Sign 'O' The TimesIt begins with the insistent drip-drop of a sequencer and ends with some old school R&B. In between, the artist who was still calling himself Prince unfurls an encyclopedia of moods, genres, and grooves. Widely heralded as a groundbreaker in 1987, this two-LP set is clearly the sound of a performer at the height of his power. On songs like the title track, If I Was Your Girlfriend, and the thunderous The Cross, Prince proves why the hype was justified. --Amy LindenLP 1

All The TimeThe first new studio album since 2010 by soul giants the Temptations, All The Time, is set for release via UMe
The album contains their versions of songs made famous by Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Michael Jackson, The Weeknd and others, alongside three new original tracks. It features the group's current line-up of co-founder and sole surviving original member Otis Williams alongside Ron Tyson, Terry Weeks, Larry Braggs and Willie Greene. All The Time arrives 54 years after the appearance of the Temptations' first Motown album Meet The Temptations, released as they began to build their rare and legendary place in the history of soul music.
Among many notable inclusions, the Temptations' version of Sam Smith's 'Stay With Me' becomes a gospel-tinged love song, and the group bring their unique presence to The Weeknd's Fifty Shades Of Grey track 'Earned It.' Willams' unmistakeable speaking voice rings out over the introduction of Sheeran's 'Thinking Out Loud.'
The new songs on All The Time are 'Waitin' On You,' 'Be My Wife' and the funky 'Move Them Britches.' The bonus tracks on the digital album are a 'Gospel Mix' of 'Stay With Me' and a 'Heathens Mix' of 'Move Them Britches.'
Last autumn, the new musical Ain't Too Proud-The Life and Times of The Temptations became the highest-grossing production in the 50-year history of the Repertory Theatre in Berkeley, California. It has five-week engagements at the Kennedy Centre in Washington, DC in June and July, at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles in August and September and at Toronto's Princess of Wales Theatre in October, ahead of its Broadway debut.
As the modern-day Temptations continue to tour the world, Williams observes: "I'm 76 now. Looking back, I never could have imagined where my life has taken me. I'm so proud of what the Temptations have achieved, and I'm grateful for every opportunity we've been so fortunate to receive. The music carries me. Together, we lift our voices with love and wonder. The Time Is RightA soul survivor in every sense of the term, this alto saxophonist is one of the few remaining jazz artists who made a major impact on the jazz community via an extensive run with producer Alfred Lion and the Blue Note label (Horace Silver being another Blue Note legend that comes to mind). From his first recordings for the label with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, it was clear that Lou Donaldson put melody and sound at a premium, coming up with an amalgam that combined the creamy smoothness of Johnny Hodges with the quicksilver bop inflections of Charlie Parker. Everything All The TimeGuitarist/vocalist Ben Bridwell and bassist Mat Brooke formed Band Of Horses in 2004 after the dissolution of their nearly ten-year run in northwest melancholic darlings Carissa's Wierd. Carissa's Wierd trafficked in sadly beautiful orchestral pop, whose songs told unflinching stories of heartbreak and loss, leavened with defeatist humor. Band Of Horses rises from those ashes. Buoyed by Bridwell's warm, reverb-heavy vocals (which channel a strange brew of Wayne Coyne, Neil Young, and Doug Martsch), the group's woodsy, dreamy songs ooze with amorphous tension, longing, and hope. Both raggedly epic and delicately pensive, this is an album painted gorgeously in fragile highs and lows.1 The First Song

The Place And The Time+ Vinyl Only Bonus Track
Despite a myriad of obstacles, Moby Grape managed to persevere and create a potent and enduring body of recorded work, recording four albums during its original 1967-1969 lifespan. While 1967's Moby Grape is widely acknowledged as a classic and one of rock's greatest debut albums, the subsequent Wow, Moby Grape '69 and Truly Fine Citizen are all underrated gems.
It's a measure of the musicians' abundance of talent and creativity that, despite the multiple roadblocks that they confronted, Moby Grape recorded prolifically and cut a wealth of originally unreleased material. The Place and the Time offers a scintillating assortment of rare tracks cut during the band's heady 1967-1968 heyday and it is the first time any of these tracks have appeared on vinyl! Encompassing audition recordings, album outtakes, alternative versions, live material and more, the recordings offer a powerful testament to the remarkable rapport that made the band such a unique musical force. The fact that music this stunning and originally sat on the shelf for so long is just another in the litany of injustices that haunt the Moby Grape story. Fortunately, the band's majestic recorded legacy has outlasted the bad luck. The music remains as fresh and inspiring as ever, and the vintage material featured in this collection constitutes a crucial addition to Moby Grape's already monumental body of work.1. Featuring Sign 'O' The Times And La, La, La, He, He, Hee
Sign o' the Times is the lead single from American musician Prince's 1987 album of the same name. The song was originally intended for two separate Prince albums meant to be released in 1986, that were both shelved: Dream Factory and Crystal Ball. Prince sings and performs the entire track except for some backing vocals by then-girlfriend Susannah Melvoin, sister of Wendy, then a guitarist in The Revolution. Sign o' the Times was written and composed on a Sunday, when Prince usually wrote his most introspective songs.1. Sign 'O' The Times

The Second Time AroundImport
180 Gram LP With a Bonus CD of The Album!
Considered by many to be her best album, 1961's The Second Time Around, found Etta James performing a string of pop hits from the 1940s in an attempt to crossover to a wider audience. Songs like 1948's "It's Too Soon To Know" (the first rock & roll song ever), or 1946's "Fool That I Am", were both brought to life again here by James. The album's biggest hit however, was 1929's "Don't Cry Baby", first recorded by the Empress of the Blues, and James' idol, Bessie Smith.1. Don't Cry Baby

The Times They Are A-Changin'The Times They Are A-Changin' on Numbered Limited Edition 180 Gram 45RPM 2LP from Mobile Fidelity
Stark, Austere, Acoustic Record Dylan's First With All-Original Material
Title Track, The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll, With God on Our Side Establish Dylan as Voice of Social Consciousness
The Bard Addresses Issues Such as Equality, Racism, and Poverty and Helps Ignite 1960s Political Movements
Faithful to the Source: Information-Rich 45RPM Pressing Brings the Simple Sounds of Dylan's Voice, Acoustic Guitar, and Harmonica into Lifelike Perspective
Immediately distinguished by the you're-either-with-us-or-against-us messages of the landmark title track, Bob Dylan's The Times They Are A Changin' sounds an unmistakable clarion call on behalf of progress and its unstoppable advancement. One of the Bard's trademark songs, it remains a timeless anthem with a clear sense of common purpose, a musical line in the sand that helped unite various social movements and multiple generations. The reverential 1964 record feeds off the opening tune and its unmistakable sentiments, marching forward to confront racism, poverty, injustice, and upheaval in a stark, immediate manner unlike few albums before or since.
Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's world-renowned mastering system and pressed on 180 gram LP at RTI, this restored 45RPM analog version delivers the landscape-shifting music in reference-quality sound that practically transports you to Columbia's Studio A. Reflecting the austerity of the topics and Dylan's mood, the sonics are direct and unadorned-each word hitting with weight, each phrase lingering until it pulls you under, each storyline echoing as fact. The hollow body of Dylan's guitar, internal mechanisms of his harmonica, and graininess of his throat come across in full-on detail. Wider grooves mean more information reaches your ears.
Marking a shift from the looseness and comedy that pepper the preceding The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, The Times They Are A-Changin' skirts any attempt at humor, sarcasm, or goofiness in favor of utmost seriousness and severity. Seemingly anticipating the dark events surrounding President Kennedy's assassination and the turmoil that followed, Dylan eliminates with conjecture and disguise. Akin to dispatches from the typewriter of literary icons John Steinbeck and William Faulkner, his songs give voices to the voiceless, challenge cultural precepts, upend traditional beliefs with rapier wit and truths, and underline tragedies swept under the rug.
In doing so, Dylan creates stinging protest music that rallies against unchecked authority, discrimination, brutality, and division. A testament to the power of great art, The Times They Are A Changin' is a righteous assault on ignorance and agent for sweeping action, a necessary impetus for transformation and enlightenment. Via bold originals such as the nonfiction "The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll," assertive "Restless Farewell," and semi-autobiographical "North Country Blues," Dylan casts hardships, greed, and victimization in such relatable terms it's impossible to turn away and ignore their implications.
As correctly relayed by Dylan expert and cultural critic Greil Marcus, "[The record] forever fixed Bob Dylan in the popular imagination: the protest singer, the young man 'able to see through metal' (again, from Chronicles), to see through the lie and find the truth, then to hammer the truth into words and send them out with a voice that would never break."

All Ears, All Eyes, All The Time
180 Gram, Coke-Bottle Colored Vinyl
First Time On Vinyl, Limited To 500
Stones, Hendrix, and Tom Petty to legendary indie-rockers like Weezer, the Pixies, Dinosaur Jr.. Pavement, Superchunk, and Spoon to even left-of-center rap acts like A Tribe Called Quest, it's a record that ventures far beyond the clich'd constraints of the emo pigeonhole in which Piebald are so often mistakenly placed (note the jaunty piano romp Part Of Your Body Is Made Out Of Rock, the dream-rock sea-shanty All Senses Lost, or the twee, Shins-like powerpop of Giving Cup). Says Travis of Piebald's all-encompassing musical styles, We don't really feel we're an emo band; we're really more just like hippies that use distortion! Most of the time we're put in a category with emo bands, but we don't really hear the real connection. So we don't like that we're called that ' but then again, we don't really like that any band is called that.
Although All Ears was produced by Paul Q. Kolderie (Cave-In, Dinosaur Jr., fireHOSE, Hole, Pixies, Radiohead), Piebald were admittedly still worried about whether they could top their previous landmark effort, We Are The Only Friends We Have. You always want to like your new record more and feel that it's better than your last one, otherwise you wouldn't want to put it out, says Travis. But Paul was really excited about the new songs, and all the people at the studio were excited, and it felt like we were on the right track, even though we didn't know for sure. And in the end, I think we at least did comparably musically. You still get what you need from a Piebald record. It's different, but you still get sufficiently rocked.1. The Benefits Of Ice Cream

By The Time I Get To PhoenixGlen Campbell's commercial breakthrough came by way of the title track, which was the direct precursor in production terms to Wichita Lineman, and by the same writer. The cover of Paul Simon's Homeward Bound is sincere if a little perfunctory, but Campbell's rendition of Ernest Tubb's Tomorrow Never Comes is a bravura performance, rich and soulful, as well as recalling Rodgers & Hammerstein's You'll Never Walk Alone as done by Gerry & the Pacemakers. Cold December in Your Heart harks back to Campbell's country-folk material, a piece of midtempo country-pop. Material like that and the similar Back in the Race, Dorsey Burnette's Hey Little One, Jerry Reed's You're Young and You'll Forget, and Bill Anderson's Bad Seed hold up better than more pop-focused numbers like My Baby's Gone, though the string backings on most of these very much date them. The final number here, the touching Love Is a Lonesome River, makes a brilliant coda.

Between The Times And The TidesBetween The Times And The Tides is the first proper, song-oriented studio album from Sonic Youth guitarist Lee Ranaldo. Recorded with longstanding Sonic Youth producer John Agnello, the album is a shimmering and melodic tapestry of rock sounds.
Ranaldos trademark alternate-tuning guitar work is at the forefront here, but it is amplified by brilliant leadwork from Wilcos Nels Cline on every track. The all-star lineup also includes Sonic Youths Steve Shelley on drums, Alan Licht on guitar, and John Medeski on keyboards. There are also cameos from original Sonic Youth drummer Bob Bert and producer and instrumentalist Jim ORourke.
Between The Times and The Tides is equal parts smart, confident and loose in a manner that recalls some of Matador's favorite rock n' roll projects yet sounds like a fantastic new band that was apparently being assembled right under our noses. Alone For The First TimeUpcoming studio album from producer and remix artist Ryan Hemsworth.
Alone For The First Time comes at a busy time for the Canadian beatmaker. Not only is it landing just a year after his debut album, Guilt Trips, but also amidst a hectic world touring schedule and the release of a new compilation from the free-to-download digital label Secret Songs that he launched this past spring.
You might already know Alone For The First Time's first single, Snow In Newark, which had hints of emo-inflected indie rock. Apparently that's the theme on the new LP, with Hemsworth claiming that he's fighting with expectations and conventional formulas in a press release, adding 'Snow In Newark' and the rest of this album are [his] personal reactions to the current state of electronic and rock music.
In addition to vocals from Dawn Golden on that first single, the record also features appearances from New Zealand's Lontalius, trance-baiting entity Doss, Little Cloud and others. Like Guilt Trips, it'll see release on Canadian label Last Gang Records.1. Hurt Me

When Was The Last TimeOn the heels of his eighth No. 1 Country single Darius Rucker has responded to fans' appeals for new music with an announcement letting them know they won't be waiting much longer for a new album from the 3-time GRAMMY winning star. When Was The Last Time, the long-awaited fifth studio country album on Capitol Records Nashville, has been set for release.
Earlier this week, Rucker spoke with Billboard about teaming up with esteemed Nashville producer Ross Copperman (Dierks Bentley, Brett Eldredge, Keith Urban) to bring his vision for the album to life.
"On top of being a genius with the equipment, Ross is so high-energy and funny; that kid is never not laughing." He added, "Every time we were in the studio we had a great band who had great ideas of their own, so it was the farthest thing from tedious, but just, let's get in and do it. I think for the whole record we spent just three days tracking music."

12 Story To Tell$19.99Vinyl LP - Sealed Buy Now
The Right Time (Pure Pleasure)I first heard Etta James as a young teenager when she had a hit with Tell Mama, a tune that has easily stood the test of time. She recorded this album a quarter-century later and sounded even better.
For The Right Time she returns to the Muscle Shoals studio where she recorded Tell Mama, this time with producer Jerry Wexler, and it's an outstanding match. She hits nary a forced or false note and is backed with a stellar band that includes saxophonist Hank Crawford, guitarist Steve Cropper and bassist Willie Weeks. They plow ahead like a great offensive line blocking for an all-star running back -- one who isn't afraid to lower the shoulder and knock somebody over.
There's plenty of manufactured emotion on records, but you won't find any of it here. Etta just rocks naturally. It's like sitting next to a seasoned story teller in full command of the narrative. Nothing for you to do but sit back, close your eyes and listen.
A sign of great singers for me is how they put a stamp on songs that have been done many times. In that regard, Etta makes Love and Happiness and Ninety And A Half Won't Do her own. She tears up The Night Time Is the Right Time with the help of Crawford's sax. Of course she has the blues well covered, my personal favorite being Down Home Blues, and flashes her humorous side with the trash-talking Wet Match. She hits any note she wants without straining and with total conviction.
But all the songs are top-notch. The best advice for anyone reading this is to just pick up the album and discover the old-school glory of Etta James. - Tyler Smith

About Pure Pleasure
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.1. I Sing The Blues

WARB-PAR-1381xLouis Armstrong & Duke Ellington
Together For The First TimeLouis Armstrong and Duke Ellington were (and are) two of the main stems of jazz. Any way you look at it, just about everything that's ever happened in this music leads directly -- or indirectly -- back to them. Both men were born on the cusp of the 19th and 20th centuries, and each became established as a leader during the middle '20s. Although their paths had crossed from time to time over the years, nobody in the entertainment industry had ever managed to get Armstrong and Ellington into a recording studio to make an album together.
On April 3, 1961, producer Bob Thiele achieved what should be regarded as one of his greatest accomplishments; he organized and supervised a seven-and-a-half-hour session at RCA Victor's Studio One on East 24th Street in Manhattan, using a sextet combining Duke Ellington with Louis Armstrong & His All-Stars. This group included ex-Ellington clarinetist Barney Bigard, ex-Jimmie Lunceford swing-to-bop trombonist Trummy Young, bassist Mort Herbert, and drummer Danny Barcelona. A second session took place during the afternoon of the following day. The music resulting from Thiele's inspired experiment is outstanding and utterly essential. That means everybody ought to hear this album at least once, and many will want to hear it again and again all the way through, for this is one of the most intriguing confluences in all of recorded jazz. - All Music Guide1. The Order Of TimeValerie June's highly anticipated second album, The Order of Time, is set for release via Concord Records. On this enthralling and illuminating leap forward, the Tennessee-bred, Brooklyn-based songwriter weaves electric blues, African rhythms, cosmic atmospherics and delicate soul into an inventive and wholly original rumination on love, family, struggle and the passing of time. Produced by Matt Marinelli (Bad Brains), The Order of Time features twelve original songs all written by June.
Musically, June has refined and expanded her sound on the new album finding space from her previous work in its artful, self-assured restraint and overall cohesion. The collection's finely sketched character studies brim with richness and detail while June's ethereal, wide-open soundscapes provide a sterling backdrop for her remarkable Southern gospel and honey voice. Lyrical touch points such as 'dancing shadows,' 'hot suppers,' 'curious neighbors,' and 'holy water' draw the listener in and root these songs with density and weight.
The "inevitability of change" and "time as the ruler of Earth's rhythm," is the album's foundation, explains June. "And the knowledge that with resilience and faith things can work out."
"Long Lonely Road" is a reflective and somber lament as June's voice reverberates over ringing guitar and unhurried drums, whereas the entrancing blues of "If And" internalizes regret in the face of time's relentless churn. On the spiritual "Astral Plane," June's mystical vocal takes an otherworldly turn, whereas the sumptuous string arrangement on "With You," is reminiscent of Nico's most affecting work. Norah Jones adds her distinctive vocals to three tracks and "Shake Down" sparkles with background vocal contributions from her father, Emerson Hockett and brothers, Patrick and Jason Hockett.
The Order of Time follows June's 2013 breakout LP, Pushin' Against a Stone that established her as one of America's "most intriguing, fully formed new talents" according to the New York Times. She garnered praise from NPR, "a singular performer" and New York Magazine, "a powerful singer and a blunt, bruising songwriter." June also made memorable appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman, CBS Saturday Morning, Rachael Ray, and Austin City Limits. She has toured with Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings and Sturgill Simpson, and performed at Newport Folk Festival, Carnegie Hall, and much more.1. Long Lonely Road
