The Volume One collection contains all of Def Leppard's iconic 1980s recordings - On Through The Night, High 'N' Dry, Pyromania and Hysteria - with reproductions of the original packaging. Furthermore, this collection includes a replica 7-inch single of the band's original independent EP, the self-titled The Def Leppard E.P. The Volume One collection also houses bonus material including Live At The LA Forum 1983, originally released as a bonus disc in the deluxe CD version of Pyromania, making this the first-ever vinyl offering of the complete show. This 2LP version comes with a new sleeve and inner bags. The box set also includes Rarities Volume 1 which has been specially compiled by Joe Elliott, containing rare B-sides and recordings from Def Leppard's early years, all in a newly commissioned sleeve. Each album in the Volume One box set was mastered by longtime band producer/soundmaster Ronan McHugh and frontman/vocalist Joe Elliott at Joe's Garage in Dublin, Ireland, and cut by Greg Moore. Housed in rigid boxes, the Volume One collection also contains a hardback book with rare photos by longstanding band confidant Ross Halfin and liner notes by Classic Rock's Paul Elliott. Def Leppard bandmembers Joe Elliott, bassist Rick Savage, drummer Rick Allen, and guitarist Phil Collen have all also contributed their personal introductions to the collection.

    Complete Albums Volume 1 (1968-1976)

Fifty Years After Steve Miller Band's First Two Capitol Records Albums Were Released In 1968, The Acclaimed Group's First Nine Studio Albums Have Been Remastered By Steve Miller And Kent Hertz For This New 180-Gram Vinyl Box Set

Steve Miller Band have announced the release of an unprecedented new vinyl box set collection, Complete Albums Volume 1 (1968-1976), which is set for release through Capitol/UMe.

Pressed on remastered 180g vinyl, the new box spans the band's first studio album Children Of The Future from 1968 through to 1976's multi-platinum masterpiece, Fly Like An Eagle. Also included in the box are Sailor, Brave New World, Your Saving Grace, Number 5, Rock Love, Recall The Beginning A Journey From Eden and The Joker.

One of the world's most commercially successful and acclaimed artist/bands in the history of popular music, Steve Miller was a mainstay of the San Francisco music scene that upended American culture in the late 60s. The Steve Miller Band released two LPs on Capitol Records in 1968: Children of the Future, and Sailor, which included 'Living In The USA', which became a staple on the new rock radio format. Next came Brave New World, the band's third album including the hit 'Space Cowboy,' and 'My Dark Hour,' which Miller recorded in London with fellow label-mate, Paul McCartney, who is credited as Paul Ramon.

After the band's next few albums, Your Saving Grace (1969), Rock Love (1971), Recall The Beginning (1972), and Number 5 (1970), Miller made some changes to the band, went to Los Angeles and produced his own record in 19 days. That album was The Joker. The title track became a Number One worldwide smash hit. Miller had crafted a brand of pure pop that was polished, exciting and irresistible that dominated radio in a way that few artists have ever managed.

His next two albums, Fly Like An Eagle (1976) and Book Of Dreams (1977), both went multi-platinum, and the hits they generated are among the most recognizable songs in pop music history. Hit followed hit in what seemed like an endless flow: 'Take The Money And Run,' 'Rock'n Me,' 'Fly Like An Eagle,' 'Jet Airliner,' 'Jungle Love,' and 'Swingtown,' to name a few. In 1978, Capitol released Greatest Hits 1974-78, which has sold more than 17 million copies worldwide. Miller's had a worldwide hit with 'Abracadabra,' the title track of his 1982 album and in 1986, a #1 Billboard Rock Album Track with 'I Want To Make The World Turn Around.' To this day, his songs are instantly recognizable when they come on the radio. Their hooks are the very definition of indelible.

    Works Volume 1

Remastered For The First Time In 24 Bit / High-Density Formats From The Original Tapes

Works Volume 1 (originally released as 'Works') is ELP's fifth studio album, released as a double LP in 1977, and now expertly remastered for the first time in 24 bit / High-Density formats from the original tapes and reissued here as a 2LP set. The album is comprised of three solo band member LP sides, with the fourth showcasing the complete group.

Works Volume 1 features ELP's anthemic and stylish 'Fanfare For The Common Man', a massive hit which reached No.2 in the U.K.; the brilliant, Keith Emerson compiled, Piano Concerto No.1, performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra; excellent romantic songs from Greg Lake at the peak of his creativity, and hard rocking classical adaptations from Carl Palmer - featuring Joe Walsh on lead guitar for one song. This album took ELP's bombastic, keyboard-driven prog rock epics to the limit.

Formed in 1970, Emerson, Lake & Palmer were torchbearers of the progressive rock sound and one of rock's first supergroups. The world-conquering, stadium-filling prog giants helped to broaden the audience for the genre from hundreds of thousands into tens of millions and were one the most commercially successful rock bands of the 1970s. Their first 7 album releases all made the U.K. albums chart top 10 and U.S. top 20.

Oscar Pettiford: Volume 2 (Pure Pleasure)

Oscar Pettiford became a major influence on a number of jazz artists along with fellow bassists Jimmy Blanton and Charles Mingus. This album titles as Volume 2 or Another One, Pettiford's third album as a leader for the Bethlehem label, was recorded in 1955. This exceptional date features the horns of Donald Byrd, Ernie Royal, Bob Brookmeyer, Gigi Gryce, and Jerome Richardson. Highlights include the Pettiford-penned Bohemia After Dark, named after the club in Greenwich Village and acknowledged as a jazz standard, Stardust, featuring Pettiford's poetic bass faintly accompanied by pianist Don Abney, and Minor Seventh Heaven, with Pettiford switching to cello. This is not just a bebop date; Pettiford had the range to incorporate influences like Duke Ellington and calypso, creating a full, lyrical band sound that matched his bass playing. Pettiford's legacy was cut short after he passed away suddenly in 1958 in Copenhagen at the age of 37.

    Musicians:

    • Donald Byrd, Ernie Royal (trumpet)

    • Bob Brookmeyer (trombone)

    • Gigi Gryce (alto saxophone, clarinet)

    • Jerome Richardson (tenor saxophone, clarinet, flute)

    • Don Abney (piano)

    • Oscar Pettiford (bass. cello)

    • Osie Johnson (drums)

Recording: August 1955 in New York City

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Tiny Tim's America

Limited To 1000 Copies Pressed On 2 Version Of Wax (Randomly Inserted) - Black Or Red/White/Blue

Never Before Heard Material From Tiny

4-Page, Full Color Booklet Included Featuring Liner Notes And A Collection Of Never-Before-Seen Photos

ALL ABOARD! Tiny Tim is taking us for a wild ride down the gramophone horn as he resurrects the sounds of yesteryear - his way.

Tiny Tim's America began in 1974 when Tiny Tim recorded a rehearsal tape alone in his New York City hotel room. Now, Ship To Shore PhonoCo. has reunited Tiny with his producer Richard Barone (I've Never Seen A Straight Banana: Rare Moments, Volume 1) and his cousin, pianist and arranger Eddie Rabin, to help Tiny complete the album he began 42 years ago!

Featuring Tiny's renditions of a rich collection of turn of the century, Edison cylinder-era songs, Tiny Tim's America showcases Tiny at his best; free from the constraints of producers and studios, and displaying the breadth of his musical knowledge and true depth of his ability as a performer.

    series.

Issued respectively by John Fahey's Takoma record label in 1980 and Leon's Arbitor
private press in 1982, Nommos and Visiting were the twin brainchildren of studio wizard
Craig Leon. Leon's production was pivotal in realizing the debut recordings by Ramones,
Blondie, Richard Hell and Suicide. While those albums broke ground in new worlds of sound,
Leon's own debut album was arguably, if not literally, more alien.

In 1973 , the Brooklyn Museum hosted a comprehensive collection of sculptures by the
Dogon of the Republic of Mali, a tribe whose religion is based in reveries and recollections
of a visit from an extraterrestrial species they named Nommos. Years after experiencing the
exhibit, Leon remained fascinated by the idea of alien visitors sharing not just stories of their
home-planet, but musical traditions as well. For the classically trained Leon, a puzzle was
presented and a challenge in place: what would music sound like if handed down from an
ancient alien species? And how best to imagine it?

Upon meeting Fahey in the late 70s, Leon pitched the concept as an opportune time to
employ the latest and greatest synthesizer technology available. An avant empathist and
eternally free spirit, Fahey enthusiastically green-lighted the project for his Takoma imprint.
After a secluded week in an Austin, Texas studio with his partner, wife and collaborator
Cassell Webb, Leon returned with a collection of incorporeal melodies generated by the
Oberheim OB-X, Roland JP-4 and Arp 2600 synthesizers propelled by primitive rhythms
programmed on a prototype of Roger Linn's nascent drum-machine, the LM-1.

Issued by Fahey with zero expectation of the same radio airplay Leon accomplished
with his pop productions, Nommos now stands as an innovative example of cosmic-synth
composition that wasn't made for its time or any other. For this edition, Leon has in fact
re-animated Nommos by re-recording the exact audio signals as preserved in the album's
original studio notes. Every patch, tape-delay speed and outboard setting was transcribed
as first scored, materializing the best possible audio from an album whose masters were lost
in major label merger milieu years ago.

Additionally, the re-master of Visiting was supervised firsthand by Leon. As its title
suggests, Visiting materialized in 1982 as a conceptual continuation of Nommos. The
album is in equal measure more improvisatory and constructed than its predecessor. Both
albums were intended to be listened to as a set in the first volume of Leon's Anthology of
Interplanetary Folk Music (the title was an homage to Harry Smith's influential collection of
folk music issued two decades prior). A creative evolutionist, Leon made subtle edits and
compositional additions to both albums to enhance the connectivity and encourage infinite
    interpretation.

While reissues and bootlegs have appeared to relieve the demand for these records,
this collection will stand as the first ever version authorized by Craig Leon himself. The
vinyl edition will be housed in a 2xLP set that includes detailed artwork and two essays by
Leon. The first tells the complete story of the stargazing Dogon people and their prescient
understanding of cosmology. The second details Leon's adventure in creating the Anthology
of Interplanetary Folk Music Vol. 1, an epic story bookended on this side of history as one
    seamless synth classic.

Williams' 2011 Studio Set on 2LP Includes Entire Album on CD Plus a Bonus CD of the Kitchen Tapes Demos

Americana Legend's 12th Record Produced by Don Was

Features Guest Appearances by Elvis Costello and Matthew Sweet

Following a two-year break between albums, and the blossoming of a relationship that turned into marriage, one of the great contemporary songwriters and music makers returns with her twelfth studio set. And being that the artist we're talking about is Lucinda Williams, the record is a doozy.

Diverse and captivating, Blessed opens with the gritty kiss-off Buttercup then moves seamlessly into the sultry blues of Born To Be Loved. Williams delves into a heavier subject as she questions the motives for a suicide on the hard-driving Seeing Black, which features blistering guitar from Elvis Costello. The thoughtful title track slowly builds to a melodic climax as it offers an eye-opening look at whats right in front of us, but too often unnoticed. The singer/guitarist's knack for insights and emotive songs run throughout the 12-song set.

Poignant and powerful, Soldiers Song simultaneously tells a tragic story of the soldier overseas and his wife and child back home. On the gorgeous Kiss Like Your Kiss, Williams lays down one of the most beautiful and fragile vocals she has ever recorded. The original version of the song appeared on the True Blood: Music From The HBO Original Series - Volume 2, and was recently nominated for a Grammy Award.

Its nothing new to see Williams tug at the heartstrings and stimulate the mind on her songs, but there is a vibe throughout Blessed that is unique to this album: the sound of wisdom, wherewithal, and experience Williams has gained through her more than 30 years as an uncompromising artist. Combine that pedigree with Grammy Award-winning producer Don Was, and the results are nothing but special. Was co-produced Blessed with Eric Liljestrand and Tom Overby, who co-produced Williams' highly-praised 2008 effort Little Honey.

Lost Highway's 2LP pressing of Blessed also includes the entire album on CD as well as a revealing bonus disc, titled The Kitchen Tapes, which presents the record's songs in demo form as Williams recorded them, often at her kitchen table, as she's prone to do. Complete packaging on new studio records doesn't come any better!

    Throned In Blood (Awaiting Repress)

Throned In Blood is the seventh release from acclaimed sludge metallers Jucifer. The album was completed during a snowstorm in December 2009 at Akdar Studios in Pennsylvania. Its lyrics and music address themes of war, conquest and nihilism, spanning a broad timeline of human existence.

Formed in 1993, Jucifer is known for pioneering the two piece band and being the first to tour at club level with stadium sized amplification--- a literal wall of sound. Their music presaged and paved the way for current acceptance of experimentation and genre crossing between extreme metal and other styles of music.

Throned In Blood is the first Jucifer album to approach the experience of seeing the band live. It is short and proceeds at full steam, demanding to be cranked to high volume on your stereo. Yet the depth of sound, subtle ear candy, mood shifts, and occasional aching beauty that fans have come to expect from these albums are also present. Throned In Blood finds nomadic Jucifer entering its seventeenth year in full anarchic glory.

Eleven studio albums and 33 years into their career, and ANTHRAX is set to output quite possibly the best thing they've ever done. "For All Kings" pulls no punches. This is a seriously heavy and astonishingly good record.

2013 saw the departure of guitarist Rob Caggiano to Volbeat, and the arrival of Jon Donais from Shadows Fall, who also makes his recording debut with Anthrax. Joey Belladonna is far and away the star of this recording, and I'll tell you why. In a world where an organic instrument like a voice can deteriorate over time and change how it sounds can be devastating for someone who makes their living from it- I'm looking at you, David Lee Roth. It's very evident that Mr. Belladonna does not have such issues, as his delivery is just as powerful as it was 30 years ago. Charlie Benante's amazing drumming is another constant in Anthrax, as is Frank Bello's bass playing; always top-notch and inspired. Band leader, Scott Ian, has brought Anthrax an incredible distance, and really shows off his mature musicianship with the other guys with his superior songwriting, even contributing lyrics for the first single, "Evil Twin", which was loosely written about the terrorist attack on the Charlie Hebdo publication offices in 2015.

They began recording in late 2014 with producer Jay Ruston in Los Angeles, California. Reportedly 15-20 songs were recorded and completed. Early in 2015, We were treated with a new song, "Soror Irrumator" which was featured on the Catch The Throne Mixtape Volume Two, and was scheduled to appear on "For All Kings", but strangely, does not appear on the album, despite what the band had suggested. Alex Ross gets his third turn as album artist, as he depicts the band as giant statues.

Anthrax today, is not the Anthrax of 1987, and "For All Kings" is not "Among The Living", even though 4/5 of the band are still intact from their peak period. I say that in a good way, because as good as they were then, to put it simply, they're better now. Better songwriters, better musicians, seasoned bandmates that know that they're better together than apart. If you loved "Worship Music" as much as I did, you'll love this album. When you can be a band that has played together for well over 30 years and still put out quality music like "For All Kings", it's nothing short of magic.

    It's Like This

This lovely set of intimately arranged and meticulously recorded covers, originally issued in 2000, is precisely the kind of semi-obscure album in need of a quality all-analog reissueThe superbly natural sound produced by this record is what spending big bucks on an audio system is all about. Set the volume appropriately and Ms. Jones'll draw you into the studio for a personal song recitalThis is one to savor. Music = 9/11; Sound = 10/11 Michael Fremer, www.musicangle.com

this effort from 2000 shows Jones conjuring such magic with the material that she deserves as much attention for reworking standards as do Carly Simon or Linda Ronstadt. Kicking off with Steely Dan's 'Show Biz Kids,' and with appearances by Joe Jackson and Ben Folds, among the highpoints is the Beatles' 'For No One' that ranks as among the finest Beatles cover ever. And considering that they number in the tens of thousands, that's about as high as praise gets. Recording = 5/5; Performances = 5/5 Album of the Month Ken Kessler, Hi-Fi News, April 2008

The Rickie Lee Jones 45rpm is AWESOME UNREAL AMAZING!!! I have to get a backup copy. I'll play this one to death. Danny Kaey, Positive-Feedback Online

Not since Billie Holiday has there been a vocalist who so completely transforms a song into her own. On It's Like This, eclectic folkie Rickie Lee Jones envelops standards, showtunes, '70s soul, and even slick jazz-rock, interpreting them with her familiar childlike, breathy shouts. In a very similar vein as 1991's Pop Pop, Jones pulls together a collection of diverse songs from throughout the 20th century and gives them a sparse, fragile spin, kind of like Diana Krall and Bjork sharing coffee at an all-night diner. Produced by Bruce Brody (who has also worked with Maria McKee and Bette Midler), this album is really a showcase for the dynamic vocalist - her voice pitching and yawing like a sloop far out at sea. Several notable artists scatter themselves unobtrusively throughout the album like Joe Jackson, Ben Folds, John Pizzarelli, and Taj Mahal; each lend a subtle bass line or harmony vocal, cautiously not stepping on any of Jones' delicate lines.

The Great American Songbook (Pure Pleasure)

This is a gem of an album and one of my favorites by McRae. It was recorded live for Atlantic Records at Donte's Club in Los Angeles on November 6, 1971, and released the following year.

What I love is not only the choice of songs but the sound quality and the performance itself. The set not only contains established standards by Ellington, Cole Porter and the other greats, but some new (at the time) material. Including Burt Bacharach's They Long To Be Close To You in the set was a wise decision in my opinion. It deserves to be a standard. Of course, there is the obligatory Billie Holiday song that McRae would include in all of her performances. On this album it's I Cried For You, which was one of Billie's first recordings in 1936.

The sound quality is superb. The engineer managed to capture not only the energy from the live performance, but the richness of the ensemble backing McRae. Indeed, the musicians backing her are perfect for the material: Jimmy Rowles on piano (who wrote the Ballad of Thelonious Monk), Joe Pass on guitar, Chuck Domanico on bass and Chuck Flores on drums.

If you love hearing some of the best songs from the Great American Songbook performed by a master this album will delight you. There is a cohesiveness to the album that earns kudos from the production team as well as the performers. Interestingly McRae and her ensemble performed 32 songs the night that this was recorded. One can only speculate as to why a volume 2 wasn't released. Regardless, this is - in my opinion - some of McRae's best live material. - Mike Tarrani

    In Person (Pure Pleasure)

Note: This issue is as the original vinyl album issue & contains all the dialogue from Ray and the stage promoter, along with audience participation.

I bought this LP, of the Atlanta concert, in 1960. It knocked me out then, and it knocks me out now. For me, this IS Ray Charles. In the intro to Night Time Is The Right Time Ray says, »... and Miss Marjorie Hendricks will help us out on vocals ...«, and boy, does she help out! Turn up the volume and strap yourself down.
The greatness of this album. Ray was touring with his band in the 50's, and they played at a concert in Herndon Stadium, Atlanta. An engineer at radio station WAOK recorded the occasion on a one track tape recorder using a single microphone. The recording was later played over the air. The response of the radio audience was overwhelming, resulting in the ultimate release of the Atlantic album. It is one of the most extraordinary albums of all time. First, the recording is amazing considering how it was recorded. The band is heard with perfect clarity and balance, and the audience is also picked up, and you can hear the shouting, whooping, the give and take with the audience, and the extraordinary energy in what was a typical concert of Ray Charles playing to his own audience. Many of the tunes were or became classics, known to every funk and blues musician in the country and to most of the population at large. Ray Charles was revered like no other musician.

This is the most cathartic of all Ray Charles' recordings. On two tracks, The Right Time and Tell The Truth-both shared with the Raelettes' lead singer, Marjorie Hendricks-the music transcends art to become powerfully shamanistic. It remains one of the greatest rhythm and blues albums of all time.

    Up In Arms (Awaiting Repress)

We work hard, and we have a lot to say. Look around the planet - people are fed up with the corrupt ruling class. They destroy the planet and kill millions for profit, and the formula for our response is simple: Anger + applied knowledge = results. Don't just bitch. Change it.

    - JOHN JOSEPH

At its purest, there is little that can match the visceral thrill and empowering spirit of hardcore. As frontman of New York City hardcore kings Cro-Mags, this is something John Joseph knows very well, and with Up In Arms, he and his Bloodclot compatriots deliver a furious collection that hits hard on every level. "In this band we're doing what each of us have always done: give it our all," he states plainly.

The results reflect the roots and passions of the individual members. Danzig/Murphy's Law guitarist Todd Youth was the first piece of the puzzle. "We've always talked about doing this record together, Todd had songs written and I had notebooks full of lyrics. In late September 2015, I went out to LA to do a triathlon and injured my calf muscle, so I couldn't race, and Todd said he could get some studio time. So, we went in and cut the demo. While there are things we may perceive as a negative in our lives, in fact the universe has a bigger plan, and that experience ultimately resulted in the record." Having been friends with Queens Of The Stone Age and Danzig powerhouse drummer Joey Castillo for three decades, the two musicians had long admired each other's work, and their collaboration has been a long time coming. Following Castillo's suggestion of bringing in Nick Oliveri (Queens Of The Stone Age/The Dwarves) to handle bass duties, the lineup was complete. The songs that comprise Up In Arms manifested after the quartet plugged in and let the music speak for them. "We didn't decide to try to play anything, these are the songs that happened when we started jamming, and I love this band because there are no egos involved. Our goal is to make the best music possible, period. I love it when those guys contribute with melodies, etc., and I've even helped with some of the arrangements. Because we all think alike, our lyrics deal with the issues of the day, and that makes for better songs."

Every track on Up In Arms lives up to the rallying cry of the album's title - the bursts of high energy hardcore act as the perfect accompaniment to Joseph setting his sights on injustice and the seemingly endless flaws of the contemporary world. The breakneck thrashing of "Slow Kill Genocide" is an anthem for everyone sickened by those responsible for "killing the planet and all its inhabitants through industry and war. They're fucking maniacs and must be stopped." The suitably titled "Manic" attacks with bared fangs, Joseph making it clear that you can only push someone so far before they will react with violence - a call to arms for the disenfranchised who want tomorrow's world to be better than today's. Tracked at NRG in Los Angeles, the raw, old-school production that leaps out from the speaker comes courtesy of producer Zeuss (Hatebreed, Revocation), and the record was mixed by Kyle McAulay at NRG. From the moment the opening title track explodes to life, it's clear that everyone involved is having a blast and playing from the heart, and that this is no frills / no bullshit music at its most passionate - every song evoking mental images of utter chaos in a heaving mosh pit.

For anyone approaching the album for the first time, Joseph has only this to say: "Turn the volume way the fuck up!" And with plans to tour everywhere, Bloodclot will be getting in a lot of faces in 2017 and beyond. "We are already writing material and the next album is in the works. Resistance Is Futile (Awaiting Repress)

In interviews prior to the release of their 2010 album 'Postcards From A Young Man', Manic Street Preachers' Nicky Wire stated that the record represented "one last shot at mass communication". Twenty years on from their incendiary debut for Heavenly ('Motown Junk'), it seemed like the biggest cult band in the country were readying to stand aside to let any number of young upstarts attempt to scale their pedestal.

Recorded concurrently, the twin albums that followed saw the band explore previously uncharted territory. On 'Rewind the Film' (2013), the band channelled their Welsh heritage as never before in a series of raw acoustic paeans; released a few months later, 2014's 'Futurology' presented a gleaming, panoramic vision of 'Europe Endless'. Following those releases, Manic Street Preachers toured two of their peerless albums - 1994's 'The Holy Bible' and its follow-up, 1996's 'Everything Must Go'. Maybe Wire's pre-Postcards prediction was right; perhaps this was time for the band to fade out gracefully?

One listen to 'International Blue' - the first single from Manic Street Preachers' 13th album, 'Resistance is Futile' - blows that thought out of the water. The single is intensely melodic, supremely confident and driven by an empathetic melancholy. It's the perfect herald for a classic Manics album that's less one last shot at mass communication and much more a record ready made for massive communion.

Unexpectedly lyrically open, 'Resistance is Futile' finds the band working from an emotional palette they are not immediately associated with. From the cascading opening of 'People Give In' to the scattered resonance of 'The Left Behind', the album is very much the work of a band demanding to be heard and joined, at full volume. These are Manic Street Preachers songs written for the stage; songs to be sung against sunsets and shared in full-throated union.

The first Manics album to be recorded at their new Door to the River studio (situated at the head of a valley just outside Newport) with long-term Manics collaborators (producer Dave Eringa and mix engineer Chris Lord-Alge), 'Resistance is Futile' finds the Manic Street Preachers completely reinvigorated, clearly revelling in the change of scenery. The songs play to wide-vistas and open roads, nodding to the band's past (with echoes of 'Generation Terrorists' chaotic ambition of and the unrelenting melodies that run right through 'This Is My Truth ') while drawing a route map for the future.
