    Live At Hammersmith (Awaiting Repress)

England's most distinctive, multiple award-winning, platinum-selling, hugely entertaining rock gods The Darkness have announced the release of their live album The Darkness - Live At Hammersmith, set for release via Cooking Vinyl.

The album captures The Darkness on sterling form at their iconic London headline show at the Eventim Hammersmith Apollo in December last year. In true Darkness spandex-clad fashion it featured huge riffs, mighty bass faces, seismic drumming, hair-raising falsetto, Justin Hawkins acrobatics, gigantic disco balls and a whole lotta pyro.

The Darkness - Live At Hammersmith spans their spectacular back catalog of five albums across 19 incendiary tracks.

Regarding the live album Justin says, "The Darkness is untamed. It cannot be caged. Some very clever recording engineers have discovered a way to capture its essence; all that remains is for us to release it back into the wild.

"Life is about experiences, not possessions. This is your opportunity to possess the experience of The Darkness Live, as perceived by your ears, leaving your eyes free to scan the road ahead for obstacles, or to watch Emmerdale with the sound off, or to mould clay, or to darn socks, or to look at the beautiful artwork in this magnificent gatefold. Release yourself into The Darkness - Live at Hammersmith."

The Darkness headlined Hammersmith as part of their extensive Tour De Prance, in support of their latest critically acclaimed Top 10 album Pinewood Smile. The tour saw the band sell out shows across the UK and Europe last year. They are currently on a mammoth 27-date tour of the US, Canada and Mexico.

    Speed Of Darkness

Speed of Darkness, the follow-up to 2008's Float is punk ensemble Flogging Molly's fifth and arguably most important album to date. In the words of lead singer/songwriter Dave King, It wasn't the album we set out to write. It became the album we had to write. Speed of Darkness, produced by Ryan Hewitt (RHCP, The Avett Brothers) was written in Detroit, MI and takes a hard-nosed look at the economic collapse in the U.S. and the causes and the direct effect it has had on everyday people. The Motor City serves as the album's muse and a painful example of what has gone wrong. While Speed of Darkness attacks much of the greed and ignorance responsible for where we are, the album also delivers a message of hope, humanity and the resilience of mankind.

From their beginnings as a raucous pub band in Los Angeles in the late 1990's, the band has worn their blue collar ethos proudly and loudly, most notably during their incredible live performances. And now, as the country and the rest of the world rise up to recover and rebuild, never has that ethos been more apparent and important than on Speed of Darkness. The album, like Flogging Molly itself, is a testament to youth and resilience, to growing old and the wisdom of scars, and yet for all of the record's darkness and the speed with which it descends, the ultimate theme is one of light: we can preserve and we will.

    Rays of Darkness

"One of the most distinctive bands of
    the 21st Century." - Pitchfork

"MONO have now well and truly
sealed their place in the pantheon of
    rock history." - Rock Sound

When MONO began in 1999, they set out with a simple mission:
From bliss to bludgeon, no matter how long or winding the path
may be. Their debut album, Under The Pipal Tree, outlined that
mission in twisted, psychedelic fury. Subsequent albums would see
the band honing their craft, mastering their mission, and ultimately
abandoning that path in favor of more grandiose pursuits. Flanked
by increasingly larger orchestras, MONO performed live at some of
the most prestigious venues in New York City, London, Tokyo, and
Australia. MONO had become an orchestral rock band, a spectacle
of extreme melancholy and melodrama. By 2012's For My Parents,
the band had finally reached the logical conclusion of that era; it
was time to remember where they started, and to rethink where
they were heading. Less strings? No strings? Louder? Quieter?
    Lighter? Darker? Yes.

The Last Dawn and Rays of Darkness are a pair of new albums by
MONO. Recorded simultaneously yet conceptually and creatively
disparate, the two act as both opposing and complementary sides
to a story. No strangers to narratives, the twin albums explore
familiar themes for the band: Hope and hopelessness, love and
loss, immense joy and unspeakable pain. Those elemental parts of
life and the complicated relationships they create have never been
more resonant through MONO's music than they are here.

Rays of Darkness is the first MONO album in 15 years to feature
no orchestral instruments whatsoever. That fact alone is
remarkable given the band's reputation for sweeping, dramatic
instrumentals that recall Oscar-worthy film scores. Instead, Rays of
Darkness more closely resembles a jet engine taking off inside a
small, crowded auditorium. It is MONO's blackest album ever, a
collection of scorched riffs, doom rhythms, and an unexpected
contribution from post-hardcore pioneer Tetsu Fukagawa of Envy.
The album ends with the smoldering wreckage of distorted guitars
and ominous drones playing out a eulogy to the days when MONO
shot blinding rays of light through seemingly endless darkness.

    Every Color Of Darkness

It has been four years since Guillermo S. Herren released
anything significant from his most famous and respected
moniker, Prefuse 73 (though he did keep busy with live
shows, collaborations, and remixes). That's a long time for
virtually any artist, but it's an eternity for Herren, whose first
three Prefuse 73 albums dropped in the span of four years.
As if to make up for lost time, 2015 will see the release of
not one, but three major works from Prefuse 73. After
several albums that saw Herren progressively drift away
from the beatmaking prowess that made him synonymous
with emotionally resonant, damaged hip-hop, he's found
himself reinvigorated - thanks in large part to an emotionally
draining, creatively cashed few years. As Herren puts it, I've
come back to hyper focusing - immersing myself in the
sounds, rhythms, and formations that created Prefuse 73 in
the first place. Recently, I've found a new life in the whole
process of refining what I've created over the years as
"Prefuse". Right now I'm at my most confident and
    comfortable since 05/06.

It shows. The conclusion of a triptych of new recordings,
Every Color of Darkness basks in the darkest corners of
Prefuse 73's world, finding an eerie romanticism in manic
beats and damaged jazz. It's a record that showcases his
uncanny ability to excavate and exploit a source of light
    buried in pitch black.

For an artist who has played an undeniably integral role in
the careers of so many influential artists - from MF Doom
to Battles to Flying Lotus - it's not just refreshing to hear
him return to top form...it's revelatory.

Produced by Britt Daniel of Spoon, this eponymous debut perfectly captures the band's strong pop sensibility also found on their debut long-player, Fear Is On Our Side from earlier this year. Included among the EP's five tracks is the live favorite and venerable set closer Your Worst Is The Best, which features dueling vocals over a chiming Rhodes and epic guitar lines. Initially released in 2003 by Emperor Jones, this EP is now available worldwide from Secretly Canadian.

The double live album Dark Magus was recorded on March 30, 1974, at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Davis' group at the time included bassist Michael Henderson, drummer Al Foster, percussionist James Mtume, saxophonist Dave Liebman, and guitarists Pete Cosey and Reggie Lucas. Dark Magus was produced by Teo Macero and featured four two-part recordings titled after Swahili names for the numbers one through four.

Dark Magus was released after Davis' 1975 retirement. After releasing the live recordings Agharta (1975) and Pangaea (1976), Dark Magus was originally only released in Japan.

The album inspired noise Rock acts during the late 1970s and the experimental Funk artists of the 1980s. In retrospective reviews, critics praised its Jazz-Rock aesthetic and the group members' performances, and felt that parts of the music foreshadowed jungle music. In 2001, Q magazine named Dark Magus one of the 50 Heaviest Albums of All Time.

Dark Magus was recorded at Carnegie Hall in 1974, but went unreleased until 1977, when it was put out in Japan only. As a result, these stunning live recordings have been incredibly hard to find on vinyl, until now! These are some of the heaviest, and headiest, tracks Miles Davis ever cut, and his band is in top form. Absolutely classic and essential electric jazz fusion from the dude that invented the genre. Recorded live at the infamous Dark Lord Day Festival at Three Floyds Brewing (one of the best breweries in the world) in Munster, Indiana. 700 on limited pink vinyl with gatefold & poster. Christened by PUNKnews as Born Against covering Black Sabbath, Sweet Cobra is the sound of friends scuffing up their hardcore roots with classic rock grit and classic metal fury. Parallels can be drawn to Torche's rapturous hooks, High On fire's hellbound riffing, and Young Widow's stomping rhythms, but Sweet Cobra has always rocked with it's own unique voice, & anthemic songs that are equally pummeling and trance-inducing. Founded in Chicago in 2002, Sweet Cobra has toured with Russian Circles, Pelican, Black Cobra, and Young Widows. Split label release with Hawthorne Street/Three Floyds Brewing.

    Fun In The Dark

What we have here is a complete re-imagining of a classic Groovie Ghoulies full length recording, as interpreted by the tough, melodic band from the Netherlands. Fans of the original album, Accelerators used to play Fun In the Dark (the song) in their live set, and augmented it even more when I came over to do some shows with them in Europe. The same sort of thing has happened with the band the Copyrights and the Groovie Ghoulies album Re-Animation Festival (but that's another story that you will hear about in the future!).

    Live

Sundazed Music is proud to present a genuine psychedelic landmark: Live by Moby Grape, the first official collection of concert recordings by the legendary San Francisco band at its blazing late-Sixties peak. At that time, in rock's hippest city, there was no other band like the original Grape: Jerry Miller, Skip Spence, Bob Mosley, Peter Lewis and Don Stevenson. Their Columbia debut LP, Moby Grape, issued in June 1967, is still acclaimed as one of the greatest rock albums evera thrilling union of blues, soul, country, surf twang and day-glo garage rock, packed into original killer-pop songwriting. Even as extreme Columbia hype, devastating business hassles and Spence's tragic mental collapse threatened to blow up the band, the Grape continued to make immortal albums, including 1968's Wow and the magnificent Moby Grape '69.

But the records told only half of the tale. Moby Grape, in their prime, were also one of the Bay Area'sand America'sbest stage bands, like the Beatles and Rolling Stones in one, with a breathtaking triple-guitar attack and stunning vocal harmonies.

Live is the long-awaited proof. It features more than an hour of dynamite performances from soundboard and broadcast tapes, including tracks from the Avalon Ballroom in 1967 and the band's complete long-lost set at the Monterey Pop Festival, just a week after Moby Grape came out. There are live versions of the great rare Grape songs Rounder and Looper and five tracks from a famous Dutch radio show featuring the hard-charging '69 lineup of Miller, Mosley, Lewis and Stevenson.

And Live climaxes with the historic first-ever release of Spence's acid-guitar masterpiece Dark Magicnever recorded in the studio by the original band but presented here in an epic 17-minute performance at the Avalon, on New Year's Eve 1966. Moby Grape were the hottest band in town that night, with the whole rock & roll world ahead of them. And they sound like it. These four-decade-old recordings have been spectacularly mastered, in you-are-there fidelity, and this album comes with sumptuous packaging and rare photos, in true Sundazed style, plus liner notes by Rolling Stone writer and Moby Grape authority David Fricke. Live presents, at last, the untold part of Moby Grape's incredible story. It is San Francisco psychedelia at its zenith and the best historical rock release of the year.

    Dark Night Of The Soul

This musical DNA has been in Jimbo Mathus since birth. His father and relatives
were all skilled musicians who filled the house with old folk, country and blues
tunes. By the age of eight, Mathus was joining them on mandolin and by his
teenage years had learned guitar and piano. High school led to playing in punk
and new wave bands, the most notable being Johnny Vomit and the Dry Heaves
and The End, with future Oblivian Jack Yarber. Post high school, Mathus studied
Philosophy at Mississippi State University before leaving to travel around
America. In doing so he worked various jobs, including an influential stint as
a barge tankerman on the mighty Mississippi River. Settling in Chapel Hill,
N.C., he drummed in the cult rock band Metal Flake Mother prior to starting
the Squirrel Nut Zippers. This ahead-of-its-time retro roots band scored a hit
with "Hot" and performed at President Clinton's second Inauguration and the
1996 Summer Olympics. Following the Zippers' split, Mathus worked with such
noted artists such as Buddy Guy and Elvis Costello, and collaborated with North
Mississippi Allstars guitarist Luther Dickinson and Alvin Youngblood Hart in the
South Memphis String Band. He also recorded his own albums (including one
dedicated to his childhood nanny Rosetta Patton, the daughter of Delta blues
    icon Charley Patton).

On most of 'Dark Night's' tracks, Mathus' acoustic guitar is surrounded by
the electric guitar played by his longtime sideman Matt Pierce and pal Eric
"Roscoe" Ambel. (Ambel produced 'White Buffalo' but on 'Dark Night' he focuses
exclusively on his righteous guitar playing.) The album's raw, rock sound arose
from the fact that most of the tracks were recorded live in the studio with
Mathus' band, the Tri-State Coalition, which he found "very liberating way of
doing it." Mathus feels very in synch with his bandmates (keyboardist Eric
Carlton, drummer Ryan Rogers, guitarist Pierce and guest bassist and Drive By
Trucker Matt Patton) since they have played together now for several years.
"The intensity you're hearing on this album," he proclaims, "is the spirit of a
band that is put ting it's shit on the line ."

    A Walk in the Dark

So, enter the label's latest LP from Mind Fair's housier alias The Central Executives, whose project could've formed weeks ago, or perhaps be unearthed recordings from a loft party that went a few weeks longer than planned back in '87. But regardless of when it was actually recorded, there's a live-recorded exuberance that's part Arthur Russell, part ACT UP protest, part disco-punk ensemble ironing out the kinks in their act in some Queens basement with black mould spreading all around the ceiling.Golf Channel has called this record "the back street escapism these troubled times demand"- and maybe escapism is the word that encapsulates the timeless anonymity of my favourite Golf Channel offerings. In any case, A Walk in the Dark is an absolute burner of an LP - there's not a single moment on it that doesn't reveal something new with every listen, and for all its retro influences, it's still packed with surprises. It's the gruff bodega owner who starts smiling at you after figuring out that you're queer, but only when no one else is around. It's smoking inside, it's someone's radio blaring out the window, it's Broadway before Disney bought out all the bars - it's New York.

When Cohen became known as a musician in his late 30s with his albums Songs Of Leonard Cohen and the sophomore Songs From A Room, people were surprised that his music seemed to come out fully formed.

Many were familiar with his work as an author and poet, but did not know that he had been a musician for most of his life. For Cohen, making music was another way to bring his poetry to the people. The dark thrall of his songs portray an artist that is ever able to trace the hidden contours of love, lust, sex, religion, politics and history.

Live Songs was released in 1973; Cohen's fourth album was a collection of recordings made at a number of concerts in Europe between 1970 and 1973. The collection consists of songs from 1969's Songs From A Room, such as 'Bird On A Wire', 'Story of Isaak' and a new version of 'Seems So Long Ago, Nancy' (now simply dubbed 'Nancy'), and a number of new songs.

The epic climax is unmistakably the 13-minute 'Please Don't Pass Me By (A Disgrace)', in which Cohen describes his personal descent into hell & oblivion. The song tormented Cohen to such a degree that he rarely sang it again.

A beautiful collection of songs that shows Cohen in his most raw & vulnerable moments

    Aretha Live At Fillmore West

Aretha Franklin's 1971 album Live at Fillmore West was a seminal soul breakthrough. It finally cemented her status beyond soul audiences and it matched her with a phenomenal rhythm section in King Curtis and the Kingpins. Franklin adroitly mixed pop, rock, and soul material throughout the three nights, including Stephen Stills' ''Love The One You're With,'' and Bread's ''Make It With You,'' and the Beatles' ''Eleanor Rigby,'' as well as true favorites ''Respect,'' ''Don't Play That Song,'' and ''Spirit in the Dark,'' which brought Ray Charles out of the audience for a spirited duet. Deluxe gatefold sleeve featuring photos from the concert and new liner notes by Down Beat contributor Mitch Myers (including fresh interviews with original album producers Jerry Wexler and Arif Mardin). Live At Stubb's Vol. II (Awaiting Repress)

When Matisyahu's groundbreaking original live album, Live at Stubb's, was released in 2005, it launched him onto Top 40 radio with his now most-recognizable anthem King Without a Crown. The album reached #1 on the Billboard Reggae Album Chart.

Now with three critically acclaimed studio albums to his name, Matisyahu decided to return to where it all-began. On a hot August night in Austin, TX, in the summer of 2010, he took the stage at the famed music venue Stubb's with his band, Brooklyn's The Dub Trio, for an unforgettable live music experience. Showcasing his incredible artistic evolution, Matisyahu unveiled the brand new song Open The Gates and performed songs that span his lauded catalog, including selections from 2004's Shake Off The Dust...Arise, 2005's Live at Stubb's, 2006's Youth and 2009's Light.

With a re-discovered love for roots reggae and improvisation at the core of his live show, Matisyahu brilliantly re-vamped the vocal and instrumental arrangements, elevating each song to new heights. From album opener Kodesh to tracks such as Mist Rising, Youth, Darkness Into Light and One Day, Live At Stubb's Vol. II is a raw and inspiring musical journey that is sure to become a treasured part of Matisyahu's musical legacy.

Roxy - Tonight's the Night Live

Produced By Young And The Late David Briggs

Mixed By John Nowland With Updated Post-Production And Mastering By John Hanlon - Along With Chris Bellman - At Bernie Grundman Mastering Using The Original Analog Master Tape Source

One of the most sought-after recordings from his vast archives, Roxy - Tonight's The Night Live. This was the first public performance of many of the songs that would make up Young's seminal album Tonight's The Night, which would not be released until June 1975. The album's final track Walk On would not appear until the release of On The Beach, in July 1974.

Young would be the first artist to christen the stage at what would become one of the world's great clubs, The Roxy Theater on the riotous Sunset Strip, right next door to the already infamous Rainbow Bar & Grille. The shows took place on September 20-22, 1973.

Produced by Young and the late David Briggs, these resultant recordings were mixed by John Nowland with updated post-production and mastering by John Hanlon - along with Chris Bellman - at Bernie Grundman Mastering using the original analog master tape source. Close your eyes and you'll be right there in that dark, smoky, 500 capacity room in West, L.A. on a hot summer night in 1973.

Tonight's The Night would go on to be named one of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time, and universally praised for its dark honesty and unapologetic raw delivery. The very same can be said for Roxy - Tonight's The Night Live.

Live From Austin, TX (Kris Kristofferson)

Kris Kristofferson has an unusual resumÉ. Brownsville, Texas-born, football star and Golden Gloves boxer in college, Rhodes scholar at Oxford, Army captain and chopper pilot, studio janitor, part-time bartender, leading man opposite Barbra Streisand and Jane Fonda. But on his passport, under occupation, it reads songwriter. And that more than anything sums up the essence of Kris Kristofferson. His songs have been recorded by at least 500 other artists, from Willie and Johnny (Cash) to Janis Joplin and Ray Charles, but only that gravelly baritone of his can truly render those songs the way they were meant to be heard, from somewhere deep down in the heart of the man himself. This performance from September 1981 captures Kris in his prime. As he put it at the time, the music's a little closer to the soul because I'm creating and controlling the whole show. Classics like Me and Bobby McGee, Loving Her Was Easier, Why Me?, and Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down take on a whole new meaning coming from the man who wrote and lived the words.

This is the show that almost wasn't. As I was about to introduce Kris, the studio descended into total darkness. Apparently an errant rodent chewed through a major power line and the result was a black-out that lasted all night. The audience was led out by flashlight singing the ACL theme and Kris hung out on the roof with the crew. Fortunately, he came back the next night, and the resulting magic is here to enjoy.

Aretha Live At Fillmore West (Speakers Corner)

Live recordings come up with extremely different results: most of them land in the rubbish bin, some of them are available as bootleg copies when a star's career has ended and are passed on conspiratorially from one excited collector to another. Only a very few conserve real spirit and sheer enthusiasm, which no arranger or sound mixer can conjure up in the studio.

But even more sensational was Aretha Franklin's guest appearance at the Fillmore West, the legendary concert hall in San Francisco, which closed down shortly afterwards. Everyone knew who was going to perform, and yet everything was quite different on these three nights in the spring of 1971: her usual show band was left behind in Detroit and she appeared with King Curtis And The Kingpins - one of the most impressive bands around - accompanied by the trailblazers Cornel Dupree (g) and Bernard Purdie (dr). The Memphis Horns, a fantastic horn section, blast away in the background, their keen as a razor backings rising up to soaring heights. From Billy Preston's fingertips on the organ flows an aura of spiritual energy and Ray Charles, who by chance (but how fortuitous!) was among the audience also got his appearance in the telling title Spirit In The Dark. No words need be lost about the queen on the cover. For without the superb albums of the late Sixties, Aretha Franklin would never have become the USA's first sister of soul nor would she have appeared in the Fillmore West.

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Born October 7, 1944, and hailing from California, Judith
Lynn Sill was an American singer-songwriter who learned
how to play piano in her father's Oakland bar. She met,
befriended and started opening shows for Graham Nash
and David Crosby in the mid-to-late 1960s.

After a bit of interest from Atlantic Records, David Geffen
offered Judee a contract and she became the first artist to
sign with his then-fledgling Asylum label. During her early
days at Asylum, she sold her song "Lady-O" to the Turtles and
was featured on the cover of Rolling Stone. Graham Nash
produced her first single, "Jesus Was A Cross Maker," off her
self-titled debut album which was released on September
15, 1971 and engineered by Henry Lewy (Joni Mitchell). The
song was inspired by her romance with singer-songwriter
JD Souther, who later wrote the song "Something In the
Dark" about her. The album featured Sill's voice in multiple
overdubs, often in a four-part chorale or fugue. Her debut
album was not a commercial success, despite good reviews.
Sill took over orchestration and arrangements for her
second album, Heart Food, which was released in March
of 1973. The album was critically acclaimed but sold poorly
and ended her association with Asylum and David Geffen.

Judee continued to write songs and in 1974 began to record
new material planned for a third album that was never
finished. Sill continued to struggle with drug addiction
and health problems, eventually dropping out of the music
scene completely. Judee tragically died of a drug overdose
on November 23, 1979, at her apartment in North Hollywood.

Sill's music was not commercially viable at the time but
was incredibly influential as well as ground-breaking and
many notable songwriters such as Andy Partridge, Liz Phair,
Warren Zevon and Shawn Colvin have been fans of her work.
Her songs have been covered by the Hollies, Cass Elliott,
Warren Zevon, Beth Orton, Bill Callahan, Bonnie Prince Billy,
Ron Sexsmith, The Fruit Bats and many more.

    Living With The Law

The beautiful breakthrough album of Chris Whitley was released in 1991 and was immediate proof of his brilliant songwriting.

In a time when upbeat Pop Rock dominated the hit charts, Living With The Law had a somewhat dark and introvert quality. Its richness surfaces in the use of old-fashioned sounds such as slide guitars and banjos against a backdrop of subtly arranged rhythm tracks, whilst all the time carrying the splendid timbre of his voice. The native Texan tackles subjects such as drug abuse, loneliness and failure, making Living With The Law an incredibly honest and compelling album.

Living With The Law put Chris Whitley on the map, albeit under the radar of mainstream audiences. This is your chance to let Whitley in your life on heavy 180 gram vinyl!
