    Neighborhoods

Neighborhoods is the sixth studio album by the American rock band Blink-182, originally released September 27, 2011 through DGC Records and Interscope Records. Their first album of new material in eight years (the longest gap between albums to date), its recording followed the band's breakup and later reconciliation. Due to conflicts within the trio, the band entered an indefinite hiatus in 2005 and the members explored various side-projects. After two separate tragedies regarding the band and their entourage, the members of the band decided to reunite in late 2008, with plans for a new album and tour. It is the first Blink-182 album produced by the band members without the help of an outside record producer, as well as the final album with Tom DeLonge before his departure in 2015.

    Apple Core

Born in Arkansas and based in Olympia, Washington, Kendl Winter twists banjo and guitar into captivating melodies; Apple Core is her fourth solo album and first release for K. On this album apples represent temptation, a prize for beauty, a gift for knowledge, gravity, truth, autumn, and harvest. With its country roots, indie trunk, and sweet soulful sadness fruiting on the branches, Apple Core is fruitful to the core.

Self-recorded on both a boat in the Puget Sound and a basement in the west-side neighborhood of Olympia, Apple Core features isolated, haunting harmonies, laced with the fabrics woven by community, her guitar and her banjo. Kendl safety pins patches of piano and slide guitar on to the cloth, washes it in a lather of honest and provocative songs, and hangs it on the line to dry in the shy, unpredictable northwest sun.

    Haerts

The long-distance collaborative project Haerts came into formation when childhood friends Nini Fabi and Ben Gebert started working on music together in a small apartment in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn. Fabi had lived in Germany for a good portion of her life and met German native Gebert there when they were both on the same swim team as kids. The two set out for New York in 2010 and slowly accrued other bandmates in friends and like-minded artists stationed all over the globe, including Garrett Ienner, Derek McWilliams, and Jonathan Schmidt. Working internationally, the musicians sent files back and forth, toiling on their tracks and eventually sculpting an indie electro sound brightened by Fabi's Stevie Nicks-channeling vocals. In the fall of 2012 they debuted their track Wings online to great response. A year later the band's Hemiplegia EP was released on Columbia Records. This is their debut full length album.

    The Golden Echo

Kimbra is a New Zealand recording artist whose unique musical style draws from many different genres, often blending more modern electropop and R&B with classic jazz and soul musical elements. In 2013, Kimbra won 2 Grammys for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her song Somebody That I Used To Know with Gotye.

The Golden Echo is the second album by Kimbra. The ultimate modern pop record, The Golden Echo is ambitious, sophisticated, and complex, just like its creator. The New Zealand-born singer and songwriter wrote the songs in her bedroom studio on a farm in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, where she was surrounded by sheep and lambs owned by her landlady. The album is produced by Rich Costey and features several special guest artists, including Muse's Matt Bellamy, rapper Flying Lotus and singer John Legend.

    Carnival Electricos

Galactic was formed eighteen years ago in New Orleans; the band cut their teeth playing the biggest party in America, Mardi Gras, where the entire city shuts down completely to celebrate. Carnivale Electricos is the sound of that party, and much more. Its a carnival record that evokes the primal, electric atmosphere of a whole city vibrating together to one beat, in a seismic wave that runs from New Orleans down through the Caribbean to the southern hemisphere and the mighty mega carnivals of Brazil.

To make Carnivale Electricos, the members of Galactic drew on the skills, stamina, and funk they deploy in the all night party of their annual Lundi Gras show that goes till sunrise and leads sleeplessly into Mardi Gras day. Armed with a slew of carnival ready guests from high school marching bands to 72-year-old Al 'Carnival Time' Johnson, reworking his 1960 classic song that became the anthem of Mardi Gras, Galactic whisks the listener around the neighborhoods to feel the Mardi Gras moment in all its variety of flavors.

The Brazilian influence on Carnivale Electricos appears in three Brazilian-flavored instrumentals, including JuLou, which riffs on an old Brazilian tune, even though the name refers to the brass funk Krewe of Julu, the walking krewe that Galactic members participate in on Mardi Gras morning. Thats the kind of connection Galactic wanted to make with Carnivale Electricos, to draw together the carnival spirit of worldwide celebration into one ecstatic, funky union. Knowle West Boy

Tricky is back with a brand new album titled Knowle West Boy, named after the Bristol neighborhood where he grew up. The album finds Tricky seizing his roots and detailing the travels and travails of his youth, resulting in a record that acts as an eclectic aural history of his diverse upbringing. Produced by Tricky, and mixed by Switch (MIA, Santogold) Knowle West Boy was recorded in London and L.A. and is the summation of everything he has accomplished since his brilliant 1995 Maxinquaye debut. The album finds Tricky reaching into the post-punk, Two-Tone, reggae, hip hop and pop he grew up adoring and twisting it all into surreal songscapes. From the sardonic bar-room blues of Puppy Toy, to the twisted Specials-worshipping, hard charging punk of lead single Council Estate, to the bereft torchery of Past Mistake, to the Roxy Music's The Bogus Man-at-the-dancehall art-stomp of Bacative; Tricky uses his astonishingly eclectic band and a host of great undiscovered singers to create the most varied and accessible set of his career.

    Saint Bartlett

Saint Bartlett opens up with a grandiosity yet unheard on a Damien Jurado album. The album strips away the many layers of paint from the house down the street we know Jurado has occupied for the last decade. The new coat is exhilarating. It makes the whole neighborhood shine. It's a modest grandiosity; still homegrown. The mellotron swells, heavenly handclaps ring in stereo and big drums create a sky for the songs to fly in. And the words. Words spring forth from within the volcano of Jurado, full of hope. There's so much hope, in fact, that album opener Cloudy Shoes turns into a call-and-response with himself, as though it were a dialogue between two halves of himself.

Richard Swift's Spector-esque production is spot-on. He ferries Jurado across theriver, where the metamorphosis occurs. He then ferries him back, and it is through Swift's lens that we see Jurado not as a folk singer, but as a mystic somewhere between Van Morrison, Scott Walker and Wayne Coyne. Saint Bartlett was made entirely at Swift's National Freedom studio in Oregon, in just under a week with only Jurado and Swift as the performers.

    Light Science

For nearly thirteen years Christopher Tignor lived in the 3-story commercial space in Greenpoint, Brooklyn where he conceived and practiced with his band Slow Six. In 2008, thanks to a tipped off fire marshal, a move was inevitable, and the walls had to come down. Drastic measures would be necessary in order to keep making music on his own terms, living completely immersed in his studio and practice space. Step one was relocating to the Mott Haven neighborhood of The Bronx. Far removed from an overwhelming hipster scene he had never connected with, he found himself surrounded by the working-class grit and intensity typically associated with The South Bronx. The new musical landscape Wires Under Tension creates uncannily echoes this transition.

Charged with the desolation of a Mad Max dystopia, the songs on Wires Under Tension's debut Light Science form a narrative in motion from lightness to darkness. The band's name reflects the duo's ongoing struggle to balance this tension as they wrestle with an unpredictable and unforgiving machine of their own making. Wordless voices of the horns and violin feel like lightning riding a stormy sea of drums and drones. That lightning illuminates the duo's muscular rhythms, formidable dynamic, and unique musicianship. As they beckon us into their storm, they seem to effortlessly sidestep the cliches found in much of today's instrumental music, delivering exciting and mysterious gems from their unique netherworld.

    Dee Dee's Feathers

Vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater's 2015 effort, Dee Dee's Feathers, is a vibrant jazz showcase that pays homage to the history of New Orleans and marks the tenth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. A collaboration between Bridgewater, New Orleans trumpeter Irvin Mayfield, and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra (NOJO), the album finds Bridgewater combining her love of New Orleans' musical past with the Crescent City's vibrant present.

Recorded at Esplanade Studios, a historic 1920s church turned music studio in heart of the Treme neighborhood in New Orleans, Dee Dee's Feathers has a lush, organic sound. Bridgewater is backed here by Mayfield and his band, featuring guitarist/banjo player Don Vappie, drummer Adonis Rose, pianist Victor Atkins, and bassist Khari Allen Lee. Also featured on the album are several guests, including such New Orleans icons as keyboardist Dr. John and percussionist Bill Summers.

These are warm, largely acoustic arrangements that breathe with the energy of a live performance. Cuts like the second-line, Mardi Gras-themed Big Chief, and the similarly percussion-heavy title track sound pleasingly like in-studio jams. In contrast, standards like the romantic What a Wonderful World and the languid Come Sunday, are lush, symphonic big-band productions that juxtapose Bridgewater's crackling, resonant voice against shimmering string and horn sections.

Throughout all of Dee Dee's Feathers is Mayfield's burnished, puckered trumpet, adding a soulful counterpoint to Bridgewater's urbane vocals. Bridgewater has built a career out of combining her love of the tradition with her desire to push the boundaries of jazz style, and Dee Dee's Feathers is no exception.

From the streets of Inglewood CA come letlive. Their self-produced and released debut Fake History was picked up by Epitaph in 2011,and quickly established the band as a force to be reckoned with, inheritors of that uncategorizable blend that made bands like the Deftones, Mars Volta and Rage Against the Machine so crucial.

Such was the rapt reception for the album that by end of year frontman Jason Aalon Butler was being named the #1 rock star in the world by Kerrang (yes, #1,that's not a typo). Mixing hardcore punk, metalcore, and even jazz and R&B influences in their sound (Jason's dad was a well-known LA bandleader who pioneered rock/soul crossover with Eric Burdon), letlive.'s melting pot of influences reflects the melting-pot Los Angeles neighborhood in which the band came together.

Now with their proper debut on the label, The Blackest Beautiful, the band comes fully prepared with a mammoth sonic attack, produced by longtime co-conspirator Kit Walters and mixed by pop guru
Stephen George (Britney Spears, Michael Jackson).

Opening salvo "Banshee (Ghost Frame)" announces a band that has remained loyal to their hardcore origins, while tracks like "Younger" and "Pheromone

    - PITCHFORK

reminder to dust off your Polvo/SY LPs
    -STEREOGUM

...some of the most exciting new sounds the
    Kings County has to offer."
    -POP MATTERS

Having lived, worked, and created in the ever evolving Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn for over a
decade, native Texan Travis Johnson has felt the direct impact of the growth and dissolution that comes
with rapid gentrification. His band Grooms practiced, and recorded at Brooklyn's Death By Audio for
seven years (first as Muggabears, then as Grooms) before they were forced out of their spiritual and
literal home in November 2014 when DBA shut its doors. A little over a year before, with the band's
income not providing enough money to support any of its members, bass player and co-writer Emily
Ambruso went on hiatus from the band, leaving Johnson as the only original member. Despite these
unfortunate blows, Johnson soldiered on, soon recruiting Jay Heiselmann on bass, and actor/comedian
    Steve Levine on drums.

After months of experimenting with sound collages, samples, and electronic beats, the band recorded an
obsessively detailed and melodically complex album, with a heavy focus on mood and texture. Unlike
their previous album Infinity Caller (which Speedy Ortiz's Sadie Dupuis called ...an exercise in explosion
and restraint hallmarked by sweeping guitars, stuttery drums, and cryptic, airy vocals...) many of the
songs on Comb... bring the band's rhythm section to the fore, and Johnson's trademark guitar stylings
often take a backseat to his psychedelic sample-collages and ambient electronics. Fortunately the new
approach works, balancing pop structures with masterful experimental production that shifts in tone and
color in harmony with Johnson's tales of acceptance, loneliness, and impotent violence.

On Comb..., that violence is most evident on Something Wild, a song about destroying the high-priced
waterfront condos that contribute to the rising cost of living in neighborhoods like Williamsburg and
Greenpoint, and then feeling conflicted about it. Love is the subject matter on Bed Version (a song
which Johnson describes as a fantasy about seeing the joy in my girlfriend's face as she realizes she's
not cosmically alone.), and the album becomes wistful on Cross Off (a remembrance and longing for
the good old days when Ambruso was still an active member of the band), but even on these songs
Levine's alternately Krautrock and Elvin Jones-inspired drums, and Heiselmann's propulsive bass help to
maintain the album's intense atmosphere. Album standouts like Comb the Feelings Through Your Hair
and Doctor M deliver head-bobbing pop hooks as Johnson ponders his long-term struggle with
addiction, while other songs, Savage Seminar, Will the Boys?, and Grenadine Scene from Inside,
explore the thoughts, and feelings of fictional characters in the films Magnolia, Lost Boys, and Steel
    Magnolias, respectively.

Whether singing from a fictional or personal perspective, Johnson's songs on Comb... are all loosely
about letting go of bitterness and resentment. Like the Brooklyn neighborhood where he lives and works,
his internal real estate is constantly being reevaluated, razed, and rebuilt. Fortunately his personal
growth has yielded an album that attentive listeners will find relatable and consistently rewarding.

    Who Me?

"In contrast to his shambolic band's [the Beets] crude punkish impressions, the man's solo material hews more acoustic and bare, showcasing his warm voice and knack for, yes, poetry, that feels beamed in from a halcyon era." - Spin

Over ten years ago, a teenage Juan Wauters came to New York from Uruguay. Quickly after his arrival to the Big Apple, he turned to music to take control of the loneliness that came with his new surroundings. However, his isolation didn't last long though and, in the Queen's neighborhood Jackson Heights, he formed The Beets with new friends, garnering a reputation that allowed him to record three albums and tour the United States extensively. As the band began to slow down in 2012, Juan had more to say and he kept
going on his own with his debut solo album, N.A.P. North American Poetry, released on Captured Tracks in 2014.

Who Me? is the next chapter in the ongoing story of Juan Wauters. Whereas his debut solo record was recorded casually over the course of one year, his new album was crafted in under two weeks at Future Apple Tree in Rock Island, Illinois. Inspired by both the arrangements of Uruguayan songwriter Jaime Roos and the production of American master Dr. Dre, this collection of songs presents his continued approach to existential questioning through pop music. Tracks like "She Might Get Shot" and "I Was Well," which may seem like wisdom addressed to the listener, are in fact part of Juan's reciprocal process of self-actualization through songwriting and performing. Bringing new sounds to his repertoire, "This Is I" and "Through That Red" add a spiritual tone with ethereal string arrangements. Juan's voice - which has risen to the forefront of his music since his first recordings with The Beets - intensifies with added nuance. This year Juan Wauters will continue to tour the world in support of his second solo record.

    All My Life

With All My Life, his second APO Records release, Jimmie Lee is aiming for goose bumps and tears. And if you've got appreciation for acoustic, front porch blues, you'll have a tough time escaping his spell.

No doubt Jimmie Lee Robinson offers a delightful taste of traditional blues. His work through the years with such stalwarts as Little Walter, Howlin' Wolf, Freddie King, Elmore James and Jimmy Reed have made their impressions on the man called The Lonely Traveler just as he has been credited with inspiring them.

On All My Life you'll hear standby classics like a haunting, slowed-down version of Muddy Waters' Forty Days and Forty Nights with eerie harmonica accompaniment by Madison Slim. And Jimmie Lee even covers a non-blues favorite with What a Wonderful World. His live version of that song at a 1999 concert in Blue Heaven Studios - the converted church that is home to APO Records - brought tears to scores of the 400 in attendance.

But All My Life is also packed with Jimmie Lee originals like the title track, which was once covered by John Mayall, where Jimmie Lee pleads with the woman of his dreams to return all the respect and love he's paid to her. That track is also a perfect showcase for the classic Jimmie Lee growling vocals and the spurs jangling from his boots as the only percussion.

Unlike his first APO release, Remember Me, an almost entirely-solo effort, Jimmie Lee is joined on most of the All My Life tracks by APO artist and noted-guitarist Jimmy D. Lane and journeyman harp player Madison Slim, whose knack for acoustic blues is highlighted on this release.

Jimmie Lee has gained national attention for his protest of the destruction of Chicago's famed Maxwell Street, said to be the birthplace of Chicago blues and the neighborhood where Jimmie Lee grew up. He fasted for 81 straight days, shunning solid food as if it was the wrecking ball he so badly wants to stop. His efforts were even documented on the front page of the New York Times.

With a battery of custom built software instruments, samples, and 7 live lopers, Christopher Tignor and master percussionist Theo Metz saturate our senses with new colors reflecting the urgent vitality of their South Bronx neighborhood. At times the two seem to lock talons like eagles in a death spiral, as Metz's brutal percussive athleticism keeps pace with Tignor's machines in an aural game of chicken.

    I Love You

Lia Mice is the experimental pop project of Eleanor C Mice (nÉe Logan). After spending her teens touring Australia in punk and soul groups she lurked the Brooklyn noise scene for half a decade. In late 2012 at the end of a European tour in support of her debut solo album (originally released under the moniker Happy New Year) she became stranded in France when her return flight to Brooklyn was cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy. Waiting for her replacement flight, she passed the time in Lyon penning songs in a friend's living room. Within a week she had decided to relocate to France for good. The songs became the genesis of 'I Love You', out October 7 on Old Flame Records - LiaMice's second solo album, and first experiment in danceable tempos, inspired by new music uncovered during in her first year living in France: in the grooves of yÉ-yÉ singles; on the dancefloors of converted boat-venues; in the theme songs of classic French cinema and on the iPods of neighborhood house parties.

    Hold That Tiger!

Introduced into the music business by Frankie Avalon at a time when record producers were looking to the South Philadelphia neighborhoods in search of teenage talents with good looks, Fabian Forte mainly began singing as a way to support his family, due to his father's illness. Backed by songwriters Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman, Fabian had soon released a series of hit singles on Chancellor Records, while his debut album Hold That Tiger! climbed to #5 on the US charts. Although never the greatest of singers (he would find greater success as an actor), during the late 50's Fabian was projected as something of a teen idol, helped by a string of hits and numerous appearances on American television.

    Small Town Heroes

In 2014, Hurray for the Riff Raff release 'Small Town Heroes,' its debut for ATO Records. The album finds frontwoman Alynda Lee Segarra -
who settled in New Orleans after leaving her native Bronx at age 17.

Produced by Segarra and engineered by Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes), 'Small Town Heroes' features twelve new, original songs all written or cowritten
by Segarra, with support from a vivid cast of Crescent City musicians.

NPR has said that Hurray for the Riff Raff sweeps across eras and genres with grace and grit," never more so than on 'Small Town Heroes.' On the
hedonist country lament "I Know It's Wrong (But That's Alright)" Segarra sings to a forbidden love "I'll feed you watermelon off the vine," while on "The
Body Electric she exposes the misogyny of the traditional murder ballad, and warns Delia's gone, but I'm settling the score.

Ultimately though, many of the songs embody that most magical and fated of American cities, New Orleans. Segarra bears witness to a wave of violence
that struck the St. Roch neighborhood in St. Roch Blues; yearns for a night at BJ's Bar in the Bywater in Crash on the Highway; and sings of her own
Lower Ninth Ward home in End of the Line.

'Small Town Heroes' follows Hurray for the Riff Raff's self-released 2012 album 'Look Out Mama,' which led to a performance at the Newport Folk
Festival, and praise from Mojo, which compared Segarra to "a soulful, young Loretta Lynn," and The New York Times which hailed the group as part of
the loosely cohered movement of younger musicians embracing and reframing American roots music, giving it a polish of currency but otherwise leaving
    its bones intact.

    Muswell Hillbillies

Muswell Hillbillies is the ninth studio album by the English rock group The Kinks. The album is named after the Muswell Hill area of North London, where band leader Ray Davies and guitarist Dave Davies grew up and the band formed in the early 1960s. The album centered on themes of poverty and working-class life, as well as the destruction and subdivision of old Victorian neighborhoods-a practice that had become commonplace in North London during the 1970s.

Depending on whom you ask, Jack 'Oblivian' Yarber is either a rock legend or an obsolute unknown. And no one knows this dichotomy better than Yarber, who may be Memphis' most infuential active rock musician.

The list of noteworthy bands Yarber has been a member of over the years is massive and includes Johnny Vomit & the Dry Heaves, new-wavers the End, '68 Comeback, Knaughty Knights, and Tav Falco's Panther Burns. Two of Yarber's former bands, the Compulsive Gamblers and the Oblivians, have seen their reputation and following swell in the decade since their demise, especially the Oblivians, whose international fan base borders on rabid. Due largely to his stint in these bands, both partnerships with Greg Cartwrigth, now of Reigning Sound, Yarber has been an acknowledged influence on artists such as the White Stripes, the Hives, and Jay Reatard.

In the years since, Yarber has toured and released a string of successful solo albums under the Jack O & the Tennessee Tearjerkers moniker. Originally conceived in 2000 as a partnership with former Impala and current Bo-Keys bassist Scott Bomar, the band quickly morphed into Yarber's solo incarnation after Bomar became occupied with film scoring and production work. The band has had a revolving door for side players ever since, at different times including current River City Tanlines John Bonds and Terrence Bishop, Neighborhood Texture Jam guitarist John Wittmore, the Reigning Sound's Greg Roberson, Bluff City Backslider Adam Woodard, and a host of other recognizable local musicians.

REAL ESTATE waft in on vibes of hazy summers past. The New Jersey quartet cut the sleeves short and the pop smooth to shade you from the midday heat. Every song works its way to that part of your consciousness that reveled in the fleeting waves of freedom that eked in once classes broke and the sun lingered a little longer over suburban roofs. And with three quarters of the band holding down Garden State roots its no surprise that a bit of Jersey indie-pop heritage sneaks its way into their sound, lifting the most sun streaked moments from The Feelies and Yo La Tengo and filtering them through the kaleidoscope of memories aimless drives through parched neighborhood streets. MARTIN COURTNEYs songwriting has a way of wrapping up the immediacy of youth with the ennui of age for the perfect shade of bittersweet bliss, mind you though, much heavier on the sweet than the bitter. Add to this MATTHEW MONDANILEs (DUCKTAILS, PREDATOR VISION) shimmering guitar strains full of equal parts sea foam and beer foam, pepper in the boardwalk clatter of ETIENNE PIERRE DUGUAYs drums, ALEX BLEEKERs staccato low end and the perfect afternoon is just a lawn chair and boom box away.Andy French (Raven Sings the Blues) Received a Best New Music, 8.5 rating from Pitchfork.

One Night Stand: Live at the Harlem Square is the second live album by the American singer-songwriter Sam Cooke. The album was originally released in June 1985 in the United States by RCA Records. Initially recorded in 1963 to be released as a live album entitled One Night Stand, the concert at the Harlem Square club (in Miami's historically African American neighborhood of Overtown) was not released until 1985. RCA Victor, at the time, viewed the album as too gritty and raw and possibly damaging to his pop image, and quietly kept the recordings in their archive.

The album is generally considered among the best live albums by contemporary music critics, and has been ranked in best-of music lists, including on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
