UNIM-ROU-3092xSteve Martin & The Steep Canyon Rangers
The Long-Awaited AlbumRather than a departure, Martin's musical career is an extension of the storytelling impulse that drove his work as a comedian, an actor, a screenwriter, a playwright, an essayist, and a novelist.
'The Long-Awaited Album,' Steve Martin's brand new project with the North Carolina Grammy-winning group the Steep Canyon Rangers, is full of stories that mix humor and melancholy, whimsy and realism, rich characters and evocative details. And lots of banjos. That instrument-so dexterously, even acrobatically picked and strummed-proves just as crucial to relating these tales as the lyrics themselves, each chord and riff revealing depths to Martin's narrators and to his musical talent.1. Speak Your Mind (Pre-Order)Speak Your Mind is the rich fruit of the past two years' work and a hyper-confident artistic statement. On her debut offering Anne-Marie's playfully infectious pop spirit entwines with her celebrated humor, charisma and idiosyncratic storytelling - attributes that have set her apart from her peers and seen her become one of the UK's most-loved female breakthrough stars of recent years.
A sonic masterclass, Speak Your Mind spans a number of personal yet relatable topics that only Anne-Marie could unite so compellingly: album opener Cry is a message to the ex-boyfriend who wants you back after ditching you for someone else; the empowering Perfect is an ode to self-love and appreciation; the vulnerable Machine imagines a world free of the negativity and worry that life throws at you; while 2002 - a track Anne-Marie co-wrote with long-time friend and champion Ed Sheeran - recalls memories of a childhood sweetheart.1. Rough And Ready (Speakers Corner)Great talent and low morals well describes the groupie-loving and colleague-killing Jeff Beck - and no fear of denial! But this fast-paced life demanded its toll, which came in the form of a life-threatening car accident. The ace on the guitar was forced to retire for two years but returned to the scene full of vigour and with new musicians to launch the second Jeff Beck Group.
Rough And Ready doesn't offer what might be expected from Brit Rock as far as a heavy sound or the boss's egomaniacal leaps on the guitar strings are concerned. Bob Tench opens the album with a surprisingly soulful sound and soaring falsetto in Get The Feeling. But then in the next number, Situation, we have crackling fire from the lead guitar and inventive solos - all easy-going and down-to-earth. Beck wouldn't tolerate routine rock: this is obvious from Max's Tune, in which developing melodies are hacked to pieces by the clash of cymbals. To round off the album, the band sings about Jody with constantly varying rhythms and fascinating harmonic twists, which genially and firmly find their way along the narrow path between sentiment and testosterone. So much roughness is a must!

- Bob Tench (vocals)
- Max Middelton (piano)

About Speakers Corner
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.1. Got the Feeling

Cello ConcertosThe greatest cellist of modern time -- well, who could argue with a statement like that? After all, Mstislav Rostropovich is a supreme virtuoso, a charismatic performer, and a sublime interpreter and virtually every one of his recordings is as good as it gets for the repertoire. The key word, of course, is virtually: while Rostropovich's Dvorák concerto with Karajan, his Beethoven sonatas with Richter, his Brahms sonatas with Serkin, and above all his Shostakovich sonata with Shostakovich are definitive, can one say the same of his Boccherini, Vivaldi, and Tartini concertos with Paul Sacher? Or could one say that Rostropovich does not so much play the music of the great Italian Baroque composers as overwhelm it, that his virtuosity, his charisma, and his interpretations are more than the music can bear and that the listener is left not with fond memories of the music but instead with the overpowering impression of an unstoppable musical personality having his way with the music. The results are initially awe-inspiring but may ultimately prove to some to be empty. Accompanied -- the more appropriate word might be enabled -- by Sacher and the Collegium Musicum ZÜrich, the greatest cellist of modern times came, saw, and conquered the finest cello concertos of Baroque times. Whether that's a good thing or not is up to the listener.

First Time 180 Gram Audiophile Release!
Mastered From The Original Chrysalis Records Tapes By Joe Reagoso
Whenever Robin Trower releases an album, it's always a musical event.
As the third in a perfect hat trick of multifaceted career defining albums, the
legendary British guitarist (co-founder of Procol Harum) unleashed one of the
most popular albums in his ever enduring catalog in 1975, For Earth Below.
This masterwork unites the guitar hero again with his powerful team
of world class musicians, the late great James Dewar on simmering lead
vocals & bass, and the powerful drum work of Bill Lordan. The brilliant guitar
shredder and his amazing band truly throw down some of his classiest and
hardest driving, best known repertoire for this Robin Trower and Procol
Harum band mate production by Matthew Fisher.
arum band mate production by Matthew Fisher.
The album begins with his hard rocker Shame The Devil. The tune finds
Robin Trower blazing on some very solid power riffs making this the ultimate
opening track for the listener.
The soulful hypnotic blues of It's Only Money has the tremendous voicing
of Robin's guitar with Bill Lordan's fine percussive elements and James'
signature vocal work throughout, truly making this one of the finest songs in
Trower's four decade career as a solo artist.
Always an astute bluesman, Robin Trower's Confessin' Midnight retains
a solid groove which allows the progressive guitarist to power away with
some very intricate fret work, making this album the classic that it is.
Hard rock fusion continues with more classics like his powerful funk
infused Alethea, the hard rock champion, Gonna Be More Suspicious, and
the ultimate Trower title smash For Earth Below, truly rewarding his fans with
another masterpiece album in his gold and platinum career!
It is with much honor to announce the first time limited Anniversary Edition

Up To HereImport
Canada's favorite boys the Tragically Hip push the sounds of heartland and down-home country-rock on their second album, Up to Here. This album also marks the band's first stateside release, and basically it's a record of burgeoning talent, suggesting what is yet to come from the Tragically Hip. Frontman Gordon Downie is raw and rugged, twisting American trad rock into gritty rock & roll. There's a lot of heartfelt emotion woven into pure musical swagger on songs like New Orleans Is Sinking and When the Weight Comes Down. Blow at High Dough follows the lead of its foot-stompin', hand-clappin' rock tracks.

American V: A Hundred HighwaysThe ethical questions surrounding this final album in the American Recordings series are as unavoidable as they are, ultimately, peripheral. While the
vocal tracks were recorded in the months just prior to Johnny Cash's passing in September 2003, the arrangements weren't undertaken until two years
later. And though producer Rick Rubin had become a trusted friend, the Man in Black wasn't around to approve or disapprove, let alone guide, the final
sessions. However, if the pure power of these recordings doesn't quiet the skeptics, nothing will. With Heartbreakers Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench
and slide guitar session pro Smokey Hormel on board (all three of whom appear on earlier Cash albums), along with guitarists Matt Sweeney and Johnny
Polansky, the sound is stately and acoustic, but rarely staid, even as the dynamics of earlier recordings in the series are absent. Instead, the songs have
a measured, elegiac intensity, the sound of musicians choosing their notes carefully and making just the right choices.
The songs Cash sings are, unsurprisingly, confessional and reflective: his mortality and his mistakes, his maker and his salvation, and the loss of his wife
June and the end of his career may have weighed on his mind, but in these songs he both embodies and transcends his personal history. On God's
Gonna Cut You Down, as the musicians clap and stomp behind him, his voice cuts through the air like that same avenging hand. On the new original
Like the 309--the last song Cash ever wrote--he cops to being short of breath, and that voice becomes a metaphor for what each of us will one day face.
On Gordon Lightfoot's If You Read My Mind, Rubin flirts with overwhelming the damp bittersweetness of Cash's phrasing in tasteful atmospherics, but
the voice is implacable, hitting and finding notes one never expected he'd have the will to find. Likewise, it's hard to believe this is his first recording of Ian
Tyson's Four Strong Winds; the elemental narrative seems to have been written for him. Two songs, however, Cash has recorded before: the bornagain
hymn I Came to Believe and the final spiritual, I'm Free from the Chain Gang Now. The latter especially is a definitive testament, as is his version
of Bruce Springsteen's Further On (Up the Road). One sunny morning we'll rise, I know / And I'll meet you further on up the road, he sings. If only,
John, if only. --Roy Kasten1. Help Me (Album Version)
