Vision of Disorder is an American band which releases albums both in the hardcore punk direction as in the alternative metal scene. The five-piece group worked together with producer D. Sardy (Red Hot Chili Peppers) to record their second album Imprint. In the new wave of American heavy metal they recorded one of their best albums. With the terrific vocals of Tim Williams, alternating between clean singing and screaming, and the trashy riffs the album gets an aggressive look. But there are also plenty of melodic parts in which they shows their versatility. Tracks like Colorblind and By the River are both brutal as beautiful.
Since Vision of Disorder reunited in 2008 they're hitting the road again with their hardcore an metal music.1. What You Are

Sugarland, the bestselling country duo of Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush, will release their first album since 2010, Bigger, via Big Machine - and it will include a collaboration with Taylor Swift.
The follow-up to their last studio set The Incredible Machine will feature 'Still The Same,' the lead track that was unveiled in December, among its 11 new songs, ten of which were written by Nettles and Bush. The exception is 'Babe,' co-written by Swift and Pat Monahan of Train. Swift, labelmates with Sugarland at BMLG, also appears on the song.
The news follows Swift's hugely successful first turn as a composer for another country act, when her song 'Better Man,' which topped both Billboard's Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts. It then won Song of the Year at the 2017 CMA Awards and then Best Country Duo/Group Performance at the 2018 Grammy Awards.
"The music that we have written, it's become really clear to me that we are making music that people need to hear right now," Nettles recently told Rolling Stone. "Not just as Sugarland, but in the world. I think the messages and the themes that are in this music will be healing."

19 (Pre-Order)Release Date: July 6, 2018*
19 is the debut studio album by English singer-songwriter Adele. It was originally released on January 28, 2008, through XL Recordings. Following Adele's graduation from the BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology in May 2006, she began publishing songs and recorded a three-song demo for a class project and gave it to a friend. The friend posted the demo on Myspace, where it became very successful and led to interest from XL Recordings. This led to Adele signing a recording contract with the label and providing vocals for Jack Peñate, during this session for Peñate's song she met producer Jim Abbiss, who would go on to produce the majority of her debut album.
Adele wrote most of the album's material solely but did work with a select few writers and producers including Jim Abbiss, Eg White, and Sacha Skarbek. Their collaborations created a blue-eyed soul album with lyrics describing heartbreak and relationship. Upon release, 19 received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised the singer's vocals and noted her as having the potential to become among the most respected and inspiring international artists of her generation. 19 also won and was nominated for numerous accolades including a Mercury Prize, and the Grammy Award for Best New Artist. The second single, Chasing Pavements, also won the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards.
Four singles were released from the album, with Chasing Pavements and Make You Feel My Love reaching the top ten on the UK Singles Chart and the former becoming Adele's first Billboard Hot 100 entry. 19 debuted at number one on the UK charts during its release and was certified eight times platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) with sales of over 2.4 million copies. Peaking at number four on the US Billboard 200 in 2012, the album has also sold over 3 million copies in the United States and an estimated 7 million copies worldwide.

Shelter (Pre-Order)Release Date: June 15, 2018*
London-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Olivia Chaney follows her 2015 Nonesuch debut, The Longest River, with Shelter, also set for release via Nonesuch Records. The album was produced by Thomas Bartlett (David Byrne, Nico Muhly, The Magnetic Fields, Sufjan Stevens, The National, St. Vincent, Father John Misty, et al.) and features eight original songs, along with Chaney's interpretations of Purcell's O Solitude and Frank Harford and Tex Ritter's Long Time Gone, first recorded by the Everly Brothers.
Chaney describes her time writing songs for Shelter: I had been on the road a lot and was struggling with the grit and loneliness of urban life. I think I'd been questioning what home, belonging, a sense of purpose, and my own culture even meant. I'd been craving wilderness and a return to essentials for a long time. Then, while touring in the US, I realized the place I needed was already in my life. It was ancient, barely habitable, and remote.
Thus a crumbling eighteenth-century cottage in the austere but magical hills of the North Yorkshire Moors-a family retreat since my teens, with no electricity or plumbing, where the only water comes from a spring-became the home for my work on Shelter, she continues. We brought out an Arts and Crafts Bechstein piano and an old wood burner to the house; and as summer's end turned to autumn's shorter, colder days, the room with the upright and stove fueled my stay.
Chaney says of working with Thomas Bartlett, His close affiliation with such a varied and acclaimed group of artists was of enormous importance. His taste and sphere of understanding were as diverse as mine. He prioritized my compositions' meaning and lyricism, rather than jumping on the bandwagon of noisy popularity. I wanted a recording as intimate as the songs and their form. The only other musicians are Thomas and Jordan Hunt, my longtime collaborator who adds strings on select songs. It's just the three of us playing every sound you hear, using our instrumental and compositional craft, and Thomas' musician-producer's ear extraordinaire.
Born in Florence, Italy, Chaney grew up in Oxford, England, in a household whose intellectual and artistic engagement was complemented by an expansive musical soundscape. This included Billie Holiday, Mozart operas, Sandy Denny, Prince, Tracy Chapman, Bert Jansch, Michael Jackson, and Joni Mitchell. She studied at London's Royal Academy of Music, where she took in everything the conservatory had to offer. Her curiosity led her further afield, from Ligeti to West African pop, Edith Piaf to Laurie Anderson, Mary Margaret O'Hara to Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, Sonic Youth to Sappho, Kate Bush to old-time country music-all while finding her own voice.
The range of artists she's shared a stage with includes Robert Plant, Zero 7, the Labeque Sisters, Martin and Eliza Carthy, and Kronos Quartet, with whom she also recorded two songs for the 2017 Nonesuch album Folk Songs. Most recently she fronted a Grammy-nominated album, The Queen of Hearts, forming a new outfit, Offa Rex, with The Decemberists. The Guardian's review of that album said that Chaney has a magical voice, full of heft, soul and sunlight, and fRoots said, Chaney has never sounded better, while the Arts Desk said it was her voice, with its clarity, power and emotional weight, that carries Offa Rex to the heights. The Financial Times added that Chaney's singing makes 'Willie O' Winsbury' one of the best versions ever.

Winners Never Quit (Pre-Order)Release Date: June 22, 2018*
"Winners Never Quit (2000) is an odd fable of a corrupt, self-righteous politician and his sweeter but equally wayward brother. The opening song, Slow and Steady Wins the Race, lends this whole affair more weight than it really deserves, and it is easily the best song on the album. Bazan works up a primitive blast of rock & roll on a couple of the songs, which gives Pedro more musical variety; otherwise, Bazan keeps it to the spare amateur vision he employed so well on It's Hard to Find a Friend; not always for the best. An interesting album, spooky in spots, but other than the terrific Slow and Steady, this one's a curiosity.
- David Dwyer, Allmusic.com
Under the moniker of Pedro the Lion, Bazan creates melodic pop
in the vein of Bedhead, Hayden, and Sebadoh, with a lyrical focus
on relationships -- with both other people and God. In early 2006,
Bazan retired the Pedro moniker to continue on with solo work under
his own name.
In December of 2017, Bazan announced that Pedro The Lion be reunited
to make a new album and tour the world in 2018.

The Remixes (Pre-Order)Release Date: June 15, 2018*
Sometimes the best remixes come direct from the artist
themselves. Following the success of their debut EP, CCFX return
to reimagine and reiterate all four tracks. At times turbulent,
at others serene, and throughout unabashedly raffsh, these
instrumental versions take the liberty of exploding the originals
and thrusting the fragments into deeper and more ornate sonic
territory. Minimal beats as well as pumped up breaks take the
forefront here, rendering nascent atmospheric jungle & dubbed
out balearic new wave.
Though it was released last October, the original EP is still
making waves, having been hyped by the likes of NPR, Pitchfork,
and NME. With this new record, the band demonstrate their
versatility in addition to their songwriting talent - always willing
to take risks, The Remixes is a masterful selector's spin on their
late 90s/early 00s indie pop-oriented sounds. And the band isn't
slowing down, as this release comes on the heels of the band's
debut live performance on KEXP, and ahead of their appearance
at Sasquatch Music Festival in Washington state. Stay tuned for

My Midnight Things (Pre-Order)Release Date: June 29, 2018*
Since 1983, the name Lizzy Borden has been synonymous with heavy metal music of the highest caliber. With My Midnight Things he has reaffirmed this standing, delivering the biggest, most dramatic, moving and cinematic record of his career, and one of the most essential additions to the genre in 2018. While showcasing a diverse range of sounds, tones and moods, it is unmistakably the work of the man who released a string of classic albums in the 1980s and two more in the 00s, but with a new fire burning at the heart of the record, it is one that he has lovingly crafted for those who scream along with every word at his shows. "On our last tour across Europe, Asia and South America, I noticed that the audience had changed," he states. "It got a lot younger. I looked out to see all these kids in every country singing at the top of their lungs to songs that were written before they were born, and that made me want to start writing some full-blown albums just for them. I wanted to make songs that would be theirs, albums that they could be a part of."
Having not dropped a record since 2007's mighty Appointment With Death, fans have understandably champed at the bit waiting for new material. Though penning numerous songs throughout that period, when it became time to seriously focus upon writing an album, the multi-instrumentalist did what needed to be done to be sure of creating the best possible music. "I knew the only way I could find what I was looking for was to lock myself away and experiment, so that's what I did. I wrote and recorded in my studio in North Hollywood in a very industrial area all night every night, with only sirens from fire trucks and these songs to keep me company. It was a lonely time, but very fruitful. You might even hear some of those sirens in some of the songs if you listen closely." Starting with between forty and fifty songs, he steadily whittled these down to fifteen, and finally to the ten that made the record, only wanting the very best to make the cut. As with all of his albums, once Borden hones in on a core subject matter he builds the album around it, and in the case of My Midnight Things, the theme is that of love. However, adopting a different approach to writing than usual, rather than starting with music, he instead focused on the lyrics, and penned the music later to best serve the stories being told, wanting every song to stand up on its own while keeping the storyline of the record moving forward. "I just let the lyrics drive the mood and the way I would sing each song, but overall I kept it varied and engaging enough so that listeners will want to devour the whole album in one sitting, without you hearing me repeat myself."
The diversity of the record makes it abundantly clear that he succeeded, and it makes for a thrilling ride from start to finish. Opening with the titanic stomp of the title track, the cinematic feel kicks off from the start, a serpentine seductiveness coiling through it, and the likes of "A Stranger To Love" and the bruising "Our Love Is God" inhabit similarly dark territory. The more stripped down, haunting strains of the reprise of the title track - which was in fact the first version penned - is achingly frail, and then counterpointing all of the record's darker and more brooding moments are the upbeat "Long May They Haunt Us", the hugely anthemic and uplifting closer "We Belong In The Shadows", and the frankly glorious "Run Away With Me". While the title of the album "means many different things" to Borden, he chooses not to disclose these, allowing listeners to find their own meaning in it, which is something important to him. In terms of the record's central theme, he acknowledges that while "love" seems somewhat obvious, he tried to find a way to see it through a different lens. "Sometimes being in love is the worst thing that can happen to you if you're with the wrong person and you can't stop it, and sometimes it's the best thing in the world. I knew I could find things in between every other song that's been written about it. So that was the challenge. But, even though I write with a theme in mind and with different personalities singing each song, I never write in storyboard form. I always try to write in poetry form. I think you can search for more meaning that way, from one line to the next there can be multiple meanings, as opposed to being trapped telling a story."
Having signed a new contract with Metal Blade on the strength of three demo tracks, Borden opted to produce My Midnight Things himself, with Joey Scott as co-producer, who also handled all the drumming duties. Having an old school approach to his drumming, feeding off the vocals, lyrics and melody rather than just acting as a time keeper, he was perfectly suited to Borden's approach to the record, which also applied to his role as co-producer. "I knew what I was going for and had doubts that I could find a producer who would understand that. My approach is very different than what is happening in today's music, but Joey got that and wanted the same thing." With Marliese Quance Mildenberger handling the majority of the keyboards, her unique melancholy playing style added even more "emotion and dimension" to each song, while Borden himself handled all of the bass, guitars, some keys and all of the vocal parts. Anyone exposed to My Midnight Things will find it hard to deny that like all of his records, it is a true vocal tour de force, each track endowed with a phenomenal amount of layering to create something that is uniquely Lizzy Borden. "The style that I record vocals harkens back to The Beatles and Queen. It's time consuming and tedious, but the result gives you a more multi-dimensional feel than you would get with a single vocal. When I recorded 'Master Of Disguise' (1989), I was clocked in at a seven-octave vocal range between all the backing and lead vocals. It gave the feel of multiple personalities within my voice, and I've used that technique on the last four albums."
That every song on the record could be released as a single is testament to just how strong this collection is. While truly a record for his fans, its appeal will easily reach much further, and Borden is as eager to get back on stage as his devout followers who cannot wait to see him back up there. "I've already started working on the 'My Midnight Things' Show, and I really can't wait to play these songs live. There are so many talented players out there in the world, I know I will find the right guys or girls to be on stage with me in my touring band, and just based on what is being talked about, so far it will be the best show I've ever done. I really do feel a new excitement that I have not felt in years. The best is yet to come."

Rayland Baxter's new album is a dream realized. Since he first started writing music, this roving rock 'n' roll philosopher dreamed of a space where he could devote every waking hour to creating. The hard-touring musician finally found it in the form of an abandoned rubber band factory in Franklin, KY, where he covered the windows, threw a mattress on the floor, and with guitar and piano in tow, spent three straight months writing. At night he would sit and listen the sounds around him: coyotes, the howling wind, the faint prattle of the nightly TV news. The result of this isolation quest is 'Wide Awake' a ten-song collection that celebrates the best aspects of humanity and grasps at understanding the worst.
'Wide Awake' was produced by Butch Walker and features Walker himself on bass, Cage the Elephant's Nick Bockrath on guitar, Dr. Dog's Erick Slick on drums, and piano wizard Aaron Embry (Elliott Smith, Brian Eno) on keys.

The Mountain (Pre-Order)Release Date: June 8, 2018*
Dierks Bentley will release his highly anticipated ninth studio album, THE MOUNTAIN via Capitol Records Nashville. Reaching a new creative high, Bentley co-wrote 10 of the 13 new tracks that are unified by themes of presence and positivity, and range in style from textured rock to acoustic folk, feeling both rooted and expansive at the same time.
THE MOUNTAIN's story begins in the Rocky Mountain resort town of Telluride, Colorado, which every summer plays host to a celebrated bluegrass festival. Owing to his well-documented love of the genre, Bentley has attended the festival multiple times over the years, always making a point to slow down and tune back into the world around him. But after performing on the festival's main stage in 2017, the idyllic surroundings became more than a much-needed getaway.
"I found myself there, constantly reaching for my guitar," Bentley said. "It was like a gravitational pull. That town and those people just make you want to be creative, I couldn't describe it. I was like 'How do I tell everyone in Nashville this is what I want to write about?' I realized I couldn't bring it back, so I had to take everyone out there."
Returning that August with six of his most trusted songwriting collaborators, Bentley and his fellow 'Telluwriters' all bunked up in a small house, explored the area and dug deep into the peaceful, reflective vibes he was feeling. They had five days to work with and were hoping to write eight songs but ended up with nearly twice that number, forming the core of the record. Bentley returned to Telluride with his production team Ross Copperman, Jon Randall Stewart and Arturo Buenahora Jr to a tucked-away hideout called Studio in the Clouds last November to record. Perched high on a mesa, its tracking room overlooking the endless Rocky Mountain landscape, THE MOUNTAIN rose up in earnest.
"For me it's the best of both worlds, and it feels like something new. It's powerful but also happy, with acoustic sensibility mixed in with the big sounds I like to have for the road," Bentley added. "They are the songs I'd play for somebody to say, 'This is who I am right now.'"

Elvis Is Back! is the tenth studio album by American singer and musician Elvis Presley. It was originally released on RCA Victor Records in April 1960. Recorded over two sessions in March and April, the album marked Presley's return to recording after his discharge from the U.S. Army.
In 1957, as Presley's fame was soaring, he received a draft notice from the Memphis Draft Board, but was given a deferment so he could finish his latest film production, King Creole. During Presley's two-year military service in Germany, RCA Victor and Paramount Pictures progressively released material he had completed prior to enlistment. During his last months in the Army, Presley experimented with new sounds and worked on further improving his performance. He also prepared material for his first session in Nashville, which was scheduled to take place upon his return. Presley returned to the United States on March 2, 1960. The singer reunited with his original band The Blue Moon Boys, excepting bassist Bill Black. The first session was held on March 20-21 and the second session was held on April 3-4, completing the album.
Elvis Is Back! topped the UK Albums Chart and reached number two in Billboard's Top LPs. Initially, the release received mixed reviews, but over subsequent years its critical reception became progressively more positive. The album was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America in 1999.

Headphone listening has become more and more popular in recent years. To meet this new demand Manley have combined its professional and domestic engineering skills to develop a new and exciting groundbreaking product, The Manley Headphone Amplifier.
Headphone listening is not new to us, we have developed headphone mixers for the professional industry and our Neo-Classic 300B preamplifier was designed with the serious headphone listener in-mind, which now has quite a cult following. The new Manley Headphone Amplifier addresses absolutely every possible feature the headphone user could desire.
This feature rich product has no less than twelve independent controls designed for maximum performance and maximum control. We design and manufacture our own output transformers and this is where this product excels. The Manley Headphone Amplifier utilizes hand-wound air gapped dual mode output transformers. The user can configure the unit for all triode Push-Pull mode or Single-Ended mode. The transformer can be configured to drive three types of headphone loads, covering a range from 12 to 600 ohms.
The enthusiast can also vary the Feedback from 0dB to 10dB, maintaining a ruler-flat frequency response across the audio band, demonstrating how stable the design is. For increased transparency and accuracy we have incorporated a Precision Stepped Relay Volume control with perfect channel balance. A balance control is also available for extra sensitivity. The Manley Headphone Amplifier operates fully symmetrical, enabling it to drive balanced headphones through its XLR output. Also available is the standard non-balanced "Jack" plug or TRS connection. Another very useful feature is a preamplifier output, which routes your first input through the system when not in use, no need for unplugging sources! The Manley Headphone amplifier can also be used as a stand-alone transformer coupled preamplifier, so it can be partnered with any power amplifier if so desired.
With the advent of expensive and high technology headphones it was important for the Manley design team to think about protection. So the Manley Headphone Amplifier features a user defined headphone overload protection system. The user dials this in so precious headphones are never overdriven. For maximum performance and the lowest noise floor, The Manley Headphone Amplifier incorporates a very high-tech switching audiophile power supply. The high-tension and low-tension rails are all fully regulated offering super low impedance for a fast and dynamic response.
The Manley Headphone Amplifier also incorporates a tone control circuit what? for an audiophile product!! Yes! With the expertise gleaned from building professional studio equipment, we have incorporated the best possible solution for a tone control. It is completely switchable, so for the real purist it is completely out of the circuit, but if you need that slight adjustment for a hard digital recording the feature is there.
The Manley Headphone Amplifier is a very unusual design. Zia Faruqi, who is responsible for running the engineering team and industrial design at Manley Laboratories, developed its concept. "I wanted a design that would reflect the use of this piece of equipment. Its shape was inspired by a head, a piece that you could rest your headphones on, a piece that you want to indulge yourself in" Mitch Margolis who worked on the Steelhead and our 300B amplifiers worked with our head engineer Humberto Rodriguez to finalize its design. For The Cause (Pre-Order)Release Date: June 15, 2018*
Pressed on Clear Vinyl
Maintaining urgency, authenticity and integrity has never been an issue for New York City's hardest, and hardest working band, MADBALL. Twenty-five years along as a recording and touring entity, MB brings forth its ninth aural chapter, »For The Cause«; a signature collection of lionhearted, groove-laden, street-level New York Hardcore as only MADBALL can bring it.
The aptly titled album doesn't so much revisit where the group has been since 1994 - although MADBALL released its first EP, »Ball Of Destruction« as a virtual AGNOSTIC FRONT side-project back in 1989 - but forges forward and represents where the fellas find themselves collectively and personally a quarter-decade down the road.
Throughout the band's storied history, MADBALL has asserted its mission; carrying forth a simple yet righteous cause, and this time around, they've chosen to define that cause more succinctly than ever before. Tornadic vocalist/front man Freddy Cricien explains, "If you're not fighting for a cause, you're not participating in life. Simple as that. Speak up, fight, educate yourself, make a difference and make sacrifices for what's important to you." Words to live by.
»For The Cause« sees the return to the fold of guitarist Matt Henderson, who hasn't appeared on a MADBALL album since 2000's »Hold It Down«, for which Henderson also served as producer. "To have him record with us again was really special," offers Freddy. He adds, "Matt's been playing 'commemorative' shows and tours with us on-and-off over the years, so, obviously, the love and friendship is there. He'll always be an honorary member A MADBALL lifer."
Unique to this album is the stellar production work by RANCID's Tim Armstrong, who clearly helped express MADBALL's distinctive voice powerfully and dynamically without stepping on the trademark formula the band has forever carried, yet constantly seeks to improve upon. "It's a tricky thing, producing. You can truly enhance something, but you could also ruin a record if a band lets you," says Cricien. Freddy continues, "Tim has always respected our band and how we do what we do. He knew we had a vision for how this album should sound, so he let us do our thing, but was there every step supporting and cheering us on. Whenever he did chime in, it was well thought out and he made strong suggestions. He even helped write the hook on 'For You.' He was there for us in a non-meddlesome role, which for this particular record, was the best-case scenario." Danish studio veteran Tue Madsen (MESHUGGAH, DARK TRANQUILLITY, SICK OF IT ALL) skillfully handled mixing duties on »For The Cause«.
Also, noteworthy on »For The Cause« are the various cameo appearances by some of MADBALL's friends, as well as several artists with whom the group shares a mutual respect; namely PSYCHO REALM's Sick Jacken on the track 'Rev Up,' THE BUSINESS' Steve Whale and producer Armstrong on 'The Fog,' plus legendary emcee Ice-T on the hardcore banger 'Evil Ways.' Freddy discloses, "Jacken is our homie. He just came through to say what's up and check out the spot and I happened to be recording 'Rev Up.' He was really digging the song and just freestyled. It really drove the message of the song home. As for Ice-T, he added a good flavor to 'Evil Ways.' It was a real honor to work with someone I've been following and have respected since I was a kid. He genuinely supports our band and the scene we come from. Tim and Steve jumping on 'The Fog' happened organically like everything else with this record." The UK Oi! legend provided the spoken intro and a guitar lead to the street punk-tinged anthem.
What's maybe most notable on »For The Cause« is its various twists and turns both musically and vocally to keep MADBALL's brand of NYHC fresher than it has ever been. Freddy presents, "How do you grow as a band or as a person if you don't take chances? We feel obligated to ourselves and everyone else to evolve, at least somewhat. We took more 'chances' on this record than on any previous one, and we're happy about that! We're proud that it's still very much us; it's real and honest. There is plenty on there to satisfy the people that support us from every era of this band."
As for MADBALL's astounding longevity in the hardcore game: "We don't know how to do anything else at this point. We raise our families to the best of our ability; we do MADBALL to the best of our ability So far so good, and we don't feel that we've reached our full potential in either of those areas just yet."

Still Run (Pre-Order)Release Date: July 13, 2018*
Still Run is the new album from Brooklyn, NY based alternative band Wet, and is the follow up to the band's critically acclaimed debut album Don't You from 2016. Still Run shows Wet with a more upbeat and pop-driven sound than their debut. The band's new sound and outlook is informed by lead singer and songwriter Kelly Zutrau taking more creative control of the project. Much of Wet's shift stems from Zutrau's more forceful vocals, which allow her direct yet poetic lyrics to resonate more deeply - leaping out of the sunnier production.
Producers like Rostam (Haim, Solange), Andrew Sarlo (Big Thief), and John Hill (Santigold, M.I.A.) assisted primary producer and Wet band member Joe Valle, who brings a new comfort level to his production style, presenting dark lyrics in a brighter way that highlights their innate intensity and lets Zutrau's songwriting shine. There are a million ways to make a good song sound good, she says. But what matters to me most in the end are the vocal, and the songwriting, and whatever serves those best.
Wet is recognized for their deeply-hued emotional pop, well documented by the New York Times, Spin, and NPR among many others. Rolling Stone noted that Wet set themselves apart with music that combines the elegant ache of Nineties R&B with the raw honesty of indie pop.... Still Run is a testament to taking that control and pursuing one's artistic vision and it also shows how any hiccups that might crop up along the way can make the vision's eventual realization more satisfying.

Mastered from the Original Master Tapes for Supreme Sonics: Mobile Fidelity's 180g Vinyl LP Presents the Record's Famed Dynamics, Colors, Tones, and Instrumentation in Full-Range Glory
Supertramp's Breakfast in America has it all: Illustrious artwork. Sing-a-long hooks. Contagious melodies. Symphonic bluster. Rhapsodic thrust. Signature Wurlitzer electric piano sounds. Two Grammy Awards, including one for Best Engineered Album. More than 20 million copies sold. Four Billboard hit singles that continue to dominate radio airplay today. Every aspect of the chart-topping art-rock set screams blockbuster, not the least of which is the production, the result of painstaking studio setups and months of mixing. Now, you can experience the sonic brilliance in unprecedented clarity on Mobile Fidelity's definitive analog reissue.
Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed at RTI, this numbered, limited-edition 180g LP wrings out the record's dynamics, colors, and tones in all their full-range glory. Absent artificial ceilings, Breakfast in America unfolds with an expansiveness and radiance that parallels the vibrancy of its iconic New York-themed cover. Crucial traits such as imaging, separation, balance, transients, and openness achieve near-epic levels of realism and presence. Songs unfold and breathe on mammoth soundstages that put the effort's legendary production - and stellar playing - into proper perspective. The 1979 set has been reissued multiple times in the past, but it's never sounded so engaging, lifelike, or entertaining. If you think you know the record backwards and forwards, wait until you hear this version.
Indeed, aside from the undeniably catchy nature of the ten tracks, fun remains the most central element of Breakfast in America. The band even titled the record to fall in line with the overall joyful feeling of the material. About the latter: Few late 1970s rock albums feature a more cohesive, harmony-drenched parade of stunningly executed, wondrously arranged works. The collective offspring of members Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson, each tune reflects the creative pulses of each musician, with the resultant contrasts lending to their appeal. Davies' penchant for grittier, bluesy strands blends with Hodgson's witty, pop-leaning techniques. The combination proves unstoppable.
Home to a quartet of commercial staples - The Logical Song, Goodbye Stranger, Take the Long Way Home, and the title track - Breakfast in America teems with arena-sized drama, meticulous craftsmanship, and mesmerizing refrains. Shrewd lyrical turns abound, whether on the phonetic, adjective-stacked The Logical Song, life-in-America portrait Child of Vision, or move-to-L.A. saga Gone Hollywood. U.S. references also dot the smash title track, which reflects the glib humor, romantic fantasies, and pop culture permeating the record.
Breakfast in America also retains its vitality because of its expert instrumentation and placement. Deemed a a textbook-perfect album of post-Beatles, keyboard-centered English art rock that strikes the shrewdest possible balance between quasi-symphonic classicism and rock & roll by Rolling Stone shortly after its release, the record serves as a blueprint of reference-setting production and mixing. Check the scorching guitar outro on Goodbye Stranger, gospel accents on Lord Is It Mine, saxophone lines on Take the Long Way Home, or chemistry of the choruses on basically every piece here. It's enough to make one long for the 70s again.

Prokofiev For Two (Pre-Order)Release Date: June 29, 2018*
Pianists Martha Argerich and Sergei Babayan have recorded two selections from Prokofiev's music for stage and screen in magnificent two-piano transcriptions by Babayan. Prokofiev for Two, set for release worldwide via Deutsche Grammophon, captures for posterity the sense of mutual inspiration felt by these kindred spirits, palpable in their live performances together. The album features Babayan's twelve-movement transcription of numbers from the ballet Romeo and Juliet and his seven-movement suite transcribed from Prokofiev's incidental music for Hamlet and Eugene Onegin, film score for The Queen of Spades and opera War and Peace.
Martha Argerich and Sergei Babayan first met in Brussels in 1991 when, on a whim, he looked her up in the phonebook and, to his own surprise, found her name and telephone number listed. His call from a phone box in the city started a strong friendship that led to numerous joint appearances in Europe and America. After one performance of Rachmaninov's "Suite No.2" and other works for two pianos, Babayan told Argerich of his dream to transcribe pieces from Romeo and Juliet for their next duo date. "She was very inspired by the idea," he recalls. "It was the greatest pleasure - and an honor - to create something that we would play together." Babayan's take on Prokofiev, coupled with a suite of rarities from the composer's stage and film music, can be heard in Prokofiev for Two.
The freshly transcribed Prokofiev score received its premiere performance as part of the Martha Argerich Project at the 2013 Lugano Festival. Argerich and Babayan have since performed this work together with the revised Romeo and Juliet suite several times, most recently in concert at Stuttgart's Liederhalle last November.
Martha Argerich is already renowned for her interpretations of Prokofiev's music. The Argentine-born artist, hailed as one of the greatest pianists of all time, included the composer's turbulent "Toccata" in her Deutsche Grammophon recital debut album, recorded in 1960. She reinforced her international reputation seven years later with a landmark recording for the yellow label of Prokofiev's "Third Piano Concerto" with the Berliner Philharmoniker and Claudio Abbado. "I have loved Prokofiev ever since I can recall," notes Argerich. "And people think he loves me too sometimes! I love the way Sergei [Babayan] plays Prokofiev and many other things. The first solo recital of his I heard was Bach's Goldberg Variations and I was incredibly impressed by it. I very much liked his proposal that we should play his transcription of Romeo and Juliet and feel very honored that he dedicated it to me."
Babayan's love for Prokofiev, like Argerich's, is deeply rooted, dating back to his childhood in Armenia and student days at the Moscow Conservatoire. Having left the USSR for the first time in 1989, he settled in the U.S. Time and again, Babayan has paid tribute to Prokofiev, playing several of his piano concertos with Valery Gergiev including at the 2015 BBC Proms in a monumental concert with the London Symphony Orchestra featuring all five of the works.
His new Prokofiev transcriptions are both dedicated to Martha Argerich. "This project happened because of my love for Prokofiev, my love for Martha and my love for the ballet Romeo and Juliet," reflects Babayan. The idea of transcribing Romeo and Juliet first arose decades ago while he was studying Prokofiev's colorful instrumentation in close detail with an orchestra. Already aware of Argerich's playing, he was further inspired after hearing a pirate recording of her 1981 Carnegie Hall performance of the "Ten Pieces Op.75" from Romeo and Juliet. "I listened and was immediately drawn to learn the cycle. But I felt that Prokofiev used chamber-like numbers for his selection of music for his transcription for solo piano. If you first became acquainted with the ballet through this piano score, you would never guess or understand the whole tragic, violent, and dark nature of the original work. Of course, the ballet contains lyrical, romantic music; music filled with humor and dance movement. But it also contains music for the "Death of Tybalt" - music of love and hate."
Believing it would be impossible for music of such powerful emotion to be conveyed by two hands, and aware of Prokofiev's own fondness for transcription, Babayan felt driven to exploit the full expressive force and tonal richness of two pianos. His created version contains what Martha Argerich, with a wry laugh, calls "difficult and demanding" technical and musical challenges. Both musicians, however, agree that transcription is "an act of love" and Babayan's experience with Romeo and Juliet soon led him to explore some of the composer's lesser-known works and create the second suite on this album. As he points out, this music will be new to most listeners. For example, only fragments of the film score for The Queen of Spades have ever been performed or recorded. He underlines its imaginative and innovative qualities, adding, "I'm sure if Prokofiev had lived longer he would have used the material for The Queen of Spades for a new movie, symphony, quartet or maybe even a piano duo. This music stayed on the shelf and it was my luck to hear it."
Prokofiev for Two is driven by the passion and power of an ideal keyboard partnership. Martha Argerich considers playing in duo with Babayan to be "a thing of alchemy - a discovery". For his part, Babayan says the experience of performing with Argerich is like joining a conversation with a divine being, one in which "you cannot be mundane or ordinary ... Martha will somehow pull out the best from you."
