    Runners In The Nerved World

Produced by Phil Ek (Built to Spill, Band of Horses, Shins)

LP Contains CD Of Full Album

Growing up is weird. Very few of us ever end up doing that thing for a living that we imagined we might when we
were kids. Even fewer end up doing the same thing for the rest of our lives that we were doing as teenagers, even if
that thing happens to be making music with our friends. In the case of The Sidekicks, a teenage affinity for playing
propulsive punk rock somehow, against all odds, managed to turn into a full-time life pursuit. After nearly a decade
of making noisy rock music, releasing albums on tiny local labels, and incubating in the Cleveland scene, The Sidekicks
are ready to meet the waiting world with their Epitaph debut Runners in the Nerved World.

For the recording of Runners in the Nerved World the band- Steve Ciolek (Vocals & Guitar), Matt Climer (Drums),
and Ryan Starinsky (Bass)-decamped to Seattle to work with famed indie-rock producer Phil Ek, a pairing that
proved to be something of a dream come true for Ciolek. The results, on tracks like "The Kid Who Broke His Wrist"
and "Deer," bring to mind the kind of jangly pop euphoria of early Band of Horses or old Built to Spill records, while
"Everything in Twos" is the kind of pop punk jam seemingly tailor made for singing along in a car at peak volume.

    Only Built 4 Cuban Linx

Originally released in 1995, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx is the critically acclaimed solo debut from rapper and Wu-Tang Clan member Raekwon. Considered among the best Wu-Tang solo albums, the cinematic set features a Mafia narrative throughout and numerous guest appearances from his famous group most notably from RZA who supplies the gritty, layered production and Ghostface Killah who holds down sidekick duties like no other. Debuting at #4 on the Billboard 200 chart and #2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx went on to a gold certification thanks to the popular singles Heaven & Hell, Criminology, Ice Cream and Rainy Dayz. iFi Audio Ear Buddy

Have a question about this product? Please email our audio advisor or call 1-877-929-8729 with any questions or concerns regarding your equipment purchase.

Do your headphones suffer from hiss and pops or an irritating loud blast?

You need Ear Buddy®- the hiss busting sidekick and model companion from iFi.

    Perfect for:

    • In-flight systems
    • Smartphones
    • Computers
    • A/V systems
    • High-end audio systems

How to use: Ear Buddy® fits between your Smartphone/Digital Audio Player and your headphones. Just plug in and play.

The Ear Buddy® gets rid of annoying hisses and buzzes and allows you to turn up your digital volume to a higher level to improve resolution and quality without making you deaf!

With your Smartphone or DAP, normally you probably listen to music with the digital volume control set at 60%. This means you have lost 2Bits of resolution. Basically, it's like watching HD TV with some of the pixels from the screen missing. It's okay - but you are not getting what you paid for.

You can turn it up to full volume but your ears (or the people around you) would not thank you for it. Adding the Ear Buddy® 'attenuates' or adjusts the volume and safely allows you to crank up the digital volume on your smartphone or DAP without painful consequences! This equals more music information being conveyed and gives you back those 2Bits and the full High Res music experience!

Hiss is very annoying when listening with headphones. This is caused by the mismatch between too much power from the smartphone/DAP when used with headphones which are high sensitivity.

The solution by IFI is to 'attenuate' or adjust the signal that cuts out the hiss and puts the enjoyment back into listening.

    The Mono Singles '68 - '72

Texas-bred singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Doug Sahm was one of the most important musicians ever to emerge from the Lone Star state, and an inspiration to multiple generations of roots-conscious rock 'n' rollers. Sahm did much of his most beloved work as leader of the seminal Sir Douglas Quintet, the audaciously eclectic band that first burst onto the national scene in 1965. With trusty sidekick Augie Meyers providing distinctive support on the Vox organ, the Quintet delivered an infectious, eclectic mix that encompassed Tex-Mex border pop, raw garage-rock, hipster honky-tonk, horn-driven R&B and more.

The Sir Douglas Quintet's most productive and influential period was its late-'60s/early-'70s stint with Mercury Records and its sister labels Smash and Philips. That period saw the SDQ relocate from Texas to San Francisco and record some of their most enduring and adventurous music. And that music never sounded better than on the mono mixes that graced the singles that the band released during that period, which are collected on this deluxe set.

The Mono Singles' 22 songs include the band's 1969 signature smash Mendocino, along with such Sahm standards as At the Crossroads, Dynamite Woman, Nuevo Laredo, Texas Me, And It Didn't Even Bring Me Down, Michoacan and his heartfelt rendition of Freddy Fender's Wasted Days, Wasted Nights, plus a selection of rare non-album B-sides. The collection also features Sahm's historic Nashville recording Be Real, which he released under the pseudonym Wayne Douglas in an attempt to break into the conservative mainstream country market.

This unique collection has been sourced from the original analog mono masters. The high-definition vinyl 2-LP set comes with extensive liner notes and lavish artwork.

Standing At The Crossroads (Pure Pleasure)

This is one of several albums this artist made in the early '70s that stand as a masterpiece of the acoustic country blues genre. Johnny Shines had begun recording in the mid-'60s, the albums done with electric guitar and full-combo backup, one of them reportedly cut after he hadn't picked up an instrument in years. It was as if he reinvented himself in the following decade, playing pristine and flawless acoustic slide guitar pieces complete with shuffling, stuttering, and stimulatingly complicated tempos. The message was that he had been a young sidekick to Robert Johnson and had absorbed everything, although no deal had been made with the Devil. Shines was a steady, dependable, religious, and forthright chap who lived in Tuscaloosa, AL., and held down a steady job as a construction foreman. Mild-mannered and extremely intellectual, he let loose the reserve of emotion when doing a Delta blues number. The magic and heart were in his fingertips as well as in his voice, which sounds stupendous here. The emergence of the Johnson song canon into his repertoire, done with almost Baroque detail, was also something of a revelation. Some of Shines' earlier albums had featured songs that almost seemed made up on the spot. He was good at that, and was rumored to have played whole sets that were completely improvised when working the country juke joints of his home state, but on this album he showed what he could do when sinking his teeth into a bona fide blues classic. Kind Hearted Woman is the musical equivalent of an absolutely perfect chopped-barbecue sandwich with sauce the way they do it in Tuscaloosa, and obviously of much less offense to vegetarians when taken in this form. There were 11 perfect songs chosen by Pete Welding from his set of recording sessions for this project. Once again this great producer has come up with a blues release that is basically a required item for any good collection of this genre.

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Alan Bates took Thelonious Monk into the studio for his first trio recording in fifteen years with his old sidekick Art Blakey. It has been said often enough that Blakey is the ideal drummer for Monk, and one has only to hear them together again after all this time to realize the truth of the statement. If Blakey at times seems to push the pianist almost too hard, that is in fact the nature of their musical relationship. And, throughout the session, Blakey appeared to be vying with the producer in alternately cajoling and coercing Monk into fulfilling various requests from the small invited audience.

    Musicians:

    • Thelonious Monk (piano)

    • Al McKibbon (bass)

    • Art Blakey (drums)

Recording: November 1971 at Chappell Studios, London, by John Timperley

    Production: Alan Bates
