The Legend Of Johnny Cash'
American RecordingsIn 1994 Cash stunned the music world with this commanding collection of 13 solo acoustic performances that roll from gospel to cowboy to sarcastic folk.
Minimalism had long been Cash's meal ticket, but this time around, producer Rick Rubin stripped it all away, recording the bulk of the record in Cash's
cabin or his own living room (two cuts were captured live at the Viper Room in front of an emphatic audience). Cash offers five typically direct and vivid
originals, but he also seizes control of songs by Kris Kristofferson, Nick Lowe, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, and Loudon Wainwright. Forty years after Hey
Porter, Cash delivers a pure, naked, and incredibly moving record that, dare we say, rivals the impact of his greatest achievements. --Marc Greilsamer
Johnny Cash had already recorded some of the most important Country albums in the history of the genre, yet, although he was still making quality music
throughout the '80s, record sales and label support were the lowest he'd ever experienced in his entire career. By the early '90s, he was without a label for
the first time in four decades. Longtime fan, label owner and producer Rick Rubin stepped in, asked Johnny to return to his roots and together, they recreated
the legend of the Man In Black. Features Cash performing his own compositions as well as songs from Loudon Wainwright, Leonard Cohen, Nick
Lowe, Tom Waits and Glenn Danzig. American Recordings earned Johnny a 1995 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. A stunning return

Johnny Cash Greatest Hits Volume 1First Time on Audiophile Vinyl
Gatefold Cover presentation of his classic 1967 multi-platinum Greatest Hits LP!!!
Mastered impeccably by Joe Reagoso and Kevin Gray from the original Columbia Records tapes
Manufactured at R.T.I.
Johnny Cash was born during the great depression into a poor family in Arkansas. At a very young age he worked on the family farm
and experienced many of life's struggles. This is also the time he would develop his love for music, family and the Bible, which followed him
closely throughout his long career. In the early fifties after spending time in the Air Force, he moved to Memphis, became friends with folks
like Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis, and ultimately cut some sides at Sun Studios which became the catalyst
that would kick-start the beginnings of a soon to be worldwide superstar, troubadour and humanitarian unlike the world has ever known.
The folks at Columbia Records knew that this young fellow named Johnny Cash was destined for superstardom. They quickly signed
the legend to a long term deal, and his first Columbia singles like his prolific Don't Take Your Guns to Town forever etched "The Man In Black"
trademark to his name.
In 1967 after many chart topping country and pop albums and a bevy of hit singles and Grammy Awards, more fame followed as the
brass at Columbia Records honored their journeyman Johnny Cash with his first hits collection, the multi-platinum Johnny Cash's Greatest
Hits Volume 1.
The album was a blockbuster as it topped the charts, making this a crossover hit with both country and pop audiences, proving once again that his career was of historic merit.
Filled with more hits than a roadside jukebox, the amazing album takes off with the classic duet with wife June Carter Cash and
Grammy Award winner Jackson. This chart topping single is followed up by one of his most famous songs the number one I Walk the Line.
More treasures follow with the country belter Understand Your Man and Cash's own hit interpretation of Orange Blossom Special, which truly
made the album a treasure trove of hits.
More greatest hits follow as the LP features a nice helping of solid smashes like Ring of Fire, Five Feet High and Rising, the aforementioned Don't Take Your Guns to Town, and probably one of the first Bob Dylan covers ever with his haunting It Ain't Me Babe. In total, the
album showcases eleven important Johnny Cash recordings which have truly gone on to become international classics for all time.

Johnny Cash At San Quentin (Speakers Corner)
Johnny Cash was a country legend even during his lifetime, although, or perhaps because, he was very different from the numerous country singers with chequered shirts. When performing he chose to wear black as a symbol of solidarity with the oppressed and those who had no rights. His chosen outlaw image was just as convincing as the train-like boom-tiddy-boom sound of his rhythm group who lent their typical sound to many of his 500 songs.
At the very zenith of his career, Cash (who himself had committed a few minor offenses) had the idea of singing and playing for the bad guys behind the prison walls for nothing. Initially his suggestion to market the live recording was rejected, but finally his record company decided to release the album At Folsom Prison. Fired by the success of his jailhouse recording, Columbia Records released At San Quentin shortly afterwards. The recording, in which Cash and his combo were frenetically applauded more or less at the end of each verse, exceeded all expectations. Today it is still considered by Cash fans to be the best live recording by the 'man in black'.

About Speakers Corner
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Unseen CashJohnny Cash Unseen Cash on One-Sided 180g Import LP w/ B-Side Engraving + Book
Think You've Seen It All by Johnny Cash? Think You've Heard It All by Johnny Cash? Think Again!
An innovative artist like Johnny Cash deserves an innovative package. Here, striking unpublished images from early in Cash's career are packaged with a one-sided LP of Cash on-stage in 1957 and 1959. The flipside of this limited edition LP features a portrait of the music legend engraved into the LP's audiophile-grade 180g vinyl.
Presented in a 16-page hardcover book, Unseen Cash from William Speer's Studio is a true collector's item complete with extraordinary photos and 12-tracks of rarely heard audio! Released to coincide with the 80th anniversary of Johnny Cash's birth!
In 1955, at the dawn of his long career, Sun Records president Sam Phillips sent Johnny Cash to a nearby photographer, William Speer. Cash was fortunate because Speer was an innovative craftsman, influenced by vintage Hollywood photographers who used light in a dramatic new way. Speer shot photo sessions with Cash, between 1955 and 1958. A couple of the images were published in the 1950s, but the rest were stored away until now!1. Stay All Night, Stay A Little Longer

Original Sun Singles '55-'58To hear Johnny Cashs swaggering Sun Records-era material is to marvel at one of the primal source-streams of what was fast becoming the headwaters of rock n roll. Cashs craggy, lunch-bucket vocals on gleaming original versions of songs like Cry! Cry! Cry!, Get Rhythm, Big River, and I Walk the Line, backed by the signature guitar style of Luther Perkins and Marshall Grants steady bass, are really just the tip of the iceberg corralled on this stunning collection. Live From Austin, TX (Jerry Lee Lewis)"Rock and Roll's the thing and Jerry Lee's the King " or so said an English fan once upon a time somewhere. Elvis fans might dispute that title, but nobody else in the history of popular music would dare call himself "The Killer." Of all the legends who came out of Sun Records in the 1950s - Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison - no one would have bet the last one standing would be the pill-popping, whiskey-guzzling, gun-waving hellion from Ferriday, LA except The Killer, of course. Jerry Lee Lewis took black rhythm & blues, white gospel, and other funky Mississippi sounds and turned them into rock and roll. But Jerry Lee's life also is, and has always been, his piano; he has kicked and banged and set on fire (literally) many of them over the course of six-plus decades. He almost never made it to Austin City Limits. He canceled one appearance and, only weeks before this recording on October 17, 1983, his wife died in a freak swimming pool accident at their home. But he did make it, and what we have here is one of the most amazing performances ever to go down on the ACL stage. Throughout the day he was a perfect gentleman, showing up on time and acting very graciously to one and all, but once he hit the stage, all hell broke loose. The songs speak for themselves; they're ALL here. For many years later, Jerry Lee would carry a tape of this show to play for friends (and himself, many times). When I tried to book him again for a return performance, the response was, "Jerry Lee doesn't think he could possibly do a better show."

Blood, Sweat & TearsOriginally released in 1963, Blood, Sweat and Tears is the fifteenth studio album by American icon Johnny Cash.
Essentially the album is a collection of songs about the American working man. It includes the classic ballad The Legend of John Henry's Hammer and the single Busted. Five years after the release of Blood, Sweat and Tears, both songs appeared on one of Cash's most famous records, At Folsom Prison.
The album's title is inspired by a quote from Winston Churchill, saying he can offer nothing but blood, toil, tears, and sweat. According to critics the album consists almost entirely of first-rate material and is an essential album in the Johnny Cash catalogue.1. The Legend Of John Henry's Hammer

Unearthed (Box Set)9x 180-Gram Vinyl Box Set Featuring 79 Songs
Features A Pair Of Cloth-bound Books Housed In An LP-Sized Black Cloth Slipcase
One Book Holds The Nine LPs, While The Other Is A Gorgeous 60-Page Coffee Table Book
Coffee Table Book Incorporates Sylvie Simmons' Extensive Liner Notes, Drawn From Five Days Of Interviews At Cash's Home In Tennessee, As Well As Cash And Rubin's Comments On Every Song On The Set, Plus A Copious Selection Of Photographs From The Recording Sessions, Including Some Of The Last Photos Ever Taken Of Cash
Johnny Cash's much-acclaimed box set of primarily unreleased material, Unearthed, is to be reissued as a nine-album vinyl box set. To celebrate the Man in Black's enduring and influential legacy, American Recordings and UMe have reconfigured this monolithic collection for its first-ever vinyl release, spreading Unearthed's 79 songs over nine high-quality 180-gram vinyl LPs while expanding the original box's distinctive packaging for the long-playing format.
The Unearthed vinyl box features a pair of cloth-bound books housed in an LP-sized black cloth slipcase. One book holds the nine LPs, while the other is a gorgeous 60-page coffee table book that incorporates Sylvie Simmons' extensive liner notes, drawn from five days of interviews at Cash's home in Tennessee, as well as Cash and Rubin's comments on every song on the set, plus a copious selection of photographs from the recording sessions, including some of the last photos ever taken of Cash.
Unearthed was originally released as a CD box set by producer Rick Rubin's American Recordings in November 2003, two months after the country superstar's passing. An expansive box set of material, most of it previously unreleased, recorded during the artist's graceful twilight years.
The set was originally planned to celebrate Cash and Rubin's decade of recording together, and the final mixes had been sent to Cash, but he passed away before receiving them. The recordings, which run the stylistic gamut from stark balladry to punchy rockabilly to heartfelt gospel to classic covers, offer a stunning encapsulation of Cash's wide-ranging musical vision, and provide a fitting epitaph for his iconic career.
In its original CD format, Unearthed was acclaimed as an instant classic. Rolling Stone named it as one of the "100 Best Albums of the 2000s" and declared the set a slice of American culture as monumental, and as enduring, as Mt. Rushmore.
Unearthed is divided into five thematic sections. Who's Gonna Cry focuses on acoustic solo recordings, and finds Cash revisiting several classic songs from his legendary catalog. Trouble In Mind is oriented towards electric performances, and includes guest appearances by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Carl Perkins and members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, as well as Cash's wife and longtime duet partner June Carter Cash. Redemption Songs is largely acoustic, and features duets with Joe Strummer, Fiona Apple, Nick Cave and Glen Campbell. My Mother's Hymn Book demonstrates Cash's lifelong affinity for gospel music, encompassing 15 time-honored gospel standards. Best of Cash On American offers a memorable 15-song selection of highlights from Cash's first four albums with Rubin.
In the years since Cash's passing, the artist's legend has grown and his music has gained in power. It's hard to think of a more appropriate and impressive send-off for this one-of-a-kind American original than the massive musical statement that is Unearthed.Part 1: Who's Gonna Cry

The River & The ThreadI went back to where I was born, and these songs started arriving in me, says Rosanne Cash. All these things happened that made me feel a deeper connection to the South than I ever had. We started finding these great stories, and the melodies that went with those experiences.
With The River and the Thread, Cash has added the next chapter to a remarkable period of creativity. Her last two albums, Black Cadillac (2006) and The List (2009), were both nominated for Grammy Awards; The List-an exploration of essential songs as selected and given to Rosanne by her father, Johnny Cash-was also named Album of the Year by the Americana Music Association. In addition, her best-selling 2010 memoir, Composed, was described by the Chicago Tribune as one of the best accounts of an American life you will likely ever read.
Cash, who has charted 21 Top 40 country singles, including 11 Number Ones, wrote all of the new album's songs with her longtime collaborator (and husband) John Leventhal, who also served as producer, arranger, and guitarist. Featuring a long list of guests-from young guns like John Paul White (The Civil Wars) and Derek Trucks to such legends as John Prine and Tony Joe White-The River and the Thread is a kaleidoscopic examination of the geographic, emotional, and historic landscape of the American South. The album's unique sound, which draws from country, blues, gospel, and rock, reflects the soulful mix of music that traces its history to the region.
Rosanne Cash acknowledges that, even with fifteen albums and four books behind her, it was difficult to start writing songs again after spending several years immersed in the masterful compositions featured on The List. You cannot keep that in your mind, except as an inspiration, a standard to aspire to, she says. To say, 'I'm going to write a song as great as Take These Chains'-you're not! So the only way to not get dismantled by that is to stay connected to your own muse, and immerse yourself completely in what you're doing so it can be as rich and authentic as it can possibly be. That's all you can hope for.
With The River and the Thread, she has risen to that challenge-and emerged with a beautiful and haunting album, one of the finest works in an extraordinary career.1. A Feather's Not A Bird

Gypsum StringsTheir second release springs from 1960's West coast legends like The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Bros., The Charlatans, and Moby Grape, adding elements of X, Neu, The Feelies, Mercury Rev, and Fairport Convention. Cutting through the dense arrangements are powerhouse harmonies. Rachel Cox emerges as the Blue Ridge amalgam of Sandy Denny and Linda Ronstadt while Pat Sullivan's gravelly baritone anchors it all in Johnny Cash and John Doe territory. The sextet's trademark killer songwriting chops are in evidence as Gypsum Strings boasts some beautiful ballads that temper the heaviness of other tracks. Whole Lotta Shakin' (Import)The all-times rockabilly legend Carl Perkins was born into humble beginnings and spent his early years picking cotton and playing electric guitar in a band with his brothers. Signed to Sun Records by Sam Phillips in 1954, he didn't get the big one till he recorded Blue Suede Shoes in 1956. After a fairly slow start, the song with the tremendous beat and novel words about the blue suede shoes started moving and became a million seller. When Johnny Cash left Sun to go to Columbia in 1958, Carl followed him over and recorded Whole Lotta Shakin in June of that year, reinterpreting most of the Sun Records singles hits that made him the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame elected star he later became.1. SinnerProduced by Country legend Buddy Cannon (George Strait, Merle Haggard, George Jones), and recorded over 16 intense hours at Nashville's Blackbird Studios, SINNER captures Aaron Lewis' mindset, a laid back soundtrack that is reminiscent of the genre's most honest and musically adventurous artists.
"I'd like to think that SINNER is a newer take on classic, traditional Outlaw Country, Waylon and Merle and Willie, and Hank Jr. and Johnny Cash and all that stuff," says Lewis. "That was the music I heard a kid, and that's the Country music that permeated my soul and stuck with me my whole life."
While SINNER may surprise those unaware of Lewis' lyrical depth and vocal authority, hard-core fans of his concerts (which he describes as "a very healthy mix of cowboy hats, baseball caps, tattoos and black shirts") will rejoice in having definitive copies of songs they've been hearing live and on the Internet, some for a couple of years.1. Riverman's DaughterThe Grahams, the creative union of lifelong romantic partners Alyssa and Doug Graham, combine soulful bluegrass with hints of earthy Americana, adding colors from traditional folk and country blues, into an infectious blend of storytelling that results in songs of love, loss, yearning, and the view from rural American roads less traveled.
While the duo first met in grade school -- a trait shared by previous musical trail-blazers, from Lennon/McCartney to Jagger/Richards - the Grahams' journey together began when they were teenagers in the shadow of New York City. There, Alyssa, the impassioned troubadour, and Doug, the guitarist extraordinaire, shared a mutual love for the music of the Woodstock era and the adventures of the great outdoors. Over the ensuing years many a campfire lit acoustic jam would include the best of roots renegades like Neil Young, The Band, Gram Parsons, Janis and Emmylou along with more than a few Jerry Garcia and Johnny Cash nuggets. Later, spending much of their time in the secluded Adirondack Mountains at the Graham family fold, Alyssa and Doug learned the time-honored craft of songwriting. Here, their ongoing interests in traditional country, mountain bluegrass and folk legends such as The Carter Family and Mississippi John Hurt would blossom. Hoping to share their stories on a wider stage, the couple eventually settled in New York City, where they performed, collaborated and recorded a variety of acclaimed material before adopting The Grahams moniker.
While the duo had written music together before, in the summer of 2012 new writing sessions yielded a different approach. Something magical was happening between Alyssa and Doug. A catalyst was born in the new song Riverman's Daughter, a tale of love, loss, and hardship on the river that showcases Alyssa's bountiful voice. Backed by her own rhythm guitar, along with the strong current of Doug's cascading accompaniment on the six string, and traditional vocal harmonies, the track came in a lightning bolt of inspiration. A vision and calling to write more songs of its kind took hold.
Alyssa and Doug had an idea: What if they put their city lives on hold and, armed with just guitars and backpacks, traveled the 2,500 miles of highways and byways of the Mississippi River from Minnesota to Louisiana. Light out for the territory, so to speak, like Huck and Jim. There, the duo could follow the Great River Road (GRR) that parallels the waterway, meet the people, and hear first-hand where European folk music, brought to these shores generations ago, took root alongside rhythms and chants from Africa, and how these polarizing sounds formed the backbone of our 20th Century American musical heritage. And so The Grahams did just that, and in the process created their debut album, Riverman's Daughter. Along the way The Grahams played gigs at the various gin and juke joints that dotted the GRR, and met a colorful cast of characters and genuine music makers with whom the duo shared and exchanged stories through the common bond of song.
Eventually Alyssa and Doug ended up intentionally isolated on an old houseboat in rural Louisiana where the Mississippi spills into the Atchafalaya swamp. There, The Grahams prolifically stockpiled songs, enjoyed the simplicity of living off the grid, and for a spell, invited onboard friends and musicians including their longtime collaborator Bryan McCann, a wordsmith who aids with lyrical inspiration. Yet perhaps the biggest inspiration on Riverman's Daughter was Doug's own mother, Gigi, the matriarch of the Graham family clan, and a true fan of the duo who had been diagnosed with cancer earlier that year. As her condition worsened, the Grahams packed up their guitars and newly minted collection of songs to become Gigi's angel band, and played by her side until she passed away.
As recording of the new album began, The Grahams found a true kindred spirit in Grammy-winning producer Malcolm Burn, who brought a magical touch and inspired ideas into the studio. It was Burn's idea to record both Alyssa and Doug's parts live to tape without the assistance of headphones or isolation -- in the way they were written. This process gives the album a natural aura that harkens back to an era when this practice was commonplace. Along the same lines, The Grahams chose to record the album in Nashville, the longtime epicenter of country music. While the album's foundation is simple and acoustic, The Grahams are backed on a few tracks by stellar accompaniment including the Grammy-nominated North Mississippi Allstars. Along with the title song the album is highlighted by the 70's country rock flavored Carrying The Torch, the spirited traditional vibe of The Piney River, and the riveting upbeat barn dance playfulness of Revival Time.
Ultimately, the album is a winning culmination of The Grahams' long journey into the heart of America, the inspiration they derived from immersion into classic American music, and the natural and honest talent they have for bringing forth a modern musical idiom steeped in tradition.1. Revival Time

ElwanFor the last five years, Tinariwen have been busy criss-crossing the globe bringing their
triumpant tours to all five continents and expanding their audience. During this time their
beloved homeland in the Adrar des Ifoghas, a Saharan mountain range that straddles the
border between north-eastern Mali and southern Algeria has, in effect, been transformed
into a conflict zone, a place where nobody can venture without putting themselves in danger.
These conflicts have forced the band into exile to record their 8th album, Elwan.
Elwan means 'the elephants ' - an animal metaphor to describe those 'beasts', whether
militias or multinational consortiums, who have trampled everything in their path: in the
desert, where both the human and ecological equilibriums are extremely fragile.
Tinariwen chose to record this album is several locations around the world, including for 4
days at the desert hideaway of Rancho De La Luna studio in Joshua Tree, CA, the studio
known as a favored refuge for many an eclectic artist from Queens of the Stone Age to
Daniel Lanios to Arctic Monkeys to Iggy Pop and more. For Tinariwen, the geographical
location of the studio proved to be particularly propitious in terms of creativity. And the
human climate was just as favorable.
A few friends dropped in during the sessions to add some magic to a few tracks including,
Kurt Vile (electric guitar), Mark Lanegan ( Vocals on 'Nànnuflày'), Matt Sweeney (electric
guitar) and producer/guitarist, Alain Johannes (Cigarbox guitar). Sessions were also
recorded in Morocco, where the band were accompanied by local musicians, in a land
where they are considered musical legends.
Lovers of those sensual yet abrasive riffs that are Tinariwen's signature won't be disappointed.
But neither will those who love their funky, danceable side, which comes through
loud and clear. All that potential has been wonderfully honed by the album's mixing engineer
Andrew Schepps, known well for his work with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Johnny
Cash, and Jay Z.1. Tiwàyyen
