Hidden CityWhen Rolling Stone hailed THE CULT as "the Messianic moment of Coachella" in 2014, few knew that their next release would be unveiled in the form of HIDDEN CITY, their tenth studio album (and second for Cooking Vinyl).
The final instalment in a trilogy of recordings, completing 2007's Born Into This (The Fall) and 2012's Choice of Weapon (Dark Night of the Soul), Hidden City is a tightly-woven series of experience and visions with underlying themes of redemption and rebirth threaded through The Cult's visceral music. Astbury's signature baritone and blood-soaked lyrics paired with Duffy's smouldering, textured guitar tones, create a musical environment that is fearless and peerless.
From the sonic assault of the opening track Dark Energy, Hidden City launches quickly into the dark underbelly of its subject matter. Stemming from the Spanish phrase "La Ciudad Oculta" or "hidden city," the album reflects an awakening of consciousness through its tone and complexity. "Hidden City is a metaphor for our spiritual lives our intimate interior lives," explains Astbury. "I find today's gurus are trying to peddle some cure, product or insight as if it's a new phenomenon. My place is to respond, not react, to observe, participate and share through words and music. There is no higher authority than the heart."
Produced by Bob Rock and written by Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy the team has collaborated on what has turned out to be the brutal and beautiful masterpiece Hidden City.
The Cult have revealed in a storied career. From the iconic Love album bursting with idealism to the dystopia of 2001's Beyond Good & Evil to the current seductive Hidden City, the band lives their art. A new chapter dawns for The Cult as the future unfolds The Cult will respond. It's what they do.

Pure Cult Singles CompilationReleased domestically for the first time, remastered and with reworked art. Pure Cult is a definitive compilation, bringing together all of The Cult's singles such as She Sells Sanctuary, Fire Woman and more.
The Cult, unlike its predecessor bands the Southern Death Cult and the Death Cult, was unapologetic about its mainstream rock & roll aspirations, which makes Pure Cult the best possible starting place for the group. The Cult was a singles band, and a pretty great one, too, as evidenced by the Stones-like Love Removal Machine and the blazing Fire Woman.
The ensemble's mixture of '60s influences and hard-rock power helped define a whole subset of the late-'80s alternative-rock scene, and it's fair to say that groups like Stone Temple Pilots owed at least some of their success to the Cult's early flirtations with the rock mainstream. Pure Cult gives a good sense of the band's surprisingly organic shift in sound, ranging from the gothy neo-psychedelia of She Sells Sanctuary to the sneering rock of Star.1. She Sells Sanctuary

CultsOn the surface they could be sickly sweet, a smitten duo called Brian Oblivion and Madeline Follin who spin gorgeous melodies across their girl group-inspired bedroom pop. But dig deeper and a whole new world opens up, one that contains songs about apprehension, substance abuse and the pain of moving from adolescence into adulthood. Oh, and those inspirational, moving speeches that appear, ghost-like, behind the music? Theyre from a selection of notorious cult leaders.
A lot of our songs are about what were going through right now, the fear of growing up and facing adult responsibility, says Brian. And in a way that fear is what makes people join cults in the first place, wanting to escape competition and success and be a part of something bigger, communal. We also want to live our own lives with our own schedules and expectations, so in a way this band has become our own cult. - CultSide 1

BXISouthern Lord presents the incredible collaboration between label artists Boris and Ian Astbury (The Cult). The finely-crafted four-song release, entitled BXI, was tracked and mixed in Tokyo in April of 2010. Astbury's iconic rock vocals are a perfect match for Boris' straightforward, laid-back, but still raw and imaginative songwriting constructed for the EP; another intriguing display within the band's ever-morphing, extensive resume of releases, tours and collaborations.
BXI showcases the already unclassifiable rock of Boris in an entirely new light, and shows a new side of one of rock and roll's most notorious singers. The release features three new original tracks, as well as a cover of The Cult's song Rain, ethereally vocalized by Boris guitarist Wata. Art and design for the release was created by Stephen O'Malley.1. Teeth and Claws

OfferingCults made their name in black and white. A pair of film school dropouts who burst onto the New York scene with a perfect single and a darkly retro sound, the band's first two albums play like noirish documentaries on a lost girl group. Four years after Static, Cults returns with Offering, an exciting collection of songs bursting with heart, confidence, shimmering melody and buzzing life. The time off has given the band new energy and new ideas--Cults are working in Technicolor now. The core duo remains the same. Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion, both 28, still live in New York. They still finish each other's thoughts and still share a love of catchy music and black humor. But the pair have put some blood on the tracks since their breakout debut: they've toured the world, built a devoted audience, survived a breakup, grown up in green rooms, parted ways with their old label and made a home of their new one. Offering is the work of two artists who know what they want and how to make it happen.1. Offering

Electric PeaceElectric is the pivotal third album by The Cult. Released in 1987, the album marked a deliberate stylistic change in the band from a Gothic rock to a hard rock band. Rick Rubin, the producer on Electric, had been specifically hired to remake the band's sound in an effort to capitalize on the popularity of hard rock and heavy metal in the 1980s. The album was featured in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
After the breakthrough success of their second album, Love, the Cult began working on a follow-up with producer Steve Brown. In the summer of 1986, they recorded twelve tracks at the Manor Studio in Oxfordshire. These recordings, which came to be known as the Manor Sessions, were to make up a new album, tentatively entitled Peace. However, upon completion of the recording sessions, the band decided that they were unhappy with the sound, and began to look for a new producer.
The band went on to choose Rick Rubin, who was known for producing albums for hip hop artists and thrash metal band Slayer. These new recordings, with a slightly different track-list and running order, became the album that was released.
Although all twelve of the Manor Sessions tracks were initially scrapped, four of them would turn up as B-sides to singles from Electric. A further five of them appeared on a limited edition EP, and with the release of Rare Cult in 2000, the rest of the unreleased Steve Brown-produced tracks were made available.Wild Flower

Choice of Weapon (Awaiting Repress)The Cult's newest album Choice of Weapon is the follow up to the critically-acclaimed 2007 release Born Into This which Mojo magazine called "a wholehearted, utopian and irrefutably exciting record." Long-time Cult collaborator and producer Bob Rock (Metallica, Bush), who produced one of the band's most successful albums in the platinum-certified Sonic Temple, put the finishing touches on the foundations that were laid by co-producer Chris Goss (Queens of the Stone Age, U.N.K.L.E., Masters of Reality).
The record was written by Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy, recorded in New York City, Los Angeles, the California high desert, and the band's Witch Mountain studios in the Hollywood Hills between July and December of 2011. The new release features founding members Astbury on vocals and Duffy on guitars, with drummer John Tempesta and bassist Chris Wyse. "We have had the opportunity to work with two of the most influential and talented producers in the world today," said Astbury. "They pushed us beyond our comfort zone, and helped us craft Choice of Weapon.'"
The album is aimed at the heart of The Cult's loyal following. It reflects the current discontent and destruction of our eco systems, the search for individual meaning against a tide of rampant materialism, narcissism and disconnected lives. "We went deeper, we worked a bit harder on this record. We have great fans and they deserve our best," added Duffy, "and I feel this is one of our best records, maybe the best."1. Honey from a Knife

Reservoir Dogs SoundtrackImport
25th Anniversary Edition
Could you think of any other film producer that picks better soundtracks than the widely revered Quentin Tarantino? Inventing a genre on his own, his string of best-selling nouvelle violence movies started out in 1992 with the low budget cult classic Reservoir Dogs.
The film follows a band of criminals preparing for a diamond heist and follows the characters in the crime's aftermath. Its cast consists of sublime actors such as Harvey Keitel (whose comeback was a direct result of this film), Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Chris Penn (Sean's brother) and Steve Buscemi as the legendary character of Mr. Pink. The film's sparkling dialog catapulted Reservoir Dogs to eternal cult status and remains a favorite among movie fans all over the world, a fame to which its soundtrack contributed a great deal.
Music On Vinyl is proud to release these so-called 'Super Sounds Of The Seventies', a selection of unusual and sometimes wacky hits by artists such as Stealers Wheel, Harry Nilsson (Coconut is included on Nilsson Schmilsson [MOVLP279]) and Joe Tex. The movie also raised public interest in the Dutch band George Baker Selection, due to the use of his Little Green Bag in the film's opening titles. Keep On Truckin'!

The B-52sNumbered Limited Edition
Ranked 152/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Delightfully Campy, Intentionally Goofy, Lyrically Kitschy: 1979 Set Is Nothing But a Good Time
Mastered on Mobile Fidelitys World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI (America's Best Record Plant): LP Bursts Forth With the Color and Vibrancy of the Brilliant Pop Within
Boffo! Beehive hairdos, goofy sci-fi humor, lava-lamp kitsch, thrift-store fashions, party-starting tunes, unconventional perspectives, and the unique blending of the underground aesthetic with mainstream accessibility: The B-52s mix all this and more into a dizzying cocktail on their self-titled debut, which remains one of the most ahead-of-its-time, endlessly enjoyable, and vividly colorful albums ever released.
The B-52s has its roots in the bands improbable genesis, itself reflective of the records gleeful moods and quirky charms. The five members first played after sharing a tropical alcoholic beverage at a Chinese restaurant, the ironic silliness and spontaneous irreverence indicative of the music on its breakthrough record. Not to mention how it mirrors the unusual hodgepodge of instrumentation: organs, walkie talkies, bongos, glockenspiels, tambourines, toy pianos, smoke alarms, and more!
Musically, the band proves just as adventurous and whimsical. Using pleasant harmonies as a backdrop and Kate Piersons squealing organ as a starting point, the B-52s draw upon surf-rock grooves, beach-bound soul-pop, herky-jerky funk riffs, minimalist rhythms, and Ricky Wilsons unusual guitar lines to craft songs that tower above the sarcastic suggestiveness and campy declarations. Of course, the latter are plenty entertaining on their own, but theres no denying the dance-bound persuasiveness and melodic shimmy associated with the classic cult single Rock Lobster and splendid cover of the ubiquitous Petula Clark standard Downtown. Youve never heard anything like this.
Indeed, the B-52s were about a decade ahead of the alt-rock revolution when they recorded this delightfully campy, intentionally goofy, lyrically tawdry, and undeniably harmonic 1979 new-wave set that comes off as the best dance party you might ever hear. This is 40 minutes of nothing but a good time.
Mastered on Mobile Fidelitys world-renowned mastering system and pressed at RTI (America's best record plant), Silver Label numbered limited edition LP presents the B-52s brilliant debut in a fidelity its never previously enjoyed. So detailed and realistic are the timbres, accents, and harmonies, youll think the bands bright outfits are appearing right in front of you. Plus, the LP is worth the cost alone for the iconic album cover, which spotlights those bouffant dos.

xx (pronounced multiply) is the second studio album by English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran.
Ed Sheeran is blessed - he seems to know exactly where he is going, and exactly how to get there. Where countless others fail to make an impression amid today's information overload, Ed's music and talent cut straight through.
He has a poise that is as welcome as it is unusual in someone so young. He's both utterly self-assured but still charmingly open. He has a confidence that's built not on being able to sing someone else's song quite nicely on a teatime TV show, but on hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of gigs where it's just him, his guitar, a loop pedal and a crowd.
Ed grew up in Suffolk where he learnt to play an old guitar given to him by an uncle. Spurred on by a chance meeting with the aforementioned Rice when he was 11, Ed started writing songs. Aged 16, he moved to London - into a flat above the T-Bird pub in Finsbury Park - with only one thing on his mind: playing gigs, as many as he could and as often as he could.
One night Ed played a tiny bar in North London whose website listed every young promoter in town. That night Ed Myspaced them all and a few days later he had nearly a hundred new gigs lined up. A pattern began to emerge - all day in the studio, all night playing gigs. From the early days Ed would sell CDs of his songs out of his backpack, putting cash in his pocket to get to the next gig, but also planting a flag in people's minds that here was music that was worth paying for. Not satisfied by CDs alone, fans have flocked to his website to pick up everything from hoodies to jewellery.
When Ed was told by his then management that he would need to conform to succeed - including dying his hair, and giving up his unique delivery - Ed responded by writing the cult song, 'You Need Me, I Don't Need You'. Over the next year he released five EPs, each one totally different, each one totally him. There was a singer-songwriter one, a live from The Bedford one, one written with singer Amy Wadge. Each sold better than the last.
After two years of constant gigging and sofa surfing, Ed recorded a live version of 'You Need Me, I Don't Need You' for leading urban YouTube channel, SBTV. The clip got 100K hits in two days and is now approaching 1.5M views. A few days later, he wrote what would become his first major label release, 'The A Team': a story about a girl he met whilst working at a homeless shelter. The video for that has just surpassed 1M views.
By the time Ed released the final EP - No. 5 Collaborations, which featured the who's who of UK hip hop and grime: Devlin, Wretch 32, Dot Rotten, P Money, JME and Wiley, the support was so strong it propelled Ed to Number 2 in the iTunes album chart after just 24 hours. The only artist selling more copies was Rihanna. When Elton John called his mobile to congratulate him, Ed realised quite how big things had got. Amid interest from numerous labels Ed shortly signed with Asylum - part of Atlantic Records.LP 1

StaticThe bright and polished New York indie-pop duo Cults gave us a promising self-titled debut a couple of years ago, and now they're set to follow it up with a second album called Static. This time around, Shane Stoneback, the man who produced that debut album, shares production duties with Ben Allen, who most famously helmed Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion (and who's also behind Washed Out's forthcoming sophomore effort Paracosm).
As a press bio states, Static is a breakup album. (The band's members, Brian Oblivion and Madeline Follin, were a couple when the project began in 2010.) Oblivion described the meaning of Static in the bio: There's a feeling our generation has. The feeling there's always something better around the corner, that everyone is born to be a star. Cult Of LunaOriginally released in 2001, this is a highly sought after reissue of the self-titled debut album from atmospheric doom maestros Cult Of Luna. The debut record garnered critical appreciation and underground popularity for the Scandinavian 8-piece. The debut is an oddity in the discography, due to a larger hardcore punk and doom metal influence and is substantially heavier than their later material. Later releases 'Salvation' and 'Somewhere Along The Highway' are deservingly regarded as the two best albums post-metal has to offer but this debut no doubt contains some of the band's best work.LP 1
