long desired amongst collectors both for its brand of high-energy, drum-driven rock 'n' roll and for the crazy swirly vinyl it was pressed on, Breakthrough is a prime example of a genre that still excites fans of early '60s music. Featuring the should-have-been-a-hit title track and many other almost-classics, Adrian Lloyd's high flyin' slab is an essential part of any surf-rock collection.
Now Sundazed brings this long-out-of-print album to you the way you want it -- pressed on swirly colored vinyl, with brand new liner notes by John Blair, author of The Illustrated Discography of Surf Music, 1961-1965, and featuring an abundance of great bonus tracks including the hard to find single "She Treats Me Better Than You" and the killer unreleased tracks "Drums In Orbit" and "On Moonlight Bay." Plus, the CD brings you even more treats, including the highly-desired single "Lorna" and the unreleased track "Mersey Girl," written to cash in on the British Invasion. "Sonny Smith's endlessly prolific San Francisco psychpop band Sonny
And The Sunsets crank out loopy, fun, lofi tunes at scary rates"
- Stereogum
Initially envisioned as a film project, each song on Talent Night at
the Ashram was originally a short film that, when strung together,
formed a feature-length movie. Equal parts Fellini and Os Mutantes,
Talent Night at the Ashram is cinematic in its storytelling and
kaleidoscopic in its mixing and merging of musical genres.
'60s folk, electric sitars, flutes, and myriad other sounds help
accentuate tales of professional bowlers in desperate need of a strike
("Icelene's Loss"), a mansion that houses every woman Smith has
ever known ("The Secluded Estate"), and Occupy meetings ending in
bad love ("Secret Plot to Destroy the Underground").
Recording was a communal effort mostly done at Smith's home on
this tape machine with musicians such as Shayde Sartin (The Fresh
& Onlys), Garret Goddard (King Tuff), Kelley Stoltz, Rusty Miller, Ian
McBrayer, and more. Talent Night at the Ashram finds Smith once

Gold Colored VinylSonny Smith copes with a painful separation from his wife on this extremely personal country album. Recorded directly to tape in a musty basement smelling of beer and tobacco, Longtime Companion explores love and heartache along the vein of Gene Clark, The Flying Burrito Brothers, and Johnny Cash.

After just one listen, it's clear no other genre could so eloquently frame Sonny's heartbreaking internal monologue more than the old time country music he grew up with. 180g gold vinyl LP.

xL.A. GunsHollywood Forever
Formed in 1986 at the height of the Sunset Strip metal explosion, L.A. Guns has become one of the Golden State's great musical dynasties, stretching into its fourth decade and showing no signs of fading. The band's first 3 albums are celebrated as definitive expressions of the no holds barred, melodic metal that consumed Hollywood and the nation in the late '80s and continues to find new audiences, generation after generation. Through numerous line-up changes and a wildly shifting musical landscape, the group has survived and thrived by staying true to the ethos and sound that earned the group its legion of dedicated fans.
It's been 7 whole years since the last L.A. Guns studio album, 2005's Tales From The Strip, but that long wait is about to end with the release of Hollywood Forever, the band's newest effort and perhaps their best yet! With vocalist Phil Lewis at the helm, this album draws on the group's greatest strengths including the propulsive drumming of longtime Gunner Steve Riley, the gigantic riffs of virtuoso guitarist Stacey Blades and the solid grooves of bassist Scotty Griffin. Add into the mix one of rock music's most celebrated producers, Andy Johns (The Rolling Stones' Exile On Main St., Led Zeppelin's IV), and this band is ready to once again conquer the Sunset Strip!1. The short-lived Viva Records label was one wildly eclectic outfit. Helmed by hitmaker Snuff Garrett, this Los Angeles-based imprint targeted the teen marketplace with a series of extraordinary garage / psych / pop singles. The labels command of popular styles prevailed across these Top 40 hopefuls, ranging from the stomping beat of the Shindogs to the psych-fuzz nirvana of the Sound Sandwich. And theres Class of 66 garage-grunge from the Wailers and the Second Helping (yes, thats a teenage Kenny Loggins howling at the moon on the positively snarling Let Me In, among other selections).
