Ry Cooder Is A Master Sonic Archeologist And Cultural Historian On Boomer's Story: Guitarist Pays Tribute To The Past And Updates Music For Future On Rustic Record Steeped In Folk, Blues, And Soul

Mastered From The Original Master Tapes, Pressed At RTI, And Strictly Limited To 3000 Numbered Copies: Mobile Fidelity 180g LP Of Boomer's Story Sounds Fantastic With Vibrant Textures

Ry Cooder's development as a peerless musician capable of grasping virtually any style began with his time spent with Taj Mahal and Captain Beefheart, but for all intents and purposes reaches epic proportions on Boomer's Story. With two ambitious albeit uneven studio albums behind him, the California native plunged into roles that still define him today - that of sonic archaeologist and cultural historian, shaping his 1972 Reprise effort with enlightened selections carved into the bedrock of America's folk, blues, and soul landscapes. Inspired, virtuosic, and poignant, Boomer's Story endures as a ravishing portrait of inspired translation and inventive craftsmanship that after years of neglect finally boasts sonics deserving of the performances.

Mastered from the original master tapes, pressed at RTI, and strictly limited to 3000 numbered copies, Mobile Fidelity's 180g LP of Cooder's breakout teems with natural tones, front-to-back imaging, and vintage tube warmth. Boomer's Story benefits from vibrant textures and organic openness, two prized traits that come to fore with breathtaking realism on this analog reissue. Details ranging from the audible resonance of the drum skins, drifting reverb on the guitar, and the inner cavity of the piano take up residence on deep-black soundstages. Individual notes appear and recede with lifelike decay. Cooder and company sound as if they're in the room, playing in real time with one another. This record has never been more dynamic or involving.

Having initiated his self-taught learning of customs established by the likes of Josh White, Woody Guthrie, Charlie Johnson, and Robert Johnson as early as age four, and grown up a son of parents obsessed with Folkways Records, Cooder never suffers from the retro rehash fakery plaguing countless contemporary revivalists. A true original, the guitarist simultaneously pays tribute to the past and updates it for the future. Boomer's Story brims with traditional tunes (the title track, Good Morning Mr. Railroad Man), classic blues (Ax Sweet Mama, Cherry Ball Blues), and World War II standards (Comin' in on a Wing and a Prayer).

A spellbinding blend of personality, respect, and innovation grace every song. Evoking the timeless rusticism and weird, old America vibe of Bob Dylan and the Band's Basement Tapes, Boomer's Story unfolds with a relaxed ease and back-porch chemistry underlined by the musicians' unpretentious demeanors and potent abilities. Drummer Jim Keltner, percussionist Milt Holland, and bassist Jim Dickinson (also a producer) are among the cast fleshing out Cooder's visions. The headliner also welcomes country-blues legend Sleepy John Estes to sing on his own President Kennedy and leans on pianist Randy Newman to help him transform the normally bellicose Rally 'Round the Flag into a patient, mournful protest.

Cooder attains equally meaningful, emotional results on a definitive wordless interpretation of the staple soul ballad The Dark End of the Street, expressing unfathomable depths of regret and longing via slide-guitar work that draws a line back to Blind Willie McTell's immortal spiritual Dark Was the Night - a song Cooder called the most transcendent piece in all American music. Indeed, the degree of interplay attained by twinkling keys, rambling beats, brass accents, and dazzling guitar lines - also finger-picked and strummed - on Boomer's Story breathes with a rare air increasingly endangered in an era of on-demand immediacy and auto-tuned imitation. This, as it's said, is the real deal.

    The Nat King Cole Story

Analogue Productions' Blue Note and Nat King Cole Reissues WIN A Positive Feedback 2010 Brutus Award!
...if you haven't picked up every one of the Blue Note and Nat King Cole reissues from Chad Kassem and company at Acoustic Sounds, you're really missing out! - David W. Robinson, Positive Feedback, Issue 52

The results on this five 45rpm 180g LP set are simply astonishing, particularly if you've heard the originals. The transparency, dynamics and three-dimensionality create the intense sensation of being in the studio with the musicians and especially with Cole who appears as a visceral, floating apparition between the speakers. The size and three-dimensionality of the vocal image produces the sensation of the listener being a 'fly on the microphone mike stand' listening to Cole perform, surrounded by musicians. The arrangements and performances are faithful to the originals but the sound of course is far superior. The feeling is of sitting in on history by being there, not merely eavesdropping after the fact. Music = 10/11; Sound = 11/11 - Michael Fremer, Musicangle

...mastered from the original three-track work tapes is a sonic spectacular that outdoes the original by a wide margin - as does its packaging. The SACD includes three-channel and two-channel mixes. A major reissue. Stereophile Records To Die For - Michael Fremer, Stereophile, February 2010

One of Nat King Cole's crowning achievements and a fittingly lavish celebration of a cultural and musical icon, The Nat King Cole Story offers a glorious overview of the career of one of the greatest and most beloved performers in popular music history. 38 tracks, many re-recorded in stereo for this anthology, offer a selection spanning his popular career.

His beginnings leading the popular jazz-oriented Nat King Cole Trio are represented with selections including Route 66 and I Love You (For Sentimental Reasons). Hits including Nature Boy, Mona Lisa, Unforgettable, Orange Colored Sky, Night Lights and Looking Back are here to represent his unparalleled string of memorable hits as a popular vocalist. Calypso Blues and Ay Cosita Linda help illustrate the range his projects could cover. More contemporary to this anthology, selections including Wild Is Love are augmented here with two huge hits as a special bonus, Ramblin' Rose and Those Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer to further expand the scope.

A talent and voice for all times with a body of work that could and did help define their eras, Nat King Cole's career offers some of the finest, most enduring and treasured recordings ever made. Nat King Cole could never be fully served by any one set. But this wonderful cornucopia stands as a fantastic celebration for the enthusiast and a good starting point for someone just beginning to explore The Nat King Cole Story.

Using the original first generation 2-track and 3-track session tapes from Capitol's vaults and all-analogue systems including custom headstacks, 3-track preview heads, console and monitoring chain installed at AcousTech specially for these releases, mastering engineers Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman realize the stunning beauty of these recordings in this 45-RPM 180-gram five album set.

Originally presented as a deluxe box set of 3 LPs in a canvas-bound embossed box with essays and pictures included in a album-sized booklet, The Nat King Cole Story was a prestigious release Capitol took obvious pride in. Complete with 5 LPs, canvas-bound embossed box and booklet with essays and pictures, Analogue Productions proudly recreates the experience for a new generation to cherish with this deluxe release. This truly is a no-expenses-spared project, resulting in the ultimate version of this title and a historic reissue.

There are 38 songs in this collection. Of those, three are the same recordings included on other Analogue Productions Nat King Cole reissues. Stardust (track 28) is the same version included on Love Is The Thing. St. Louis Blues (track 30) is the same version included on the album of that title. And Paradise (track 33) is the same version included on The Very Thought Of You. Three more songs - Sweet Lorraine, It's Only A Paper Moon and (Get Your Kicks On) Route 66 - are songs that appear on After Midnight, however these versions are stereo re-recordings of the original arrangements from the 1940s.

    Never A Dull Moment

Essentially a harder-rocking reprise of Every Picture Tells a Story, Never a Dull Moment never quite reaches the heights of its predecessor, but it's a wonderful, multi-faceted record in its own right. Opening with the touching, autobiographical rocker True Blue, which finds Rod Stewart trying to come to grips with his newfound stardom but concluding that he'd rather be back home, the record is the last of Stewart's series of epic fusions of hard rock and folk. It's possible to hear Stewart go for superstardom with the hard-rocking kick and fat electric guitars of the album, but the songs still cut to the core. You Wear It Well is a Maggie May rewrite on the surface, but it develops into a touching song about being emotionally inarticulate. Similarly, Lost Paraguayos is funny, driving folk-rock, and it's hard not to be swept away when the Stonesy hard rocker Italian Girls soars into a mandolin-driven coda. The covers -- whether a soulful reading of Jimi Hendrix's Angel, an empathetic version of Dylan's Mama, You Been on My Mind, or a stunning interpretation of Etta James' I'd Rather Go Blind -- are equally effective, making Never a Dull Moment a masterful record.

11 Short Stories of Pain & Glory

After twenty years, Dropkick Murphys remain bigger than ever, having sold over 6 million albums worldwide. Their forthcoming CD, 11 Short Stories Of Pain & Glory, is a soundtrack to tragedy and triumph alike. On this album, the band carries on the tradition of rough and tumble storytelling - the kind of writing that never leaves fans wondering whether the band have lived what they're singing about. A look back at childhood, a snapshot of a clueless jerk, a stop-you-in-your-tracks reflection on a terrorist tragedy... There are moments of ass-kicking Celtic punk attitude, ball-busting wisecracks, tear-jerking confessions, and the kind of upbeat words of wisdom that can be chanted loud and proud across arenas and stadiums worldwide.

The band continues to sell out venues around the world. They've Boston's Fenway Park and been personally invited to share the stage with everyone from Foo Fighters to Bruce Springsteen to Mumford & Sons. The group's single I'm Shipping Up To Boston"-- from 2005's Certified Gold The Warrior's Code--has sold nearly 2 million copies. "I'm Shipping Up To Boston," a song with lyrics penned by Woody Guthrie, gained mainstream notoriety after being prominently featured in Martin Scorsese's Academy Award-winning film The Departed. It can be commonly heard at sporting events and on television as a theme song for many sports teams (even outside of Boston).

    Lava Diviner (True Story)

Though texturally inspired by early new age records like Iasos' Inter-Dimensional Music, and sample-based collage ventures like Colleen's Everyone Alive Wants Answers, Lava Diviner (Truestory) is reinforced with a robust percussive backbone.

Botany, otherwise known as Spencer Stephenson, never resorts to shallow MPC trickery or contrived mixtape clumsiness. Instead, his proto-new age textures float elegantly atop a primal boom-bap pulse to paint a detailed, rhythmic mural that has the scope of a '70s prog rock epic.

"On Lava Diviner, I wanted to conjure that same headspace that artists like Roger Dean, and even Zdzislaw Beksinski project in their iconic paintings," says Stephenson. "I tried to evoke those grand, colourful, surreal landscapes that are mind-bending yet oddly comforting - sci-fi and epic and holy, all at the same time."

Following 2010's quietly applauded Feeling Today EP, Lava Diviner (Truestory) was created at various Texas locations using a jumble of equipment, from aging desktop computers, samplers, guitars, bells, flutes, tape recorders, turntables, violin playing room-mates and much more besides. Guest vocals from Brainfeeder artist RYAT were added to the mix and the final creation was mastered by Matthewdavid (Leaving Records / Stones Throw).

As the product of a lengthy gestation period, Lava Diviner (Truestory) follows Botany on an intensely personal journey as he makes his way home within himself, returning to his celestial centre.

Loosely a concept album documenting a religious sect that prays for a volcano to erupt, Stephenson set out to make a kind of instrumental storybook of an album, using only the emotional tone that his theme might evoke.

However, by the time the record was finished, it became clear that the emotional tone was really coming from own life, rather than any concept or allegory.

"As work on the record progressed, I began to realize that the musical journey was a direct reflection of my most hard-to-quantify life experiences." he explains. "Lava Diviner is about very real transformations in my being, so it's a true story in that sense I always imagined my first album being like a volcano, with years of pent-up emotion and musical ideas bubbling up to a cathartic release. So, I always knew that symbolism would end up being a part of my first full-length."

The volcanic sense of release is palpable. Lava Diviner (Truestory) easily moves past stale tropes of beat-based music, and brings to life a fully-realized, album-length outpouring of profound human emotion.

    Soma Records Story: Vol. 3 - A Man's Gotta Be A Man!

The record world was a completely different place in 1965.
Kids wanting to take home a piece of the rock 'n' roll action they frugged to at the Armory dance last weekend or a wild tune they heard the local bossjocks spin on the way home from school, inevitably had to deal with seven-inchers made by independent record labels. The single was the thing in the mid-60's, not the album. In even the hippest big city record emporiums, you could thumb through the entire recorded canon of British Invasion-influenced LPs - no more than a hundred or so - in about five minutes. But, ahhh, those singles. And nobody did them better than the shoebox companies sprouting up like bread mold all over the country, labels who could tap into the best local talent and get their show-stopping songs into the local record shops.

Just about every sector of the US had its own scene, red hot local chart entries that kids three hundred miles away were destined to never hear. And that's why the legendary indie labels - from International Artists in Houston or Autumn in San Francisco to Dunwich in Chicago or Etiquette in Tacoma - and hundreds more just as groovy, are revered today more than ever.

The Soma Record Company of Minneapolis caught the national spotlight by releasing hits from the likes of the Castaways and the Gestures. But Liar Liar and Run, Run, Run are just the tip ofthe iceberg. If you've always suspected that thousands of great singles from the '60s that you've yet to hear are lurking in the bushes, guess what? You're right. Step into the dusty Soma vaults with us - brush aside those cobwebs, if you would - point your flashlight towards the strobelight flickering at the far end of the tunnel and keep walking. When the cool Fender 'n Farfisa sounds finally grab you by the shirt collar, just keep telling yourself: This isn't a dream. It's what I was born to do.

    Infinite House

While on a writing retreat in the sleepy southern town of Benton, Mississippi, the members of New York's Ava Luna came across an abandoned house while on a walk through the woods. Overgrown, rotting, and littered with evidence of its past inhabitants, the maze-like dwelling would haunt their psyches throughout the writing and recording of their third full-length Infinite House. Like Borges' Library of Babel, the seemingly endless rooms and hallways in the old house felt like a metaphor for the invisible, internal labyrinths, which the band explores lyrically and sonically on their new album. Recorded by drummer Julian Fader and vocalist/guitar player Carlos Hernandez, and mixed by Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Spoon, MGMT), it is safely their most polished recording to date. But their trademark intensity, mirthful humor, and angularity remain resolutely in place, the burnished surfaces illuminating the stories beneath like never before. By questioning, or maybe just forgetting the rules of the real world, on Infinite House the band has grown beyond the nervous soul descriptor they've been tagged with in the past, delivering an album on which nightmarish moments can phoenix into revelations that help us reconnect with the surreal magic in our everyday lives.

    Eponymous

A supercombo team-up between Simon Lord (ex Simian) and Rafter Roberts, the Roberts & Lord duo present their Asthmatic Kitty debut, Eponymous. Roberts rough and grimy (yet complexly arranged) analog backing tracks paired with Lords clean, digitally-recorded vocals, gives these songs a tricky kind of depth that is immediately engaging.

This effortless juxtaposition reigns throughout these 35 some-odd minutes. The album begins with Mosquito, a perfect example and touchstone of Roberts loud, garage rocky, blown-outness paired with structure well-thought-out (but never lingered upon). Simons lyrics tell the story of a mans love for a mosquito, his vocals backed by a crunchy oil-drum thunk of beats (a theme of this record.) Simons lyric writing on Mosquito sets the tone for what's to come and the tone is fun.

Influenced by verse poets like Ivor Cutler and Edward Lear, Lord gives us a simple, light-hearted return to innocence, a goodly love for good love, the capital F feel-goodness compressed into a chorus, the sweaty exuberance of a solid dance party with all your friends around you.

First Time 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl & Gatefold Cover Presentation

    Mastered Impeccably By Joe Reagoso

Features His All Time Classic Masterpiece Taxi

Heads & Tails was the debut smash Lp from the late singer/songwriter and human rights activist Harry Chapin. Shortly after its release in 1972, and thanks in part to Johnny Carson for asking the artist to come back a second night after he blew the audience away with his storytelling classic hit Taxi, Harry Chapin was on soon on his way to the top rungs of the charts.

Radio programmers both rock and pop also took the cue and began to play the 7 minute single in tandem, as Taxi would soon become one of the biggest success stories of the time.

The album was filled with 8 more Chapin classics like his stellar Greyhound, Could You Keep Your Light On Please and the beautiful harmony filled Any Old Kind Of Day. With his amazing stories and masterful musicianship, Harry Chapin would go on beyond the musical landscape and become one of the leading human rights activists of his time with his food outreach programs, which are still in the works to this day (The Harry Chapin Foundation)

Friday Music is very honored to announce the limited edition release of late great Harry Chapin's Heads & Tails. This first time 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl was mastered impeccably by Joe Reagoso at Captiol Records and will also be presented in a stunning gatefold cover to further enhance your listening experience.

This is a wonderful album for his old fans to revisit for the first time in the audiophile vinyl domain, as well as to share with others who may never have heard the amazing stories and songs that tru

ly made this sorely missed artist a musical pioneer.

    Nothing Can Hurt Me (Soundtrack)

2011's RSD saw an Omnivore vinyl reissue of the "test pressing" of Big Star's 1975 swansong Third, meticulously recreated right down to the master tape box and tracking sheets. Early in 2012, the band's frontman Alex Chilton was celebrated via the label's release of Free Again: The 1970 Sessions. Now, Omnivore is handling the soundtrack to the Magnolia Pictures documentary Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me, and it will premiere as a RSD-exclusive yellow double vinyl edition limited to 4,000 copies worldwide. The 2012 SXSW Film Festival selection tells the story of the ultimate cult band, a group that never saw any considerable commercial success but influenced an entire generation of pop musicians. Nothing Can Hurt Me chronicles Alex Chilton's ascent to fame

As lead singer of The Box Tops through the recording of Big Star's three albums, to the 1978 death of Chilton's collaborator Chris Bell.

The 21 previously unreleased tracks on the soundtrack's four vinyl sides encompass vintage unissued mixes, alternate takes, demos, and new mixes made for the motion picture of Big Star, Chilton and Bell songs. The soundtrack includes 21 previously unheard period mixes, new mixes made specifically for the film, and alternate takes and demos.

The emergence of Swedish duo JJ in March 2009 was both meaningful and mysterious. A debut single, 'jj no.1', enchanted the music press, simultaneously existing across indie-pop and hip-hop spectrums, excitingly new and yet frustratingly vague in its presentation. This was a taste, a scent, something intangible, an impression made without force. The music was here, but little else - its makers remained anonymous. Pitchfork's Best New Music review for the band's debut album, summer 2009's 'jj no.2', spoke first of their enigmatic qualities, rather than precisely what this music was: another sumptuous menagerie of styles, blended by an expert hand, intoxicating and otherworldly. Both Elin Kastlander and Joakim Benon appeared in the Marcus Söderlund-directed video to 'Let Go'. Cover, broken.

We didn't mean to be anonymous, to begin with, says Kastlander. We just knew we needed to put our music out.

I'd say we've been working on this album our whole lives, says Benon of 'V', the band's third long-player. It's the thing I've always wanted to do. I feel that we've been working on this album ever since we began to record music. We have never really had any other plan than to make this V shit happen and at the same time we never knew what it was - the story presented itself to us - and it's a story that's always been clear. It's only grown in its own way. And now we're finished, we look at it and back at it, and can begin to realize what it really is, what we have done, because it's something you don't necessarily decide for yourself, even though you've made it. And the songs... we don't write them, we just do our best to catch them forever, for real. JJ have, with new album 'V', realised the definitive expression of their experiences to date, and are finally comfortable with being a press-welcoming, tour-ready outfit.

As Benon explains, everything the pair has produced in the past has been part of this journey, to a zenith that they always sought to reach. But just as 'My Boyz' exists exclusively in and of itself, so too does the new album's material, always envisioned as a whole, separate from other projects despite carrying over select DNA from its pop progenitors.

Tracks like the gorgeously understated 'Be Here Now' and subtle strings of 'When I Need You' float into clarity, coming together from vaporous beginnings. The latter number is one of several on 'V' that showcase how Kastlander has grown as a vocalist. Hers is no indiscernible mumble, no vulnerable presence set to music that fizzes like a beachside cocktail on 'Fågelsången' and soars on digital wings on 'All White Everything'; rather, it's a mix-spearing confirmation that, whatever the bruised heart or open sexuality behind the lyrics, she's intent on connecting without compromise. Words are crisp, intonation perfect. There's still a hard thud on occasion, too: 'Hold Me' opens with lean-flavoured raps, before twisting into a stained-glass confessional of absolute gravity, and 'All Ways, Always' packs substantial swagger beside its rock riffs.

We do it now, sings Kastlander on 'I'. And now really is the time for JJ, as acknowledged by Benon. At last I have music that I really want to listen to, that I want to hear from a stage. In a way, we've made this music quite selfishly, to appeal primarily to ourselves and I really haven't felt this way about our material before. This is the moment. It's for real now.

And why do anything to restrict the sharing of that joy? Evidently at the top of their game in 2014, JJ are ready to, in Benon's words, communicate with the world, quite unlike they've ever done so before. They're embracing, not retreating. Besides, mysteries are more frustrating than fascinating without resolution.

The Road: Part I (Awaiting Repress)

After a rollercoaster twenty-five year career as an artist, curator and tastemaker, James Lavelle returns with UNKLE's fifth studio album, The Road: Part I.

James Lavelle was one of the key players who shaped the cultural landscape of the 1990s. As the founder of Mo' Wax Records and UNKLE, Lavelle nurtured, worked and rubbed shoulders with some of the most influential artists of the decade, including DJ Shadow, Ian Brown, Thom Yorke, Richard Ashcroft and Massive Attack.

Within ten years of leaving Oxford to work in a record shop, Lavelle had founded one of the most coveted music labels in the world.

As a record producer, label head and tastemaker, he absorbed the 90s as a night owl, seeking out musicians, designers, film makers and unique individuals to share ideas and collaborate with. He tapped into what was without a doubt the most celebrated and innovative era since the 1960s, and was widely regarded as the greatest A&R man of the day. In the twenty years since UNKLE's debut, Lavelle has been prolific. He created three studio albums with UNKLE (Never Never Land, War Stories and Where Did The Night Fall), a host of critically acclaimed film scores, and curated a series of art exhibitions through Daydreaming With... most notably, the hugely successful Daydreaming With Stanley Kubrick exhibition at Somerset House.

    Sea When Absent

Appropriately for new beginnings, Sea When Absent marks a number of firsts for ASDIG-it's the first album recorded in a real studio by someone who isn't Ben or Josh, the first album not written mostly by Ben, the first album with next-to-no reverb, and the first time in ASDIG's history that it has existed as anactual band (not just Ben or Josh playing everything). There was also a conscious effort to get away from aspects of recording that have defined this band in the past-namely heavily reverbed and buried vocals [ed.- they never sound buried to Ben]. Vocalists Jen Goma and Anne Fredrickson have beautiful voices and it was time to explore the possibilities of their abilities/talents. Jen took on a central role in the making of this album, stepping up to write most of the lyrics and melodies. Anne also contributed melodies throughout the album and put her classical cello training to use adding string arrangements. Since 2009 Ben has called Sydney, Australia home and while he was down under, multi-instrumentalist/backup vocalist/engineer/jack-of-all-trades Josh Meakim was Our Man in Philly, overseeing the recording sessions and adding all of the musical and production ideas he usually does. The distance between Ben and the rest of the band also forced novel ways of building songs from across the world. Bassist Ryan Newmyer, in Brooklyn, was tasked with deconstructing and rebuilding several songs in his own way-Oh, I'm a Wrecker (What to Say to Crazy People) bears the fruit of this tact. Holding it all together is drummer Adam Herndon. Adam is Sea When Absent's alchemist-weaving between, and often reconciling, the colossal boom of electronic beats (see Golden Waves or Double Dutch) and the subtle elegance of a drum kit in a room (see The Body, It Bends or The Things They Do to Me).

Between releasing Ashes Grammar in late 2009 and Autumn, Again in late 2010, ASDIG spent the better part of that year on tour. The six members in this band returned to six different Ithacas and the various dramas and adventures they've endured since then inform a lot of Sea When Absent. But 2014 is also just an insanetime to be alive. Dominant narratives have broken down and the stories we tell ourselves have never been more up-for-grabs.It's all happening and A Sunny Day in Glasgow want to be as simultaneously everywhere and nowhere as the rest of us. Sea When Absent is ASDIG's story for the milieu-a fever-dream about the now (or maybe a lucid dream about the fever-now) and a future possible set in pop-major.

Music Is Painting In The Air 1974-1977

Music Is Painting In the Air is a collection of new mixes and unheard music from Sensations' Fix's prolific output between 1974 and 1977. Revered as one of the great articulations of progressive music, Music Is Painting In the Air offers guide posts to those familiar with Sensations' Fix's amorphous catalog and an approachable primer to those just journeying on the sensational trip.

The story of Sensations' Fix begins - and never quite ends - with Franco Falsini. Born in Florence, Italy in 1948, Falsini became a teenage rock 'n' roll convert through a steady supply of 45s sent home by his London-based sister. Following his sister's footsteps to swinging 60s London, Falsini put his love of music into practice, fronting a space blues trio that riffed its way from the UK back to Italy in a Ford Transit.

Falsini became smitten by Vinnie Sherman, an American woman working as a waitress at a nightclub in Florence where Falsini was holding down a residency. The newlywed lovers made their way to Alexandria, Virginia in the summer of 1969. Arriving on August 15th, the first day of Woodstock, a spirit of freedom filled Falsini and fueled his creative proclivity.

Falsini blazed a trail for home recording that has impressed upon inward resourcing and reflecting musicians and DIY enthusiasts in the decades since. A technology stalwart, Falsini employed a floor model MiniMoog and a tricked-out Teac 4-track machine to transform the Virginia basement of the house shared with Sherman into a cosmic conduit and launch pad for Sensations' Fix.

The reach for space from a personal place is nowhere more apparent than on Fragments of Light, early basement recordings solicited by Falsini as deal demos and surprisingly flipped into the first of six Sensations' Fix albums released over the next five years. The up-close fidelity of Fragments - coupled with Falsini's emotive guitar leads and sparse, sentimental vocals - creates a private quality that separates the album from other extravagant progressive rock productions contemporary to its 1974 release.

Relocating back to Italy on the heels of Fragments' release, Falsini, alongside drummer Keith Edwards and bassist Richard Ursillo (both American expats), charged through another two Sensations' Fix albums, Portable Madness in 1974 and Finest Finger in 1976, and a stunning solo album Cold Nose (Naso Fredo) in 1975. Without marketing or tour support to expose Sensations' Fix to a wider European audience, Falsini and his band of psychedelic renegades left Italy for the golden shores of California and their possible salvation. In 1977, Sensations' Fix released Vision's Fugitive on an independent label and fulfilled their major label obligation shortly after with Boxes Paradise.

Falsini spent the next couple decades between New York City and Paris, creatively contentedly creating above par electro-pop (The Antennas) before returning to Florence to launch the Interactive Test dance music label. Meanwhile, the legend of Sensations' Fix grew. On his 2002 album, The Private Press, DJ Shadow sampled from two Sensations' Fix songs. More recently, Sonic Youth curated a career retrospective titled Sensational Fix at Life Gallery in Saint-Nazaire France.

For Music is Painting in the Air, Falsini and his son Jeyon set forth on a year-long voyage to restore and revisit the original Sensations' Fix analog tapes. Honoring Falsini's tradition of autonomy, this collection, as with the majority of the Sensations' Fix catalog, was mixed solely by Falsini. The sequence is chronologically defiant, encouraging the listener to free associate the recurring themes' origins and immerse in the body of music as its own universe.

Once this celestial body suit is occupied, it becomes apparent why the forward-thinking yet emotionally-accessible quality of Sensations' Fix's music is still finding the universal audience for which its intended. Falsini's disregard for time and insistence on reinvention provides an infinite reach for his music. The end-goal was seemingly unmarketable by the industry then, but perfectly harmonious with a culture constantly evolving now.

    Oblique To All Paths

CULTED's story is a unique one: 4 band members spread out over multiple countries and continents, having never performed music together in the same room coming together through the wonders of modern technology to create totally compelling top of the line doom. While CULTED's writing and recording process may be unusual, and a story unto itself, it certainly should not overshadow what this band has accomplished---creating a bleak and epic masterpiece of dystopian doom. Cinematic in its scope, 'Oblique To All Paths' is a beautifully haunting and grim piece of sprawling doom metal-the perfect soundtrack to a desolate, barren winter.

''Johnny Cash transcends country music...he represents what American Music is all about!''

Known throughout the world as one of the major figures of post-Hank Williams country music, Johnny Cash constantly sought to expand his musical horizons and avoid being pigeonholed. Cash was at his most engagingly eclectic on Orange Blossom Special, recorded in 1964.

For starters, ''The Man In Black'' covered three tunes by Bob Dylan, then the most talked-about young singer-songwriter of the dawning folk-rock era. (''It Ain't Me Babe,'' ''Don't Think Twice, It's Alright,'' and ''Mama, You've Been On My Mind''), The Nashville musical establishment hardly embraced Dylan's mind-blowing lyrics, but Cash, knowing genius when he heard it, was the first major country star to cover Dylan's work. By the same token, he also rendered two numbers by A.P. Carter of the legendary Carter Family, who, along with Jimmy Rodgers, created the musical template that's still the model for ''traditional'' country, bluegrass, and some forms of folk. And Cash's unmistakable, tough-hewn baritone rendered the classic fiddle tune that is the title track, as well as ''Danny Boy'' (with a spoken word intro), the spiritual ''Amen'' and the traditional story-song ''The Long Black Veil.''. Cash's compositions include ''The Wall,'' one of the prison songs for which he is known, and the protest tune ''All Of God's Children Ain't Free.'' Orange Blossom Special (with liner notes by the artist and never-before seen archive photos) finds Cash backed by the Tennessee Two, his outstanding guitar/bass tandem of Luther Perkins and Marshall Grant and guest appearances by such Nashville aces as Boots Randolph on tenor sax, pianists Floyd Cramer and Bill Pursell, guitarist Norman Blake, and harmonica ace Charlie McCoy. And on Johnny Horton's ''When It's Springtime In Alaska (It's Forty Below),'' Cash is accompanied by the now-familiar female voice of June Carter.

    Jomsviking

Double LP With Pop-Up Viking Ship

Swedish metal kings Amon Amarth will unleash their 10th studio album, Jomsviking, via Metal Blade Records! Jomsviking - the band's first concept record in their storied career - tells a tragic tale of love and revenge, backed by the Swedes' trademark melodic, anthemic metal, which was produced and mixed once again by Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Testament, Accept) and also features special guest session drummer Tobias Gustafsson (Vomitory). The epic original story is set in the world of the Jomsvikings, the legendary order of mercenary Vikings. As front-man Johan Hegg explains: "The Jomsvikings were a shadowy and legendary sect of Viking mercenaries, as shrouded in myth now as they were when they fought across Europe and the Middle East. Ruthless and deadly warriors who fought for the highest bidder, their code was simple: Show no fear. Never retreat. Defend your brothers, and when called upon, avenge their deaths. I felt we were finally ready to use their story as the jumping off point for an Amon Amarth album. The Jomsvikings and their world is the background for the story of a young man that is in love with a girl but unfortunately she's being married off. He accidentally kills a man when this happens and he has to flee - but he swears to have revenge and win her back. He feels that he's been wronged and his life has been destroyed. The way the story evolves is not a happy story."

By far their most ambitious project to date, fans can view the video for the album's first single, "First Kill". Produced by Grupa 13 and directed by Darek Szermanowicz (Behemoth), "First Kill" was filmed in Gohrweide (Germany) and Warsaw (Poland) and features a cinematic depiction of the violent, brutal lyrics, along with powerful live footage of the band performing with their full dragon head and pyro stage-set.

There's nothing typical about the Oxford, Mississippi-based rock act Young Buffalo or the story behind their debut album, House. Although the group's
songwriters Ben Yarbrough and Jim Barrett didn't begin playing under the Young Buffalo moniker until 2009, they started writing music together as
teenagers and never ceased evolving. The band-which now also features drummer Tim Burkhead, bassist Andrew Guinn and keyboardist Will
Eubanks-couldn't be more excited to share their debut album House, an 11-track album produced by Dave Schiffman (Haim, Weezer) that establishes
the five-piece act as a band that's as unique as the town where they were conceived.

    Orange Sunshine Soundtrack

Orange Sunshine was one of the most anticipated films at the SXSW festival this year. The film is the never-before-told story of the Brotherhood of Eternal Love - a spiritual group of surfers and hippies in California, which became the largest supplier of LSD during the 60s and 70s. The soundtrack features music in the style of the era, composed by singer-songwriter Matt Costa.

    The Puppet Master

An underground icon and purveyor of all things dark and mysterious, KING DIAMOND and his cohorts continue to terrorize humanity with their latest and most extreme album to date, The Puppet Master. This gruesome tale set to take place in 18th century Budapest, Hungary involving a puppet show and many fascinating characters. One cold night in December the main character known as Unfortunate Man goes down to see a Christmas puppet show and after the show he is standing outside and sees a young woman. He is strangely drawn to this young woman, Victoria, almost as if one of the puppet's ghosts is sitting on his shoulder whispering in his ear to go and kiss the girl. The two get along immediately due to their fascination with the puppet show and end up going out. About a year later everything is going very good until one night Victoria heads down to the puppet show by herself and never returns. The Unfortunate Man goes down to the puppet show to investigate and sees the Puppet Master's wife leaving with a wheel barrel and follows her only to see her murder a homeless man and put his body in the cart. From here the story twists and turns as it takes you through the horrific tale of the Unfortunate Man, Victoria, The Puppet Master, his wife, the puppets and the events leading to the climactic end of the story.

As King describes it this album is going to make the hairs stand up on the back of listeners neck. The rules of censorship are being thrown out the window...this is going to be the rawest story/album we have ever done. King was also quick to point out that if you are into horror; you're definitely going to get it with this album! The Puppet Master is sure to be considered one of King's goriest and most extreme stories yet!

Up, On & Over (Awaiting Repress)

The album is a collection of songs defined by the band's ability to step out of their comfort zone and push forward. Leading the way is first single "Further
On," an optimistic anthem steeped in summertime brightness. "Further On" started making waves months before the album's anticipated release, when it
was tapped as the soundtrack to the PGA Tour's national ad campaign featuring Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. The rest of the record follows suit with
strong hooks, twangy guitars, and driving percussion. While we can't be sure where Bronze Radio Return's story will take them next, Up, On & Over is an
exciting new chapter in their journey. Keep an eye out as their story unfolds, taking us all for a ride moving... well Further On.

Formed in 2008, Bronze Radio Return's line-up took a few years to solidify, though most of the band's members were orbiting each other for years at the
Hartt School, one of the country's best schools of music, located in Hartford, Connecticut. For debut Old Time Speaker, the band relocated to Nashville for
a two-week period, to, as lead vocalist Chris Henderson puts it, "A place we'd never been with a producer we'd never met, and played a bunch of songs
we'd never played before." For such an inauspicious set of circumstances, the band managed a solid and well-received debut, and forged a lasting bond
with producer Chad Copelin (Ivan & Alyosha, Train.) Old Time Speaker established the band's relentless touring schedule, including an invitation to
represent the Connecticut music scene by performing for President Obama at an event in Bridgeport, CT in 2010. Fan favorites "Digital Love" and "Lo-Fi"
have been picked up for advertising and television licensing and the album landed on CMJ's Top 200 Album Chart.
