CleopatraTwo-time Grammy nominated band The Lumineers have returned with the follow-up to their platinum-selling debut album. Following many years honing their craft, the Denver-based trio found success on the strength of their songwriting, melodies, and timeless approach, which lead to sold out arenas, massive festival slots, the cover of Billboard Magazine and appearances on Saturday Night Live, Ellen, The Tonight Show, The Late Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Austin City Limits and Conan.
The Lumineers' new album Cleopatra is the natural continuation of the sound audiences all over the world fell in love with; it's the sound of a band who hasn't let success change who they are, a band that still leaps into the crowd for a sing-along, a band making music to bring people together.1. The LumineersIn 2011, an eponymous, self-recorded EP led to touring, and before long The Lumineers started attracting devout fans. They're drawn by songs like Ho Hey and Stubborn Love, Americana-inflected barn burners in the vein of the Avett Brothers and Mumford & Sons. The roots revival of the last few yeas has primed listeners for a new generation of rustic, heart-on-the-sleeve music. From The Hills Below The CityHoundmouth is comprised of four musicians from New Albany, IN, across the
river from Louisville - hence 'From the Hills Below the City.' Matt Myers (guitar/
vocals), Katie Toupin (keyboard/vocals), Zak Appleby (bass/vocals) and Shane
Cody (drums/vocals) spent the past year building a passionate following in their
hometown and touring with the Alabama Shakes, the Lumineers, Grace Potter,
and the Drive-By Truckers. "Houndmouth is a great young band," testifies Patterson Hood of the Truckers. "They 'brought it' each and every night. They were
extremely popular with our fanbase and our band. I look forward to hearing what
they do next."
The 12 original songs on 'From The Hills Below the City' are packed with tales
of down-on-their-luck drug runners, casinos, riverboats, recession-era scraping,
and more. All members of Houndmouth sing, "leading with individual character
and harmonizing in saloon-choir empathy," writes Rolling Stone's David Fricke,
and their songs have a loose-limbed swing, anchored by a sturdy rhythm and a
cagey melodic sensibility.

Falling Faster Than You Can RunWell, it doesn't take long for Falling Faster Than You Can Run to reveal that Nathaniel Rateliff isn't in a very good place. His deep funk is revealed very quickly on the opening track 'Still Trying': "If you roll in it long enough/your shit won't even smell" sings Rateliff, in between crying out, unaccompanied, "I don't know/I don't know/a god damned thing".
And that's the feeling that sticks throughout this, often very fine, new record from Denver, Colorado's Missouri-born Rateliff. On his second full-length album (dropping the & the Wheel from his name) loneliness is writ large: not the kind of loneliness from actually being along, but the kind that comes from being constantly surrounded by people yet unable to shake the feeling of complete isolation. Rateliff has toured with many, many acts over the past few years and most recently has spent time with Dr Dog and fellow Denver act (and friends) The Lumineers. Thankfully, Rateliff rarely sounds like his friends (you might say I'm not a fan) and instead writes and plays music with a lot of heart and soul. It's often his voice that's the star of the show thanks to the subtly-arranged instrumentation: part matured Kurt Wagner burr and part throat-ravaged bluesman ( a bit The Tallest Man on Earth) it's a voice you could listen to all day. But good voice is nothing without good songs, and Rateliff comes with plenty of ammunition on Falling Faster Than You Can Run.
"Still Trying" is an arresting opener; while Rateliff's heart-wrenching roars are the highlight, the backing isn't too shabby either - acoustic guitar and bass drum battle for the spotlight on a ragged country song, and it sounds authentic, like Rateliff has lived what he's singing. And things get better quickly: "I Am" is mostly just Rateliff and his guitar, as broaches his isolation singing: "you'll never know what's buried there / less you dig around". The music swells as he sings the title over and over, following a similar pattern to the album opener. But before things get too familiar, Rateliff picks up the pace with a couple of full band numbers that could almost be considered jaunty, if we were to ignore the lyrics. "Don't Get Too Close" is fine enough and ticks over nicely like a quickstep, but "Laborman" is even better. Like Wilco at their poppiest, it flies off on crunchy and bright electric guitars which belies the lyrical content: "I got a feelin' / a sleepin' depression / that somebody's gonna get hurt", sings Rateliff, followed by "you got the harness/so where you gonna drag me now?" You can see a pattern developing here; Rateliff's stuck somewhere he doesn't want to be, lonely, but how does he get out of it? Take another look at that album cover too - a couple share a bed, an arm reaches out yet it doesn't touch the other person. It's basically a visual encapsulation of what's being sung about.
The epic electric storm of "Forgetting Is Believing" leads a trio of great closing tracks, ending with the Lambchop-murmur of the title track. Rateliff's baritone is exposed and dusty as he sings "leave me alone/you can see me fall/faster than you can run", ending as he started the record - alone and isolated.
Falling Faster Than You Can Run feels, through the dirt, the shit and the whisky, and despite the loneliness, like a hard-earned triumph for Nathaniel Rateliff.

The Ash & ClayThe Ash & Clay culminates a whirlwind first year of the Milk Carton Kids' existence. In that short time the duo of Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan have built a vibrant following with the simple purity of their music: touring with the Lumineers, Old Crow Medicine Show, Punch Brothers, and KD Lang; appearing on NPR's Tiny Desk concert series; charming audiences with their deadpan on-stage humor (riffing on the Smothers Brothers for young fans who have never heard of the Smothers Brothers); offering their debut album for free to willing fans - over 110,000 downloaded - from their website; and grabbing press acclaim usually reserved for veteran artists. A sweetly dazzling variation on closeharmony vocals, part Simon and Garfunkel and part Everly Brothers, with occasional acoustic prestidigitation," proclaimed The New York Times. With three new Milk Carton Kids songs - "Snake Eyes," "The Ash & Clay" and "The Jewel of June" - featured in the new Gus Van Sant film Promised Land starring Matt Damon, 2013 looks to be a big year for these Kids.

These Changing Skies (Awaiting Repress)The five members of Elephant Revival share a deep commitment to certain ideals: community, recognizing one's place in the flow of the natural world, harmony. Holding on to those ideals in the midst of heady career growth and strong individual
creative forces could be difficult, but they weather these storms with aplomb, and in doing so, have produced their best album to date. It is a document about striving for transcendence under These Changing Skies which was recorded at legendary
Bear Creek Studio in Woodinville, WA and was produced and mixed by Ryan Hadlock (The Lumineers, Brandi Carlile, The Walkmen).
Elephant Revival formed on the banks of Spring Creek in Tahlequah, Oklahoma and then relocated to Nederland, Colorado in fall of 2006. They loved one another's sense of shared values and the way that their disparate musical influences began to form a more cohesive tapestry the more they played together.

The DeslondesHailed by NPR as "deft assemblers of a sound that traverses decades and styles with humble grace," New Orleans band The Deslondes mine from the rich history of American music to craft their compelling and wholly unique eponymous debut album, released on New West Records.
Co-produced by the band and in-demand producer Andrija Tokic (Benjamin Booker, Alabama Shakes, Hurray for the Riff Raff) at his Nashville studio The Bomb Shelter, the 12 tracks are influenced by classic soul, rock 'n' roll, R&B, folk, roots country, swamp-boogie, honky-tonk and pre-war music and introduce a collective of gifted singer-songwriters with a deep love for the past and a palpable passion for the present. "They manage to resurrect a lost sound, exclaimed Rolling Stone in their "20 Reasons To Love This Year" preview, adding, "Stax and Sun records are distinct touch points, as are upright-bass-driven melodies - while giving it a modern, vibrant swing, building on the foundations of old-time traditions without sounding like they're stepping out of a time machine."
Comprised of five distinct songwriting voices, The Deslondes endeavor to carry on the traveling troubadour tradition of their heroes Woody Guthrie, Hank Williams and Townes Van Zandt. The Deslondes have also toured the country extensively and have supported the Alabama Shakes, Old Crow Medicine Show, Hurray for the Riff Raff, The Lumineers, John Fullbright, Michael Kiwanuka, Spirit Family Reunion and performed at last summer's Newport Folk Festival.1. Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?They say there's no time like the present; what they really mean is there's no such thing as the present. Five seconds into the future will be five seconds in the past once you finish reading this sentence. Translated into rock 'n' roll, terms, it means you're either ahead of your time or past your prime. And we're cool with that. We like categories and demographics and timelines because they allow us not to think; everything can be explained with the check of a box or a dot on a graph. But Metric don't let you off that easy. Their measures are decidedly cubist: eternal, multilayered portraits of instantaneous moments, the luminous blur of street life rendered as a freeze-tableaux, daily rituals portrayed in a fantastical light. This is music born out of sly, considered observation instead of gratuitous introspection - which makes it refreshingly anomalous in an era when so much popular music fudges the line between self-absorption and self-parody. Their debut album, OLD WORLD UNDERGROUND, WHERE ARE YOU NOW? launched Metric's career and helped to usher in a wave (or New Wave) of Canadian indie bands such as Broken Social Scene and Arcade Fire. They have since gone on to sell over a million singles and 500,000 albums worldwide. Finally available on vinyl, the album sounds as urgent and timeless today as it did in 2003 and like all of Metric's music to date, OLD WORLD UNDERGROUND, WHERE ARE YOU NOW? isn't so much a summation of influences as experiences. The old world underground they so romanticize; they're not sure if it ever truly existed.1. IOU

SlowmotionaryEthan Gruska's solo debut, the luminous Slowmotionary, embraces a range of sounds and styles, with influences from jazz and folk to ambient and alternative, Slowmotionary integrates everything into a whole that is original, idiosyncratic and embraces its own imperfections. I really tried to let that humanity in and to not only leave these quirky blemishes in, but to highlight them, says Gruska. I didn't want perfect. I wanted true. I wanted honest. He made room for a little serendipity in his creative process, sensing that too calculated an approach would diminish the impact of the music. That spontaneity provided a wonderful counterpoint to his thoughtful and revealing lyrics. Showcasing Gruska's hushed vocals and subtle arrangements, these songs resonate with the intimacy of an internal monologue, as though we're sharing in his darkest worries.
The goal was to have it be like a sound collage that I had made. It was really exploratory, with a lot of sampling and reversing-techniques I had tried in the past but had never gotten to fully explore. The results are beautifully minimalist: songs as whispered confidences, with what Gruska calls an arctic sound, windswept and cold, befitting lyrics that depict moments frozen in time. I didn't want to hide behind anything. That's why it's produced and arranged the way it is. It's very barren at certain moments. These songs slow down time for me, which is why I called it Slowmotionary. I needed to put myself out there musically and lyrically.
And that meant not making it perfect. It meant making these songs sound like the results from something other than a studio. It meant conveying the sense of music that is being written at the same moment you hear it. A lot of the record is mysterious, even to me. It's not something you always tap your foot to. Two-time Grammy Award winners and Grand Ole Opry members Old Crow Medicine Show release Best Of, which features
12 of the most memorable and beloved songs from O.C.M.S. (2004), Big Iron World (2006), Tennessee Pusher (2008) - as well
as two previously unreleased tracks: "Black Haired Quebecoise" and "Heart Up In The Sky." The album will be made
available on vinyl, a format on which none of these songs are currently available and many have never been.
Over the past 15 years, Old Crow Medicine Show has cultivated a diverse fan base that thrives on the band's energetic
performances. They have earned the respect of both their peers and influences while also influencing the new guard of
folk rock revivalists. While trends have come and gone, Old Crow Medicine Show continues to be a strong and steady
force in roots music. The Best Of is a nostalgic walk down memory lane for those who have been with the band since
the beginning, and a nice overview for those fans who have only discovered the band recently.
Old Crow Medicine Show got their start by busking on street corners up and down the east coast and Canada, eventually
catching the attention of folk icon Doc Watson while playing in front of a pharmacy in Boone, North Carolina. He invited
them to play Merlefest and helped set the course of their successful career.
Similarly, just a few years later, Nettwerk discovered the band by crashing a house party in Nashville. The band was signed
shortly after, and in 2004, Nettwerk released O.C.M.S., which featured the now Platinum-selling anthem "Wagon Wheel," one
of the most covered recordings in recent history, most famously by Darius Rucker who got the track to #1 on the Hot Country
Songs chart in 2013.
Old Crow Medicine Show has won over audiences across the world with their boundless energy and spirit, playing renowned
festivals like Bonnaroo, Coachella, New Orleans Jazz Fest, the Newport Folk Festival, and many more. They've also shared
the stage with such artists as Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers, Willie Nelson, John Prine and The Avett Brothers and others.
The Best Of features "Wagon Wheel" along with other live show fan favorites like "Tell It To Me," "Down Home Girl," "CC Rider"
and "I Hear Them All." The two previously unreleased tracks, "Black Haired Quebecoise" and "Heart Up in the Sky" were

I Am The CosmosClear Colored Vinyl
I Am the Cosmos is an enduring testament to the brilliance of Chris Bell; lyrically poignant and melodically stunning, this lone solo album is proof positive of his underappreciated pop mastery. While cuts like Get Away, I Got Kinda Lost, and Fight at the Table recall the glowing, energetic power pop of Bell's earlier work, the majority of the songs on I Am the Cosmos are more reflective and deeply personal; the title track is a harrowingly schizophrenic tale of romantic despair, while other cuts like the lurching Better Save Yourself and the lovely Look Up are infused with a spiritual power largely missing from his Big Star material.
The album's highlight, You and Your Sister -- which features backing vocals from none other than Bell's Big Star mate Alex Chilton -- is simply one of the great unknown love songs in the pop canon, a luminous and fragile ballad almost otherworldly in its beauty.

Centipede HzCentipede Hz was co-produced by Animal Collective and Ben H. Allen III and recorded at Sonic Ranch studios in Tornillo TX (outside of El Paso) by Ben H. Allen III and mixed at Maze Studios in Atlanta, GA by Ben H. Allen III.
Centipede Hz is the tenth full length Animal Collective album following the widely celebrated Merriweather Post Pavilion (2009) and also the first since Strawberry Jam (2007) to feature all four original band members: Avey Tare, Panda Bear, Geologist and Deakin. As the album's opening bars of drum crashes and radio interference on "Moonjock" immediately make clear, having returned as a four piece, Animal Collective have made their most widescreen and fully realized music to date.
Once touring for Merriweather Post Pavilion was concluded at the end of 2009, Animal Collective released their visual album Oddsac on DVD. The film was also screened internationally at theaters and film festivals. The band created Transverse Temporal Gyrus, an installation for the Guggenheim Museum in New York City and subsequently released a 12" single of the performance and launched a website to distribute music from the event. The period between Merriweather Post Pavilion and Centipede Hz also saw the release of two solo albums: Avey Tare's Down There (2010) and Panda Bear's Tomboy (2011).
Regrouping as a four piece with original member Deakin once more in the band, Animal Collective reconvened in their native Baltimore in January-March of 2011 to write material for Centipede Hz with a further session later in the year. Rather than swapping ideas over the internet and file-sharing Animal Collective were, for the first time in many years, exchanging ideas in the same room by playing live instruments.
As a result Panda Bear returned to playing a sit-down drum kit for the first time since Here Comes The Indian (2003) and Geologist began playing live keyboards again. Along with using some of the samplers and sequencers with which they had previously been writing, the sound of Centipede Hz draws on the dynamics and energy of Animal Collective playing together as a band. The return of Deakin is at its most marked in "Wide Eyed," a song that he wrote, featuring his first ever lead-vocal performance and whose title captures the mood of Centipede Hz perfectly.
Part of the inspiration for Centipede Hz included the band's memories of growing up listening to station announcements and commercials on the radio and imagining the after life of radio signals from the past, forgotten transmissions that are now lost in space and broadcasting music from other planets for other life forms. This is reflected in the sound of Centipede Hz, which features the white noise of radio interference and buried frequencies overlaid with the band's peerless melodic sensibilities and compositional methods. The result is a panoramic set of songs that shimmer with the confidence and wonder of Animal Collective's unique inner logic and the luminous warmth of their sound world.

Beethoven: Triple Concerto (Speakers Corner)
Why does the piano part seem comparatively simple in contrast to the violin and cello parts, which make the highest demands on the instrumentalists? And why on earth do three musicians play in concert with an orchestra? As interesting as these questions are with regard to Beethoven's cryptic Triple Concerto, there is a multitude of ways to approach this exceptional work by the great symphonist. In the gallantry of the expression, and keeping in mind the demand for playable parts for his invited circle of musical connoisseurs, Beethoven developed his very own concertante tonal language. This language is brought to life by Rudolf Serkin (piano), Jaime Laredo (violin) and Leslie Parnas (cello) in that they enter continually newly arranged dialogues and thereby offer the listener a warm palette of colours and melodies.
The orchestral antagonists - the Marlboro Festival Orchestra - weaves a chamber music-like, delicate and wonderfully transparent carpet of sound, upon which Beethoven's characteristic woodwind instruments are bedded like roses. Thanks to these attributes, this recording appears to take place in the luminous glow of a private house and thus conveys a charming yet stimulating atmosphere.

About Speakers Corner
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.$34.99180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl LP - Sealed Buy Now
