Funk masters The Meters influenced many groups in Soul music, with their as-tight-as-a-metronome grooves, exciting interplay and infectious vocal group shouts.

The band released Rejuvenation in 1974, their best album to date. The crystal clear production was an improvement on the band's earlier works, maintaining their stripped down song structures and impeccable interlocked grooves while still leaving space for inspired jamming. Contains the hits Just Kissed My Baby, People Say and Hey Pocky-A-Way. The latter two songs are included as bonus tracks in their Single Version edits.

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, New Orleans's Meters churned out irresistible funk instrumentals that were distilled to their essence and intended to get people up and shaking. When the Josie label went bankrupt in 1971, the band moved over to the Reprise label and began to broaden their horizons, expanding their sonic palette and putting more emphasis on vocals. Cabbage Alley, their Reprise debut, finds them experimenting with tropical sounds (Soul Island), Allman Brothers-style guitar leads (Stay Away), Neil Young covers (Birds), and socially conscious lyrics (Lonesome and Unwanted People).

The Birth Of Funk (Awaiting Repress)

Nobody in New Orleans laid into the blues so low down and dirty as Buddy Bol-den, whose Funky Butt became a staple in the repertoire of the city's early jazz bands. Jacksonville, Florida, 1960. Charles 'Hungry' Williams mentors young Clayton Fillyau after he had just joined the James Brown band: 'I don't care where you put it on those drums, remember where '1' is and you'll never lose the time.' Listen to Hungry on Huey Smith's Talk To Me Baby and then listen to how Clayton turns it into a relentless breakbeat on James Brown's I've Got Money. Earl King's Trick Bag, prefiguring the Meters, is as good an example of early New Orleansfunk as can be found. Not everything on here was cut in New Orleans. New York singer Vernon Harrel's Slick Chick is held together by an intriguingly syncopated bass line that hints at late '60s Studio One dub. And in case you think any of this was new, listen to Zutty Singleton's drum break on Victoria Spivey's Funny Feathers from 1929. Or Earl Palmer's sixteenth notes, off-backbeat snare accents and double-tempo hi-hats in 1953 on Professor Longhair's Tipitina and Who's Foolin' You.

    Parking Lot Symphony

Trombone Shorty has announced the release of Parking Lot Symphony, his Blue Note Records debut. The album is a 12-track tour de force produced by Chris Seefried (Fitz and the Tantrums, Andra Day) featuring 10 new original songs along with covers of Allen Toussaint (Here Come The Girls) and The Meters (It Ain't No Use). True to its title, the album contains multitudes of sound-from brass band blare and deep-groove funk to bluesy beauty and hip-hop/pop swagger - and plenty of emotion all anchored, of course, by stellar playing and the idea that, even in the toughest of times, as he says, Music brings unity.

    These Are The JBs

The Unreleased Album By James Brown's Backing Band: The Bootsy Collins-lead JB's

Never-before-heard James Brown and J.B.'s originals and covers of Jimi Hendrix, Kool & the Gang, the Meters. Contains a 12-page booklet with full annotation, liner notes by Brown historian Alan Leeds and never-before-published photos.

This album is the Rosetta Stone of funk's dominant idioms, yet its existence has barely been a rumor. In 1970 James Brown perfectly captured a definitive moment in modern music when he ordered Bootsy Collins into the studio to record the tracks that would be test pressed on King Records as These Are The J.B.'s. This album is the epitome of funk music, Brown's innovation that influenced everything that came after it, from Afro-beat to disco to hip-hop. And if there is any funk ensemble as influential as Brown's, in the post-"Cold Sweat" musical landscape, it's the Parliament/Funkadelic contingent. Those two streams, as Grammy Winning James Brown historian Alan Leeds details in this album's liner notes, converged for the first time here.

This link between Brown's funk and all that followed features Bootsy and his young band running through twelve-minute instrumental take of Marva Whitney's "It's My Thing," replete with blues chord changes, alongside interpretations of the Meters, Kool and the Gang and none other than Jimi Hendrix. This is a young band's James Brown-turned-on-his-head style of funk that they nail in a one-minute vamp that pre-dates their obscure but important work as the Houseguests ensemble and embodies the essence of the psychedelic-flavored music that would propel them into the orbit of
George Clinton and his mothership, where they poked cosmic holes in funk's polyrhythmic ozone layer in the mid-1970s.

There are only two extant copies of the original King Records test press LP of These Are The J.B.'s. This, the first commercial issue of this album, was overseen by Now-Again's Egon alongside Leeds and Universal Music Group's James Brown expert Harry Weinger. It was mastered specifically for vinyl by Elysian Master's Dave Cooley from the original two-track stereo master that James Brown and his engineer Ron Lenhoff delivered to production forty-four years ago. It comes with a 12-page booklet with liner notes by Leeds and Egon and many unpublished photographs and ephemera.

    So Lonesome I Could Cry

The Hi recordings of Charlie Rich are in many ways the most reckless and adventurous of his career. In 1966 and 1967, Hi, a small Memphis label that hosted acts such as Willie Mitchell (and later Al Green) and the Bill Black Combo believed, like Sun, RCA, and Mercury before them, in Rich's prodigious talent but had no idea where to put him categorically. Most are the songs associated with Hank Williams. They are revelatory in that they reveal just how wide-ranging Rich's vision was. Beginning with Williams' own My Heart Would Know, Rich takes the songs deep into his own musical soul and, like Ray Charles before him with Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music, makes them his own, turning them into timeless pop classics. Among Rich's recordings, these 12 songs are some of the most enduring. There is You Win Again, where the pedal steel becomes an instrument of timbral control and coloration and the lyric becomes a shimmying doo wop-framed melody; Hey Good Lookin' sounds as if Rich is backed by Booker T. & the MG's and the Meters simultaneously. The cool Hammond B3 run at the beginning of Nobody's Lonesome for Me takes a honky tonk tune and turns it inside out, making it a rousing party anthem. As for Williams I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry, Rich's version is among the most beautiful and emotionally naked ever recorded. The set closes with Leon Payne's They'll Never Take Her Love Away From Me. As pedal steel guitar winds out the sang lines, Rich pours virtually everything he has into Payne's deeply moving lyric. This isn't merely a sad song, it's a devastating one; it's a suicide note; but the tenderness evoked by Rich makes it among the most beautifully twisted love songs ever performed. This collection is essential for Rich fans, and something to consider for any fan of timeless, restless country-soul from the 1960s. - Thom Jurek (All Music Guide)

    Blues In My Bottle

The great Lightnin' Hopkins was one of the most natural of bluesmen-a poet who would often make up lyrics as he recorded. Because his meters and chord changes were frequently irregular, he was at his best when
unaccompanied, as on this 1961 Prestige date. Besides such blues standards as Wine Spodee-O-Dee, Blues in
the Bottle, and Catfish Blues, the album contains originals, including Beans, Beans, Beans about his stint on a railroad track gang and D-7 about his aversion to flying.

Different Connection Types & Longer Lengths Available Upon Request

Note: All cables in our Bridges & Falls Series place their left and right channels in a single jacket, and feature our Asymmetrical Double-Balanced geometry with separate high-quality positive and negative conductors. This design allows for a thin, flexible, and uniquely versatile high-performance cable that can be terminated with a variety of today's connections, including 3.5mm (male or female), DIN, and RCA. In Bridges & Falls, you'll find better metals and more sophisticated technologies - including Air-Tube insulation, Dielectric-Bias System, and Noise-Dissipation System - at lower prices than ever before. Do keep in mind, however, that, by necessity, the plugs on Bridges & Falls cables are fairly close together. If the L and R inputs of your components are more than 3 (7.6cm) apart, please consider models from our Rivers or Elements Series.

The Evergreen Point Floating Bridge connects Seattle, Washington (USA) to the Bellevue area across Lake Washington. Since opening in 1963, its 2,285 meters (7,497 ft) makes it the longest floating bridge in the world. The structure includes 33 pre-stressed concrete pontoons averaging 110 meters (360 ft) long and 18 meters (60 ft) wide.

SOLID LONG-GRAIN COPPER (LGC) CONDUCTORS: Solid conductors eliminate strand-interaction distortion. Evergreen's solid Long-Grain Copper allows a smoother and clearer sound than cables using regular OFHC (Oxygen-Free High-Conductivity) copper. OFHC is a general metal industry specification regarding "loss" without any concern for distortion. LGC has fewer oxides within the conducting material, less impurities, less grain boundaries, and definitively better performance.

FOAMED-POLYETHYLENE INSULATION: Any solid material adjacent to a conductor is actually part of an imperfect circuit. Wire insulation and circuit board materials all absorb energy (loss). Some of this energy is stored and then released as distortion. Evergreen uses air-filled Foamed-Polyethylene Insulation on both conductors because air absorbs next to no energy and Polyethylene is low-loss and has a benign distortion profile. Thanks to all the air in Foamed-PE, it causes much less of the out-of-focus effect common to other materials.

METAL-LAYER NOISE-DISSIPATION SYSTEM (NDS): 100% shield coverage is easy. Preventing captured RF Interference from modulating the equipment's ground reference requires AQ's Noise-Dissipation System. Noise-Dissipation System prevents a significant amount of RFI from reaching the equipment's ground plane.

ASYMMETRICAL DOUBLE-BALANCED GEOMETRY: Purpose designed for single-ended applications, Asymmetrical Double-Balanced Geometry offers a relatively lower impedance on the ground for a richer, and more dynamic experience. While many single-ended cable designs use a single path for both the ground and the shield, Double-Balanced designs separate the two for cleaner, quieter performance.

COLD-WELDED, GOLD-PLATED TERMINATIONS: This plug design allows for a connection devoid of solder, which is a common source of distortion. Because the ground shells are stamped instead of machined, the metal can be chosen for low distortion instead of machinability.

    Fozgometer Azimuth Range Finder

The FOZGOMETER represents a breakthrough for adjusting phono system azimuth.

To obtain high performance from a modern phonograph system, the tonearm and pickup cartridge must be properly adjusted to within a few thousands of an inch. There are several alignment gauges available to adjust overhang and offset. To adjust cartridge azimuth (Axial Tilt), it has been necessary to use lab quality equipment and a test record. Azimuth may be adjusted using an oscilloscope, AC voltmeter, or computer program. These methods can be expensive and time consuming.

The FOZGOMETER incorporates a "Log Ratio Detector" developed for surround processor steering logic circuits to measure channel separation over a wide range of signal levels down to -70 dB. The readings are virtually independent of overall signal levels, and can be made with a wide range of input signals without effecting accuracy. It is a small portable battery powered unit that is used in conjunction with a test record. It measures channel separation, channel balance, and signal direction quickly and accurately. Readings are taken without touching the meter, leaving your hands free to work with the tonearm. The meter reads channel separation in both directions, and channel balance. The LED's indicate Left, Center, and Right signal (test tone) positions.

    The Happiness Project

The Broken Social Scene Presents Series, in which the core members of the many-membered Canadian co-op release solo albums from under the safety of the band's umbrella, has, thus far, delivered a couple of releases that haven't fallen far from the BSS tree. Charles Spearin's The Happiness Project is the most unique release in the series so far and it began as a number of interviews, in which Spearin would talk to his friends and neighbors ranging in age and culture about, essentially, the subject of happiness. Working from these recordings, Spearin used the cadence, rhythm and intonation of these voices and then recruited musicians to play a singular instrument in a fashion that matches the meter and melody of these spoken conversations.

    Mo Beauty

Mo Beauty is the debut solo release from celebrated singer/songwriter Alec Ounsworth, who earned acclaim with his band Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. The album was produced by veteran musician/producer and fellow Philadelphia native Steve Berlin (Los Lobos, Blasters, John Lee Hooker, The Replacements), who initially suggested a New Orleans setting for recording. Working with some of the city's most storied musicians, including George Porter of The Meters on bass, Ounsworth has crafted a collection of songs that pick up where Clap Your Hands Say Yeah leave off. Mo Beauty carries on the band's vein of quirky humor, unabashed melody, and sonic experimentation, but with the weight of New Orleans and its history hovering over the recording, Ounsworth has dug deep on songs like Holy, Holy, Holy Moses (song for New Orleans), while tracks like South Philadelphia groove in a whole new way.

Mo Beauty features George Porter, Jr. on bass, Stanton Moore on drums, Robert Walter on keys, and Matt Sutton on baritone and pedal-steel guitars, with additional help from members of the talented New Orleans community.

    Wanted Dead Or Alive

    First release of 1979 concert.

The New Barbarians were a rock band that played two concerts in Canada and eighteen shows across the United States in April and May 1979. One of which was in Oakland, Ca. in the Coliseum Arena where the Golden State Warriors have played, May 1979. In August 1979, the band also supported Led Zeppelin at the Knebworth Festival 1979.

The group was formed and led by Rolling Stones and Faces guitarist Ronnie Wood, primarily to promote his latest LP Gimme Some Neck. The line-up included Rolling Stones member Keith Richards, bassist Stanley Clarke, former Faces keyboardist Ian McLagan, Rolling Stones confederate and saxophonist Bobby Keys and drummer Joseph Zigaboo Modeliste of The Meters. For the Knebworth show Clarke was replaced on short notice by bassist Phillip Chen, who had to learn all the songs in one day.

The band played a mix of classic rock & roll, R&B, blues and country music, along with Ron Wood solo material and Jagger/Richards songs. Wood sang lead on most numbers (with Richards, McLagan and Clarke providing back-up vocals), as well as playing guitar, pedal steel, harmonica and saxophone.

    Take Ten

Limited, Numbered Edition Of 1,500 Copies

Pressed On Audiophile-grade 180 Gram Vinyl At
    Pallas Group In Germany

Mastered From Original Analog Tapes By Bernie
    Grundman

Features Jim Hall On Guitar And Connie Kay On
    Drums

Everyone wanted Desmond to come up with a sequel to the monster
hit "Take Five"; and so he did, reworking the tune and playfully
designating the meter as 10/8. Hence "Take Ten," a worthy sequel with
a solo that has a Middle-Eastern feeling akin to Desmond's famous
extemporaneous excursion with Brubeck in "Le Souk" back in 1954.
It was here that Desmond also unveiled a spin-off of the then-red-hot
bossa nova groove that he called "bossa antigua" (a sardonic play-on-words meaning "old thing"), which laid the ground for Desmond's
next album and a few more later in the decade. Jim Hall now gets
plenty of room to stretch out, supported by Connie Kay's gently
dropped bombs, and he is the perfect understated swinging foil for
the wistful altoist. There is not a single track here that isn't loaded with
ingeniously worked out, always melodic ideas. Now Take Ten finally
gets the audiophile treatment it deserves, with this 180gram reissue,
mastered from original analog tapes by Bernie Grundman. Each copy
of this limited edition release is numbered with a gold foil stamp.

Lee Dorsey began his career as a lightweight boxer in the early 1950s and moved on to become an influential African American pop and R&B singer during the 1960s.

His successful period began when he met songwriter and record producer Allen Toussaint with whom he recorded several songs like Ya Ya, Working In The Coalmine, Ride Your Pony and many more which all charted in the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

In 1970 Dorsey recorded the Yes We Can album again with Allen Toussaint together with the support band The Meters. Several of the songs were covered by major artists who scored hits with them later that decade; Yes We Can by The Pointer Sisters and Sneakin' Sally Thru The Alley by Robert Palmer. The other songs are straight up funky tracks and have a variety of styles and sounds. Included are the protest soul recording Who's Gonna' Help Brother Get Further and the somewhat hilarious comedy song Would You. All in all it stands as a great soul album for that time.

The Music On Vinyl edition is pressed on green vinyl and is available in a limited run of 1,000 individually numbered copies, including an insert with song lyrics.

The Original Sound Of New Orleans Soul 1960-76

For more than ten years Soul Jazz Records have been exploring and documenting the sound of New Orleans Funk. Now they turn their attention to the flipside of this musical coin - New Orleans Soul. The main force behind New Orleans Soul is Allen Toussaint, a virtual one-man hit-making machine in the 1960s, writing, arranging and producing hit after hit for an unending list of unbelievably talented local singers such as Eldridge Holmes, Maurice Williams, Betty Harris, Ernie K Doe and Diamond Joe all of whom are featured. New Orleans is also a city of great musical families. Vocalist Aaron Neville was the brother of Art Neville (who formed The Meters) and later in the 1970s joined with brother Cyril to form The Neville Brothers. Soul vocalist supreme Willie Tee is also known as Wilson Turbinton, who alongside brother Earl, formed the super-heavy funk band The Gaturs and backed the Mardi Gras Indian group The Wild Magnolias. Also included here are rare, lost and killer soulful tracks from New Orleans artists Eddie Bo (and protÉgÉe vocalist Inell Young), Jean Knight, Jimmy Hicks, Francine King and more!

Brasileiro won the 1992 Grammy Award for Best World Music Album. The album was released at June 17 in 1992.

Mendes went back to the taproots of his heritage, calling upon a plethora of explosive tracks from L.A. sessionmen and give the production a finished sheen. Combining Forro and Samba Reggae with Indiado stomps and shouts, What Is This is a romping Bahian take on Hiphop and grafts Portuguese vocals onto a swinging American Funk groove. And the unusual ¾-meter samba Pipoca is the creation of do-everything mystery man Hermeto Pascoal.

Mendes draws upon the giants and comers of Brazilian songwriting like Ivan Lins, Gilberto Gil, Joao Bosco, Carlinhos Brown, and Guinga. Mendes vocal blend is Gracinha Leporace who sounds more vibrant than ever. Bassist Sebastian Neto also returns to the Mendes fold.

    Stonedhenge

A Premium RTI Pressing, From The Original U.K. Mono Masters

Ten Years After's eponymous debut hit the door with a loud thud. Undead cracked it. And with 1969's Stonedhenge, they knocked it down with authority, stormed the palace and showed the world that they were indeed a major act. Stonedhenge was where Ten Years After really came into their own with originals. "Hear Me Calling" is brilliant modern blues on par with the best of early Fleetwood Mac, rising from a restrained beginning to all-out rocking before repeating the cycle one last time. "Going to Try" explores similar territory, even venturing into a Middle-Eastern inspired section underscored by randomized percussion overdubs and Chick Churchill's psychedelic organ. "Woman Trouble" is stirring jazzy blues, and on "No Title," the band really cuts loose - kicking off with a standard blues lament before unleashing a series of solos that are almost songs unto themselves: Alvin Lee's power-chord solo making way for Churchill's spooky organ making way for a badass jam between drummer Ric Lee and bassist Leo Lyons. The band was running like a freight train - and in fact, train noises grace the beginning of album finale "Speed Kills," a bluesy boogie that pushes the meter straight into the red before the thrill-ride literally comes to a screeching halt. But not before the album fully displays the band's world-class musicianship and songwriting, which made Stonedhenge a hit in the UK and gave Ten Years After their first-ever Billboard Top 100 entry, at a respectable #61 in April 1969. In turn, it paved the way for the band's acclaimed performance at Woodstock, which ensured regular placement on the album charts for years to come.

For now, dig the first vinyl reissue of the ultra-rare mono mix of Stonedhenge, housed in its original gatefold cover artwork and meticulously mastered for the most discerning listener.

Now Sundazed proudly presents the searing guitar of Alvin Lee & Chick Churchill's haunting organ textures as they were meant to be heard, from the original U.K. MONO masters and pressed on premium RTI vinyl!
