The Zephyr MK III Features A 2 Year Warranty To The Original Owner

    Made In The USA

The new Zephyr MK III has achieved what no other cartridge has done since its inception; rapid recognition as a leading force in phono cartridge design and performance.

The Soundsmith Zephyr MkIII enjoys a great history, starting with the well loved VPI Zephyr original, which evolved into the well known Zephyr MKII. In our effort to bring you even higher definition without increase in cost, we introduce the NEW Zephyr MKIII. It features a newly developed aluminum alloy - the same one we are now using in the Paua MKII, just released. This new metal alloy has unique dualistic properties, providing stiffness in the ranges required as well as damping exactly where its needed - and by the proper amount - in the most critical parts of the sonic spectrum. The result is a cartridge that will slam your Rock and Roll while providing a new level of linearity and clarity for the most complex classical and jazz passages.

Attached to our new cantilever material is a tiny new super low mass High Profile Contact Line diamond we have developed for the new Zephyr MKIII. This stylus traces more of the groove walls than a standard contact line, but avoids some of the alignment pitfalls that can occur with a high profile contact line design, allowing more azimuth alignment forgiveness than is normally possible with such designs.

These improvements are paired with technology borrowed from our higher end line; Trickle Down technology from a unique Dynamic Energy Management System (DEMS) developed by Soundsmith that moves the damped energy and propagates it properly within the cartridge body. This is a similar system we employ in the Soundsmith's well received and reviewed high end Sussurro Cartridge.

The new Zephyr MKIII is capable of truly remarkable separation and sound stage imaging at a level not previously achievable in a modestly priced design. The composite body and unique DEMS design work in tandem to contribute to the Zephyr MkIII's ability to produce high-end performance from a moderately priced cartridge. Be prepared to sit back and realize......you may have never really heard your record collection before.

The Zephyr MkIII will provide a level of clarity and beauty that will make you take out your record collection and listen to it all over again.

    Also available in dual-coil mono

    Smith Westerns

Rummaging through 1970s glam, Phil Spector teen-pop, and Nuggets garage-punk with the youthful abandon of kids finding new toys in the attic, the Smith Westerns' self-titled debut exudes an earnestness almost as pure as its recording levels are deafening. Their simple, sweet choruses about boys and girls in love could spike the punch at a 1970s TV show school dance.

When singing guitarist Cullen Omori, his bassist brother Cameron, second guitarist Max Kakacek, and a drummer known as Hal have the tunes to make themselves heard over their vintage aesthetic, The Smith Westerns' teenage kicks are hard to beat. Take string-swept glam ballad Be My Girl. which softly punctuates one of the year's most wrenchingly innocent hooks with somewhat risque pick-up lines. There's less lyrical subtext, but no less raunchy production, on the glam-rock boogie of Girl in Love, a come-on cursorily addressing the fleetingness of youth. It's only fitting that the Smith Westerns both look and sound like the Black Lips' good-bad not-evil twins.

These guys are sort of literally true to their school, garage-rocker Miss Alex White is a fellow Northside College Prep magnet-school alum, and their time on the road with the likes of Jay Reatard and Nobunny is evident on fine 60s-style frat-rocker Gimme Some Time. With fuzzed-out xylophone, frenetic opener Dreams suggests the group's most recent tour with Girls and Los Campesinos! might serve them better for a follow-up. Diamond Boys almost earns its piano on the strength of its adolescent grandiosity, but We Stay Out lets lo-fi become the end rather than the means, with a guitar line that sounds like a bee buzzing underwater.

LaVern Baker Sings Bessie Smith (Speakers Corner)

It was 1958 when a passably successful R&B singer entered the recording studio with an all-star band to tape a dozen songs from the global repertoire of a legendary blues vocalist. The old-fashioned style in LaVern Baker's tribute to Bessie Smith might seem somewhat strange in the midst of popular R&B numbers and the growing productivity of the Motown hit machines, but it certainly found favour with the public. And for a very good reason too! Right from the very first number, Gimme A Pigfoot, the snappy bass line conjures up the ballroom atmosphere of the Twenties. A bluesy dialogue with the trumpet (Baby Doll, I Ain't Gonna Play No Second Fiddle), alternating with robustly orchestrated swing rhythms (On Revival Day), and time and again cool, faltering blues (Black Water Blues) guarantee great listening and entertainment. The great names in the band read like a Who Is Who of outstanding musicians - Nat Pierce, Buck Clayton, Paul Quinichette, Urbie Green and Jimmy Cleveland, all who crown the fantastic sound of their performance with relaxed and easy-going solos and finely balanced background playing that would hardly be more authentic on a live stage. And by the way, fans of traditional big-band swing will love this album too.

This Speakers Corner LP was remastered using pure analogue components only, from the master tapes through to the cutting head. All royalties and mechanical rights have been paid.

    Musicians:

    • LaVern Baker (vocals)

    • Paul Quinichette (tenor saxophone)

    • Jerome Richardson (bassoon)

    • Jimmy Cleveland, Urbie Green (trombone)

    • Buck Clayton (trumpet)

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    The Reiner Sound

RCA Living Stereo classical LPs - the gold standard for top quality orchestral performance and sound!

Remastered and cut at 33 1/3 RPM by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound

Lacquers plated by Gary Salstrom and pressed on 200-gram vinyl at Quality Record Pressings!

Grade: A+. As good as this record has ever sounded. Liquidly beautiful string and wind tone, very deep and powerful bass (although the orchestra occasionally overloads the mics or mic preamps, as it does on the original RCA pressings), sensational dynamics on both the Ravel Rapsodie and the Rachmaninoff Isle of the Dead (with some of the lifelike ease you usually only hear on reel-to-reel tape), and astonishing preservation of inner detail (some of which I haven't heard before this clearly on vinyl or digital). - Jonathan Valin, The Absolute Sound.com, June 11, 2013

Yet another giant of the Living Stereo series. The Isle Of The Dead is a truly awesome orchestral spectacular with dynamic peaks that will stun most listeners. Also included is the equally stirring version of Rhapsodie Espagnole.

    Absent Sounds

From Indian Lakes return with their self-produced new album, Absent Sounds, the follow up to the self-released
Able Bodies. The band, who has previously been described as "what a modern day rock & roll band could sound like
if they were giving their own spin off of an Elliot Smith album," - Underthegunreview.

Started in 2007 by singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joey Vannucchi, From Indian Lakes has since expanded
to include Justin Stanphill (guitar and vocals), Chris Kellogg (bass and vocals), Tohm Ifergan (drums), and Enrique Gutierrez
    (keys and vocals).

Their debut album, 'The Man With Wooden Legs' was released in 2009 and was quickly followed up by a fan favorite,
'Acoustic EP', which Joey recorded and mixed in a home studio. After a few years of writing, touring, and building their
fan base, they released 'Able Bodies' in November 2013. The album took the music scene by storm and remains in high
acclaim by countless sites, magazines, blogs, and of course, their fans.

'Absent Sounds'will be the band's first album since signing to Triple Crown Records in 2013. From Indian Lakes explores
what it means to be alive throughout the album; "Sleeping Limbs," is an echoing and ethereal song that asks, "What's the
point to this?" Meanwhile "Am I Alive," uses sweet and lilting melodies to lift the mood.

King Jammy Presents New Sounds Of Freedom

King Jammy is one of reggae's most prolific and innovative producers, with New Sounds Of Freedom he shows himself strong once again.

New Sounds of Freedom adds a new chapter to a story that now bridges three albums. In 1977 Black Uhuru recorded "Love Crisis" a 10
song classic from the defining era in reggae. The rhythms were laid at Harry J's Recording studio with Sly & Robbie, Chinna Smith, Johnny
Osbourne, Winston Wright and Gladstone Anderson among others. Then voiced and mixed at King Tubby's studio. The album was later
remixed by Prince Jammy at King Tubby's and released in 1981 as Black Sounds of Freedom.

The 1981 version serves as the inspiration and jump off point for these raw and vibrant new tracks featuring original vocal performances
from Chronixx, Gentleman, Alborosie, Dre Island, Tony Rebel and others. The 10 song collection will be released on CD and vinyl LP.

    Horses (Speakers Corner) (Awaiting Repress)

Ranked 44/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Patti Smith, the first published poet to move her poetry completely into rock 'n' roll and to entice experimental rock fans into the forbidden cinema of her hallucinatory fantasy (New York Times), began her musical career unconventionally. It took off at a poetry reading where she was backed by Lenny Kaye on guitar; later star photographer Robert Mapplethorpe financed her punk-rock cult single Hey Joe. In 1975, encouraged by her success, Patti Smith released Horses, an album in which she fused rock riffs and spoken rhythms to create a punk-trash sound. The rock scene was electrified, raging about the best garage sound of the 70s (Creem Magazine) and conjectured that Smith had drawn up material from Rimbaud, Burroughs, Dylan and Velvet Underground into a hot needle and injected it under the skin (Sounds Magazine). Later productions were dismissed as sentimental and self-loving outpourings, since the rock-poet didn't continue in the same vein as Horses, with its metallic harshness and raw language. That's why this recording remains an impressive unique production by a visionary rock 'n' roll singer.

    Musicians:

    Killer Road

Double LP With Gatefold Sleeve And 16-Page Booklet

LP 1 Is Black Vinyl, LP 2 Is White Colored Vinyl

A shimmering ambient tone, an electronic underlay to the lulling chatter of
crickets, makes way for the unmistakable voice of Patti Smith, quietly intoning,
ominously, "The killer road is waiting for you / like a finger, pointing in the night."

Behind the music and concept of Killer Road is international trio Soundwalk
Collective - Stephan Crasneanscki, Simone Merli, and Kamran Sadeghi - who,
alongside Patti Smith's daughter, Jesse Paris, conceived an immersive exploration
of the tragic death of Christa PÄffgen. Better known as Nico, the Velvet
Underground chanteuse and solo pioneer, PÄffgen died while riding her bike on
the island of Ibiza in the summer of 1988. Ironically, she'd recently got her health
back, after fifteen years of heroin addiction. It was Nico's body's reaction to its
new sobriety, and the fact she was cycling at the hottest time of the day, on the
hottest day of the year, that was to prove her undoing.

In the years before she died, Nico had not neglected her creative muse, writing
poetry that would never be published, or heard, until now, in the form of the
opening title track, "Killer Road." The tracks that follow are eight interpretations
of Nico lyrics, predominantly taken from classic albums such as Desertshore and
Drama of Exile, arranged by fellow poet and kindred spirit Patti Smith.

The roots of Killer Road lie in a fortuitous meeting on an airplane bound for New
York. One passenger was Smith; the other was Soundwalk Collective founder
Crasneanscki. Soundwalk had previously been a collaborative series of walking
guides to cities that created an idiosyncratic and evocative understanding for the
listener, before evolving into musical frameworks for field recordings and sight
specific sound installations and performances using a variety of texts and themes.

Killer Road was initially a live audio-visual experience, at the French Institute
Alliance Francaise in New York as part of 2014's Crossing the Line festival. Finally,
we now have the recorded version, a poignant, profound, imaginative exploration
and tribute nearly 30 years after that fateful summer's day.

    Vauxhall & I

    20th Anniversary Definitive Master

While it isn't a gutsy rock & roll record like Your Arsenal, Vauxhall and I is equally impressive. Filled with carefully constructed guitar pop gems, the album contains some of Morrissey's best material since the Smiths. Out of all of his solo albums, Vauxhall and I sounds the most like his former band, yet the textured, ringing guitar on this record is an extension of his past, not a replication of it. In fact, with songs like Now My Heart Is Full and Hold on to Your Friends, Morrissey sounds more comfortable and peaceful than he ever has. And The More You Ignore Me, the Closer I Get, Speedway, and Spring-Heeled Jim prove that he hasn't lost his vicious wit.

    - Stephen Thomas Erlewine (All Music Guide)

As the lead singer of the Smiths, arguably the most important indie band in Britain during the '80s, Morrissey's theatrical crooning and literate, poetic lyrics -- filled with romantic angst, social alienation, and cutting wit -- connected powerfully with a legion of similarly sensitive, disaffected youth. These fans turned the Smiths into stars in Britain, exerting tremendous pull over much of the country's guitar-based music for many years after their breakup, and even if the group remained underground cult artists in the States, they had a fan base that slowly, steadily grew larger over the years. Indeed, a few years after the Smiths' breakup in 1987, Morrissey's American cult had grown to the point where he became more popular in the U.S. than in his homeland, where he nevertheless was never far from the music press headlines. After a quiet period around the turn of the millennium, Morrissey launched a comeback in 2004 with You Are the Quarry, an album whose success proved that he remained one of the most beloved figures in alternative rock.

Louis Smith was one of the most vital jazz trumpeters of the late 1950s. His beautiful tone, fluent style and exciting solos competed with Lee Morgan and even Miles Davis. Smithville, from 1958, features him at the peak of his powers. Recorded the same year as Smith's heated appearance at the Newport Jazz Festival with Horace Silver, Smithville features the trumpeter interacting with tenor-saxophonist Charlie Rouse and pianist Sonny Clark on some stunning performances. The title cut, a lengthy themeless blues, is full of creative solos, "Wetu" is explosive (with Rouse challenging Smith), and "Embraceable You" contains emotional solos that make the George Gershwin ballad sound brand new. Louis Smith proves to be a masterful player whose solos are full of surprises and honest emotions. Smithville is a gem that all hard bop collectors will cherish.

The Godmother Of Punk decided to focus on her family life and moved to Michigan, but not before leaving us with gems like the sexually mysterious 'Dancing Barefoot' (dedicated to her husband to be Fred 'Sonic' Smith) and her amazing, biting version of 'So You Want To Be (A Rock 'n' Roll Star)'. Produced by Todd Rundgren, this is her most pop-oriented album, and many at the time could not appreciate her more accessible sound. Nevertheless, 'Wave,' her spoken word tribute to Pope John Paul I (who reigned for only 33 days) is as touching and harrowing now as when it came out in 1979.

Drawing inspiration from disparate musical and poetic sources, two Mercury Prize nominees have come together in a playful departure from their respective work with Field Music and Maximo Park. Based around text from Paul Smith's travel writing, and Peter Brewis's chamber-band arrangements, the pair have collaborated on a suite of songs, creating a restrained yet richly descriptive sound-world.

    Rod For Your Love

On his newest record, Rod For Your Love, he gets back to basics. Produced by Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach and recorded in Nashville, Rod For Your Love roots itself in old-school, guitar-fueled rock & roll. These are love songs built for the garage and the dance floor, with big-hearted melodies and thick harmonies. It's the stuff you might've heard in the 1960s, back when groups like the Kinks and the Velvet Underground were making left-field pop songs that celebrated the form while still bending the rules. With stacked vocal harmonies that sweep their way throughout the track list, Rod For Your Love nods to the past while still moving forward. It's a classic-sounding album that still belongs to the 21st century.

    Dialogues

Vinyl version of the fourth full-length from Manchester-inspired Russian indie rock band Motorama.

Following the critically acclaimed third album 'Poverty', 'Dialogues' is the new full-length of the Manchester-inspired indie rock band Motorama. Brilliantly catchy and addictive songs that remains sunner despite Vlad's deep and dark voice.

Their aesthetic is rooted in early's 80s independent music, and suggests the moment when Joy Division morphed into New Order, the early recordings of The Smiths or even a more desolate Interpol. - Q

Uncannily, for a band from a southern port near the Ukraine border, Motorama resemble a bunch of New Yorkers emulating the sound of 80s Manchester. It would be preposterous if the result didn't sound so sublime. - BBC 6

    Hold Fast

Influenced by the optimism of The Beatles walking down the airliner steps at New York airport in '64 and the melancholy of The Smiths waiting by the cemetery gates in Manchester in '84,The Crookes tap into 50 years of British pop for their sounds, and 100 years of British social history for the word.

The Crookes are at the forefront of the latest wave of music to surface in the UK. They are four English Literature graduates whose music is bound with storytelling and tinged with nostalgia. Described by NYLON magazine as the 'potential leaders of England's smart, taut NEW POP movement' they personify English charm and eloquent, intelligent songwriting.

In 2010 Exposed Magazine readers voted and awarded The Crookes coveted 'Best Unsigned Band' award. Following the success of their debut album Chasing After Ghosts (2011) the band have built up a strong Cult following known as the "Bright Young Things" which further consolidates the strong aesthetic of the band. The band were chosen by Burberry to perform for their Burberry Acoustic range, as well as The Art of the Trench range. They were also taken out to Tokyo to represent the brand for Vogue's Fashion Night Out.

Following a slight line-up change in 2011 the band have now consolidated their more mature sound resulting in the release of their critically acclaimed second LP HOLD FAST.

"They are kings of romance (an important part of the New Pop brewing around the UK)... There is something almost subversive about their odd mix of influences (The Smiths/'60s girl groups/'50s rock and roll)... It's the romance of the Seine, of walking in the Peaks; or lying on your back reading and daydreaming. - Steve Lamacq BBC Radio 6Music

...a band this good are unlikely to remain obscure - NME

Lovingly, lavishly layered...the four piece take a big step forward. Not a second of these 33 watertight minutes are wasted. Hold Fast album review - Q Magazine

The simple, nearly silent moment was awe-inspiring and a welcome break from the nonstop noise of most shows. - SXSW review, Impact News-Austin.

    The New Face Of Smiling

The third album by New Zealand's Bevan Smith under his Signer nom de electronique continues the artful blending of folkish acoustic guitars, glitchy electronic beats, and slightly mournful minor-key indie pop tunes that have been Smith's raison d'etre all along. This time, Smith has slightly rounded the edges of his electronics, adding judicious amounts of reverb and phasing to soften the occasionally harsh sounds; on tracks like Komputa Ga Bukowarera, the results sound rather like My Bloody Valentine's guitar-centric soundscapes updated for the laptop generation.

The Fall are an English post-punk band, formed in Manchester in 1976. The band has existed in some form ever since, and is essentially built around its founder and only constant member Mark E. Smith. Initially associated with the punk movement of the late 1970s, the group's music has gone through several stylistic changes over the years, characterised by an abrasive guitar-driven sound and frequent use of repetition, and is always underpinned by Smith's distinctive vocals and often cryptic lyrics.

    Mic City Sons (Awaiting Repress)

The third and final album by Heatmiser, a band led by Elliott Smith and Hampshire College buddy Neil Gust, released in 1996 on Caroline Records, is hailed by all as their best effort. Unfortunately, the record was released as the band was breaking up.

The duo of Tom Rothrock and Rob Schnapf, that worked on both Elliott Smith solo albums for DreamWorks (XO and Figure 8), helped produce and record Mic City Sons. A true indie-rock classic that still sounds good today: if you are a fan of Elliott Smith you need this one as well. Here on 180 gram vinyl.

    Ben Sollee And Kentucky Native

Acclaimed cellist, composer, songwriter and activist Ben Sollee announces the release of Ben Sollee And Kentucky Native via Soundly Music. Tracing the origins of a traditional American genre back to early immigrants, Sollee takes a nontraditional approach, blending the influences of early Irish and Scottish musicians with the rhythms of Mexico, Africa, and India. This album is Sollee's most personally revealing work and a reflection of his native Kentucky, a place like many others, that's still helping refine the ever-changing Bluegrass genre.

Inspired by the interactions and collaborations of string musicians from all walks of life, Sollee and his bandmates recorded twelve songs in a cabin at the Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest in Clermont, KY. Each song was captured live as an ensemble with a mobile, analog studio and with just a few overdubs. Together, they thoughtfully reimagined a revered style with world music characteristics. The moving arrangement of Carrie Bell features syncopated African-influenced rhythms, which contrast Sollee's melodic cello. Drawing inspiration from this side of the globe, Mechanical Advantage is built on the foundations of the Huapango musical-dance genre in Mexico. Sollee's vision, influenced by the people, culture, and environment around him, is elevated by lyrics reflecting life and human nature.

Pieces Of You is a compelling and idealistic composition inspired by Sollee's friendship with conceptual artist Louis Zoellar Bickett II and his art exhibit 'The Archive.' The piece, which shows no distinction between personal mementos and trash, reminds Sollee of everyday artifacts in his life. Objects like a U.S. Postal name badge given to him by his grandfather and the marked-up sheet music from his first cello teacher could be considered worthless, but to Sollee, each has a story. In Presence which is perhaps the most poetic and personal, he shares a personal affinity for lying on his back in the deep end of a pool finding solace in the peacefulness of the water, before the need to come back to the surface. Just like that, he is thrown back into the frenetic pace of the real world and existence.

Ben Sollee and Kentucky Native was produced by Alex Krispin. Musicians on the album include Jordon Ellis (Percussion), Bennett Sullivan (Banjo), Julian Pinelli (Fiddle), Jonathan Estes (Bass), Josh Hari (Bass) and Jonah Smith (Background Vocals). Sollee wrote all but two songs on the album (Emily's Song and Carrie Bell).
