The Ultimate Analogue Test LP
Analogue Productions set out to produce the ultimate test record.
We've consulted many experts in the field, including mastering engineers, audio experts, turntable experts and audiophile listeners, to create a test record that's never been made before. When Barry Wolifson from Sterling Sound in New York City called us with the same idea we had been thinking about - that being to create the ultimate test record - he and our audio expert Clark Williams began to brainstorm and research ideas until they were both completely satisfied with what should go on the record.
Most of the test records in the past have been made to test a variety of equipment. This test record excludes silly cannon shots, typewriters, voices on one channel and other useless fluff. This one specifically addresses your turntable and cartridge. It's designed to provide the basic test signals necessary to calibrate a turntable or cutting lathe as simply as possible. Most of the signals have specific implications, but it is certainly possible to use them in any number of novel ways.
This record was mastered and cut on a Neumann VMS 80 lathe at Sterling Sound and pressed at Record Technology, Inc. on high-quality, 180-gram virgin vinyl.
General Reference Level
This 1 kHz reference tone will allow you to establish a "base level" for all measurements.
Track 1 1Khz reference tone 7cm/s Mono, in phase (Lateral)
Basic reference for all measurements, adjust meter for maximum convenience (in the studio 0VU).
Adjust preamp channel balance for equal output.
Also used to check the offset angle of the photo cartridge; L&R signals should be exactly in phase as displayed on an oscilloscope.
Track 2 1kHz reference level Left channel only
Measure Right channel output.
Track 3 1kHz reference level Right channel only
Measure Left channel output.
The object is to sit the stylus exactly perpendicular in the groove.
Twist cartridge about its radial axis until the measurements from Track 2 and Track 3 are equal or very close to equal for both channels.
High Frequency Adjustment
Tracks 4, 5 and 6 are used to calibrate the RIAA high frequency equalizer of a phono preamp. This will be used to calibrate a mastering lathe's phono preamplifier or any phono preamplifier that has these adjustments.
Track 4 1 kHz tone at -20 below reference level, Lateral
Reference for High Frequency test.
Track 5 10 kHz reference tone at -20dbu, Lateral
Adjust the high frequency until the output level equals that of Track 4.
Track 6 1 kHz to 20 kHz sweep at -20dbu, Mono (Lateral)
The AC millivoltmeter reading should stay constant across all frequencies. There are a number of factors which can affect frequency response, including cable capacitance, cartridge loading, tracking force and worn parts. Because of this, it can be difficult to achieve perfectly flat frequency response. Sometimes by making small compromises in the 10 kHz adjustment, a better overall frequency response can be achieved.
Low Frequency Adjustment
Tracks 7 & 8 are used to calibrate the RIAA low frequency equalizer of a phono preamp.
Track 7 1 kHz to 20 Hz sweep at 0 VU (Lateral)
Play Track 7 and measure the output with your AC millivolt meter.
Ideally, the output will be flat across all frequencies. When viewed on an oscilloscope, the amplitude would remain constant during the frequency downsweep.
Track 8 100 Hz reference tone at 0 vu (Lateral)
Adjust LF Eq to reference (which is your reading from Track 1).
Track 9 VTA adjust
This is an IEC intermodulation distortion (IMD) test signal; 60Hz & 4kHz 4:1 ratio.
Using an IMD tester, adjust VTA by raising or lowering the tonearm for minimum distortion.
Track 10 Standard Wow & Flutter test signal; 3150Hz
The Wow & Flutter meter will give dynamic speed variations as a percentage deviation from nominal.
Also, the frequency counter should read exactly 3150 Hz for nominal speed. You can use the Hz function on your multi-meter (if so equipped) to verify speed here as well. You can also use to find the measurements at 45RPM. The correct reading at 45RPM would be 4253 Hz (45/33.33) x 3150.
Track 1 Anti-skating test; 315Hz amplitude sweep to +12dbu (Lateral)
Signal should remain clean in both channels up to the highest level, both audibly and as viewed on an oscilloscope. In case of distortion, increase anti-skating force or decrease anti-skate until breakup occurs equally in both channels. The left channel information is inscribed on the inner groove wall, the right channel information, on the outer groove wall. Because of the offset angle of a pivoted tonearm, a constantly varying vector force biases the arm towards the center of the record causing the stylus to lose contact with the outer (i.e. right channel) groove wall. Both linear and modulated groove velocity, tracking force, stylus profile, and vinyl composition are contributing factors. The anti skating force attempts to ameliorate this by applying an opposing similar force.
It is also accepted that the overall force vector increases as the tonearm approaches closer to the spindle or end of the record.
Track 2 Pink noise lateral
Track 3 Pink noise vertical
Used for cartridge "demagnetizing"
You can also use this track to loosen up the cantilever's suspension to help break in a new cartridge. Play these tracks five to ten times after every 300 hours of normal LP playback.
Track 4 1kHz @ reference level, vertical
This out-of-phase signal should cancel to nothing when summed to mono.
Any signals still present are distortion artifacts, lack of channel balance, or timing (phase) anomalies. This test can be a second confirmation of anti-skate adjustment.
Track 5 1kHz to 10Hz sweep @ -20 below
reference level, vertical
Resonance anomalies in the tonearm / cartridge interface will show up as amplitude peaks and dips as the frequency sweeps down.
Once again, by listening in 'Mono' it is easier to hear the distortion artifacts.
Track 6 Silent groove for bearing rumble and table isolation
During playback of this track, nothing should be transmitted from the turntable to the speakers. Replay the track and gently tap on the rack or base that the turntable is resting on. There should be little or no thump transferred to the speakers. This track will help you experiment with turntable isolation methods and products to be able to get the most out of your playback system. You may want to use a closed or sealed headphone for best listening results, or a stethoscope on the plinth.

Vinyl CheckThis record creates new possibilities of inspecting and adjusting record players. Most tests (except for frequency response) can also be carried out without measuring instruments, just by listening, and are therefore particularly well-suited for the ambitious music listener who wants to know how well his system deals with demanding signals under realistic conditions, and whether there is a need for repairs or improvements.

Musik Wie Von Einem Anderen Stern: Manger Test LP (Discontinued)The Manger LP test consists of 15 tracks, many of which are already known to the audiophile crowd. For example, tracks 11 and 12 are by Chesky Records, the well known Livingston Taylor selections. Track 3 is a Beethoven's Piano Sonata (# 8, C-Dur, Op. 13) by Denon/Nippon Columbia. Still from the same label is track #4 (from Denon Professional Test CD): Beethoven Ich liebe dich, Hermann Prey. Then there's something from Philips, Klavier Records, Divox Jazz etc.
The quality of the chosen tracks is excellent, as one may expect from a test disc. The Manger LP test offers different kinds of music, from classical to jazz and light pop. Each track is meant to test a particular instrument or musical genre, so you have track no. 8 which is devoted to classical guitar (Capriccio Arabo), track no. 9 for double-bass, track 12 for an acapella choir and so on.
The last track of the disc is devoted to a percussion ensemble (The O-Zone Percussion Group), always very useful to test rise-time, decays and macrodynamics. This audiophile test LP is very interesting, reasonably priced and with a good selection of excellently recorded tracks.

Cartridge Break-In Test RecordMultiple endless grooves of pink noise for cartridge break-in and other tracks for cartridge set-up
Phono cartridges usually need a running-in period to reach their full potential. This can take anything from 40 to 100 hours, depending upon the manufacturer, design and construction of the phono cartridge.
This Clearaudio Cartridge Break-In Record is a unique too. Playing an endless groove cut with pink noise significantly reduces the length of the break-in period.
Six continuous pink noise tracks are provided at various positions on the record (track numbers are 5, 6, 7, 9, 10 and 11).
To enable frequency response measurement of the phono cartridge, track 3 comprises a sine-wave frequency sweep from 20 Hz to 20 kHz.
There are two separate 240-second tracks containing a pink noise signal for measuring and testing the set-up of the whole system.
Tracks 4 and 13 are recorded with no signal to test the noise floor of the entire hi-fi system.
Finally, tracks 8 and 12 contain a special signal to optimise and adjust the anti-skating force. Both channels are recorded with a 316 Hz sine-wave with continually changing phase difference from 0 to 360 deg, so that the stylus movement repeatedly changes from lateral to vertical and back again. The signal level changes accordingly from -22 dB to +8 dB, corresponding to a maximum velocity of 9.81 cm/s or a maximum displacement of 50 lm, horizontally or vertically.1. Test For Echo200 Gram Vinyl LP
Features Etched Designs on Side D of the Album
Test for Echo is the sixteenth studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, released in 1996. It marks the final Rush work prior to the tragic events in Neil Peart's life that put the band on hiatus for several years. He recorded a majority of his drum tracks for the album using traditional grip, after receiving drum lessons from jazz instructor Freddie Gruber.
After flirting with alternative rock on Counterparts, Rush returns to classic progressive rock on Test for Echo. Cutting back many of the AOR production flourishes that hampered most of their late-'80s and early-'90s releases, the band concentrates on the sounds and styles that made albums like Moving Pictures huge successes in the late '70s and early '80s. Test for Echo is all instrumental gymnastics and convoluted song structures, all of which demonstrate each member's skills. And the key to the album is the individual performances.
The title track reached #1 on the mainstream rock chart. Driven became a bass showcase for Geddy Lee during live performances, while Resist was rearranged as an acoustic song on the Vapor Trails and R30 tours. Since then, the band has not performed any tracks from the album in concert.1. Test For Echo

LP Record, DISC and Cable Demagnetizer 110VAC
The Furutech DeMag completely demagnetizes LPs and optical disc media such as CD, CD-R, DVD, MD, Game CD, Photo CD, SACD, and DVD Audio. Plus it's an indispensable accessory for keeping interconnect cables, connectors and power cords demagnetized to prevent magnetic signal distortion. Demagnetization isn't Just For Optical Media Anymore! One year factory Warranty. The deMag works for disc media as well as cables, connectors, and power cords! No part of the playback chain should be disturbed by resolution-sapping magnetic interference. Demagnetizing LPs How can an LP be magnetized? It's plastic! The fact is that pigment added to the plastic during the manufacturing process is the culprit. The minute amount of ferrous material in the pigment causes LPs to become magnetized. Testing at the Tokyo Nanotechnology center with a IHI Gauss meter showed that after an LP was treated with the deMag the magnetic field of the LP was lowered from 620~630 nT to 572~582 nT (nanotesla: a unit of magnetic field strength,1 Tesla = 10,000 gauss) Demagnetizing Cables Electric current generates a magnetic field as it flows through a power cord or conductor. However, magnetic impurities within the materials themselves become magnetized and introduce further magnetic distortion. Just loop your cables and power cords with their connectors on the deMag and begin treatment. No matter how valuable or expensive your system is, the only way to achieve top performance is by demagnetizing your problems away! There are no other demagnetizers on the market that can be used in such a versatile and effective way. The deMag Demagnetizer can even be used on metal-based accessories like CD stabilizers or speaker terminals.$2,715.00DeMag (110V) - LP, DISC and Cable Demagnetizer Buy Now

After their first album made the Crash Test Dummies huge in their home country Canada, their second album meant their big break in the USA and Europe, thanks to the self-consciously bizarre lyrics and the deep baritone voice of singer/songwriter Brad Roberts, demonstrated in their worldwide top ten hit MMM MMM MMM MMM.
Other popular singles off the album were Afternoons & Coffeespoons and Swimming In Your Ocean. 'God Shuffled His Feet' was the band's most commercially successfull album reaching Top Album charts in USA (#9), UK (#2) and in different countries in Europe (ironically, after a car accident where Brad Roberts almost lost his arm, Crash Test Dummies made a few other albums but unfortunately limited distribution made these hard to find).1. By DesignTest of Time's members are no strangers to the punk scene, from frontman and photographer Todd Pollock to guitarist/vocalist and record label proprietor Charles Chaussinand to bassist and ex-Energy/Daytrader road dog Robert Cheeseman (the band also features Beartrap's Mike Assatly on guitars/vocals and Jeff Novak on drums). After unleashing a prolific amount of material considering their formation two short years ago, including one self-released 10-song demo (2012's Inclusion), two EPs (2013's The Price and the more recent A Place Beyond) and several cover singles, the band has crafted a proper full-length debut of speedy, howled youth crew hardcore à la Youth of Today, Bane and In My Eyes. By Design is guided by the careful, detail-oriented approach of architectural planning (as hinted at by its visual motif), and uses that focus to deliver unexpected shifts in tempo dynamic, musically and lyrically sly references to hardcore's past, and sincere decrees pertaining to vegetarianism, The Straight Edge, perseverance, and one's own personal growth and change.1. These Are The JBsThe Unreleased Album By James Brown's Backing Band: The Bootsy Collins-lead JB's
Never-before-heard James Brown and J.B.'s originals and covers of Jimi Hendrix, Kool & the Gang, the Meters. Contains a 12-page booklet with full annotation, liner notes by Brown historian Alan Leeds and never-before-published photos.
This album is the Rosetta Stone of funk's dominant idioms, yet its existence has barely been a rumor. In 1970 James Brown perfectly captured a definitive moment in modern music when he ordered Bootsy Collins into the studio to record the tracks that would be test pressed on King Records as These Are The J.B.'s. This album is the epitome of funk music, Brown's innovation that influenced everything that came after it, from Afro-beat to disco to hip-hop. And if there is any funk ensemble as influential as Brown's, in the post-"Cold Sweat" musical landscape, it's the Parliament/Funkadelic contingent. Those two streams, as Grammy Winning James Brown historian Alan Leeds details in this album's liner notes, converged for the first time here.
This link between Brown's funk and all that followed features Bootsy and his young band running through twelve-minute instrumental take of Marva Whitney's "It's My Thing," replete with blues chord changes, alongside interpretations of the Meters, Kool and the Gang and none other than Jimi Hendrix. This is a young band's James Brown-turned-on-his-head style of funk that they nail in a one-minute vamp that pre-dates their obscure but important work as the Houseguests ensemble and embodies the essence of the psychedelic-flavored music that would propel them into the orbit of
George Clinton and his mothership, where they poked cosmic holes in funk's polyrhythmic ozone layer in the mid-1970s.
There are only two extant copies of the original King Records test press LP of These Are The J.B.'s. This, the first commercial issue of this album, was overseen by Now-Again's Egon alongside Leeds and Universal Music Group's James Brown expert Harry Weinger. It was mastered specifically for vinyl by Elysian Master's Dave Cooley from the original two-track stereo master that James Brown and his engineer Ron Lenhoff delivered to production forty-four years ago. It comes with a 12-page booklet with liner notes by Leeds and Egon and many unpublished photographs and ephemera.

Fused with heavy blues, gospel and rock and roll, I Got a Woman was one of Ray's very first top charting hits
soon to be followed by other #1 smash hit singles like Mess Around and A Fool for You. More hit singles graced his first
album as well with Hallelujah I Love Her So, Ain't That Love and This Little Girl of Mine. The Ray Charles album itself
on its own merit is truly a Greatest Hits LP, whereby most of these early Ray Charles' hit tracks have been covered
hundreds of times by some of the most important voices in popular music, like The Beatles, Elvis Presley, The Steve
Miller Band, Van Morrison, Peggy Lee, Johnny Winter, Jerry Lee Lewis, Stevie Wonder and many others.
Also included on this debut masterpiece are some of Ray Charles' more definitive blues rockers like the powerful
Come Back Baby, the rockin' Greenbacks, the #1 blues rocker Mary Ann, and the brilliant soul sounds of Don't You
Know, Drown in My Own Tears and Losing Hand.
The Ray Charles album forever etched the name superstar and genius with Ray Charles as the LP reached the
upper rungs of the popular, jazz and R&B charts and has become an American institution which will forever stand the
test of time. Being one of his rarest LP's of his career, the magnificent album has not been officially released on vinyl
in over five decades and fetches hundreds of dollars for a mint used copy if you can even find one.

Science Vol. 5Bizzy B continues his journey into the darkside with four brand new tracks and the fifth installment of his Science EP series. Lead track Jah Works devastates dancefloors with its sub-bass depth charges and savage amen, lightened up with a dose of sweet dub vocals before crashing back in with Bizzy's famous edits and some choice rave stabs. Sound Test surprises with a little Soca guitar riff, while Flava brings some G-funk synth into the equation. The closer, Exceeding The Speed of Sound, beefs up the classic Bizzy sound to round out a nicely varied set.$8.9910'' Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed Buy Now
No Guts, No GloryOver a journey spanning nearly a quarter-century, moe. has let their knack for dynamic, democratic improvisation influence nearly every facet of the
band's existence. In concert, they stretch the boundaries of their source material into intricate, set-long suites where distinct songs seamlessly segue into
one another in exhilarating fashion.
Behind the scenes, moe. continues to evolve - to test their musicianship and songwriting while growing as an ensemble - by applying the same
resourcefulness and willingness to take risks to their studio recordings. Their new album, fittingly titled No Guts, No Glory, finds moe. at their most inventive, infectious, and resilient.1. Annihilation Blues

MontroseThe Legendary Debut from Sammy Hagar, Ronnie Montrose, Denny Carmassi and Bill Church
Mastered Impeccably by Joe Reagoso and Kevin Gray from the Original Warner Bros Tapes
In 1973 a hard working rock band named Montrose set the world on fire with their debut album simply called Montrose. Ronnie Montroses guitar work was that of legendary proportions even that early on and what he also brought to the game was a newcomer and future superstar Sammy Hagar to the hard rock music world. With heavy pile drivers like Bad Motor Scooter and Rock The Nation, the album and the band Montrose rose to fame rather quickly and became trailblazers for many hard rock outfits for years to follow.
Produced by Ted Templeman (Van Halen/The Doobie Brothers) and Montrose, the Montrose album was full of great songs and superstar delivery from Ronnie Montrose (guitars) and Sammy Hagar (vocals), as well as a solid rhythm section provided by Denny Carmassi (drums) and Bill Church (bass). This quartet rocked the house then and now with tunes like Rock Candy, Make It Last and the Roy Brown classic Good Rockin Tonight.
In an effort to continue to bring you the best recordings ever made on this planet, Friday Music is very proud to announce the 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl first time release of Montrose. Mastered impeccably by Joe Reagoso and Kevin Gray from the original Warner Bros. tapes at Friday Music Studios, this amazing debut continues to resonate and bring hard rockin excitement with every listen.
