Against the bleeding-heart backdrop of Times Square at the Novotel Hotel, The Drums announced they will be releasing their third full-length,

Noisey surprised everyone by premiering the first single, "Magic Mountain" on July 15. In fact it was the first song The Drums have released in nearly 3
years, marking a return to the two founding core members of Jonny Pierce and Jacob Graham. Spin says "the new single is still guided by that infectious
head-bobbery, but the Brooklyn indie-popper's blithe bounce takes on a fervent frenzy." Baeble noted the prevailing "sheen of gloom and apprehension," a
departure that Paste says "stirs in sounds in all the right ways."

'Encyclopedia' is The Drums' third full-length album. Emerging from Brooklyn via Florida in 2009, they smashed on the scene with their 'Summertime!' EP
that led to a spot on the BBC Sound of 2010 shortlist, The ShockWaves NME Tour, and the publication's Phillip Hall Radar Award.
The Drums' music often explores the themes of loss, nostalgia, redemption, vulnerability, and love - with critic's raves embracing both the lyrics and their
sonic signature. This time around, they've embraced a darker sound while making it as grand and majestic as they please.

'Encyclopedia' is full of magic and surprise while maintaining a serious, more weighty tone throughout, says Jonny. The upcoming LP marks the first
time since the 'Summertime!' EP that Jacob and Jonny were left to their own devices, without having to ask a soul for approval. The result is an exciting
display of personal emotion and unashamed, majestic songwriting style. In September, The Drums hit the road for the first time since the 2012.

    Abysmal Thoughts

With The Drums' new Abysmal Thoughts, band founder Jonny Pierce is making the exact album he has always held in his heart. Of course, this is The Drums, so that heart is broken-but there's beauty and even bliss in this kind of heartbreak, as well as that special kind of glorious delirium that comes from taking everything life can throw at you and still walking away triumphant.

Abysmal Thoughts finds Pierce back in full control of The Drums, not just writing all the songs himself but playing every instrument and bringing his exact personal vision to life. Not coincidentally, it is some of the most revelatory work he's ever done.

If Abysmal Thoughts doesn't sound at all abysmal-really, Pierce has rarely been this irresistibly pop-that's because this is a story about how to figure out what happiness means once the worst has already happened: "If there's one thing I can rely on it's the healing power of being an artist," he says. "I'm falling back in love with music."

The eighth full-length from Minnesota's Low, and their second for Sub Pop. While these songs feature new elements (looped vocals, drum machines, etc.), and are thoroughly, radiantly contemporary, they remain undeniably Low's. "Drums And Guns" possesses the unique, subtle beauty and power we've come to expect from this band, but it's also profoundly exciting in ways that are easy to forget music can be.

    Bass Drum Of Death

2013's self-titled Bass Drum of Death album is everything about 2011's debut GB City amplified, in every sense of the word. With nothing but his inspiration and his instruments, Barrett spent the fall of 2012 in his studio, smashing out punk rock. This time it was just him, lots of coffee, a Realistic reverb unit to give everything just a little of that stoned-in-outer-space and for the first time in Bass Drum of Death history, a bass that he used on every new track.

    Message From A Drum

See The Light is the debut album by The Jeff Healey Band, released in 1988. See The Light may be similar to Stevie Ray Vaughan's high-octane Blues-Rock, but in blues and blues-rock, it's often the little things that count, such as guitar styles, and there's no denying that Healey has a distinctive style.

Healey plays his Stratocaster flat on his lap, allowing him to perform unusual long stretches that give his music real heart and unpredictability. Throughout the album, his guitar work keeps things interesting, even on slow ballads like Angel Eyes (one of two John Hiatt songs, by the way, along with the ripping Confidence Man).

That's what keeps See the Light interesting, and it's what makes it an intriguing, promising debut. It made the top 100 Albums in Canada in 1989, and was nominated for an Album of the Year Juno Award a year later.

    Drumming (Pure Pleasure)

Simply put, Drumming is, along with some of Philip Glass' Einstein On The Beach, one of the most fascinating pieces of first-generation minimalism. The version recorded for Elektra/Nonesuch in 1987 ranks among Reich's masterpieces. The 60-minute continuous work features one basic rhythm pattern. Throughout four segued movements it is multiplied, played in canon on various percussion instruments. Part I is for four pairs of tuned bongo drums; Part II for three marimbas (played by nine players) and two singers mimicking the sound of marimbas; Part III for three glockenspiels, piccolo, and whistling (played by Reich himself); Part IV for all previous instruments, including voices. Transitions between movements are gradual, the whole piece being built on accumulation and reduction. When it is time to go to the next movement, players are slowly removed, quarter-notes replaced by rests, in order to make room for the new instruments. The piece almost comes to a complete halt at the end of Part III, keeping only the most basic pulse before the whole process starts over, building up to the finale. There is a sense of happiness and lightness irradiating from Drumming. It is a perfect example of the paradox of the simple and the complex, the easy and the challenging underlying minimalist music. Both cerebral and vitally tribal or ritualistic, this album is a must-have.

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Through Silver in Blood is the fifth album from the California based post-metal band Neurosis. The album holds elements of industrial metal reminiscent of Godflesh, sludge metal, doom metal, avant-garde metal, and yet still retains faint elements of hardcore punk from the band's previous work. The vocals are usually shouted, growled or screamed, and the drums are often played in a similar way to the electronic drums exhibited in industrial metal and industrial rock, although the drums play a doom metal or sludge metal groove in many passages.

The guitars are stacked like thick diamonds, the vocals are way out front and buttressed by sweet harmonies in the choruses, the drums sound large, and the mix is loaded with sweetening from acoustic guitars, keyboards, and female vocals. - NY Times

When Bass Drum of Death started touring the rock club circuit
outside Oxford, Mississippi, several years ago, there was a legitimate
concern that the band's appeal might be limited to fans of the
garage scene. With a seemingly never-ending series of tour dates,
BDoD nonetheless transformed rooms full of normally
too-cool-to-rock indie crowds into a mob of sweaty, stage-diving
maniacs. Meanwhile, Madison Avenue, eager to cash in on hip
cachet, took notice. Since the release of 2011's GB City, "Get Found"
has been featured in FOX promos for the NASCAR season. Rockstar
Games' megaseller Grand Theft Auto V helped to promote last
year's self-titled album. Gamers terrorized the freeways of Los
Santos, living out their cops-and-robbers fantasies, as "Crawling
After You" blasted through their car stereo speakers. Bass Drum of
Death are teetering on the brink of reaching a mainstream audience,
and Rip This is their attempt to record an unapologetic rock album
for people outside their normal fan base.

In the past, BDoD brainchild John Barrett wrote and recorded all the
material and toured with a revolving lineup of hired guns on drums
and guitar. This time around, drummer Len Clark joins Barrett as a
full-time member and collaborator. The duo began discussing plans
for a new record when touring with Unknown Mortal Orchestra in
2013. Barrett and Clark then convinced UMO bassist Jacob Portrait
to take on the role of producer when the band booked a session in
March at Prairie Sun Studios in Sonoma County, California. With a
few rough demos, Barrett, Clark, and Portrait hunkered down for two
weeks and cranked out the band's first proper studio album. Rip This
retains BDoD's trademark sorry-for-partyin' swagger while
scrapping the crackling hiss and lo-fi fuzz. The result is an record
that still relies on an obliterating attack of heavy guitars, danceable
hooks, and kinetic drumming, but will appeal as much to KISS fans
as the music freaks and geeks who worship Nuggets. Both a
challenge to music critics and a rock call-to-arms, the title says it all.
You're not going to hear many records this year that rip like this, so
shotgun a beer, tune in, and turn up.

A long time ago I used to hear spiritual singers singing beautiful songs and I wanted to be a singer too. I first started my musical career by singing in small local groups in my hometown of Memphis, TN. In the year 1968, I came to Seattle, Washington and started singing with local groups but failed to find the one that stable enough to record so I decided to cut an album by myself. The music was written and produced by myself who, except for the drum parts, done the entire record. - Famous L. Renfroe

    J. Anthony Granelli, the material on Dance Hall reflects Jerry Granelli's
deep gratitude to the artists who originally wrote and recorded these
great songs, and at this point in his life the sheer joy of playing the drums.

"The key was not doing covers, but finding songs that were personal to
my journey. We kept it as open and spontaneous as possible, this one
is about the joy of finding the freedom in the form."

Robert Glasper is a man of many talents. Certainly, he's both an inarguably accomplished jazz pianist and a first-rate composer. But what Glasper does best is pick drummers. With 2007's In My Element, he provided Damion Reid with a platform to record nothing less than the drum performance of the year. For this album, Glasper teams up with Chris Dave, and the results are astonishing. It's a concept album, sort of. The first half features the Trio (Glasper, Dave, and bassist Vicente Archer) on a handful of originals and a take on Thelonius Monk's Think of One. Throughout, the piano and drums intertwine with a complex integrity that sounds deceptively effortless. Then comes the Experiment: Derrick Hodge replaces Archer with an electric bass; Casey Benjamin adds saxes and vocoder; Bilal and Mos Def drop in for vocal cameos. The Experiment's five tracks differ in texture and depth from the Trio's set, but the adventurousness of the performances and the gorgeous lyricism of Dave's drumming fuse the album's halves into a single musical statement that makes for the year's best jazz album so far. --Jason Kirk
