    The Church Within

The Church Within is the final album by The Obsessed. It was released in 1994. Produced in California by M.C. Snoob. The back reads No Love Stronger/No Pain Greater/No Hate Deeper/The Church Within. And they certainly went out with a bang by releasing this classic metal album, inspiring and paving the way for many of todays popular metal bands.

    The Church Within

    Features Two Bonus Tracks

Includes Added Photos and Original Album Art With Lyrics

Includes a New Note From Wino Himself

Biker metal, doom metal, stoner metal whatever metal subgenre you
want to fit him into, Scott "Wino" Weinrich has been at the forefront of it
for over thirty years. The unmistakable rasp of his lead vocals and thick, fuzzy Gibson
guitar tone have spearheaded bands ranging from Saint Vitus to Spirit Caravan to Probot,
but for many his crowning achievement (and most accessible one) was The Church
Within, the last album he made with his first band, The Obsessed, for Columbia in 1994.

His lone major label release, The Church Within features the dark vision and crushing,
slow-motion riffs beloved by fans of Black Sabbath, but the driving intensity and atonal guitar solos recall
Motörhead and Black Flag, respectively; in short, this album transcends genre classifications even as it defines
them. Now, for the first time, this lost classic of '90s metal is being reissued by Real Gone Music on double
180-gram gatefold vinyl with two bonus tracks (the single "Mental Kingdom" and the unreleased track "Melancholy
Grey"), added photos, the original album art with lyrics and a new note from Wino himself. Everyone from Henry
Rollins to Dave Grohl to Ian MacKaye has sung Wino's praises time to join the chorus.

    Shore Obsessed

Soft Circle started as the solo project of Hisham Akira Bharoocha after he left the experimental band Black Dice in 2004. Bharoocha started out making tribal/electronic/ambient soundscapes that forged paths between the spirit world and the human clans of the past and present using looping equipment, electronics, drums, and voice. His recent music is still based on this fascination with repetition, cyclical rhythms, and trance-inducing tones, but has gone further in the direction of heavy beats and more solidified song structures, with Bharoocha now using lyrics as a means to communicate.

Soft Circles new album, Shore Obsessed (Post Present Medium), is its first to feature collaborations from new member and multi-instrumentalist Benjamin Vida (Town and Country, Bird Show, Singer), and includes additional vocals by singer/songwriter Matteah Baim. The album serves as a comment on the current state of our disturbed planet. Deeply frightened by the way the governments of all nations and the wealthy use their power to drain the planet of its resources without taking into account the destruction of the environment or the toll on the global economy, Bharoocha sings about the bottomless pit of greed and the lack of humanitarianism that we as a people must get back in touch with. Shore Obsessed uses more traditional song structures than on past releases, as well as dance-music beats, to entice the audience to move, a positive act, and to think progressively when listening to the lyrics.

    The Second Mechanism

The departure of two founder members of the band in 2010 forced Diagonal to regroup, to re-build. The Second Mechanism is the sound of that band reborn, ready to propel listeners on a journey to the outer reaches of rock music. The normal rules do not apply here; there is only the obsessive, unashamed spirit of eclecticism and no-holds-barred musical excess.
Thunderous and hypnotic; euphoric and brutal, Diagonal is uncompromising in its approach and fearless in the creation of music which combines Prog, Jazz, Psych, Krautrock and Metal into an intense and explosive mixture which seems to belong to neither past, present nor future, yet somehow sounds like all three. This is the sound of The Second Mechanism.

'You talkin' to ME?!?': undeniably one of the most famous quotes from movie history from one of its most memorable characters. Travis Bickle, the frustrated Vietnam veteran in Taxi Driver; the lonely nut obsessed with sex and violence who takes a job as a cabbie to battle his insomnia. Robert De Niro's legendary performance ensured that this Scorcese classic ended up on many a 'best movie of all time' lists. It was also Bernard Herrmann's last ever soundtrack. Hitchcock's favorite composer died just a few hours after completing the score. Like no other he composed a dark and threatening atmosphere that drags you into Bickle's twisted mind.

    Construction Time Again

The full addition of Alan Wilder to Depeche Mode's lineup created a perfect troika that would last another 11 years, as the combination of Martin Gore's songwriting, Wilder's arranging, and David Gahan's singing and live star power resulted in an ever more compelling series of albums and singles. Right from the album's first song, Love in Itself, something is clearly up; Depeche never sounded quite so thick with its sound before, with synths arranged into a mini-orchestra/horn section and real piano and acoustic guitar spliced in at strategic points. Two tracks later, Pipeline offers the first clear hint of an increasing industrial influence (the bandmembers were early fans of EinstÜrzende Neubauten), with clattering metal samples and oddly chain gang-like lyrics and vocals. The album's clear highlight has to be Everything Counts, a live staple for years, combining a deceptively simple, ironic lyric about the music business with a perfectly catchy but unusually arranged blending of more metallic scraping samples and melodica amid even more forceful funk/hip-hop beats. Elsewhere, on Shame and Told You So, Gore's lyrics start taking on more of the obsessive personal relationship studies that would soon dominate his writing. Wilder's own songwriting contributions are fine musically, but lyrically, preachy puts it mildly, especially the environment-friendly The Landscape Is Changing.

Rising out of the same Maryland/DC mean streets as fellow US doom pioneers Pentagram and The Obsessed, IRON MAN was formed in 1988 as a Black Sabbath tribute band by guitarist Alfred Morris III, whose musical career began in 1977 with mysterious proto-doom cult FORCE. Al's legendarily heavy, unearthly guitar tone was already much in evidence on FORCE's ultra-rare 1981 debut EP - and it has only deepened, hardened, improved and refined in the ensuing 32 years.

Signed to the legendary underground doom label Hellhound Records, IRON MAN released the stellar 'Black Night' debut in 1993, followed by 'The Passage' in 1994, before line-up and label instability forced the band into a late 90s wilderness period. They re-emerged in 1999 with 'Generation Void', before another extended hiatus. This time it took a full ten years before Al reassembled the indestructible IRON MAN with yet another new line-up for the aptly-named return-to-form 'I Have Returned' on Shadow Kingdom.

South of the Earth is, without question, Iron Mans strongest, heaviest release to date. The time has come for a wider audience to finally appreciate the grinding majesty of this true underground phenomena.

    Dissemble

Debut album follows the release of two self-titled EPs over the past 12 months. Dissemble was recorded with Matt Peel at The Nave, a hometown studio situated in the wholly appropriate setting of a disused church. The band co-produced the record with Peel over six intense weeks, dedicating all of their time to the studio and taking potentially unhealthy cues from the legacy of notorious obsessive, Martin Hannett. The result is an album that pushes the band through various degrees of light and shade, but ultimately into new, unexpected sonic spaces.

    Truth Serum

Before 2011's 'King of In Between' Garland Jeffreys went thirteen years without releasing any new music. Since that album, which top critics like Ann Powers, Robert Christgau and Ken Tucker hailed as among the best of his career, Jeffreys has performed on Letterman, toured the US and Europe extensively, and written over 50 new songs, some of which will appear on his new album 'Truth Serum,' a stripped down, politically charged cri de coeur to be released September 17 on Luna Park Records with marketing services and distribution through Thirty Tigers. A full national tour will follow, kicking off September 23 at Rockwood2 in NYC, and including performances at McCabe's in Santa Monica, Old Town School of Folk in Chicago and more.

'Truth Serum' was produced by Jeffreys with production support by James Maddock and Larry Campbell (Bob Dylan, Levon Helm), with backing from some of NYC's top session musicians: Steve Jordan (drums), Zev Katz (bass), Duke Levine (guitar) and Brian Mitchell (keys). Impressionistic and brimming with urgency, the album's ten songs grew out of material culled from over 75 unlabeled, cassette tapes - Jeffreys' preferred platform for capturing inspiration. "The obsessions, the imagery, the things I care most about were all on those cassettes," he says. "I love their compression and ragged feel."

Though Jeffreys has been releasing music since the 1960s, and recently celebrated his 70th birthday, he has never been busier or more prolific. "This record is a kind of Rorschach of me, the boiled down essence of where I am today," he explains. "I'm secretly longing for brotherhood, harmony, justice, and discouraged by how rarely that happens in the world."

    Aerosmith

Remastered from the original source tapes!

Contains the classics Dream On & Mama Kin

In retrospect, it's a bit shocking how fully formed the signature Aerosmith sound was on their self-titled 1973 debut -- which may not be the same thing as best-executed, because this album still sounds like a first album, complete with the typical stumbles and haziness that comes with a debut. Despite all this, Aerosmith clearly showcases all the attributes of the band that would become the defining American hard rock band of the '70s. Here, the Stones influences are readily apparent, from the Jagger-esque phrasing of Steven Tyler to the group's high-octane boogie, but the group displays little of the Stones' deep love of blues here. Instead, Aerosmith is bloozy -- their riffs don't swing, they slide. They borrow liberally from Led Zeppelin's hybridization of Chess and Sun riffs without ever sounding much like Zep. They are never as British as Zeppelin -- they lack the delicate folky preciousness, they lack the obsession with blues authenticity, they lack the larger-than-life persona of so many Brit bands. They are truly an American band, sounding as though they were the best bar band in your local town, cranking out nasty hard-edged rock, best heard on Mama Kin, the best rocker here, one that's so greasy it nearly slips through their fingers. But the early masterpiece is, of course, Dream On, the first full-fledged power ballad. There was nothing quite like it in 1973, and it remains the blueprint for all power ballads since. The rest of the record contains the seeds of Aerosmith's sleazoid blues-rock, but they wouldn't quite perfect that sound until the next time around.

    Never Trust A Happy Song

Never Trust A Happy Song is the debut album from LA indie-rockers Grouplove. The release is a brawny, ecstatic album filled with ambitious, varied, expansive, tunes underscored by crisp percussion and killer harmonies. The variety in the musical taste and writing styles of each member really makes each of our songs unique, drummer/producer Ryan Rabin explains. The honest, open-minded process we go through in rehearsal and in the studio brings the songs home and gives them the 'Grouplove' sound.

Under the Grouplove banner, Colours, became a delicate but powerful slow/fast jam. Itchin On A Photograph is a soaring epic propelled by spacey guitar licks and vigorous handclaps. And Tongue Tied, is an electronic infused dance anthem that showcases the bands obsession with careening harmonies.

Hannah Hooper (keyboards), Andrew Wessen (guitar) and Sean Gadd (bass) all share vocal duties and take their turn fronting the band, though Christian Zucconi (guitar) sings lead on most songs, Ryan produces all of their material, and all five bandmembers receive songwriting credit on every tune: Grouplove is a true collaboration.

The albums title initially seems ironic: on the surface the bands vibe comes off as happy, the songs soar with a kind of shimmering, youthful exuberance. But just beneath that sunny sheen, there is a reservoir of longing and melancholy. The Grouplove signature is blending those two pillars of life: sorrow and joy. Hannah explains, As individuals we are heavier, darker, but when we are together we bring the love.

    Won't Let You Down

In the 12 years she has toured the world as a member of the soul-pop sensation Lake Street Dive, Bridget Kearney has fine-tuned many things -- voracious collaborating, acclaimed bass playing, and harmonizing to name a few. But the skill she has honed most obsessively is songwriting. While still a student at The New England Conservatory of Music, Kearney won the grand prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, a harbinger of things to come. Now, Kearney steps into the spotlight with her first solo effort, a wry, bighearted pop album entitled Won't Let You Down. The record, like its title, promises not to disappoint. Shades of The Beatles, Wilco, Fleetwood Mac and even Nick Cave can be detected, as the album swerves from '60s pop to modern indie-rock.

We're Gonna Change The World - The 60's Chicago Garage Sound Of Quill Records

Chicago was a great place to be if you were a member of a rock & roll combo in the mid-'60s -- there were plenty of teen clubs, radio stations were happy to play local product, and several Windy City labels were ready and willing to take hometown acts into the studio and get their music into stores. Dunwich Records and USA Records were the biggest labels in Chicago and both scored a handful of national hits, but they were far from the only game in town, and Peter Wright, a successful record promo man who went on to manage the New Colony Six, ran one of the city's most interesting small labels, Quill Records, which released top-notch sides on a number of fine groups and licensed a few of his masters to larger labels out of town.

While Quill only lasted a bit less than two years (from 1966 to 1967), their output was impressive stuff from an eclectic variety of acts, and the great reissue label Sundazed, only a few months after releasing a definitive two-disc overview of the USA Records catalog (2131 South Michigan Avenue: 60's Garage and Psychedelia from U.S.A. and Destination Records), have unearthed 19 highlights from Quill's archives on We're Gonna Change the World! The 60's Chicago Garage Sound of Quill Productions.

Many of Quill's acts followed the trends of the major British acts of the day, but hardly all of them; the Exterminators deliver a screed against long hair and take an America first position on rock with the over the top Declaration of Independence '65, Hot Pastrami by the Don Caron Orchestra is a high-powered instrumental dominated by honking saxophones and fuzzy guitars, and I'm Going to Change the World by the Commons Ltd. suggests the psychedelic revolution that was lurking around the corner while still maintaining a high degree of sneer and swagger.

And even the acts that were looking to the U.K. for inspiration were turning their eyes to unusual places; the Delights were clearly obsessed with the Zombies, so much so that their original tune Every Minute, Every Hour, Every Moment mimics their style just as well as their cover of Just Out of Reach, and the Skunks, who true to their name bleached stripes into their hair, also leaned to the moody side of British pop with Don't Ask Why and a fine cover of the Beatles' It's Only Love (though Do the Duck is a raw and fuzzy celebration of some would-be dance craze).

    Baptizm

It's grim, but strangely beautiful, a formula Rabit seems
to have nailed. - Resident Advisor

Featured in a 'Artists who will define 2014' list compiled
    by The Fader.

Over the past 2 years Rabit has developed a formidable reputation within the underground via a steady stream of acclaimed 12 releases and mixtapes. On an emotional level Baptizm is about having one's life thrown completely out of order and finding solace in an imagined world. Themes of destruction and regeneration dominate throughout as well as an ongoing obsession on the often-ugly clash between sexuality and religion. All in all 'Baptizm' finds Rabit continuing to feel out the parameters of his increasingly alien sonic world in a typically exciting fashion.

    Blossom

Milky Chance will release their sophomore album Blossom on Republic Records. The first single Cocoon, inspired by trying to find a period of reflection on the runaway success of their first album, has already reached Top 25 at Alternative Radio. Time describes the song as Somewhere between the folksy rock of Vampire Weekend and the haunting electropop of Beach House, adding that it's, low-key alt-rock that appeals to indie listeners and mainstream pop fans. Indie Shuffle writes, They have wonderfully upbeat songs and can also put on a pretty solid live performance, and Indie Obsessive claims, The band's sound combines deep, organic warmth instrumental arrangements and it also brings forth a palpable sense of returning to a place of serenity.

    Live at Fillmore East

Ranked 49/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Considered by many to be one of the greatest live albums of all time, this classic album by the Allman Brothers, recorded at the pinnacle of their success, was a huge hit for the band. In 1971, the Allman Brothers were already one of the most popular groups in America, but by the time this album hit the streets their brand of Southern rock had become a national obsession. Live At Fillmore East was also the band's last with guitar hero Duane Allman who was killed in a motorcycle accident later that year.
