    Big Beat From Badsville

    On Linen Vinyl

As the Cramps approached their 20th anniversary, they showed no signs of changing their signature kitschy psychobilly style. In so many ways, Big Beat From Badsville is no different from its immediate predecessor, Flamejob, or any of the group's other records -- it's a collection of campy songs about sex, horror, violence, leather and perversion. Sonically, it's slightly rawer than Flamejob, and the group's performances are as inspired here as they are on any of their other '90s albums. And the songs are uniformly good, even if there aren't any standouts. So, Big Beat From Badsville is the kind of record that fans will be pleased with, but newcomers will just wonder what the big deal is.

A Date with Elvis is the third full-length studio album by the American garage punk band The Cramps. It was released on Big Beat Records. It was recorded in the fall of 1985 and engineered by Steve McMillan and Mark Ettel at Ocean Way Studios Hollywood, CA. The Cramps reissued the album on their own Vengeance Records in 2001 with the bonus tracks Blue Moon Baby, Georgia Lee Brown, Give Me a Woman and Get Off the Road. The album was dedicated to Ricky Nelson, who had a hit with the song Lonesome Town, which was also covered by The Cramps and is available on their first EP Gravest Hits and compilation album ...Off the Bone.

For the Cramps' second LP, husband and wife team Lux Interior and Poison Ivy brought on guitarist Kid Congo Powers (The Gun Club). The band produced the album as well, resulting in a much cleaner sound than previous work. Psychedelic Jungle's slower tunes create an even spookier sound than ever before.

From 1986 to 1990, the Cramps eschewed studio work in favor of extensive touring; this album documents a live show from August 1986. The sound quality is crude at best, but the Cramps' music and attitude are just as crude, so the already wild performances are actually somewhat enhanced. The repertoire relies heavily on A Date With Elvis and also features covers of Heartbreak Hotel and Do the Clam.

The fiendishly fun Cramps have been creating their own style of dirty Garage Rock 'N' Roll for 30 years and they show no sign of letting up. Although not the most prolific band on the planet, they certainly cram plenty of meat onto each of their silver platters when they do get around to releasing them. Look Mom, No Head!, originally released in 1991, is no exception. It's raw and it's dirty! It growls and snarls! It kicks and screams! Yes, it's The Cramps doing what they do best. If you're looking for a ghoulishly good time, look no further!

    Smell Of Female

    Red Colored Vinyl

Released in 1983 after a lengthy court battle with IRS Records, Smell of Female originally contained just the first six songs. These, plus out-of-control ad-lib freakouts "Beautiful Gardens" and "She Said" (previously omitted due to legal restrictions) were recorded live at New Yorks famous Peppermint Lounge. There is nothing like the sound of The Cramps, and this set distills that cross of swamp water, moonshine and nitro down to a dangerous and unstable musical substance, captured live like a crazed animal. They rocked like few others could.

Additional bonus track "Surfin Dead" was recorded at A&M Studios in Hollywood and originally appeared on the 1984 soundtrack for Return of the Living Dead-when asked to write a "pop song" for the movie, The Cramps (by then a three-piece) threw into their cauldron a mix of Link Wray, Jan & Dean, Davie Allen, The Righteous Brothers, bongos, Phil Spector and eye of newt.

    London Fog 1966

Collector's Edition Boxed Set Features Previously Unheard Concert Recordings From 1966 On CD And Vinyl

Includes 8 x 10 Prints Of Unseen Photos And Replica Memorabilia

Before The Doors took the music scene by storm in 1967, they were the house band at the London Fog, a Sunset Strip dive bar located just footsteps away from the world famous Whisky a Go Go, the future home of many of the band's most legendary performances. The Doors will open a virtual time capsule in December with LONDON FOG 1966, a Collector's Edition boxed set that features unearthed audio recorded at the club in May 1966. Previously unreleased and not even known to exist until recently, this marks the earliest recordings of the band and finds the quartet mixing blues covers with early versions of Doors originals.

LONDON FOG 1966 will be available as an individually numbered limited edition of 18,000 copies from Rhino/Bright Midnight Archives. Presented in a lift-top package designed to look like a vintage storage box, the set features seven songs on both CD and a 10-inch record that's made to resemble a test pressing. Noted Doors engineer Bruce Botnick recently mastered the audio for this collection.

Along with the unreleased music, the set is packed with memorabilia and historic liner notes to provide a true time capsule of that fabled night at the London Fog, including a poster, the set list handwritten by John Densmore, a program for the Royce Hall UCLA student film screening, plus a London Fog coaster. There are also liner notes included from Sunset Strip legend Ronnie Haran-Mellen, who was the talent booker at the Whisky a Go Go. Haran-Mellen saw The Doors live for the first time at the London Fog and then booked them as the permanent house band at the Whisky, leading to the band's signing to Elektra and meteoric rise to superstardom.

Also contributing liner notes is Nettie Peña, one of the lucky few to be in attendance at the London Fog for this fabled show. Peña was a pivotal force in this release coming together as she captured the audio on a ¼" reel to reel recorder, which was the property of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Her father was a teacher for LAUSD and let her borrow the recorder to take to the show. Peña also photographed the band that evening and five black and white 8x10 reprints of these unpublished photos are included in the Collector's Edition, featuring a fresh-faced Morrison on a cramped stage with John Densmore, Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek.

The show featured on LONDON FOG 1966 took place the same year that The Doors recorded their eponymous debut. Released in January 1967, the album would become one of the most influential in rock history. Like many of the band's early concerts, the show captured on this deluxe set reflects the group's deep love for the blues with covers of standards like Muddy Waters' "Rock Me" and "I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man." The set also includes raw performances of "Baby, Please Don't Go" (Big Joe Williams), "Don't Fight It" (Wilson Pickett), and "Lucille" (Little Richard).

During their residency at the London Fog, The Doors frequently worked out new songs on stage that would eventually appear on various studio albums. At this show, the band played two originals. The first, "Strange Days," would become the title track for the band's second studio album, which also came out in 1967. This is one of the only known live recordings of this track. The other Doors original, "You Make Me Real," wasn't officially released on a studio album until Morrison Hotel in 1970.

"To hear 'Strange Days,' that came out on their second album, in almost final shape so early on was truly amazing," says Jac Holzman, the President of Elektra Records who signed The Doors to their first recording contract.

Going back to the band's earliest days is a natural starting point for The Doors 50th anniversary celebration.

Los Angeles based Sextile have played three shows to date, one of which was opening for felte's Ritual Howls. The label hadn't heard a single song up to that point, but were so mesmerized with the band's raw energy and tightly wound performance, they knew they had to work together. This newly compiled collection of recordings from

as a session musician at Sun Studios under Sam

a later generation of rock vocalists, including Lux

Often mislabeled demented-rock, the Skiantos were in reality an exception to the rule. This reissue of their second album is, therefore, a road to understanding to what degree rock music was putty in the hands of this band from Bologna, who away from cumbersome references to British and American rock chose to follow their own path to originality.

Their youthful and unprejudiced energy together with the personality of great thinkers became an oft-debated manifesto, but one that is destined to maintain its importance in the years to come. The album's cover art picturing an enormous dinosaur destroying a building is testimony to their ironic, but biting attack on institutions, which when translated into music paid homage both to Italy's eccentric singer/songwriter tradition as well as the heretic dialectics of coeval punk. The album was originally released in 1978 on the Cramps label, but not a day seems to have passed since then.

Having worked closely with Karlheinz Stockhausen during the late 1950s, the Irish-born Cornelius Cardew became a major figure on the European avant-garde music scene over the following decade. However, by the early 1970s Cardew had become deeply involved in the international communist movement which created a growing rift between himself and his colleagues (particularly after his book Stockhausen Serves Imperialism was published in 1974). As Cardew's politics changed, so did his music, which began drawing more and more from the populist roots of folk music. On this LP Cardew proposes a series of compositions based on the revolutionary songs of different countries (i.e. the Irish Rebellion of 1798, the Islamic Rebellion of 1937, the uprisings in West Berlin in the early seventies). It is perhaps not surprising that Cardew's new music found a home in Italy of the 1970s (this LP was originally released on the Italian Cramps label), as the Italian Communist Party was extremely strong during this era.

Plushgun is the brainchild of Daniel Ingala and grew out of the cramped confines of his overpriced and undersized bedroom in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. After creating the song Just Impolite and posting it to his MySpace page, the project quickly took off with songs featured in the web-TV series We Need Girlfriends. When he was ready to start playing live shows, Ingala recruited his friends Taylor Armstrong and Matt Bogdanow. Plushgun released their self-titled debut EP this past August, and are now pleased to share their upcoming full-length, Pins and Panzers. As soon as you put it on the stereo, you know youre going to have a good time as the pumping synth lines are a perfect foil to Daniel Ingalas sensitive wordsmith tendencies that work to create addictive indie-pop with a bittersweet edge.

    Disconnect

TV Ghost's third full-length for In The Red, Disconnect is a journey to the center of dreams. The Lafayette, Indiana, band displays a newfound maturity, incorporating churning rhythms and psychedelic drone into a lush torrent of gaseous keys, sprawling guitars and eerie melody. Think Porcupine-era Echo and the Bunnymen and Tago Mago-era Can run through a Cure Pornography blender.

"TV Ghost's 2009 debut LP, Cold Fish, is a maelstrom-10 hectic songs ripped out in 25 minutes. Stuffed to the seams with wiry guitars, trembling keyboards, crashing beats, and Tim Gick's mad-man warble, it has the creepy tension of a post-punk haunted house where the Cramps, the Scientists, or Pere Ubu might leap out from the shadows at any moment. The band deftly balances precision and abandon-every moment sounds lunatic and unhinged, yet no track collapses into complete anarchy.

"That abandon has subsided a bit on Mass Dream, which doubles the length of its predecessor despite having only one more track. That's by design-Gick says that his intent was to "space things out more, let the songs breathe." And while I miss Cold Fish's farther-flung moments, the band has countered that loss with songs that are deeper and more open. Now, along with all the post-punk echoes rattling around, unexpected reference points pop up. At times I hear the enervated drama of Echo & the Bunnymen's Ian McCulloch, or the stridency of Ian Svenonius during his Nation of Ulysses days. And TV Ghost prove as adept at stark dread as they are at fevered bedlam...."

    Beale Street Saturday Night

    Clear Vinyl

Memphis' Beale Street had been a hub of music and activity since the
1860s. As it was being plowed under for "urban renewal" in 1976, James
Luther Dickinson-who had played with The Stones, Ry Cooder and the
Flamin' Groovies (later with Bob Dylan and the Cramps among others), as
well as produced Big Star, Screamin' Jay Hawkins and Alex Chilton (also,
The Replacements, Green On Red, and Mudhoney )-decided to not only
celebrate the legacy of great Memphis music, but make it back into the
place where both the blues and rock 'n' roll originated.

A camaraderie of Memphis musicians, photographers, artists, thespians
and "appropriate weirdos" gathered under Dickinson's direction to record
the heart of Beale Street-past and present. From Furry Lewis and Sleepy
John Estes to Sid Selvidge and Dickinson's own Mud Boy & The Neutrons,
Beale Street Saturday Night is an unparalleled audio trip through Memphis
music history. Recorded in places varying from artists' homes, to Ardent
Studios, to The Orpheum Theatre, Beale Street Saturday Night was originally
created as a fundraiser for the Memphis Development Foundation.
This reissue will serve a similar purpose as a portion of the proceeds will
go to support the radio program Beale Street Caravan which focuses on
    Memphis music, new and old.

    Beale Street
Saturday Night features new liners from Jim Lancaster (who worked on
the original issue) and previously unseen photos. This first ever reissue
of Beale Street Saturday Night was done under the supervision and with
the blessing of the Dickinson family, and it finally makes widely available
this important music and historical Memphis document for new audiences
    to discover.

In 1977, Memphis was officially declared "Home of the Blues" by an act

    Tribal

Last summer Imelda May became a mother for the first time. You might expect her to turn to singing ballads. You would be horribly wrong.

"There are no lullabies on this album," laughs the lady who's brought rockabilly back into fashion sixty years after it was kicked into life by young men like
Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley, Gene Vincent and Jerry Lee Lewis.

"Tribal" is as primal a rock 'n' roll record as you could ever find, infused with the spirit of Sun Studios, where the sound was born in Memphis, Tennessee -
but given a 21st century kick up the butt by a girl from the back streets of Dublin.

Tribal" - her third album, following "Love Tattoo" and the Top Ten hit "Mayhem" - is her punchiest yet.

The songs on "Tribal" are infused with the rebel spirit that launched rock 'n' roll on an unsuspecting world way back in the mid-1950s, but also the rebel
spirit of the punk bands Imelda admired growing up in Dublin in the late 1970s as the youngest of five siblings - The Clash and The Undertones, The
    Buzzcocks and The Cramps.

The motto for the way Imelda lives her life is the title of her new single 'It's Good To Be Alive'. "I wrote it in the early hours of the morning one day after I
had the baby," she reveals. "I was sleep-deprived and feeling very exhausted. I looked out of the window, watched the sun rise through the trees and felt
    - God, it's good to be alive!"

Other song titles sum up Imelda's zest for life. 'It's Good To Be Alive'. 'I Wanna Dance'. 'Wicked Way'. 'Wild Woman'. Especially the latter, with its chorus:
"There's a wild woman livin' inside of me/A wicked, wicked wild woman, dyin' to be free". "You see people toning it down and becoming more responsible
as they get older. But inside, there's still the lunatic inside"

[The music of the Tijuana Panthers] sounds something like they had
spent an afternoon with Jan and Dean sharing fish tacos with Quentin Tarantino, before laying down some 4-track recordings with The
    Cramps in a sunlit garage."
    - LA Weekly

the polished punx in vintage pop-snarlers like the Only Ones, the
    Real Kids, or Generation X."
    -Spin

Live and on record, the Tijuana Panthers are a great band. You
could say garage, punk or surf while describing their sound, but
they're harder to pin than that. The truth is that they write classic
songs that don't depend on tropes from any genre. They craft perfect
pop and deliver it with energy and immediacy. However, the real
magic of this band is in their weirdness.

Behind their picturesque portraits of daily life is an aching despair.
This subtle contrast creates an eerie tension between the ideal, the
real and the surreal. You suddenly realize they're not the happy-golucky beach boys you tried to pin them as, but more akin to sexually
frustrated soda jerks in a David Lynch film. And this all makes sense
with the fact that they come from Southern California's shadier city
of Long Beach, not exactly the fun in the sun that California dreamers might expect.

For Wayne Interest, the Panthers team up with producer Richard
Swift. The recordings took place at Swift's studio in Oregon where
the band decidedly took risks in performance and production. The
risks paid off. With Swift's direction and upgrade in fidelity, Wayne
Interest sounds just as compelling in headphones as it would at a
house party in East LA. It also gives the listener a closer look at the
idiosyncrasies of the Tijuana Panthers, only making it clearer that
there's something off about these creeps. Their weirdness, or boldness to be whoever they may be, is what makes this band great. It's
a rare quality. The more you listen to the Tijuana Panthers the more
    you wonder about them.

    BBC The Radiophonic Workshop

    180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl

    Remastered

Available On Vinyl For The 1st Time

The BBC Radiophonic Workshop, set up in 1958, was originally created as a sound effects unit for BBC Radio and TV programs. Pioneering new forms of drama during the late 1950s and early 60s demanded innovative and original use ofmusic and sound. The art of what became known as sounddesign began in the cramped undergroundstudiosof the Radiophonic Workshop at the BBC Maida Vale complex in London. Their early explorations into sound drew on the principles of musique concrete, early tape manipulation techniques and primitive oscillators and tone circuits built by technicians at the workshop. As technology developed and the synthesizer, tape technology, computers and early digital sampling emerged the Radiophonic Workshop maintained an their position at the leading edge of electronic music and sound design.

The vast body of work that emerged between 1960 and 1997 has influenced generations of musicians both within electronica and more widely in the Rock, Progressive and Pop field. Groundbreaking work such as Delia' Darbyshire's 1963 Doctor Who Theme (still the high water mark of experimental music), sound effects albums, works of early electronica and popular favourites such as Blake's 7 and The Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy have ensured the RWS a place at electronica's top table. From the Beatles, Pink Floyd and Vangelis to Orbital, The Chemical Brothers and beyond, their legacy lives on in the sounds and textures of so much contemporary music. But it isn't just musicians who have drawn on their work.

The technical development of the studio and modern recording techniques owes them a great debt too. Sound engineer Roger Mayer, who supplied effects pedals to Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix, is just one of many engineers for whom their work proved inspirational. He described the Workshop as, ''the great unsung heroes of British electronica.''

These two records, recorded in 1968 and 1975 respectively, were released at the height of The Radiophonic Workshop's influence. They showcase the dawning of processed sound, treated sounds and sound design.

Quirky and irreverent BBC Radiophonic Music was originally put out as a specialist demonstration library disc for BBC drama producers. In 1971 the BBC released it commercially. This is the first time it has been made available on vinyl in its first and original form.

The Radiophonic Workshop from 1975 was a compilation of the best-known of the Radiophonic Workshop's output to date. This is the first time it has seen a vinyl reissue in its original form.

Both albums have been remastered for vinyl from the original tapes by the Radiophonic Workshop's archivist Mark Ayres. Pressed on 180 gram audiophile vinyl.

    Only In Dreams

On several levels, Dum Dum Girls second full length Only in Dreams is a great leap forward for a gifted songwriter and an equally gifted band. It's heavy, deeply personal stuff and surely unprecedented for this style of music. The first record was basically the first songs I'd ever written, says band-leader Dee Dee, and I was thinking nostalgically about being a teenager. This record, it was pretty much impossible not to write about very recent, very real things.

Very real things indeed: Dee Dee wrote Hold Your Hand immediately after her mother (the pretty lady on the cover of both the Dum Dum Girls' self-titled 2009 debut EP and their 2010 debut album I Will Be) was diagnosed with what turned out to be a fatal illness, and it's one of several songs on Only in Dreams that unsparingly trace her mom's passing. Other songs spell out the emotional toll of separation from one's lover, something Dee Dee had to deal with while she and her husband (Brandon Welchez of the acclaimed noise-pop band Crocodiles) pursued their own tour schedules.

Only in Dreams more than fulfills the promise of 2011s acclaimed and fast-selling He Gets Me High EP. It retains Dum Dum Girls' signature blend of the girl-gang eyeliner punk of the Shangri-Las, the trashy propulsion of the Cramps, and the moody atmospherics of Mazzy Star, but for the first time, all four Dum Dum Girls play and sing on the album. Now the harmonies have more depth, Jules plays her own distinctive guitar leads, and the Bambi (bass)/Sandy (drums) rhythm section powers the music like a vintage V-8 engine. Best of all, tons of time on the road, including two massively successful headlining tours, have molded Dum Dum Girls into a very formidable rock & roll band, giving the music an undeniable force.

And now that power and glory is showcased by full-on studio production, while I Will Be was recorded at home and modestly spiffed up in a studio by legendary pop maestro Richard Gottehrer (Blondie, Go-Go's), Only in Dreams was recorded at Josh Homme's Pink Duck Studios, and Gottehrer again produced, this time with Sune Rose Wagner from the Raveonettes.

Only in Dreams represents a musical evolution for Dum Dum Girls and a personal one for Dee Dee, and that's no coincidence. I'm for real, she says. We all are. I'm really passionate about this, it's all I know. And maybe we've just grown up a bit, or grown out a bit. There's some weight to what we do, and a pure intent, and I think that comes across on this album.

No One Dances Quite Like My Brothers

Vår is the project of four best friends from Copenhagen. Each member of
the band is involved in several other Danish bands and all four members
are also accomplished visual artists. What began as the extremely lo-fi
two-piece of Elias Rønnenfelt and Loke Rahbek recording on 4-track has
evolved into an experimental noise/ industrial/ techno pop quartet. On
this album Vår utilize everything from acoustic guitar, power electronics,
bass, trumpet, multi-tracked vocals, and various percussive instruments, to
broken glass & sheet metal samples. No One Dances Quite Like My Brothers
is a remarkable debut, an emotional roller coaster of sorts which at times
is profoundly uplifting, at times decidedly morose but remains unfailingly moving throughout.

Holing up in the extremely cramped and oft over-heated quarters of Sean
Ragon's self-built studio in the back of his Bushwick record store Heaven
Street, the band wrote and recorded their first full length during two
intense weeks last summer. Exploring themes of love, loss, vanity, hope,
fear, sexuality and friendship and drawing more on literary influences
than musical ones (Bataille and Shaffer, specifically), the band craft an
album which cannot be confined by any singular sub-genre. Words like
"industrial" and "electronic" fall short here; they barely begin to scratch
the surface of this work. This is soundtrack music for a play that has only
begun to be imagined and is light years away from being consummated

    Improvisation

    Import

The godfather of improvisational guitar, Derek Bailey's praises have been sung far and wide by everyone from Pat Metheny to Karlheinz Stockhausen for having revolutionized the way the instrument was played over the last half of the twentieth century. Although fans are often frustrated by the low-fidelity of his earlier recordings, this 1975 LP (originally released on the Italian avant-garde label, Cramps), stands out in that regard. Recorded in an actual studio (unlike most of his early work) in Milan, for this session Bailey was apparently asked by his Italian hosts to define "improvisation". He then proceeded to give his answer in the form of these fourteen tracks (eight performed with electric guitar, five with six-string acoustic guitar, and one with a 19-string acoustic guitar).

In the summer of 2014, No Doubt s Tony Kanal [bass], Tom Dumont [guitar], and Adrian Young [drums] and singer Davey Havok [AFI, Blakq Audio] began writing and demoing music together. Without telling a soul outside of their significant others, the four musicians clandestinely moved into a cramped downtown Los Angeles rehearsal spot and revved up what would become DREAMCAR. The result of this collaboration is their self-titled debut album, DREAMCAR, produced by Tim Pagnotta [Neon Trees], with whom the band found a kindred spirit.

The band's name actually reflects their ambitions. DREAMCAR speaks to a nostalgia, but as much as it speaks to the past, it also speaks to the present and the future, singer Davey Havok says. It mirrors hopes, aspirations, and attaining the unattainable. I would hope the songs do the same thing. Rife with shimmering guitar tones, percussive slap bass, bombastic drums, and a neon-lit dancefloor dreaminess, DREAMCAR gleefully nods to the decade of Boy George and Back to the Future through a kaleidoscope of wisdom earned from three decades creating and connecting with fans worldwide.

The first single Kill For Candy instantly enchants with its upbeat energy and sweet, saccharine chant punctuated by a twisting and turning guitar and driving rhythms. The album swings between the Frankie Goes To Hollywood-style risquÉ spoken narrative of On The Charts to the delicate longing of the synth-washed Slip On The Moon where Havok pleads, Just look for me, I will look for you. Born To Lie builds from a breathy verse into an expansive refrain, while the opener After I Confess sees his hypnotic and haunting vocal soar over airy and open soundscapes. Ultimately, it's that combination of delectable and dangerous which will leave listeners everywhere satisfied. This is a big moment for us, Kanal leaves off. It's a new beginning. We can't wait to perform the songs live.

Charlie Is My Darling: Ireland 1965

ABKCO Films presents a meticulously restored and full-realized version of this first-ever, legendary, but never released film. Shot during a quick tour of Ireland just weeks after (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction hit #1 on the charts, The Rolling Stones Charlie Is My Darling - Ireland is an intimate, behind-the-scenes diary of life on the road with the young Stones. It features the first professionally filmed concert performances of the band and documents the early frenzy of their fans and the riots the band's appearances inspired. The band is shown traveling through the Irish countryside by train; dashing from cabs to cramped, basement dressing rooms through screaming hordes of fans. Motel rooms host impromptu songwriting sessions and familiar classics are heard in their infancy as riff and lyric are united. Charlie Is My Darling is the invaluable frame that captures the spark about to combust into The Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World!
