In TimeWith a Cuban-American lead singer, garage-band ferocity, an intense live show and a deep love of both romance and pure country to go with the polyrhythmic beats they were raised on, the Mavericks were unlikely superstars. And yet, they distilled country's essences, bulked them up with big, raucous sound, then broke ground for the format that saw people from all walks of life, many cultures and some surprising places lining up for hits like Here Comes The Rain, Crying Shame, Dance The Night Away and All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down.
Twenty years later, the little-band-that-could returns, more soulful and innovative than ever. For their first sessions in almost a decade, it was spontaneous combustion; literally, the band falling into step with the euphoria they were known for. And they built quite an album from there. It took life for us to get to this point - everybody was so free. From the first notes, it sounded like an explosion of sound; we went wehere the songs took us with a singularity of purpose. Tindersticks 1A thrilling debut for one of the most original British bands of the '90s. A romantic and elegant chamber pop masterpiece that mixes indie rock forms, the maverick pop song craft of a Lee Hazlewood and/or Van Dyke Parks, and the dark charm and hip romanticism of Ian Curtis, Scott Walker and Leonard Cohen.
While in the U.K. it was named album of the year (1993) by Melody Maker, in the U.S. Rolling Stone wrote: The 1st Tindersticks album draws inspiration from the playful narrative style of producer Lee Hazlewood, the Cinemascope orchestrations of John Barry and the twilight-zone claustrophobia of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. 180 gram vinyl in a gatefold sleeve.1. In The Pink Of ConditionRecorded at Seahorse Sound Studios in LA and produced by long-time cohort, fellow Welsh ÉmigrÉ and musical maven Cate le Bon, In the Pink Of Condition is his 3rd album, following 2010's A Cup Of Salt and 2011's The Strange Uses Of Ox Gall.
An album of "strange pop" (words borrowed from Huw) it's a controlled explosion of lazer-guided guitar melody - think a careering Television show or Pavement outside the original site of Spillers - and whip smart bi-lingual wordplay.
Although reluctant to cite a shopping list's worth of influences, Huw nods to two permanent inspirations - the maverick U.S. author Richard Brautigan (the Hawkline name appropriated from Brautigan's 1974 'gothic western' The Hawkline Monster) and a just-turned-solo Paul McCartney (Huw namechecks Ram, an album coincidentally recorded when the once-and-future Beatle was also twenty-nine). From the former, a wistful ways with words - songs constructed as slices of life, surrealist observations on the everyday. From the latter - what else would one ask for other than a just smidgeon of MCCartney's six sense for abundant, tumbling melody?1. Sticky Slithers

Tomorrow Is The Question! The springboard in Ornette Coleman's pursuit of freedom of expression as a soloist, Tomorrow Is The Question! is notable for its lack of piano, which the
saxophone maverick chose to strike from the record in favor of a quartet composed of drummer Shelly Manne, trumpeter Don Cherry, and alternatingly
Percy Heath and Red Mitchell on bass. Coleman's belief was that removing piano and thus layers of harmonic structure, would allow the soloists to truly
roam freely around the tune, pioneering new dimensions in sonic interplay. As a result, Tomorrow Is the Question! was a very literal title; where would
Coleman's iconoclastic vision take him next? The free-jazz pioneer was just getting started, and what a dazzling start it is! This essential document of
American Jazz History is now available on vinyl.1. Tomorrow Is The Question!

Dynamite StepsGreg Dulli and Co. Return With Their Most Ambitious, Cohesive Record to Date
Extraordinary Singing and Transcendent Arrangements
Whenever youre here, youre alive are the first words sung on Dynamite Steps, the fifth album from Greg Dullis Twilight Singers collective, and the groups first in five years. The Twilight Singers previous release, the acclaimed confessional opus Powder Burns, came out in 2006.
Dynamite Steps is clearly the next chapter, a whole new level of catharsis and progress, evocatively cramming all the highs and lows of the maverick singer/songwriters past half-decade into unexpected sonic trapdoors. Shot on location at various locales significant to Dullis life, you can hear the sense of place emanating up from the grooves of Dynamite Steps. Here, the weary nighttime decadence of New Orleans rubs up against the oppressive sunshine of Los Angeles and the desolation of Joshua Trees desert vistas.
Dynamite Steps explores the thin line between life and death, mortality and immortality, resignation and celebration that mythical moment when your life flashes before your eyes, drawn out here over the course of eleven songs. The albums forty-three minutes prove an unflinching odyssey through the dark side, but one thats ultimately redemptive in its scope and power.1. Last Night in Town

The New America (Pre-Order)For the unrelenting and demonstrably vital crew of Bad Religion, the story of "the new America"
is about more than a distant point on our country's horizon, it's about a creative journey into the
heart of their own punk rock origins and thought-provoking purpose. The group's fifth label release,
THE NEW AMERICA was recorded on the Hawaiian island of Kauai with the famed Todd Rundgren in
the producer's chair.
For the group's singer and songwriter, Greg Graffin, Rundgren's participation in
the recording effectively brought him together with one of his musical heroes and life-long influences.
With the maverick rock star and one of the underground's true originals in the role of project mentor,
Graffin rose to new heights of creativity, performance, passion, and perspective. On dramatic rock
tracks ranging from the propulsive, riff-roaring "You've Got A Chance" and the high-flying anti-anthem
"New America," Graffin sings of a welling optimism tempered by stark reality.
The millennial moment is dramatically surveyed with such insightful numbers as the cyber-sexy "I Love My Computer" and
"A World Without Melody." At the same time, such songs as "Whisper In Time," "A Streetkid
Named Desire," and "1000 Memories" find Graffin taking an introspective walk through personal
crisis, powerfully related in embraceable, universal tones. In the process of moving forward to carve
out one of the band's most dynamically alluring, energized, and communicative albums of their now 20-year-long career, Graffin reunited with former
guitarist and one of Bad Religion's founding members, Brett Gurewitz, to write the driving, soaring (and tellingly-titled) "Believe It." The contributions mark
Gurewitz's first to a Bad Religion album since 1994's RIAA gold-certified STRANGER THAN FICTION.1. You've Got A Chance

MusicRanked 452/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Music is the eighth studio album by American singer-songwriter Madonna, released on September 19, 2000 by Maverick Records and distributed by Warner Bros. Records. Following the success of her previous album Ray of Light, she intended to embark in a tour. However, her record company encouraged her to return to the studio and record new music before going on the road. After filming the film The Next Best Thing, she began working on her new album, with producers like Mirwais Ahmadzaï, William Orbit, Guy Sigsworth, Mark Spike Stent and Talvin Singh. Music has an overall electronic and dance-pop vibe. However, the album also contains elements of rock, country and folk, also including the use of vocoder on many tracks, such as Nobody's Perfect.
Upon its release, the album received universal acclaim from critics, who praised Madonna's collaboration with Mirwais Ahmadzaï, as well as the album's musical creativity, however criticizing Madonna's collaborations with William Orbit, despite calling them catchy. It was nominated for a total of five Grammys at the 43rd Grammy Awards, although it eventually won only one award. Music debuted at number one in over 23 countries around the world, and was Madonna's first album to reach the top of the Billboard 200 in 11 years since Like a Prayer (1989), being certified three times platinum the Recording Industry Association of America. The album also peaked number one in the United Kingdom, being certified five times platinum.1. Music

HypnophobiaHypnophobia, the brand new album from 'baroque pop' prince and
Dutch producer/multi-instrumentalist Jacco Gardner, casts a majestic
and vibrant psychedelic spell that will hypnotise listeners at the point
dreams and reality meet.
Capturing a true sense of exploration, Hypnophobia combines
Gardner's newfound love of travel with his continued passion for
collecting and playing vintage instruments. A stunning exhibit of lush
instrumental tracks as well as songs that boast lyrics worthy of any
great pop number, the record features a Wurlitzer electric piano that
was purchased on tour, waltzing alongside mellotrons, harpsichords,
an Optigan, and an antique Steinway upright piano sold to Gardner by
a local church.
Akin to the sonic boom of maverick contemporaries John Maus, and
Tame Impala, his is a sound that holds fast next to fellow paisley
performers Syd Barrett and Curt Boettcher, with the airy dynamics of
Stereolab or Simon & Garfunkel. Yet what truly marks Gardner from
his musical ancestors and accomplices is his forward-thinking, hi-tech
approach; "Hypnophobia is the next step into an alternate reality
influenced by the present. I'm so inspired by today's technology that
many things I do were not possible in the past."1. Another You

Blues of Desperation (Awaiting Repress)GRAMMY-nominated blues-rock guitar icon Joe Bonamassa announces his 20160solo album, Blues of Desperation (J&R Adventures). Like his previous solo disc, 2014's Top 10 Billboard hit Different Shades of Blue, this record features all-original material, and it sees the maverick superstar guitarist, singer and songwriter tossing away the rule book as he continues to reinvent and redefine the blues-rock genre like no other artist working today.
I want people to hear my evolution as a blues-rock musician, says Bonamassa, somebody who isn't resting on accomplishments and who is always pushing forward and thinking about how music can evolve and stay relevant.
The writing sessions for Blues of Desperation took Bonamassa back to Nashville, where he'd composed Different Shades of Blue, to work with some of Music City's top tunesmiths, people like James House, Tom Hambridge, Jeffrey Steele, Jerry Flowers and Gary Nicholson.
These are some of the best guys in the business, Bonamassa raves. Lyrically, you'll hear the proverbial trains, mountains, valleys and other blues references about heartbreak and loneliness but there are also some poignant moments about getting away from the stressful, crazy demands of life and losing yourself with your special someone. I think anybody will be able to relate.
Bonamassa and his longtime producer Kevin Shirley (Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Journey) convened at Nashville's Grand Victor Sound Studios (formerly known as RCA Studio A), and during an intense, five-day period they recorded 11 galvanizing songs with a crack group of musicians including drummers Anton Fig and Greg Morrow, bassist Michael Rhodes, keyboardist Reese Wynans, horn players Lee Thornburg, Paulie Cerra and Mark Douthit, and background singers Mahalia Barnes, Jade McRae and Juanita Tippins.
Of his decade-long collaboration with Shirley, Bonamassa says, I can explain our relationship with one word - 'trust.' I completely trust in Kevin and his musical promptings. He pushes my musical ability by challenging me to not just rest on my laurels or settle for 'good.' He expects more out of the other musicians as well and will not hold back when he sees us falling back into our usual routine.
Which sometimes calls for unorthodox measures, says Shirley, who admits that his idea of augmenting Bonamassa's usual recording band with second drummer Morrow was engineered to ruffle Joe's feathers.
I wanted him to work a little harder, like in his early years, he says, so I brought in an additional drummer, just to throw the cat amongst the pigeons. Of the results, Shirley raves, Recording 'Blues of Desperation' is one of the most exciting recording projects I've done. What a joyful noise we made!
Blues of Desperation is Bonamassa's most powerfully diverse and boldly realized album yet, with the material ranging from the gutsy, gritty blues call to arms of This Train (Joe's guitar is set to rude throughout) to the elegant yet emotionally shattering ballad What I've Known for a Very Long Time to the soul-nourishing, acoustic-based Americana of The Valley Runs Low, on which Bonamassa's voice rises up majestically to meet Barnes, McRae and Tippins in gospel-like rapture. And then there's the bleary, tequila-soaked Drive, dripping with the kind of raw, wicked and unsettling sensuality that could make David Lynch green with envy.
Throughout the record, Bonamassa's epic guitar playing conjures up stirring benedictions and explosive exorcisms of sound. No Good Place For the Lonely features some of the guitarist's most cauterizing licks yet, and the walloping title track is a white-knuckled, six-string thrill ride guaranteed to jolt the senses. Guitar fans everywhere (like those who recently voted Bonamassa Best Blues Guitarist in Guitar World magazine by an overwhelming margin) will consider Blues of Desperation a treasure trove of axe riches.
There are some long solos on this record and even some mini-jams in the middle of a track where the band would just jive and crank it out, he says. [During those jams], we do a tip of the hat to Beck and Clapton from the '70s. I think guitar nerds and music fans like myself will love it.
Packed with unparalleled musicianship and teeming with the most enthralling collection of songs in Bonamassa's career, Blues of Desperation is guaranteed to knock out critics and fans alike. By exceeding his own vertiginously high artistic goals, Bonamassa is bound to shatter all other expectations with this record and reach new audiences - no mean feat when you continue his astonishing track record of hits now includes 15 #1 Billboard Blues Albums (more than any other artist in history). 2014's Different Shades of Blue debuted at #8 on Billboard's Top 200 Chart, making it his highest charting album, his first top 10 and accounting for his biggest sales week ever. In 2014, the guitarist received his first-ever Grammy nomination (for Best Blues Album) for the album Seesaw, his second collaboration with blues singing star Beth Hart, and was named 2014's Billboard Blues Artist of the Year.1. The Moray Eels Eat The Holy Modal RoundersLed by maverick folksters Peter Stampfel and Steve Weber, the Holy Modal Rounders were an eye-opening blend of Greenwich Village strum, Kentucky bluegrass and Appalachian drone-topped off with enough mind-altering chemicals to derail the Wabash Cannonball. The Rounders' 1968 masterpiece, The Moray Eels Eat The Holy Modal Rounders, spotlights The Bird Song, an infectious ditty used in the Easy Rider soundtrack, the squealing majesty of Werewolf and drug-addled ramblings like My Mind Capsized and The STP Song (it wasn't about that slippery engine oil). Sam Shepard, the Rounders drummer (and soon-to-be-acclaimed playwright), even muffs the words to the pledge of allegiance, transporting you to the era as surely as a truncheon to the head at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. Cortar TodoFor over fifteen years, Zu's modus operandi of straddling and abusing musical genres has resulted in over fifteen unique album releases across labels such as Ipecac, Atavistic and Headz (Japan). Their experimental amalgam of metal, math, no-wave, noise and electronics, led acclaimed composer John Zorn to describe their sound as a powerful and expressive music that totally blows away what most bands do these days.
In the running for the title of the world's hardest working band, Zu have performed over 1000 shows throughout Europe, US, Canada, Asia, Russia, Mexico and even Africa, touring with the like of Mike Patton (as the Zu/Patton quartet), also sharing the stage with Faith No More, Fantômas, The Melvins, Lightning Bolt, Sonic Youth, The Ex, and countless others. They have also collaborated with a vast number of musicians including Mike Patton, The Melvins, DÄlek, Jim O' Rourke, FM Einheit (Einsturzende Neubauten), Peter Brötzmann, Nobukazu Takemura, Eugene Robinson (Oxbow), Steve MacKay (The Stooges), The Ex, Thurston Moore, Stephen O Malley, Damo Suzuki (Can), Mats Gustafsson, NoMeansNo, Joe Lally (Fugazi).
Five years since their last full length on Ipecac, the critically acclaimed Carboniferous, and following a three year hiatus, Zu returned in May 2014 with the release of a brand new EP, Goodnight Civilization (Trost Records) and with a line up change that introduced the mighty Gabe Serbian, best known as the drummer for the legendary Californian band, The Locust.
In March 2015, Zu are preparing to release a brand new full length via Ipecac Recordings, entitled Cortar Todo, and recorded in the countryside near Bologna, Italy, in the summer of 2014. The album features some very special guests including keyboard player Joey Karam (The Locust), Italian guitar maverick Stefano Pilia (who plays regularly with the likes of Mike Watt, David Grubbs and Rokia Traore) and perhaps most unexpectedly, a field recording of an indigenous Shipibo medicine man recorded by Massimo during his travels around the Amazon.
Cortar Todo reveals new dynamics from the band, the album is more direct, sharp, focussed, and more intense and musical than anything we have heard from Zu so far. In addition to the album release, we can expect a long period of touring starting in Spring 2015.1. The Unseen War

Shhh. The command to be quiet is no just part of the title of one of the two sprawling compositions on this pioneering album. Its also an apt metaphor for the relaxed hypnotism and spaced-out atmosphere that define In a Silent Way, a record that pushes the boundaries of studio possibilities, artist-producer relationships, and rock-jazz chasms. Recognized as Miles Davis first full-on fusion effort and part of his electric era, the 1969 landmark claims a Whos Who lineup that sends the music into an ethereal stratosphere.
Part of Mobile Fidelitys Miles Davis catalog restoration series, In a Silent Way now immerses the listener in linoleate landscapes starlit by the intuition, suspension, and paradoxes wrought by a once-in-a-lifetime collective. Half-speed mastered from the original master tapes and pressed at RTI, this unsurpassed 180g LP edition lifts the veil on the cutting-edge assembly process that created the pair of lengthy suites. Helmed by three electric instruments, the beveled compositions melt away all preconceived notions of jazz, rock, and ambience, following a loose theory Davis dubbed New Directions.
Few albums are so delicately textured. And on Mobile Fidelitys meticulous analog reissue, such sulcate elements pour over ink-black backgrounds on a canyon-wide soundstage. In particular, Tony Williams inventive percussive touch he causes the cymbals to shimmer as a pieces of silver tend to do when exposed to sunlight is broadcast with lifelike three-dimensional qualities, the panoramic view extending to Davis nocturnal trumpet, Wayne Shorter's ribbon-unfurling saxophone, Dave Hollands extrapolative bass, and the mosaic of keys.
If the records only accomplishment is its introduction of guitarist John McLaughlin to the world, it alone would be enough. Yet In a Silent Way continues to bedazzle, puzzle, and inspire for myriad reasons not the least of which is the seemingly telepathic communicative methods employed by the groups members. The lineup is great on paper, but, if its even possible, the octet sounds even better in practice, with the instruments and tonalities conjoining in avant-garde communion like hyper-sensitive tentacles exploring the stippled landscapes of an undiscovered planet.
Diverting from expectation, tubular grooves twist, turn, and spin, sometimes piling atop of each other, always shying away from structure and melody. Ellipsoidal solos provide hesitant guidance, ranging from Chick Corea's Fender Rhodes phrases to Davis decorative spirals. And as color is the primary unit of currency on Davis Sketches of Spain, laidback episodes, geometric spaces, and quiet sensuality reign here, with the sets maverick reputation attained via musings on solitude rather than explosions of noise.
Controversial for the period, the heavily edited production of In a Silent Way blew open the once-locked doors on what producers could attempt and how artists could assist them. Knitted together as one would construct a cross-hatched quilt, songs contain grafts of repeat passages that provide unifying structure and experimental continuity. What a statement.

Inspiration Information: Amp Fiddler (Awaiting Repress)This autumn brings the launch of a priority new series on Strut as the label takes a break from its schedule of funky compilations and moves into new studio recordings for the first time. Entitled Inspiration Information, the series brings together current artists and producers with their musical heroes for a mouth-watering one-off collaboration. The series kicks off with Detroit soul maverick Amp Fiddler in a head-to-head with reggae legends, Sly Dunbar & Robbie Shakespeare. Our manager told us about Amp, says Robbie. We heard that he used to be part of the Funkadelic set-up. We were always right into the Parlia-Funkadelic sound, recalls Sly. Their brand of funk was so different. I loved it from their first record. Me and Bootsy Collins are good friends he played on one of our albums and I always loved Motown too, ever since I was a kid. That all brought us closer to Amp and the musical groove just stuck. We hit it off from the first session.1. Crazy Day
