    Animals

Animals is innovative and musically diverse. Inspired in part by George Orwell's political fable Animal Farm, Roger Waters condemns the avarice and inequalities of capitalism, metaphorically and musically grouping humans as pigs, dogs, and sheep. The pigs are self-righteous hypocrites inflicting their beliefs on everyone else, the dogs greedy money-grabbers, and the sheep witless followers. Dark, cynical, and brilliantly composed, Animals is an ingenious and under-acknowledged album. -Naomi Gesinger

    Complete Animals

First Ever 3 LP Version Of This Animals Best-Of

This triple vinyl package includes the complete sessions that The Animals recorded with producer Mickie Most in 1964 and 1965. The 40 songs capture the band at their peak, including most of their best and biggest hits: House of the Rising Sun, Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, Bring It on Home To Me, We Gotta Get Out Of This Place, I'm Crying, It's My Life and Boom Boom.

Many of these songs are covers of vintage R&B/rock tunes by Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, and the like. The Animals produced some great album tracks, such as I'm Mad Again (originally by John Lee Hooker), Worried Life Blues, and Bury My Body.

After leaving Most, the group would maintain their peak for another year or so despite the departure of one of Rock's all-time finest organists, Alan Price. This compilation has everything that Price recorded with the group, including four previously unreleased cuts and the non-LP Eric Burdon original on the B-side of It's My Life, I'm Gonna Change the World.

    'Til Your River Runs Dry

Eric Burdon has completed his most personal album to date, titled 'Til Your River Runs Dry. A member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and hailed by Rolling Stone as one of the "100 Greatest Voices of All Time," Burdon has long forged new ground while maintaining a commanding presence in the music marketplace as front man of The Animals, with War at its inception and simply as Eric Burdon. In 2012, Eric's influence is enjoying resurgence with both new artists and superstars.

The album was produced by Burdon and Tony Braunagel and recorded in New Orleans in 2010 and 2011 in California at Playback Studios in Santa Barbara and at Ultratone Recording in Studio City where Eric recorded his last two albums, My Secret Life and Soul of a Man. The new album was mixed by Ed Cherney and mastered by Doug Sax and Eric Boulanger at The Mastering Lab in Ojai, California.

Eric discusses the album: When I started out with the Animals I never dreamed that I would grow old, much less be singing on stage at the age of 70," said Eric. "There I was, in my twenties, singing "When I was Young," as if I was already an old man. Now, I can look back at a life with many ups and downs, and thankfully, I can reflect on where I am and where I've been. I'm privileged to be able to look back at the many paths and highways that I've traveled. At this point in my life, I'm very comfortable in this place where I am."

    Animals In The Dark

The songs on this Anti debut sound cultivated from the fertile, treacherous Mississippi mud that surrounds William Elliott Whitmore. Whitmore's ability to balance contrasts; suffering and humor, truth and fancy, the literary and the earthy, places him in a tradition that has drawn young dissidents to folk music since before Dylan's time. With two albums behind him featuring his stunning voice, a powerful instrument that can recall Leadbelly and Otis Redding within the same song, and traditional banjo and guitar, Whitmore has made a name for himself in both the punk and roots communities.

    Electric Comic Book

The Blues Magoos launched their recording career with the LP Psychedelic Lollipop. The equally impressive Electric Comic Book refines the band's mix of rock 'n' roll and day-glo psychedelia. That punchy yet playful approach animates such distinctive numbers as Pipe Dream, Rush Hour, There's a Chance We Can Make It and Albert Common Is Dead.

This '60s garage-psych nugget is now available from Sundazed on High Definition Vinyl, sourced from the original Mercury-label stereo masters, with the colorful original cover art meticulously reproduced.

In their '60s heyday, the Blues Magoos were one of the first garage-punk bands to achieve mainstream success, and one of the first to embrace psychedelia. Early in their existence, the Bronx-bred quintet's high-energy live sets made them a popular attraction on the Greenwich Village club scene. Once they began making records, they quickly emerged as one of one of the earliest and most inventive exponents of the psychedelic sound. The band's 1966 debut album Psychedelic Lollipop and its 1967 followup Electric Comic Book, are two of that period's most beloved and enduring albums.

    Centipede Hz

Centipede Hz was co-produced by Animal Collective and Ben H. Allen III and recorded at Sonic Ranch studios in Tornillo TX (outside of El Paso) by Ben H. Allen III and mixed at Maze Studios in Atlanta, GA by Ben H. Allen III.

Centipede Hz is the tenth full length Animal Collective album following the widely celebrated Merriweather Post Pavilion (2009) and also the first since Strawberry Jam (2007) to feature all four original band members: Avey Tare, Panda Bear, Geologist and Deakin. As the album's opening bars of drum crashes and radio interference on "Moonjock" immediately make clear, having returned as a four piece, Animal Collective have made their most widescreen and fully realized music to date.

Once touring for Merriweather Post Pavilion was concluded at the end of 2009, Animal Collective released their visual album Oddsac on DVD. The film was also screened internationally at theaters and film festivals. The band created Transverse Temporal Gyrus, an installation for the Guggenheim Museum in New York City and subsequently released a 12" single of the performance and launched a website to distribute music from the event. The period between Merriweather Post Pavilion and Centipede Hz also saw the release of two solo albums: Avey Tare's Down There (2010) and Panda Bear's Tomboy (2011).

Regrouping as a four piece with original member Deakin once more in the band, Animal Collective reconvened in their native Baltimore in January-March of 2011 to write material for Centipede Hz with a further session later in the year. Rather than swapping ideas over the internet and file-sharing Animal Collective were, for the first time in many years, exchanging ideas in the same room by playing live instruments.

As a result Panda Bear returned to playing a sit-down drum kit for the first time since Here Comes The Indian (2003) and Geologist began playing live keyboards again. Along with using some of the samplers and sequencers with which they had previously been writing, the sound of Centipede Hz draws on the dynamics and energy of Animal Collective playing together as a band. The return of Deakin is at its most marked in "Wide Eyed," a song that he wrote, featuring his first ever lead-vocal performance and whose title captures the mood of Centipede Hz perfectly.

Part of the inspiration for Centipede Hz included the band's memories of growing up listening to station announcements and commercials on the radio and imagining the after life of radio signals from the past, forgotten transmissions that are now lost in space and broadcasting music from other planets for other life forms. This is reflected in the sound of Centipede Hz, which features the white noise of radio interference and buried frequencies overlaid with the band's peerless melodic sensibilities and compositional methods. The result is a panoramic set of songs that shimmer with the confidence and wonder of Animal Collective's unique inner logic and the luminous warmth of their sound world.

Animal Collective: Avey Tare (vocals, synthesizers, piano, guitar, sampler, sequencer, percussion); Panda Bear (vocals, drums, sampler, percussion); Deakin (vocals, baritone guitar, sampler, percussion); Geologist (sampler, synthesizers, piano, percussion) with: Dave Scher (Beachwood Sparks, All Night Radio) lap steel guitar on "Today's Supernatural," "New Town Burnout," "Pulleys," and "Gotham," and melodica on "Rosie Oh" and Riverside Middle School Choir, which sings on "Father Time" and "New Town Burnout."

AnCo's 11th album overall, Painting With follows 2012's Centipede Hz. While that album saw band member Deakin rejoin the lineup after skipping out on 2009's Merriweather Post Pavilion, he's once again absent on Painting With. In place of Deakin, Avery Tare, Panda Bear, and Geologist were joined by the likes of John Cale and Colin Stetson.

The trio started working on the album earlier this year with the goal of creating "really short songs: no B.S, get in, get out material " according to Avey Tare. The result is 12 tracks concerned with and inspired by "art (Cubism, Dadaism, and the distorted way those artists viewed the world) and the human experience, and the meeting of both."

Painting With will be released with three different covers, each featuring a painting of one of Animal Collective's members done by Brian DeGraw.

    Salmon Colored Vinyl

Voted Portland's 2012 Best New Band by Willamette Week

One of NPR's Artists you should've known in 2012

There is a stillness between kissing lips that belies the beating hearts connected to them,
a calm in the simple gesture that holds tumultuous emotions close, keeping their caprice
from pulling you apart. For the past three years, Radiation City has scored the soundtrack
to relationships such as these. Moments where Quiet/Bombast, Future/Past,
Man/Woman, Hope/Fear are conjoined; from their use of modern electronic sounds and
the restraint of classic bossa records, to the urgency and harmony of northern soul, the
band has codified seemingly disparate ideas into a sound and ethos that is at once
refreshing and classic. Their second LP Animals In The Median will be released May 7th.
Founded in 2009 amid the glow of one budding love affair, Radiation City quickly
blossomed into a family, finding itself with a second couple and another multi
instrumentalist besides. If the quintet's early live shows and debut LP The Hands That
Take You quickly earned them a reputation as one of Portland, Oregon's most promising
young acts, the subsequent national tours and 2011's EP Cool Nightmare made good on
that promise. The band's expanding soundscape of new romanticism has drawn
accolades from NPR, Time, and KEXP to name a few.

The new full length features 12 songs recorded over the span of a year in both rural
Washington and urban Portland. You can hear a focused songwriting, lush arrangements,
and gorgeous harmonies. You can hear the celebration and lament of a sea change year
which saw the passing of matriarchs, the betrayals and betrothals of loved ones, the
baring and bruising of hopeful hearts in an increasingly dangerous world. Moreover, you
can hear a band edified, coming into their own in rich and simple gesture.

Henderson - Prokofiev: Peter And The Wolf / Saint-Saens: Carnival of the Animals (Speakers Corner)

For those who enjoy a pun, Saint-Saëns's Carnival of the Animals and Prokofiev's symphonic tale for children Peter and the Wolf might well be described as "beastly". And this recording makes no exception for it is, indeed, quite spectacular! Both works are introduced by the roaring and screaming of the inhabitants of London Zoo. The individual orchestral instruments are introduced during the course of the music and are commented upon by a human voice in a narrative.

The characters and animals are each given a characteristic theme which is presented by a particular instrument or register. While Prokofiev wrote his composition with a pedagogic purpose in mind, Saint-Saëns's main aim was to create a piece of musical fun. The mischievous work not only offers a lively depiction of various animals and even hollow-sounding fossils (by means of the xylophone), but also contains numerous tongue-in-cheek references to works by great composers.

These two musical masterpieces combine humour with education in a thoroughly fascinating and enchanting manner and are equally loved by children and adults alike. The interpretation and sound of this DECCA LP certainly earns first prize for being "beastly"!

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Wild Animals

Wild Animals, the highly anticipated album from critically acclaimed Trampled by Turtles,
produced by the lead singer-songwriter of Low, Alan Sparhawk, and recorded in the legendary Pachyderm Studio in Cannon Falls, MN (Nirvana, Andrew Bird, The Jayhawks).
Of the new music Dave Simonett (guitar, vocals) notes, "We all tried to come into this
thing extremely open-minded. How can we sound new to ourselves? I feel like the sound
has changed and is changing, especially from Palomino to now. A lot of our reputation
from even just a couple years ago was that we were this fast band, which we can do,
and we do that. But this record focused a little bit more on other aspects of our playing
    together."

    Animal Mother

Visionary metal cult known as TODAY IS THE DAY prepares to assault the masses with their tenth full-length album, Animal Mother.

As always, the dejected and vengeful hymns TODAY IS THE DAY delivers with their latest opus are among the most scathing passages of audio one will experience, as Animal Mother unloads just short of a solid hour of pure anguish. The band's lineup features the rhythm section of bassist Sean Conkling (Regression, Burn Your Halo, Sprawl) and drummer Jeff Lohrber (Enabler, ex-Harlots), fronted by cult leader, founding guitarist/vocalist Steve Austin. Through fifteen diversified attacks, Animal Mother's wrath recalls elements of several seminal TITD albums, merging the dementia of Temple Of The Morning Star with the blazing delivery of In The Eyes Of God, yet several acoustic and more melodic angles elevate the LP's material to entirely different dimensions. Pain and hate are blatantly abundant in Austin's seething and venomous lyrical tirades and emotional outcries. The Animal Mother recordingsessions took place at the notorious architect's own Austin Enterprises in the deeply wooded Maine wilderness this brutal past Winter, the material fully produced and mastered by Austin. The cover art for Animal Mother was created by Samantha Muljat.

For two and-a-half decades, TODAY IS THE DAY has woven Steve Austin's prophetic observations and noise-soaked chaos through a psychedelic, unique and unmatched battery of heavy styles. The outfit has spawned an incredible discography, forging their way to the forefront of Amphetamine Reptile, Relapse, Blackmarket Activities and many others. The band has toured with countless acts including Motörhead, Morbid Angel, Helmet, Neurosis, The Melvins, Napalm Death, Coalesce, Unsane and Eyehategod. Additionally, Steve Austin has produced nearly all of TITD's releases, as well as groundbreaking albums for Lamb Of God, Converge, Deadguy and many others.

    Spirit Animal

Zombi's Spirit Animal is a tour de force whose up-tempo moods, patented psychedelic poly-rhythms and bouncing, lush interplay between men and machines ushers in a scintillating new era for the band. With an outpouring of genuine emotion and melody, Spirit Animal gives instrumental music the punch it needed by blending a genuine sense of warmth and emotion with the darkness the band is heralded for.

    Animal Joy

Sub Pop is proud to present Shearwater's Animal Joy, our first album by the band and their eighth overall. Led by Jonathan Meiburg, and featuring drummer Thor Harris, and bassist Kimberly Burke, Shearwater has been a favorite at Sub Pop HQ for years. On Animal Joy, Meiburg ditches the expansive approach of his recent records - particularly the epic trilogy of Palo Santo, Rook and The Golden Archipelago - to create a record that seems shockingly direct, immediate and intensely personal. He's no stranger to lush, crafted recordings, but this one sounds like no prior Shearwater incarnation.

    Sunbathing Animal

Late in 2012, the New York-via-Texas band Parquet Courts released their debut album Light Up Gold, a burst of smart, sardonic, punchy postpunk that turned them into one of indie's greatest prospects when What's Your Rupture? gave the LP a wider release early last year. A few months ago, they followed it up with their Tally All The Things That You Broke EP. Sunbathing Animal is their sophmore album.

    Animal Feelings

Rafter's latest long player, Animal Feelings, is a Technicolor pop blow-out that recalls Nintendo composer Koji Kondo leading a fantasy camp super-jam with Cody Chesnutt, Justin Timberlake, and the Tom Tom Club. Rafter's history and influences, his dreams and ambition, and his love for love, all come together as a sweet, fun, speaker-blowin', beat-busting ride into the inner-core of pop and R&B music.

    Animal Magic

Right, let's not beat about the bush - Bonobo's debut longplayer is, by popular consensus, 'the business'.

An awe-inspiring showcase of a young man's staggering musical ability, 'Animal Magic' was greeted with swoons of delight and sycophantic praise upon its release in July 2000. Its heart-meltingly lysergic melodies - all bellchimes, backwards vocals and haunting keys - weave an impenetrable gauze of sound that astounded practically everyone who heard it.

Bucking the late-90s reliance on sampling, Simon Green (the man behind the monkey) wrote, played, recorded and produced the entire record himself. The result is an album with such depth and breadth of emotional and melodic content that every track is a potential favourite. Little wonder, then, that 'Animal Magic' numbers among Tru Thoughts' all-time bestsellers.

"Anyone in search of the ultimate chill-out album should buy this debut" - The Observer

"Wonderfully subtle and easy on the ear. This is chill out music with balls - not a clichÉ in sight" - DJ Magazine
