    Tomorrow Forever

Matthew Sweet's new album, Forever Tomorrow, was recorded at his new studio - Black Squirrel Submarine - in Omaha where he now lives. Matthew engineered, performed on guitars, keyboards, bass, and god knows what else, sang lead and background vocals and mixed the recordings. The record was mastered for vinyl at the famed Abbey Road Studios in London by Sean Magee, a longtime veteran at the studio. Sean won a Grammy for his Beatles reissues and has recently won accolades for his remastering of the John Lennon solo catalog reissues. The record will be released on Sweet's label, Honeycomb Hideout.

    Live At The Marquee 1986

Limited Edition 140 Gram White Vinyl

Back in the mid '80s, Andy Scott, guitarist, songwriter and producer was living in London carving out a new career for himself after forming Sweet who had no less than 13 UK Top 20 hit singles from 1971-1978 when he bumped into his old agent and from that meeting he decided to put together the next generation of the band.

Mick Tucker on drums, Paul Mario Day (ex Iron Maiden) on vocals, Phil Lanzon (Uriah Heep) on keyboards and Mal McNulty (Slade) on bass and Andy of course on lead guitar. It was one hell of a line up and a band with a much harder edge which is where Andy had always been keen to take Sweet.

Live At the Marquee was originally released in 1989 even though the concert had been recorded in 1986 prior to the Clubs closure in 1988. Two additional live tracks from that performance have been added as bonus tracks which are available for the very first time on vinyl!

    100% Fun

Released in 1995, 100% Fun is the fifth album by Alternative Rock musician Matthew Sweet. Matthew Sweet's guitar-dominated, hook-laden power Pop runs through its 12 songs at a swift pace.

Behind Sweet's bright hooks lies something darker, the self-loathing of Sick Of Myself and the mental manipulation of We're The Same aren't evident from the sound of the record, which obliterates any hidden meanings with its chiming guitars and driving rhythms.

Sick of Myself was a big hit in 1995, placed in the Mainstream Rock Chart, Modern Rock Tracks, and The Billboard Top 100.

    Sweet Heart Sweet Light

For an artist as consistent as Spiritualized's Jason Spaceman, whose 7th studio album Sweet Heart Sweet Light will see its release on Fat Possum, it's easy to assume that there's a certain effortlessness to the creative process. In fact, the three years since the release of 2008's acclaimed Songs in A&E were some of the roughest imaginable for Jason.

After a near death from double pneumonia in 2005 it was a slow road to recovery, a process he touched upon on with great grace on the last album. His return to full health saw him release Songs in A&E and mount critically lauded performances of his 1997 game-changer Ladies And Gentlemen....We Are Floating In Space on both sides of the Atlantic.

However, shortly after recording Sweet Heart Sweet Light in far flung locales such as Los Angeles, Reykavik and Wales, Jason found himself weakened by a degenerative liver disease and was subjected to six months of chemo treatment, a procedure that left him virtually housebound while he mixed the album.

In a classic case of triumph over tribulation, the resulting album is Spiritualized at their most vibrant; full voiced and utterly sublime. In Jason Spaceman's orbit rock and roll is the salve and listeners will hear all of the epic grandiosity and brain worming melodies for which they're renowned, as well as the gorgeous gospel delium that makes hearing a new Spiritualized album an exhilarating and emotional experience.

"Hey Jane," an energetic 8+ minutes of rousing organ, glittering guitar fuzz and swirling choirs, is first the single and indication that new album Sweet Heart Sweet Light is another epic body of work from the anthemic master. It's been three years in the making for renowned perfectionist Jason Spaceman and the resulting music captured in this first single, showcases them at their most vibrant and sublime.

The album also features a first for Spiritualized: Jason is joined by his 11 year old daughter Poppy Spaceman on the starkly beautiful So Long You Pretty Thing for which she also has a writing credit for the opening couplet. Elsewhere on the album is I Am What I Am which was co-written by Jason and Mac Rebennack aka Dr. John.

    Sweet Time

Formed in 2005 by guitarists and singers Brian Vanderwerf and Jesse Tomlinson, from Twin City contenders the Midnight Evils, as a rollicking but conventional two guitars/bass/and drums lineup, Chooglin' made their offical debut in November of 2005, opening up for Reigning Sound and the Detroit Cobras. The full Chooglin' line-up now consists of Vanderwerf and Tomlinson on guitar and vocals, bassist Paul Diorio, drummer Shawn Walker, trombonists Harold Longley, Steve Erickson and Zach Zins, and trumpet player Bob DeBoer.

Discovered by Big Legal Mess while playing a show with Fat Possum artists Hezekiah Early and Elmo Williams during the Deep Blues Festival, Chooglin' recorded Sweet Time at Minneapolis' legendary Creation Studios, home of everything from the Trashmen's Surfin Bird and Davd Dudley's Six Days on the Road to the Replacements' Tim and several Husker Du records. With a bleating horn section and ferocious guitar playing, the band is a boogie-rock juggernaut that has the guts and the skills to deliver greasy, proto-Stax soul with as much power and conviction as their relentless, riff-driven rockers.

Terry Manning is best known as an engineer and producer who spent the '60s and '70s in Memphis working for Ardent and Stax Studios on some of that city's most important records, from Isaac Hayes to Big Star. In 1970 he cut the album Home Sweet Home and it was released on the Stax subsidiary, Enterprise. Originally intended as just a vanity project, Home Sweet Home is now a highly regarded and collectible LP, praised for its innovative studio trickery and Manning's offbeat arrangements, especially on the epic opening 10-minute version of George Harrison's "Savoy Truffle." Brooklyn soul singer Lou Johnson was a singer and pianist who actively
recorded between the years of 1962-1972. As a teen he sang in gospel
choirs and studied music at Brooklyn College.

In 1962 Johnson signed with Bigtop Records, run by the Hi ll & Range
publishing group located in the Brill Building. It was during this tenure that
Johnson befriended the iconic songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and
Hal David. They wrote his first three singles, "If I Never Get To Love You,"
"You Better Let Him Go," and "Reach Out to Me." The first two songs failed
to connect on the charts but the third reached #74 on the Billboard Hot
100 in 1963. Unfortunately Bigtop folded just as the song began to climb
the charts and Johnson's success with the song was hampered.

He then signed to Big Hill and continued his association with Bacharach/
David. In 1964, his original version of "Always Something There to Remind
Me" with backup vocals by Doris Troy, Dee Dee Warwick and Cissy Houston
reached #49 in the US charts. Lou also recorded original versions of other
Bacharach/David songs that went on to become bigger hits for artists such
as Dionne Warwick and Adam Faith.

Johnson recorded two albums for Atlantic Records, one of which, Sweet
Southern Soul, is our featured voting title here. Released on Atlantic's
subsidiary, Cotillion in 1969, it was produced by Jerry Wexler and Tom
Dowd at Muscle Shoals Studios. Featuring the Muscle Shoals band and
including songs by Curtis Mayfield, Eddie Hinton and Don Covay, it had all
the elements of a classic Atlantic soul album of the era but failed to garner
much attention. His final full length, With You in Mind, was produced by
Allen Toussaint for Stax's Volt label but it too sunk like a stone. Johnson
later moved to Los Angeles and became a nightclub entertainer. Sweet
Southern Soul is a classic crate digger record and would find a welcome
home in any soul collector's library

    Sweet Bird of Youth

An epic collection of garagey, fuzzed-out, indie rock tunes. There are a lot of strange, grandiose pop songs on here, featuring plenty of reverbed and bombastic distorted guitar, some of it even sounding like Bob Mould's Flying V on a couple of tracks. The songs are very layered, with several different things going on over the course of the song. It's quite an achievement that only four bandmembers were able to pull this off. An analog keyboard at one also brought into play, and the interesting aspect is the layers of distortion that blanket the sound it generates, resulting in an almost orchestral feel to the songs it presides over. With this Rock*A*Teens record, Merge Records has yet another great album to feature on its already magnificent roster.

    Sweet Blood Call

At the time this album was recorded, the particularly intense blues artist Louisiana Red was a protÉgÉ of the Blue Labor/Labor recording empire, which was actually two guys, Kent Cooper and jazz arranger and composer Heiner Stadler. Cooper's involvement with Red led, as in many cases of blues producers and their clients, to co-authorship on some of the songs recorded. Cooper and Stadler regarded Red as an artist cut from the same cloth as John Lee Hooker or Lightning Hopkins, and of the same quality -- meaning an intense, mood-setter of a bluesman with a sizzling improvisatory style. They were certainly accurate in their appraisal of his talent, and their interest in recording Red led to several classic blues albums. The fine studio sound they got on these solo recordings makes for a superior album, and it was the first Red would record unencumbered by a combo backing him up. Every nuance of his playing is captured, and he is definitely the type of blues player who thrives on solo work. He rarely sticks to a formula bar structure and likes to stretch out his licks as if casting out a line for fish, but he isn't a player who just stays on one chord like Hooker often did. One of Red's original blues, in which he describes how his wife died of cancer, has got to set some kind of a record for misery described in a blues song, meaning it is the saddest of the sad.

    Asunder, Sweet And Other Distress

"If Godspeed around the turn of the millennium felt like a band of the moment, now, in a time of rapid cultural turnover and bite-sized music consumption, they feel out of step in a very necessary way." - PITCHFORK

"This Montreal collective still sound like nothing else The Godspeed ethos of wordlessly eliciting universal truths remains as devastatingly effective as ever." - THE GUARDIAN

Godspeed You! Black Emperor (GYBE) returns with its first single LP-length release
since the group's earliest days in 1997-99. 'Asunder, Sweet And Other Distress'
clocks in at a succinct 40 minutes and is arguably the most focused and bestsounding
recording of the band's career. Working with sound engineer Greg
Norman (Electrical Audio) at studios in North Carolina and MontrÉal, GYBE slowly
and steadily put the new album together through late 2013 and 2014, emerging with
a mighty slab of superlative sonics, shot through with all the band's inimitable
signposts and touchstones: huge unison riffage, savage noise/drone, oscillating
overtones, guitar vs. string counterpoint, inexorable crescendos and scorchedearth
    transitions.

Following Godspeed's return from a long hiatus at the end of 2010 to begin playing
live shows again, and with the hugely acclaimed 'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!
release in 2012 marking their first new release in a decade, the group continued to
perform regularly on their own headlining tours (and as headliners at many leading
festivals), often including a new multi-movement piece in concert over the past
couple of years. Known to fans and through live show recordings by the sobriquet
"Behemoth", GYBE has gradually distilled this new work down to a fastidious and
uncompromising essence in the studio, with the swing-time swagger of the opening
unison riff in "Peasantry or 'Light! Inside of Light!'" giving way to increasing
microtonal divergences and an exhilarating immersion in the harmonic power of
massed amplified instruments, before collapsing into some of the most visceral and
unalloyed noise/drone the band has yet committed to tape on "Lambs' Breath" and
"Asunder, Sweet". The album closes with "Piss Crowns Are Trebled", a 14-minute
piece of vintage Godspeed, where ascending and descending guitar and violin
melodies intertwine over gut-rattling distorted bass in 3/4 time, segueing into a
pummeling four-on-the-floor series of sparkling, soaring crescendos.

'Asunder, Sweet And Other Distress' finds Godspeed in top form; a sterling
celebration of the band's awesome dialectic, where composition, emotion and
'note-choice' is inextricable from an exacting focus on tone, timbre, resonance and
the sheer materiality of sound. The album is available on 180 gram vinyl in a
gatefold jacket with printed inner dust sleeve and insert poster. Thanks for listening.

    Sweet Summer Sun-Hyde Park Live

This summer, over 100,000 delirious fans packed into Hyde Park for two spectacular outdoor concerts to see Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood do what they do best. The Stones delivered a five star performance packed full of hits such as 'Start Me Up', 'Brown Sugar', 'Jumpin' Jack Flash', 'Miss You', 'It's Only Rock 'N' Roll', 'Gimme Shelter', 'Doom And Gloom' and 'Sympathy For The Devil', as well as one or two surprises.

Mick Jagger said: "It was a great gig It was beautiful with the sun going down over Hyde Park. I can't think of a better way celebrate the Rolling Stones' 50 than doing it on our home patch in front of 100,000 people on a glorious summer night enjoy it we certainly did."

Keith Richards commented: "Coming back to Hyde Park was like a full circle being drawn, and the band were in top form. We thought what could be more appropriate than having a great summer in London!"

From the second the Rolling Stones stepped out onto the stage each night, through to the dazzling firework and pyrotechnic display that heralded the end of the concert, fans old and new were treated to a non-stop, hit after hit performance, which took them through the Stones' huge back catalogue. Keith Richards wowed the crowds by weaving his charismatic guitar licks with Ronnie Wood's immense solos, Mick Jagger was on spectacular form, his boundless energy on stage matched by a number of stunning outfit changes, and Charlie Watts the unflappable heartbeat of the band, driving the band on through the set.

Former guitarist Mick Taylor - whose live debut with the Stones took place at the original 1969 Hyde Park concert - joined the band on stage to guest on the bluesy 'Midnight Rambler' and on closing track 'Satisfaction', whilst long-term live band members Lisa Fischer, Darryl Jones, Chuck Leavell, Bernard Fowler, Bobby Keys and Tim Ries all added their inimitable flair and finesse.

The Rolling Stones Sweet Summer Sun - Hyde Park Live is the perfect way for concert-goers to relive their favourite memories from the gigs, and for their fans to see the band back where they truly belong: live on the stage in their hometown.

    Sweet Sister Funk (Pure Pleasure)

From the mid to late 60's the producer Sonny Lester was at the helm of some of the period's most significant jazz music (Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra, Chick Corea, Duke Ellington's 70th birthday concert) and also some of the genre's biggest hits (mostly from organist Jimmy Mcgriff). With the folding of the Solid State label in 1971 Sonny Lester formed the aptly named Groove Merchant label (named after the tune Jerome Richardson wrote for the Jones-Lewis Orchestra). He then produced some of the periods most notable soul/jazz, jazz/fusion from the likes of McGriff, Richard Groove Holmes, Reuben Wilson, Lonnie Smith to name but a few.

This gem of an album from Ramon Morris, and one of the hardest to find on Groove Merchant, was recorded during what many people would consider to be the classic period for this particular brand of jazz/funk/soul/fusion. It was recorded not long after he'd spent time with Art Blakey as a Jazz Messenger appearing on his 1972 Prestige album Child's Dance along with Stanley Clarke and Woody Shaw. He then also recorded on the Woody Shaw album, also from 1972, Song Of Songs.

He now teaches at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa.

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Such Sweet Thunder (Pure Pleasure)

This music counts among Ellington's most well-realized 'concept projects', all inspired by Shakespeare's work and filled with memorable melodies and ample opportunities for solos by Cat Anderson, Johnny Hodges, Paul Gonsalves, and Quentin Jackson. The Ellington-Strayhorn compositions treat their soloists like actors doing scenes and, in effect, playing parts, even quoting lines after a fashion - Clark Terry 'plays' Puck in Up and Down, Up and Down (I Will Lead Them Up and Down), and Johnny Hodges turns in one of the most sensuous performances of his career for Half the Fun, from Antony and Cleopatra.

    Musicians:

    • Duke Ellington (piano)

    • Johnny Hodges

    • Russell Procope (saxophone)

    • John Sanders (trombone)

    • Britt Woodman (trombone)

    • Ray Nance (trumpet)

    • Clark Terry (trumpet)

    • Jimmy Wood (bass)

    • Sam Woodyard (drums)

    G. Love & Special Sauce are a Philadelphia-based trio whose laid-back, sloppy blues sound is quite unique, as it encompasses the sound/production of classic R&B and recent rap artists (the Beastie Boys, in particular). The group is composed of G. Love (born Garrett Dutton) on guitar/vocals/harmonica, Jeff Clemens on drums, and Jim Prescott on upright bass. (All Music Guide)

Three-time Grammy Award winner Lucinda Williams is set to release This Sweet Old World - a re-recording of her beloved 1992 album Sweet Old World - to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its release.

This Sweet Old World features updated interpretations of songs such as "Prove My Love", "Sidewalks of the City", "Memphis Pearl" and "Lines Around Your Eyes". Williams breathes new life into classics "Pineola", "Sweet Old World", "Something About What Happens When We Talk", "Little Angel, Little Brother" and Nick Drake's "Which Will". "He Never Got Enough Love" is transformed with additional verses, new sound and new title, "Drivin' Down A Dead End Street", which was the song's original title.

The arrangements on This Sweet Old World are tighter and rawer than the original and feature Williams' fantastic touring/studio band: guitarist Stuart Mathis, bassist David Sutton, and drummer Butch Norton. Guitarist Greg Leisz, who actually participated in the early sessions for the 1992 album, adds his masterful playing to the new recordings.

As if re-recording an entire studio album was not already an unprecedented move, Williams and company also chose to re-record the four tracks that were not included on the original release. This Sweet Old World features new versions of "Factory Blues", "Dark Side of Life", John Anderson's "Wild and Blue" and the John Leventhal/Jim Lauderdale-penned "What You Don't Know".
