    Barton Hollow

Barton Hollow is the 2011 debut full-length from The Civil Wars, a duo comprised of California-to-Nashville transplant Joy Williams and her Alabaman partner, John Paul White. The bare-bones arrangements that fans hear on the road are fleshed out with just the barest of acoustic accoutrements herein and each song is an intimate conversation that is as gorgeous as it is haunting.

Not only does Barton Hollow combine blues, folk, Americana, country and classic singer/songwriter material, the Charlie Peacock produced release boasts brilliantly universal narratives that are both elliptical and emotional. It all culminates in the critically acclaimed breakout single Poison & Wine and the band was awarded handsomely at the 2012 Grammy's for 'Best Country Duo/Group Performance' and 'Best Folk Album.'

I do naturally bend pop, says Williams, who adds that she grew up on Billie Holliday and The Beach Boys. White, meanwhile, was raised on Kristofferson, Cash, and Townes Van Zandt by his retro-country-favoring dad. Somehow we're pulling from each other what we crave and what our strengths are, he says.

The Civil Wars' highly anticipated sophomore self-titled album is the follow up to the three-time Grammy Award-winning duo's acclaimed debut, Barton Hollow.

The Civil Wars was recorded in Nashville between August 2012 and January 2013. Charlie Peacock was once again at the helm as producer for the album. Additionally, Rick Rubin produced the duo's performance for the track I Had Me a Girl in August of 2011. Peacock later completed the track by producing the instrumentation and mix.

The album was recorded amidst a grueling touring schedule, exhausting workload and a growing disconnect from their families. Personal statements from band-members Joy Williams and John Paul White can be viewed at the band's official website.

    Shady Grove

A Natural, Acoustic Portrait of American Folk, Country, and Bluegrass Standards by Two Virtuosos: Jerry Garcia and David Grisman's Shady Grove Filled with Endearing Joy and Spirited Playing

Mastered from the Original Master Tapes and Strictly Limited to 3,000 Numbered Copies: Mobile Fidelity 180g 2LP Set Sounds Incredibly Realistic, Features Deluxe Booklet in Gatefold Jacket

Jerry Garcia began recording with longtime friend David Grisman at the beginning of the last decade of his life, the refreshing excursions marking a full-circle return to the roots fare the white-bearded virtuoso originally performed before co-founding the Grateful Dead. Garcia's dalliances with Grisman also served another equally important purpose given they provided a much-needed outlet from the demanding pressures, schedules, and business affairs associated with his main band. The endearing joy, contagious enthusiasm, and free-spirited playing on Shady Grove attest to the collection serving as not only the finest musical snapshot of Garcia's final years, but among the best of his storied career.

Mastered from the original master tapes, available on vinyl for the first time, and strictly limited to 3,000 numbered copies, Mobile Fidelity's 180g 2LP set presents the 1996 collection in exquisite sound. Originally recorded at Dawg Studios between August 1990 and June 1993, Shady Grove bowed as the first release of Grisman-Garcia collaborations in the wake of the iconic guitarist's August 1995 death - and remains, by way of its genre-specific organization, a passionate albeit naturally relaxed portrait of folk, country, and bluegrass standards that provide the foundation of American songbook. To experience it all in such brilliant fidelity is to pull up a chair at the sessions themselves and enjoy a transparent view into lasting tradition and instrumental virtuosity.

Entirely unplugged, the material emerges in three-dimensional detail on this very special audiophile pressing, the wooden tones and organic textures unfolding with wondrous openness, ease, and realism. Nothing is forced, brittle, or exaggerated. What you hear is on par with the acoustics you'd encounter at a world-class hall. Garcia and Grisman's clean, rustic picking on guitar, banjo, mandola, and mandolin harbors a rare intimacy mirrored by an equally uncommon chemistry evident by the seamless interplay.

These traits remain in tact even when the soul mates are occasionally joined by pals such as Jim Kerwin (acoustic bass) and Joe Craven (fiddle and percussion). Garcia's singing, replete with the slight, graceful, dignified shakiness that forever defined his deliveries, comes across with utmost purity and transparency. Emotions and eagerness pour over every note. At the end of several tracks, Garcia and company exchange remarks and laughter - all indicative of the camaraderie, looseness, and spirit that carries through each tune here.

Mobile Fidelity's audiophile edition of Shady Grove also features the kind of deluxe packaging only the best physical media can provide. Sixteen 12-inch x 12-inch pages bound to the gatefold jacket provide extraordinary insight into the songs, atmosphere, and history. Images of artifacts and telling photos serve as a visual guide. New Lost City Ramblers member John Cohen pens extensive liner notes that reveal the lasting importance and timelessness of the tunes herein. Among his observations:

Jerry and David's performances of these traditional folk songs and ballads reconnect us all - folk singers, Deadheads, university students, hillbillies, country and western musicians - with the America [poet Kenneth] Rexroth wrote about; that [Carl] Sandburg wrote about; that the cynicism of American wars and politics, culture wars and culture politics just couldn't destroy.

Indeed, the versions of barn-dance tunes (Shady Grove), jug-band standards (Stealin', also performed in the early days of the Grateful Dead), Delta ballads (Louis Collins), Civil War era fare (The Sweet Sunny South), and campfire songs (Down in the Valley) here astound with depth, soulfulness, and warmth. Deadheads will also find Garcia and Grisman putting a spin on two more tracks - Casey Jones and Jackaroo - long part of the iconic group's repertoire. In countless ways, Shady Grove is not to be missed, particularly on this unsurpassed pressing.

    Civil War

After a seemingly infinite absence, the Dillinger Four delivers their long-promised fourth proper full-length, Civil War. The release marks the end of an agonizing 6 year span that fans have endured since the last D4 studio album and allays the speculation and rumors that have plagued the band for years. The Dillinger Four prove that they haven't lost a step here as Civil War is littered with irresistible hooks, a raw sound and accented by dueling lead vocals peppered with sharp lyrical witicisms.

A fascinating reissue that comfortably straddles the lines of jazz, folk, and world music, working up a storm by way of a jazz protest album that points toward the Spanish Civil War in particular and the Vietnam War in passing. Medicine For Birds

Singer and songwriter Angelica Garcia's journey down the rabbit hole began when she moved to Accomac, Virginia. Graduating from Los Angeles School for the Arts, the 17-year-old native Angeleno found herself living in a 200-year-old gothic brick home encircled by magnolia trees and under a blanket of bright stars. Her stepfather traded a career in the music industry for Episcopalian priesthood, and an Eastern Shore church would serve as his (and the family's) first congregation. Isolated and alone, Angelica locked herself in the parish house and fashioned a musical world that veers between ghostly gorgeous countrified blues and sly swamp Americana. With a childlike whimsy, quirky sense of humor, and dynamic delivery, it could easily soundtrack an apparitions' ball in some Faulknerian mansion. Upon first listen, it entranced Warner Bros. Records. Recorded by Charlie Peacock [The Civil Wars, Switchfoot] in Nashville, her full-length debut Medicine For Birds unlocks this world for everyone in 2016.

    Freedom Highway

Freedom Highway, Grammy Award-winner and 2017 Grammy nominee Rhiannon Giddens' follow-up to her highly praised debut album Tomorrow Is My Turn, will be released by Nonesuch Records. The record includes nine original songs Giddens wrote or co-wrote while she and her band toured after Tomorrow Is My Turn's 2015 release, along with a traditional song and two civil rights-era songs, Birmingham Sunday and Staple Singers' well-known Freedom Highway, from which the album takes its name.

Giddens' writing for Freedom Highway is a departure from Tomorrow Is My Turn, which included one original song, with the rest being her interpretations of songs written or performed by a wide variety of female musicians. Giddens co-produced Freedom Highway with multi-instrumentalist Dirk Powell in his Breaux Bridge, Louisiana studio, with the bulk of recording done in wooden rooms built prior to the Civil War. As producers, Giddens and Powell sought to release the stories already in the walls, allowing the space to be a voice in itself. This approach allowed for an emotional fearlessness and presence not always easy to achieve in the studio. Together they assembled the players, which included her superb touring band, local musicians from the bayou, a soulful horn section from New York, and talented family members. The principle recording was done over an intense eight day period. The result is an album that is rawer and more personal than its predecessor.

The third full-length release from L.A.-based duo HONEYHONEY, 'III' is an album born from fascination with the sweet and the sleazy, the light and dark, the danger and the magic. Since Ben Jaffe and Suzanne Santo released the critically-acclaimed 'Billy Jack' in 2011, they've kept on the road, growing their fan base tenfold both at home and internationally. Working on this new album with Dave Cobb (the producer behind Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson), lead singer/banjo player/violinist Suzanne Santo and vocalist/guitarist Ben Jaffe twist their gritty, harmony-driven brand of Southern-flavored rock & roll through tales of lost souls, broken boys and girls with gold in their spit. The two songwriters also take a mirror to their own experience in lust and heartache - never shying away from revealing the messy truth. This album reflects their continued growth, and holds nothing back. It's easy to understand why HONEYHONEY's following ranges from lovers of the Black Keys and White Stripes to The Civil Wars. Whether they rattle, soothe or joyfully inspire, HONEYHONEY instill each song with a straight-from-the-gut honesty and elegance of storytelling that make 'III' both cathartic and electrifying.

    Johnny99

Although it went virtually unnoticed upon its initial release in 1983, this intriguing record momentarily put a halt to Johnny Cash's precipitous artistic decline and kept the promise of his resurgence alive. Recorded in Los Angeles with session men including Marty Stuart, Norton Buffalo, Jo-El Sonnier, and producer Brian Ahern, Johnny 99 focuses on the work of younger songwriters--Bruce Springsteen, Paul Kennerley, Guy Clark--and might be the lone oasis in an otherwise barren decade. The solemn opener, Springsteen's Highway Patrolman, sets the tone as Cash turns a very restrained reading into an emotional powerhouse, supported by Hoyt Axton's baritone growl. The Springsteen-penned title track becomes a honky-tonk anthem as Cash delivers the Boss's lyrics with acute understanding. The touching Civil War ballad God Bless Robert E. Lee, the tropical/topical Joshua Gone Barbados, and the attractive duet with June Carter on Kennerley's Brand New Dance help round out a rather diverse (for Cash) collection. Aside from the occasional guitar effect and unnecessary keyboard intrusion (it was 1983 after all), this set marks a high point of a low period.

    The River & The Thread

I went back to where I was born, and these songs started arriving in me, says Rosanne Cash. All these things happened that made me feel a deeper connection to the South than I ever had. We started finding these great stories, and the melodies that went with those experiences.

With The River and the Thread, Cash has added the next chapter to a remarkable period of creativity. Her last two albums, Black Cadillac (2006) and The List (2009), were both nominated for Grammy Awards; The List-an exploration of essential songs as selected and given to Rosanne by her father, Johnny Cash-was also named Album of the Year by the Americana Music Association. In addition, her best-selling 2010 memoir, Composed, was described by the Chicago Tribune as one of the best accounts of an American life you will likely ever read.
Cash, who has charted 21 Top 40 country singles, including 11 Number Ones, wrote all of the new album's songs with her longtime collaborator (and husband) John Leventhal, who also served as producer, arranger, and guitarist. Featuring a long list of guests-from young guns like John Paul White (The Civil Wars) and Derek Trucks to such legends as John Prine and Tony Joe White-The River and the Thread is a kaleidoscopic examination of the geographic, emotional, and historic landscape of the American South. The album's unique sound, which draws from country, blues, gospel, and rock, reflects the soulful mix of music that traces its history to the region.

Rosanne Cash acknowledges that, even with fifteen albums and four books behind her, it was difficult to start writing songs again after spending several years immersed in the masterful compositions featured on The List. You cannot keep that in your mind, except as an inspiration, a standard to aspire to, she says. To say, 'I'm going to write a song as great as Take These Chains'-you're not! So the only way to not get dismantled by that is to stay connected to your own muse, and immerse yourself completely in what you're doing so it can be as rich and authentic as it can possibly be. That's all you can hope for.

With The River and the Thread, she has risen to that challenge-and emerged with a beautiful and haunting album, one of the finest works in an extraordinary career.

    Winter is coming!

Game of Thrones is the wildly successful fantasy drama television series created for HBO by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. It is an adaptation of A Song Of Ice And Fire, George R. R. Martin's series of fantasy novels. Its fourth season premiered on HBO in April 2014, with already two more seasons in preparation. The series, set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos at the end of a decade-long summer, interweaves several plot lines. The first follows the members of several noble houses in a civil war for the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms; the second covers the rising threat of the impending winter and the mythical creatures of the North; the third chronicles the attempts of the exiled last scion of the realm's deposed dynasty to reclaim the throne. The series explores issues of social hierarchy, religion, loyalty, corruption, civil war, crime, and punishment.

Game of Thrones has attracted record numbers of viewers on HBO and obtained an exceptionally broad and active international fan base. It also received widespread acclaim by critics. The series has won numerous awards and nominations, including nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award and the Golden Globes.

The soundtrack was scored by German composer Ramin Djawadi, best known for his Grammy-nominated score for Iron Man, Pacific Rim, Clash Of The Titans and for the TV series Prison Break. The fourth season soundtrack also features a single The Rains Of Castamere by Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós. The Way Is Read

Nonesuch Records releases The Way Is Read, a twelve-song album by the English trio The Staves-Emily, Jessica, and Camilla Staveley-Taylor (all vocals)-and New York City-based ensemble yMusic. After being commissioned in 2016 by Justin Vernon's Eaux Claires Festival to collaborate on a live performance piece, The Staves delved deep into yMusic's catalogue of contemporary classical compositions to find pieces suited to their lyrics and vocals. While the Festival is known for bringing musicians together for one-off performances, this is the first time one of those partnerships has made the leap into a studio album. The LP was produced by Rob Moose and Jessica Staveley-Taylor and mixed and engineered by Brian Joseph at his studio, Hive, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

The two groups will come together live again at a series of special shows at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis on December 1 and 2, and they also will perform on public radio's A Prairie Home Companion on December 16. The Way Is Read is available to pre-order now from iTunes and the Nonesuch Store, along with an instant download of the album track Trouble on My Mind, which can be heard on Spotify. You can watch a video for that song, directed by yMusic flautist Alex Sopp, here:

Emily Staveley-Taylor says of the collaboration, Our aim from the outset was to truly collaborate with yMusic. We wanted to feel like instruments and join in with some of yMusic's existing work, using our voices in ways we hadn't previously explored. We chopped up compositions and put them together again in new ways. We took old folk songs and made them abstract. The idea of forming an orchestra with these incredible musicians was fascinating. What we have ended up with is everything we'd hoped, more than we dreamed, and hopefully the tip of the iceberg.

Rob Moose of yMusic adds, When Justin raised the possibility of our groups collaborating, we immediately upped the stakes by focusing on a combination of new Staves songs and transformations of yMusic's composed works. It was as much a thrill to hear songs emerge organically over sections of intricate chamber music as it was satisfying to strip songs of the instrument that created them, whether guitar or piano, in order to craft new connective tissue. This project was born of voice memos sent back and forth across the seas, two frenetic days in a Manhattan rehearsal space, a festival set, and a single day of recording in the woods outside of Eau Claire.

The Staves, also known as Jessica, Camilla and Emily Staveley-Taylor, moved to Minneapolis from London in the summer of 2016, where they lived for a year in order to be closer to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, friend and collaborator Justin Vernon's hometown, which has become a creative hub and second home to them. The sisters have worked with Stones and Who producer Glyn Johns, as well as Laura Marling and Ryan Adams producer Ethan Johns. In addition to their three albums and several EPs, The Staves have headlined tours across North America and Europe and performed on tours with Bon Iver, Florence and the Machine, Angus and Julia Stone, and The Civil Wars. The New York Times said of their 2015 Vernon-produced Nonesuch debut, If I Was, the songs are illuminated from within, and Magnet said, The perfection just goes on and on until you start to wonder: Are they human?

Hailed by Performance Today's Fred Child as one of the groups that has really helped to shape the future of classical music, yMusic comprises six New York City instrumentalists-violinist Rob Moose, violist Nadia Sirota, cellist Gabriel Cabezas, clarinettist Hideki Aomori, flutist Alex Sopp, and trumpeter CJ Camerieri-flourishing in the overlap between the pop and classical worlds. Their virtuosic execution and unique configuration has attracted the attention of high profile collaborators-from Paul Simon to Ben Folds to JosÉ González-and inspired an expanding repertoire of original works by some of today's foremost composers, including Nico Muhly and Andrew Norman.

    Teacher Don't Teach Me Nonsense

Teacher Don't Teach Me Nonsense: Fela explains the role of the teacher in any society with the concept that: all the things we consider as problems, and all the good things we accept from life as good, begin with what we are taught. The individual teaching begins with when we are children - our mother is our teacher. When we come of school age, our teacher is the school-teacher. At the university, the lecturers and professors are our teachers. After university-when we start to work, government becomes the individual's teacher. When then is government's teacher? 'Culture and Tradition' says Fela. This is the order of things everywhere in the world. However, it is the problem side of teacher and student that interests Fela in this song. Because every country in this world except in Africa, it is the respective culture and tradition of that country that guides the government on how to rule their people. Going for specifics, Fela mentions France, Germany, England, Korea, Japan, Syria, Jordan, Iran, Etc., it is the culture of these countries that shapes and guides their respective government's decisions. The culture and traditions of these countries serve as a teacher to their respective governments. Turing his attention to Africa and her problems. Problems which he had sang about: corruption, inflation, mismanagement, authority stealing, electoral fraud, the latest addition which even makes him laugh is -austerity. Fela says if you ask him why 'austerity makes him laugh? The answer is that it is beyond crying. The government steals money from the country, the same government is introducing austerity measures-forcing the poor people to pay for their own greed and calling it 'austerity measures'. How funny if to say the least. Who taught African 'leaders' to rule the way they do today? 'Na the oyinbo' (meaning in Yoruba language: 'it is them white folks') referring to ex-colonial ruler of each country. Take electoral fraud, which is a true test of our democracy. Many African leaders rig elections with impunity and their respective ex-colonial rulers say nothing against this form of 'democracy'. While the same 'white folks' are quick to claim credit for Africa's 'civilization'-which Fela disputes in this song. Is this democracy? , he asks. Turning to other problems like the ever-growing gap between the rich and the poor. Particularly, since the rich are the rules, and also the people stealing the country into poverty. Is this democracy? Or dem-all-crazy? In conclusion, as an African personality, Fela says he is not in the same league as those who believe in dem-all-crazy, so he calls on the Western powers who claim to be Africa's teachers not to teach him nonsense-Teacher Don't Teach Me Nonsense.

Look and Laugh: By 1981 when Fela wrote and started to perform live the song Look And Laugh, he was living a life that could be described as a recluse. Fela, who loved to go out in public places, clubs, etc. Suddenly, was always found sleeping or playing sax at home with women around him, or performing at the Africa Shrine. His old attitude of keeping abreast of events, giving lectures at universities and institutions of higher learning stopped. He rarely gave press conferences or press releases, like he used to do. Finally he wrote the song to explain what was going-on with him. He sang: ' many of you go dey wonder why your man never write new song! wetin I dey do be say I dey look and laugh.' Meaning: many of you must have been wondering why, your man has not written new songs! what I am doing is just look and laugh! Fela went on to explain his contributions and sacrifices for the cause of black emancipation, the countless beatings and arrests from the Nigerian police and army, his trials and tribulations, his ultimate sacrifice being the burning down of Kalakuta by the Nigeria army. But despite his sacrifices and sufferings like millions of other Africans, it was obvious that things were not getting better for the average man on the street. There is still injustice everywhere, no freedom, no happiness. All these made him feel disillusioned and all he could do about the situation is to Look and Laugh.

Just Like That: This song is a call to arms from Fela to all Africans to rise up and do something about the political, economic, social and cultural retrogression that has plagued Africa since independence. For more than three decades of independence, there is glaring mismanagement of people's lives, corruption in the highest echelon of government-all these carried out with impunity-'Just Like That' he sings. Using the Nigerian experience as an example of the 'lack of maintenance culture', in Africa's present day neo-colonial administrations, he says: 'White man ruled us for many years, we had electricity constantly, our leaders take over! No electricity in town-Just like that!' Fela explains that the attempt to transplant 'Western style democracy' in an African society is the cause of all the problems. Despite calls for African Unity from leaders like Kwame Nkrumah, who said: '..Until all foreign institutions and culture are removed from the African land, that is when the African genius will be born and African personality will find its fulfillment..'. Instead of heeding Nkrumah's call, Nigeria's political founding fathers, like most African leaders at independence, chose the option of fashioning the constitutions of their respective countries after those of the departing colonial 'masters'-Just Like That. The ambiguity of such decisions can be seen in the poor imitation we make of our attempt at 'Western style democracy'. Persistent political gangsterism, military coups, and sometimes wars, are means used to enforce the already compromised constitutions. As another example of enforcing a fragile constitution, Fela stresses the face that in 1966, Nigeria for a civil war to keep the country ONE. General Gowon, the military head of state, divided Nigeria into twelve administrative regions, subsequent administrations divided the regions into more-Just Like That. He adds that if the idea of the civil war was to keep the country ONE, sub-dividing Nigeria into more regions would separate rather than unite the country. Turning to the position of traditional rulers in the mess called government, Fela sings: ' nothing good for town to give the youths good examples, how our traditional ruler they do, them come make youths look-up to Europe and USA, in those places them don lose them common sense, na the number of Nuclear weapons you get, na him give you power pass! Right now! Fight now! Suffer must stop! Just Like That". Therefore, calling on the people to fight now for a better society.

    Battle Born

From out of the wreckage of the American Civil War, the great state of Nevada came into being on October 31st, 1864. Its creation immediately helped to secure the re-election of Abraham Lincoln, the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment and, ultimately, the future of the union. Today, that proud but painful history is enshrined in the two words emblazoned on the upper left-hand corner of the state flag: Battle Born.

That phrase has always resonated with Brandon Flowers. It's what The Killers named their studio in Las Vegas, and when the band reconvened last May to start work on the follow-up to 2008's Day & Age, it became first a song title, then a thematic touchstone, and eventually the name of the album itself. But not all battles are blood and thunder: after a yearlong hiatus that saw three of the four Killers launch solo careers, they quickly discovered that timing and circumstance can be daunting adversaries in their own right.

Safe to say, Battle Born's title was well-earned. "It's the hardest thing I've ever done, no question," says Brandon. "It's the longest we've ever taken to make a record, and the longest I've ever spent on the lyrics. We thought we had enough songs, but then we realized that we didn't, and so we had to pound away and grind it out until we were certain that we were ready."

A small-town drama of epic-scale proportions, "Runaways" is everything you could wish for from a Killers comeback single; an unmistakably American expression of romance and optimism that heralds their return with cyclonic, Who-esque guitars and a chorus big enough to be bellowed from one end of the Mojave to the other.

One of the album's oldest songs, the bare bones were written in 2009 on the Day & Age tour, but, says Brandon, "We never knew what to do with it. Day & Age was us trying to be more of a pop group, but Runaways was rootsy and American, and it threw me for a curve. I knew it was a powerful song. But when it came time to make the album, there was an understanding the four of us had that we were gonna do what we're good at. The Killers write a specific kind of song, and we're not gonna shy away from it. So 'Runaways' became a kind of launching pad."

More songs followed: the title track, a musical 'brother' to its lead single; "Here With Me," the album's heartstring-tugging emotional gravity-centre; the stadia-quaking electro-rock of "Flesh & Bone." By the time the band had satisfactorily refined that body of songs, however, none of the producers on their shortlist could commit to making a whole album, necessitating a process whereby they recorded in fits and starts with a stellar roll-call of names that included Daniel Lanois, Steve Lillywhite, Damian Taylor, Stuart Price and Brendan O'Brien.

And therein lies Battle Born's real triumph. Recorded almost entirely at the studio that shares its name, it incorporates elements from each of the records that came before it; Hot Fuss' storytelling eye for detail; the yearning, mythic Americana of Sam's Town; the gratuitous hooks and pop nous of Day & Age; without sounding overtly like any one in particular. It's the sound of a band recognizing, and celebrating, their own identity. To borrow Brandon's maxim, Battle Born is The Killers "Doing what we do best."

Bootstraps is a singer/songwriter/alt-rock band formed in LA, fronted by Jordan Beckett.

Liza Richardson award winning music supervisor and KCRW DJ, calls Bootstraps her, Secret weapon that no one else really knows about. It's true,
Bootstraps are relatively unknown to the public, however they've racked up a string of high profile TV and film placements, landed on elite top-10 Best
Album of the Year lists, garnered awards and won over the industry's most selective audience. Their debut has built momentum from what Liza calls an
instantly likable, intelligent and signature sound that the Examiner labeled as Americana-laced gorgeousness and Paste Magazine paralleled to Ray
La Montayne, with hints of Bon Iver and Band of Horses .

After being named Hydrogen Magazine's "Band to Watch" singer Jordan Beckett spoke about their unique recording process. We tracked the album live,
the old fashioned way with help from Richard Dodd (Civil Wars, Kings of Leon) who enhanced this vision in the studio.

The singer concluded, Live recording as a full band is just that, it's alive, making it possible to capture moments and the feeling that makes music music.
That feeling has translated on ABC, NBC and CBS shows and at the Nashville Film Festival where the band took home the prestigious 'Best Music in a
Film award. These accolades have merely set the stage for their debut album to break out beyond music industry insiders.

    Silt

Wonderwheel Recordings is proud to present the debut album, Silt, from Sudanese singer Alsarah and her band the Nubatones. Called "The New Star Of Nubian Pop" by The Guardian, the album was produced solely by Alsarah who describes the sound of Silt as "East African Retro Pop". It's music that harkens back to the hazy sounds of 1960s and 70s Nubian music with it's haunting instrumentation, soaring vocal melodies, and pentatonic arrangements.

The album has it's musical roots in the Nubian "Songs of Return" that began to spring up after mass displacement and resettlement of hundreds of thousands in a region of lower Nubia that Went under water after Egypt built Aswan High Dam to Control the flooding of the Nile in 1970. The focus of these songs, both thematically and lyrically is about a return to home and the beauty of home and embodies a certain kind of saudade - a nostalgic longing for a place that no longer exists. The album encompasses Alsarah and her band's musical Curiosities around Concept of migration being all displaced immigrant themselves. Silt is their take on ' L ' the music of this time and place mixed with the fusion goings-on of Khartoum, along with Arabic and North African influences appearing in the mix.

Alsarah, is a Sudanese born singer, songwriter and ethnomusicologist. Born in the capital city of Khartoum, where she spent the first 8 years of her life, she relocated to Taez, Yemen with her family to escape the ever stifling regime in her native country. She abruptly moved to the US in 1994, when a brief civil war broke out in Yemen. Now residing in Brooklyn, NY, she is a self-proclaimed practitioner of East-African retro-pop. Working on various projects, she most recently has been working with The Nile Project and was featured on their debut release, Aswan (named one of the top 5 must hear International albums of 2013 by NPR). She has also collaborated with French producer Dêbruit on the album Aljwal, released this past November via Soundway Records.

The Nubatones started out as dinner conversation between Alsarah and percussionist Rami El Aasser in his living room, digging thru archives of old music from North Africa, and reading about migration patterns in modern day Nubia, Soon the conversation opened into a musical one and spread to include master Oud player and Luthier Haig Manoukian and bass player Mawuena Kodjovi. With a collective love for pentatonic music and a common understanding of what it means to be an immigrant, the group Went on to perform both nationally and internationally at prestigious venues such as The Kennedy Center, The Apollo Music Cafe, Celebrate Brooklyn at Prospect Park, The World Music festival in Chicago, and The Festival du Mon'd Arab in Montreal just to name a few.

    The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan

Ranked 97/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Dylans 1963 Sophomore Effort Marks the Beginning of a Cultural Sea Change

Wider Grooves, Superior Sound: Mobile Fidelitys 45RPM Edition The Last Word in Analog Fidelity

Records Ambitious Poetry, Melodies, and Moral Conviction Transformed Songwriting, Folk, and Pop

Includes Masters of War, Blowin in the Wind, and A Hard Rains A-Gonna Fall

Another Side of Bob Dylan, Bringing It All Back Home, Blonde on Blonde, Blood on the Tracks, and The Basement Tapes Also Available from Mobile Fidelity

Its the album the ignited sea changes in pop culture, music, songwriting, poetry, and the social consciousness. Its the creation of a 22-year-old visionary still years away from casting a jaundiced eye to the media. Its the sound of change, the feeling of ground shifting beneath ones feet, and the entrance of an entirely new way of thinking. Its the effective beginning of whats arguably the boldest career in music history, the yawning vortex into the complex mind, supernatural wordplay, and folk techniques of a vocalist/guitarist whose name is forever associated with transformation. Its The Freewheelin Bob Dylan.

As part of its Bob Dylan catalog restoration series, Mobile Fidelity is thoroughly humbled to have the privilege of mastering the iconic LP from the original master tapes and pressing it on 45RPM LPs at RTI. The end result is the very finest, most transparent analog edition of The Freewheelin Bob Dylan ever produced. Never before has the resonance of his nylon guitar strings, fingerpicked notes, shivering harmonica fills, or plainspoken timbre possessed such clarity, openness, body, or realism.

With the advantage of wider and deeper grooves, the 45RPM pressing affords the opportunity to detect more information and lavish in extra richness. Whether its the exaggerated nasal accents employed on Down the Highway or the decay of each strummed line on the entirely acoustic album, previously concealed details, microdynamics, and ambient cues surface enhancing the listeners experience and taking them inside Columbia's Studio A where history was made by leaps and bounds.

Exponentially surpassing the potential he demonstrated on his debut, Dylan became a mirror of the concerns, issues, and feelings confronting the nation. Writing and singing with penetrating honesty, observational wit, moral conviction, and scathing emotion, he digs into the madness of war (Masters of War, A Hard Rains A-Gonna Fall), hypocrisy of segregation (Oxford Town), urgency of civil rights and freedom (Blowin in the Wind), and multiple angles of unrequited love (Girl From the North Country, Dont Think Twice Its All Right) with a literate astuteness and depth that, nearly 50 years later, still leave audiences slack-jawed. Satire, absurdist humor, and traditional blues also pepper the album, which rests upon graceful melodies and sparse, poignant patterns.

Viewed as protest songs, love songs, folk songs, or talking blues songs, the material on The Freewheelin Bob Dylan remains amongst the most astonishing and imaginative ever committed to tape. It deserves as much as you deserve a fidelity that makes as closely intimate as possible the musics connection with you. You deserve this edition.

Given the sonic and artistic merit of this album, we anticipate huge demand.
