A Tribute To Michael BeenFeat. Robert Levon Been Of B.R.M.C.
Robert Levon Been of Black Rebel Motor Cycle Club pays tribute to his late father's music with an unforgettable live performance leading his father's
legendary band The Call. Starting with their self-titled 1982 debut, The Call gained acclaim from countless critics and had their music hailed as "uncompromising," "urgent,"
"bristling," and even "apocalyptic." Those in the know- from Spin to New Musical Express-have extolled The Call for the depth of their material and the
passion with which it's performed. "If there is any justice," wrote the Philadelphia Daily News in the band's earliest days, "The Call will soon be heard and
celebrated 'round the world as the best new rock band of the '80s."
Over the next eight years, The Call would release seven heavily praised albums and earn considerable airplay with iconic hits songs like "Let The Day
Begin" and "I Still Believe (Great Design)." After a seven-year break, the band reformed in 1997 to record To Heaven & Back which had a limited release.
The Call then disbanded, paving the way for Been to begin serving as sound engineer for his son Robert Levon Been's band Black Rebel Motorcycle
Club. But while working with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club at the 2010 Pukkelpop festival in Belgium, Been suffered a heart attack and passed away
Now The Call have captured an incredible live performance, for the first time in over 20 years, with Robert taking over his father's role. He joins drummer
Scott Musick, guitarist Tom Ferrier, and keyboardist Jim Goodwin at The Troubadour in Los Angeles for this historic and electrifying event. In addition to
delivering passionate lead vocals, Robert played his father's signature fretless bass guitar (which had been stolen but returned in time for the event). The
musical connection that was created is seamless, and all the crowd's expectations were exceeded. For Robert-who grew up going out on the road with The Call anytime he had a break from school-the performance offered the chance to honor his musical legacy and perform nearly a dozen and a half songs from the band's esteemed catalog. And for the original members, the show allowed the opportunity to move forward with the band while preserving the solidarity that Been very much treasured as the founder of The Call.
"That's something I've wanted since I was 16 years old, when I heard The Band for the first time," Been once said of the band's uncommon cohesiveness. "When that happens-that chemistry between people-it's incredibly satisfying To know that we've done this together is what makes it all worthwhile."1. Everywhere I Go

The Call Of The CosmosLavishing in pop structures but drawing in myriad influences to the wondrous black hole, The Call Of The Cosmos features some shimmering spaciousness but also sleazy exotica-themes, not unlike a Lee Hazelwood production infected with Joe Meek s ghost. Call the Doctor"Sleater-Kinney is America's best rock band" - Greil Marcus, Time (2001)
Sleater-Kinney is an acclaimed, American rock band that formed in
Olympia, Washington in 1994. The band's core lineup consists of Corin
Tucker (vocals and guitar), Carrie Brownstein (guitar and vocals), and
Janet Weiss (drums). Sleater-Kinney were known for their feminist,
left-leaning politics, and were an integral part of the riot grrrl and indie
rock scenes in the Pacific Northwest.
Call the Doctor is Sleater-Kinney's second studio album. It was produced
by John Goodmanson and released on March 25, 1996 by Chainsaw
Records. The album is often considered to be Sleater-Kinney's first
proper album because Tucker and co-vocalist and guitarist Carrie
Brownstein left their previous bands, Heavens to Betsy and Excuse 17,
at the time of its recording. The line-up featured Corin Tucker (vocals,
guitar), Carrie Brownstein (guitar, vocals) and Lora Macfarlane (drums,
Call the Doctor appeared at number three in The Village Voice's "Pazz
& Jop" critics' poll for 1996. In 2010, the album was ranked number
49 in the list of the 100 greatest albums of the nineties by the editors
of Rolling Stone.

Curtain Call: The HitsEminem's four studio albums shattered so many sales records that you might think just about every man, woman and gerbil on the planet already owns a bulk of the songs that make up this greatest hits collection. But Curtain Call presents the perfect opportunity to have another look at the life of Marshall Mathers. Starting out in the vein of the Beastie Boys and Slick Rick, he grafted filthy verses over bubbly nursery rhyme melodies and primitive Casio beats to come up with comical singles like 'My Name Is' and 'Real Slim Shady.' Then angst and reflection set in, resulting in rare moments of vulnerability ('Lose Yourself') and a richer musical experience ('Stan'). The three new tracks reflect the entire spectrum, with 'When I'm Gone,' a bittersweet goodbye letter, signaling the raw emotion and youthful enthusiasm of his early days have substantially faded, while 'Fack' counters that the Detroit rapper still has the dirtiest mouth in the business.1. This November 1956 date marked the first recording of the deeply moving ballad "Soultrane," as well as the first exposition of the lovely line "On a Misty
Night" (based on "September in the Rain"), a number Dameron would later explore himself in other contexts.
This is not a typical Tadd Dameron date in that his music is not played by a large ensemble or even a quintet. He is represented as a composer but not as
an arranger; yet, his pungent themes come through strongly, carried by the searing, probing tenor saxophone of John Coltrane.

Call By NightWymond Miles was raised in the working-class small towns of the American
West. On Call by Night, the singer's latest widescreen opus, Miles masterfully
evokes that lost landscape, all while grappling with issues of fatherhood, privacy,
PTSD, violence, and dissipated romance. The album adds a critical new chapter
to the Fresh & Onlys guitarist's story as an artist, and reasserts him as a major
voice in contemporary songwriting.
Call by Night sees Miles building a noticeably bigger sound than on his previous
solo records, while simultaneously standing as his most intimate work. It's a
record explicitly written for the fidelity of the vinyl format, with louder songs
beginning each album side and quieter songs at the interior. His attention to
sequencing paid off; the album flows like a piece of classic cinema, and sounds
like it's splashed across a drive-in screen in 70mm. Recorded using vintage gear
by Phil Manley (The Fucking Champs, Trans Am) at El Studio in San Francisco
and Miles' Garden Chamber home studio, the record is a treasure of tube-amp
warmth, and a landmark in the songwriter's catalog.
Miles wrote most of Call by Night on piano, and while the wall-of-sound guitar
and cinematic synth playing that helped define his earlier efforts is still present,
the beating heart of the songs is left more open thanks to his new method. Where
previous full-lengths were cloaked in distinct aesthetic choices, this record exists
outside of any stylistic restraints. "Divided in Two," the lead single, considers
dignity, class, honor, and father-son relationships through the devastating lens of
PTSD, all set to a sardonic flag-waving waltz, with martial percussive bomb blasts.
The title track explores the enduring aesthetic of British psych-folk. Other songs
dip into the traditions of gospel music, sea shanties, and even big-box power
ballads, using antique instruments and Miles' unique perspective on the modern
world to forge a new collection of entries for the American songbook.
Miles has said the songs on Call by Night mark his "more definitive commitment
to seek, listen, and give voice to an enduring muse." If that's true, then the muse
has obviously been singing to him loud and clear.1. Summer Rains

Call Me (Speakers Corner)
What connects celebrity chefs and pop stars is their fine nose for ingredients, especially when hot and spicy ones are mixed with milder elements to create an aromatic result. A combination of 'sweet' and 'funky' is the secret of Al Green's gloriously sentimental and sensual pop songs, which in the sexually free Seventies were often referred to as »songs to make love by«. What swings along gently is, however, Al Green's subtly controlled falsetto, which he can tone right to the threshold of audibility. But watch out! This music belts out some fiery sounds right from the very first number. The sinuous, swinging request in the brilliant hit single Call Me, the relaxed and groovy Stand Up, with its sharp wind interjections which demand one's unerring attention, are typical for Green's style, just as is his almost disturbing capability to gain comfort from loneliness (I'm So Lonesome, I Could Cry). This rhythmically powered music can best be described as light, intensive, dynamic but never flashy (Your Love Is Like The Morning Sun). It finds its earthly culmination in soul (I'm Waiting) and spiritual depth.

About Speakers Corner
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.1. Call Me (Come Back Home)

Sweet Blood CallAt the time this album was recorded, the particularly intense blues artist Louisiana Red was a protÉgÉ of the Blue Labor/Labor recording empire, which was actually two guys, Kent Cooper and jazz arranger and composer Heiner Stadler. Cooper's involvement with Red led, as in many cases of blues producers and their clients, to co-authorship on some of the songs recorded. Cooper and Stadler regarded Red as an artist cut from the same cloth as John Lee Hooker or Lightning Hopkins, and of the same quality -- meaning an intense, mood-setter of a bluesman with a sizzling improvisatory style. They were certainly accurate in their appraisal of his talent, and their interest in recording Red led to several classic blues albums. The fine studio sound they got on these solo recordings makes for a superior album, and it was the first Red would record unencumbered by a combo backing him up. Every nuance of his playing is captured, and he is definitely the type of blues player who thrives on solo work. He rarely sticks to a formula bar structure and likes to stretch out his licks as if casting out a line for fish, but he isn't a player who just stays on one chord like Hooker often did. One of Red's original blues, in which he describes how his wife died of cancer, has got to set some kind of a record for misery described in a blues song, meaning it is the saddest of the sad.

Call It What It IsBen Harper & The Innocent Criminals have reunited for Call It What It Is, their first record together in nine years.
Call It What It Is is an incisive, bold, poetic statement that could only come from these long-time musical partners, one of popular music's most essential, cohesive and dynamic ensembles. The standout title track showcases Harper's unmatched ability to blend the personal and political. Invoking the names of Trayvon Martin, Ezell Ford, and Michael Brown over an agitated blues riff, Harper cuts to the quick: "There's good cops / bad cops / white cops / black cops / call it what it is / Murder." The genre-spanning collection contains many highlights including the sun-kissed groove of Shine and the album's swaggering lead track When Sex Was Dirty.
It had been seven years since Ben Harper last played a show with the Innocent Criminals, so when the time came to reunite for a live tour in 2015, the band-percussionist Leon Mobley, bassist Juan Nelson, drummer Oliver Charles, keyboardist Jason Yates, and guitarist Michael Ward-quickly discovered that Harper had more in mind than simply revisiting the group's prodigious song catalogue. In fact, Harper had been quietly amassing material for a new record and the first recording sessions were scheduled to begin even before the rehearsals for their triumphant four-night sold-out reunion run at the Fillmore in San Francisco last March.
"I thought we would be more energized and revitalized by thinking outside the box and starting with new material in the studio before we dug into the old stuff," said Harper of the reunion album. "It was meant to be a signpost that we're here to forge new ground musically and personally."1. When Sex Was Dirty

As I Call You DownWhat started off as a casual friendship established while skating the streets of Santa Monica, CA quickly transcended into Ben Harper, Dhani Harrison and Joseph Arthurs newest musical venture, Fistful Of Mercy. The trio formed in early 2010 and wasted little time before laying down tracks for what would become the bands debut full-length entitled, As I Call You Down.
With a musical career spanning over nearly two decades and having ten albums and two Grammy awards under his belt, Ben Harper (later known as Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals) is no stranger to the music world. Having met FOM band-mate Dhani Harrison while skating, the two were unaware of each others background in the industry for months. Once realized, collaborating seemed to make perfect sense and thus Fistful Of Mercy was formed instantly.
Written, produced and recorded in Harpers studio, As I Call You Down is comprised of nine songs complete with soulful harmonies and blues-infused folk guitar seamlessly blended with an indie rock backbone. As I Call You Down effortlessly crosses through genre defining borders and is sure to please fans of both Ben Harper and Dhani Harrisons previous work, while welcoming new listeners with open arms.1. Score Of Multiple Award Winning Spin-Off Of Breaking Bad
Score By Dave Porter
Better Call Saul is a television crime drama series created by Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould. It is a spin-off prequel of Gilligan's prior series Breaking Bad. Set in 2002, Better Call Saul follows the story of small-time lawyer Jimmy McGill, a lawyer and a former scam artist, who becomes involved with the criminal world, six years before his appearance on Breaking Bad as Saul Goodman.
Like its predecessor, Better Call Saul has received critical acclaim. It has garnered several nominations, including fourteen Primetime Emmy Awards, seven Writers Guild of America Awards, five Critics' Choice Television Awards, a Screen Actors Guild Award and two Golden Globe Awards. The series premiere held the record for the highest-rated scripted series premiere in basic cable history at the time of its airing.
Dave Porter, the composer of the score, has also written the opening theme and complete score of Breaking Bad. For his work on Breaking Bad, Porter has won an ASCAP Award. The Better Call Saul score features songs from the first and second series.
Strictly limited, the first 1,000 numbered copies of the Better Call Saul score are pressed on red vinyl. The package contains 2 printed inner sleeves with images of Jimmy, Nacho, and Mike. It also contains an exclusive 4-page booklet with additional pictures and liner notes. The etch on the D-side is a certified replica of Jimmy McGill's law degree he received from the University of American Samoa.LP 1

Calling OutIt wouldn't be entirely accurate to say that EZTV met while trying out for J. Spaceman's
latest US touring line-up of Spiritualized, but it's not far from the truth.
Songwriter and audio engineer Ezra Tenenbaum had been casually working
on solo home recordings on his Tascam 8-Track in the vein of Shoes, Emitt
Rhodes and Cleaners For Venus, and, in a desire to round out the songs, he
enlisted bassist Shane O'Connell and drummer Michael Stasiak (formerly of
Widowspeak). As it happened, the trio's first chance to play together was an
audition for the American touring version of Spiritualized (they didn't get the job).
But, the trio kept meeting and working, turning Ezra recording as a solo artist
into Ezra, Shane and Michael playing as a band; thus, EZTV was formed.
With a pool of over 30 demos to work with and Jarvis Taveniere of Woods
onboard to produce, the band headed to Thump Studios in Greenpoint,
Brooklyn, to record their debut LP for Captured Tracks. The result is Calling
Out, a cohesive 12-song statement in the long tradition of fully realized debuts,
stripped of artifice, but full of hooks and songwriting chops. Tracks like
first single "The Light," premiering today via The FADER, exhibit what you would
call the EZTV mantra: presenting songs with only the required embellishments.
They've got one foot firmly planted in classic American power-pop and college
rock while the other utilizes more left-of-the-dial sonic experimentation.
The result is a sound that's both familiar and new, but always about the songs.
In an era of independent music with a lot more emphasis placed on "story" and
meaningless twitter feuds, EZTV present a record that speaks for itself. It's an
LP made for an audience that doesn't want or need any kind of angle or controversy,
but desires songs that resonate and have a lasting appeal, something
available here in spades.1. Bury Your Heart

One year after releasing Against The Grain, Gallagher hit back with Calling Card, a balanced record with his quality brand of driving blues rock, mixed with some folk and country influences. Produced by Deep Purple's Roger Glover, Calling Card showcases a very strong and diverse set of songs which wound up to become concert staples for Gallagher. Incendiary riffs, groovy organ hooks and intense vocals make Calling Card one of Gallagher's best efforts.1. Do You Read Me
