It was released in 1990 and featured the hit,"There She Goes" alongside the singles "Way Out", "Timeless Melody", and "Feelin". The album was praised by both critics and fans and was a result of a three-year stint in the studio with various producers and the band.Songwriter and lead vocalist, Lee Mavers was unhappy with the recording and the album was immediately disowned by the band. Blue Bell Knoll is the fifth album by Cocteau
Twins. Originally released in 1988 by 4AD in the UK
and Capitol in the US, Pitchfork listed this album
as one of the best albums of the 80s. This was the
band's first full studio album to be released in
the US via a distribution deal with Capitol. The
album marked a turning point for the band. Robin
Guthrie stated ""At first you're just trying to make
a record, and then you're trying to make a really
good record. And then you're trying to go further.... Blue Bell Knoll was a really important
record to me. It really sticks as one of my favorites. Perhaps not because of how it came out,
although it is quite listenable, but because of the
experience of making it."
Heaven or Las Vegas followed in 1990, and the release was also via 4AD in the UK and Capitol in the
US. It was the band's last album for 4AD, and was
their most commercially successful possibly due
to Elizabeth Fraser's much more intelligible lyrics. Numerous publications declared it one of the
best albums of the 90s and Pitchfork called it "a
core of ungodly gorgeous songs that is every bit
as moving and relevant today as it ever was".
Both of these albums have been unavailable on
vinyl for some time. Heaven or Las Vegas has never
been commercially available in the US on vinyl,
while Blue Bell Knoll's vinyl via Capitol wasn't
re-pressed after the initial release, and therefore
hasn't been available in at least 25 years.1. Cherry-coloured Funk

Eureka (Awaiting Repress)Eureka, the third studio album from Canadian avante pop quintet Mother Mother, is the band's most tenacious and undaunted record to date. Slated for a Last Gang Records worldwide release, Eureka offers up eccentric, hook laden pop-meets-rock songs housed in creative arrangements with clever lyrics and intricate harmonies.
Produced by Mother Mother's own Ryan Guldemond and mixed by Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Franz Ferdinand, Elvis Costello), the 12 new tracks that comprise the album surpass their predecessors with a greater sense of cohesion, exuberance and overall sonic depth. The Stand, Eureka's incredibly addictive lead off single is a tale of a misanthrope who corrupts the minds of two young school girls. Guldemond, the group's chief songwriter and frontman describes the album as a vivid depiction of where the band's at right now, which is the height of our musicianship, songwriting and strength as collaborators.1. Cryptocracy (Awaiting Repress)From the metal-hewn flatlands of Finland comes a dark new force in electronic music. Forged in the electrical fire of industrial; nurtured through the apocalyptic feedback of art-rock, experimental and all things disruptive; and championed by the most influential names in EDM and beyond, Huoratron is deeper, stranger and harder-core than whatever came before it.
Huoratron came to life in 2003, the brainchild of DJ/producer/mad 8-bit scientist Aku Raski. His sinister vision has taken form in just a few releases: some material for Finnish label New Judas, including the proactively aggressive Prevenge EP, containing angry blip-fest $$ Troopers and Corporate Occult, a slice of electro-house gone horribly awry. A set of remixes that changed H.I.M.'s In Venere Veritas from a jangly bit of radio rock to a doomed ride aboard a haunted 747 and M.I.A.'s Internet Connection from her usual minimal-funky hoedown to a sizzling nuclear rain storm.
After resigning to Last Gang in 2010, Raski hit the studio, emerging a year later with Cryptocracy, his first full-length album. To be blatantly honest I do not personally feel a close resemblance to many, if any artist within my scene, Raski explains. This is mostly because I'm driven by my own vigorous motivation and do what I do despite associations made by others. I mean no disrespect by this. It is simply a fact that I, as an artist am in the center of the storm and feel content there.
Cryptocracy is a journey of destruction, driven by chip synths, distortion and gut-punching bass. Recognizable sounds peak their heads out occasionally: a house riff on Transcendence, a dubstep pass on Sea of Meat, stripped-down techno on A699F. But they're swallowed up by an apocalyptic wave; the noises, textures and sonic sneak attacks that are Huoratron's signature, born more from a feeling than a particular genre focus.1. Cryptocracy

The Sticks (Awaiting Repress)"Bit by bit, gonna get my bricks out in the sticks / Bit by bit, gonna build my house in the wildest thickets / Gonna get away from all those mouths and my shit / Gonna say good-bye to all the la-di-da-di-da-di-da-di-da," Mother Mother's singer and guitarist Ryan Guldemond sings on "Bit By Bit", the song he calls the benchmark piece and anthem of The Sticks. And so it goes on this Canadian five-piece's latest effort, an album about "longing to escape the clutches of the modern world."
The album is about as unpredictable musically as it is lyrically, with "Let's Fall in Love" eventually revealing dirty, "Supermassive Black Hole"-esque guitars, "Little Pistol" busting out strings and reserving into a fuzzy, evolving folk tune, and the drums on the title track revealing themselves as a dead-ringer for "When The Levee Breaks. Random though this journey into the Canadian countryside may be, it's a damn fun ride. A pit stop in the band's more folky past pops up on track five, the acoustic, vocal-driven "Dread In My Heart", whose "We Are Going To Be Friends"-simplicity and lyrics like, "There's a god awful shitty feeling of dread in my heart / And I can't seem to change my attitude, but I can change my heart," effortlessly resonate.

Siberia Acoustic (Awaiting Repress)Siberia Acoustic is the first remix album by Canadian singer-songwriter Lights.
When electro-rock sensation Lights first hit the music scene in 2008, she was just a songwriter with a synth and a dream. She was a one-woman show who played and programmed her own instruments and sang her own lyrics. After releasing her debut album, The Listening, Lights was ready to open herself up to collaborations on her unexpectedly experimental album Siberia.
By choosing to collaborate with live electronic outfit Holy Fuck and rising rapper Shad, she opened up her sound. Siberia's beats skitter and thwack, the retro electronics fire like decomposing lasers and the analog synths dirty up her trademark pretty melodies, propelling Lights emotion-soaked but still-cute croon into her sprawling, imperfect new sound.Banner

XOBear Mountain's electro/dance style blends syncopated bass lines and arpeggiated synth chords with live instrumentation and soaring vocals to produce a style that is unmistakably fresh and powerfully captivating.
With a vocal timbre reminiscent of Ray Lamontagne, and an emotive, spacious sensibility in the vein of Damien Rice, Bear Mountain performs with powerful release and vulnerable honesty.
Certain songs make you feel younger. It's something more than nostalgia; there's a joyous enthusiasm in some music that doesn't bring you back to the time you were young, but back to the sensation of being young. With the six songs on their debut album, xo, Vancouver duo Bear Mountain achieve this heart-pumping, smile-widening freedom, parsing the elements of dozens of genres and times and spinning them around until the listener becomes gleefully dizzy. - Adam Kivel1. Live It Out (Awaiting Repress)Live It Out is the second album released by the Canadian indie rock band Metric. It was originally released in September 27, 2005 on Last Gang Records.
Toronto's Metric has the ability to appeal to fans on a number of levels: the group captures the likeability of Elastica with the cheekiness of Blondie and then mixes that new wave style with just enough of a growling guitar to give it some oomph. Since their last release, the acclaimed Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?, Metric's sound has morphed slightly; this follow-up is a little more guitar-based and slightly less electronic than their last, a move likely to broaden their fan base even further.
Metric's rock-meets-new-wave is not only timely, it is joyful to boot. The driving track Handshakes could easily qualify for the next ipod commercial, while Monster Hospital's retro punk style has a Clash-inspired chorus that will stay in your head for days. By the same token, the band's musical diversity is especially evident in the beautiful The Police and the Private, where one could easily imagine that they are listening to an up-tempo Sarah Harmer track. Metric's cross-genre appeal is at least party due to frontwoman Emily Haines' delivery. A smart writer and performer, Haines' contributions to the Broken Social Scene collective have already made her voice somewhat familiar, and in her own element she shines especially bright. From her delicate whispers (the Pink Floyd-esque Ending Start) to her Eurotrash-inspired yelps (Live It Out) Haines has the it factor that makes indie rock critics swoon, and keeps fans dedicated. --Denise Sheppard1, Empty

Tin Star (Awaiting Repress)Tin Star, the latest album from critically lauded singer-songwriter Lindi Ortega, is released by Last Gang Records. The record follows 2012's Polaris Prize long-listed Cigarettes and Truckstops and her 2011 Juno Award-nominated debut Little Red Boots. Billboard called Cigarettes and Truckstops heartfelt and mood-inducing, a uniquely bluesy twist on pre-outlaw country while The New York Times praised Ortega for having untamed instincts, but classic bones.
Produced by Grammy-nominated Dave Cobb (Secret Sisters, Shooter Jennings), Tin Star demonstrates the unique voice and songwriting that Ortega has come to be known for and is largely inspired by Ortega's adopted home of Nashville. Born and bred in Toronto, Ortega made the move to Music City to be closer to the musicians who inspired her. It's always my goal to raise the bar with each record I put out. I have witnessed so much talent living in Nashville that has inspired me to push myself even further, she explains. I like to work with different musicians and producers to change the feel of every release. I don't want to risk making the same record over and over. Working with a new group brings a new spirit and new ideas to the music.

Guilt TripsCanada's own Ryan Hemsworth has become one of the fastest rising producers and remix artist in the past couple of years. Since his first official release in 2012 Last Words on West Coast label Wedidit Collective, he's gained notoriety for his original production and collaborations, and has since then amassed fans and charmed critics all over the world- meanwhile touring Europe, Australia, and North America with the likes of Bauuer, Daedelus, and others.
Now, the man some call "The Internet Zack Morris" and "The Remix Ryan Gosling" is proud to announce his debut album Guilt Trips on famed label Last Gang Records due out in 2013.
On this newest full length, Hemsworth digs deeper beyond the hip hop, r&b and dance music world to inspirations that sprout from a time before he made the type of music that people have come to expect.
"For this project, I wanted to just expand on everything, lay as much as I could out on the table," he explains. "There's a lot more of me on this than my last projects. With a lot of the songs, I had high school in mind and during that time I was making music with my voice, guitar, and samples, so I've gone back to the first two a bit more, and also getting help from vocalists. Some of the club music that I've been surrounded by in the past year can be really cold, so I think once you throw in more melody and emotion that can only come from the human voice and guitar, it becomes a lot warmer."
"I reached out to friends and people I admire really. I wanted kind of unexpected collaborations and people with a uniqueness to them, instead of just reaching out to random top-liners. Someone like Lofty305, who has a weird, certainly not trained voice, made sense for "Against A Wall" because I wanted it to match the mood of the track. That's so much more important to me than making a perfect song. I just wanted to flesh out that charming imperfection on a lot of the tracks. When I asked the people on it to do their parts, I didn't direct them too much but just asked them to think of a breakup or a time when they felt weird or shitty from love. All of my music is sparked from love in some form or another I think, so this album is kind of just a capsule of different moods caused by love."1. Small + Lost (featuring Sinead Harnett)

Alone For The First TimeUpcoming studio album from producer and remix artist Ryan Hemsworth.
Alone For The First Time comes at a busy time for the Canadian beatmaker. Not only is it landing just a year after his debut album, Guilt Trips, but also amidst a hectic world touring schedule and the release of a new compilation from the free-to-download digital label Secret Songs that he launched this past spring.
You might already know Alone For The First Time's first single, Snow In Newark, which had hints of emo-inflected indie rock. Apparently that's the theme on the new LP, with Hemsworth claiming that he's fighting with expectations and conventional formulas in a press release, adding 'Snow In Newark' and the rest of this album are [his] personal reactions to the current state of electronic and rock music.
In addition to vocals from Dawn Golden on that first single, the record also features appearances from New Zealand's Lontalius, trance-baiting entity Doss, Little Cloud and others. Like Guilt Trips, it'll see release on Canadian label Last Gang Records.1. Hurt Me

Secret LifeToronto duo Moon King have crafted a raw, rapturous and emotional new record, which documents their ascent from an intimate conceptual project into a powerful live band. A first preview of the record comes with the chugging propulsion, soaring harmonies and cosmic haze of album opener 'Roswell'.
In 2013, Moon King, made up of songwriter Daniel Benjamin and singer/guitarist Maddy Wilde, played over 100 shows to support a pair of EPs, Obsession I and II, which were released on Fucked Up's One Big Silence label in North America and Tough Love in UK/Europe. After a year spent on the road, it became evident they should capture the energy of their live show while it was fresh. Following a performance at Iceland Airwaves, Daniel & Maddy relocated to a cottage in northern Ontario to record the album with a group of Toronto music scene luminaries, all of whom had played in various incarnations of the live band.
Most of the tracks on the album were recorded live off the floor, with little except the vocals added, put to tape by live sound engineer Noah Giffin (Owen Pallett, Austra, Diana). Though only five days of recording were booked, an ice storm prevented them from leaving, resulting in an extra couple of days work. The record was then mixed in New York with Jacob Portrait of Unknown Mortal Orchestra/Blouse.
The album's production introduces further nuance to the wall-of-sound approach of the EPs, stripping back dense layers to unearth spellbinding vocals and melodies. Daniel's lyrics focus on catharsis and the weight of emotional trauma, as well as dealing with the self-doubt that stands in the way of recovery.
Frequent show-opener "Apocalypse" begins with the confession "somehow I feel no release when I'm alone with anyone else / somehow I fall to pieces when I wake up to nothing where you should be" and builds intensity and speed until overflowing in a rush of noise, an oddly structured pop song with no repeating sections. "It's impossible / you've been run through with fear / love's a landfill / just another burning spear" chants the soaring chorus of 'Impossible'. The ultimatum at the climax of "Golden Age" - "all I want is to be wanted" channels an honest and tangible fear not common in today's pop landscape.
This sense of loss and longing permeates the album throughout, each song carrying with it both a weight and a sense of urgency.1. Roswell

OperatorAfter a 5 year hiatus, Canadian electronic music producers MSTRKRFT (Jessi F. Keeler & Al-P) are back. Driven by distorted drum beats, hauntingly hypnotic synths, and booming cinematic soul, OPERATOR immediately captivates. "It's probably the most acurate reflection of how we work on stage," says Jesse. "We had to be very creative with very few elements. It took time to figure that out".
2011 was the last time we heard from MSTRKRFT with the release of the single "BACK IN THE USSA", following their Juno Award-winning debut album THE LOOKS in 2006. MSTRKRFT have released official remixes for everybody from KATY PERRY and KYLIE MINOGUE to WOLFMOTHER, Justice and Bloc Party. 2009's FIST OF GOD boasted collaborations with the likes of John Legend, Ghostface Killah, E-40, N.O.R.E., Lil' Mo and more as it predicted an eventual crossover between hip-hop and electronic music on the horizon.1. Choir Of The MindOrange Colored Vinyl
It's time: Emily Haines is back with Fatal Gift - the first listen from Choir of the Mind, the Metric singer's first release as her Soft Skeleton solo project in a decade.
Haines' vocals are definitely the focal point of Choir of the Mind. She used her voice to create spellbinding orchestrations for an effect that is subtle and ghostly on Wounded, lush on Fatal Gift and deeply powerful on Legend Of the Wild Horse, which she calls her soft anthem. Haines' voice is the only audible instrument on Strangle All Romance, and she creates mesmerizing layers that drift and swirl through the title track, which includes a spoken word part adapted from a poem by the Indian mystic Sri Aurobindo.
Haines recorded Choir of the Mind over several weeks in September And October of 2016, more or less alone in Metric's Toronto studio with a borrowed 18-foot grand piano built in 1850. Her longtime musical partner/Metric bandmate, James Shaw, helped flesh out the sonics with various instruments and rhythmic elements. (Shaw also mixed the album).Sparklehorse drummer Scott Minor, a member of the Soft Skeleton's first incarnation, returned to perform on Legend of the Wild Horse.
