Edendale (Discontinued)BigBang, Norways Greatest Live Band, have made Los Angeles their new home and have been criss-crossing the country playing intimate gigs and generating interest including from The Raconteurs Jack White and from Rolling Stone Magazines editor David Fricke: Led by singer-guitarist Oystein Greni, BigBang lit the power-pop chime and songwriting of Big Star and late-'80s R.E.M. with the power blues dynamics of Stevie Ray Vaughans Double Trouble.
The new record has strong ties to BigBangs adopted home in California. Frontman Øystein Greni explains: The area of Los Angeles today known as Echo Park/Silverlake used to be called Edendale around the time when the silent movie industry took off. Charlie Chaplins studio, now a storage place, is on my block, and Walt Disneys first film studio was across the street from the local Trader Joes. In Europe we tend to romanticize things and people from the past; here its all about moving on to the next project. Ironically, as much as I wanted to get away from the stale museum-like atmosphere of Europe, I get here and start focusing on LAs fascinating past!
Edendale was recorded in Los Angeles at the legendary Sound City Studios (Nirvana, Fleetwood Mac, Johnny Cash, Metallica), with an impressive list of collaborators. Producers: Øystein Greni (Bigbang) and Greg Richling (Wallflowers, Black Flag), Technician/mixer: Bryan Cook (Queens of the Stone Age, Raconteurs, The Bird and The Bee), Mastered by: Gavin Lurssen (Robert Plant/Alison Krauss, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello)1. 1968 was an interesting year for The Monkees. Aside from releasing more hit singles & another smash Lp with The Birds The Bees & The Monkees, future superstar and upcoming filmmaker Jack Nicholson, Bob Rafelson & The Monkees were developing the concept for a psychedelic film about this successful rock band who were trying to escape from their manufactured image. Albeit an underlying glimpse of reality, the movie wound up being a swan song for the original line-up of the band until 1996's Justus. As the Head movie was underrated at the time, it has since gone on to become ranked as one of the finest films in the rock genre.
The original soundtrack of Head by The Monkees has a history itself as being one of their strongest albums with stellar material ranging from The Monkees' Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork, plus more great tracks from Harry Nilsson and Carole King with musical help from friends like Carole King, Stephen Stills and Dewey Martin from Buffalo Springfield.
A hit single emerged with Porpoise Song featuring the powerful lead vocal of Micky Dolenz, as the rest of the album is interwoven with keen Monkees dialog and skits that were in the original film, plus the stellar score by Ken Thorne.
In honor of The Monkees, Friday Music is once again pleased to continue the celebration of the Monkees Golden Anniversary with The Monkees Head Alternate. This first-time vinyl album features first-time vinyl versions of Porpoise Song, rarities like Can You Dig It with Peter Tork's vocal, Daddy's Song remixed with the long sought after Davy Jones' slow verse, and the rare stereo mix of Circle Sky.
Produced by The Monkees in 1968, this stunning new version is now impeccably mastered by Monkees fan and friend Joe Reagoso and pressed on 180 Gram Audiophile Translucent Gold Vinyl.
For the very limited Golden Anniversary edition, the LP cover will be manufactured with a stunning gold foil front and back, featuring a rare alternate color photo of the band on the back cover.

70's Rock Must DieRemember the 70's? C'mon, of course you do. The Bee Gees, John Travolta, and Ford Pintos exploding on rear impact? Well, LARD hasn't forgotten. And they are dying to share those memories on the title track of their new EP, 70's Rock Must Die. 70's Rock Must Die is an epic screaming for a music video. It's a trip down Melrose with long hair and leather- Jello, Al, and Paul flipping the bird as they drive. And, yes, that actually IS Jello singing.
As you know, we're so into this little ditty at ATR that we have purchased a 1979 FORD Pinto that will be auctioned off on eBay the day of release - February 7th, 2000. If you like this, there is plenty of merchandise to go along with it: iron-on t-shirt transfers, buttons, posters, y ou name it
As you may have surmised, the track 70's Rock Must Die is a bit of a musical departure for LARD. But don't fret, the rest of the EP harkens back to the LARD that we all know and love. Here are 2 new gems boasting crushing guitars, freakish noises and Jello's wailing vocals - the pulverizing sounds that have come to characterize LARD.
This is the first LARD release in over 2 1/2 years. In fact, these tracks didn't make it onto their last album, and we couldn't keep them on the shelves waiting for the next.1. 70's Rock Must Die

EarthNeil Young will release a new album, entitled EARTH, on via Reprise Records. The album features performances of songs from a range of Young's albums, including last year's The Monsanto Years, 1990's Ragged Glory, and 1970's After the Gold Rush.
The audio was captured during Young's 2015 tour with The Promise of the Real, fronted by Lukas Nelson (vocals/guitar) and Micah Nelson (guitar, vocals) - Willie Nelson's sons. The tour included Young performing solo and with the band for a full electric show.
A new take on some of Young's most beloved songs, EARTH features the live recordings, along with a dded musical overdubs, as well as sounds of the earth, such as city sounds like car horns, sounds of insects, and animal sounds from bears, birds, crickets, bees, horses, cows - creating a very strange, yet beautiful atmosphere.
Ninety-eight uninterrupted minutes long, EARTH flows as a collection of 13 songs from throughout my life, songs I have written about living here on our planet together, says Young. Our animal kingdom is well represented in the audience as well, and the animals, insects, birds, and mammals actually take over the performances of the songs at times.LP 1
