30 Seconds To Mars30 Seconds to Mars is the debut studio album by American rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars. It was originally released on August 27, 2002, by Immortal Records and distributed by Virgin Records. It had been in the works for a couple of years, with lead vocalist Jared Leto writing the majority of the songs.
30 Seconds to Mars was described as a concept album centering on human struggle and self-determination, characterized by personal lyrics that use otherworldly elements and conceptual ideas to illustrate a truthful personal situation. Driven by core members Gary Rossington (guitar), Johnny Van Zant (vocals) and Rickey Medlocke (guitar), along with longtime drummer Michael Cartellone, Lynyrd Skynyrd's legacy goes back some 35 years ago to Jacksonville, Fla., and was halted for a decade by the 1977 plane crash that killed three band members, including Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines. Since then, the band tragically lost Allen Collins, Leon Wilkeson and Huey Thomasson, yet they rock on. With the recent passing of founding member/keyboardist Billy Powell and longtime bassist Ean Evans, a lot of people probably expected us to say enough is enough, admits Medlocke. But that would not be the way of this Rock & Roll Hall of Fame powerhouse. With a catalog of over 60 albums and sales beyond 30 million, Lynyrd Skynyrd remains a cultural icon that appeals to all generations.
This Lynyrd Skynyrd 1974 album follows the success of Free Bird and Gimme Three Steps from their 1973 debut and features their biggest hit single, Sweet Home Alabama, an answer to Neil Young's Southern Man and Alabama. The song reached No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in August 1974. Second Helping also featured Don't Ask Me No Questions, Workin' for MCA and Call Me The Breeze, the latter of which includes an acclaimed piano solo. Backed by a tight rhythm section and the mighty three-guitar attack of Allen Collins, Ed King and Gary Rossington, singer Ronnie Van Zant turns in a legendary performance on the urgent blues ballad I Need You, the cautionary The Needle And The Spoon and The Ballad Of Curtis Loew.

MoFi may have the rest of their catalogue, but Chad Kassem's coup is grabbing this album, the band's second, from 1974. Why? Because it kicks off with their anthem, the inimitable, riff-driven, majestic 'Sweet Home Alabama' - one of the greatest air-guitar/road trip songs ever. By this time, the band was a mite slicker but just as unapologetically Confederate-with-a-capital 'C' as on their debut. The opener does overshadow the rest, but the album serves up what the LP title promises in 'The Needle And The Spoon,' which sounds like 'Sweet Home Alabama II.' Musically, this nestles alongside Little Feat and The Allman Brothers Band - deservedly high praise. - Ken Kessler, Hi-Fi News, April 2014

Love Lust Faith + DreamsLove, Lust, Faith and Dreams is the upcoming fourth studio album from American rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars.
The recording sessions for Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams took place from April to December 2012, at the Laboratory in Los Angeles, U.S.A.
In September 2012, The Summit, an event where fans are invited to contribute chorus vocals to tracks on the album and previously held to record choral vocals for This Is War in 2009, was held. Unlike This Is War, where an entire audience-sized crowd took part in the recording, the summit that took place for the recording of Love, Lust Faith and Dreams was more stripped-down and organic, with only 20 to 25 people contributing vocals to the record.
To follow up This Is War, the band began to work on their fourth studio album immediately after the conclusion of the Closer to the Edge Tour. Frontman Jared Leto wanted an album that has ebb and flow and content and structure., a sharp contrast to the band's previous work. Leto began writing for the album in December 2011, and by the time the band started the recording sessions for Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams in April 2012, he had amassed a total of 50 songs.1. Birth

Dallas Buyers Club follows the Oscar winning performance by Matthew McConaughey portraying the '80s real life character Ron Woodroof, who's suddenly being diagnosed as H.I.V.- positive and given 30 days to live. Yet he will not, and does not, accept a death sentence. A crash course of research reveals
a lack of approved treatments and medications in the U.S., so Ron crosses the border into Mexico. There, he learns about alternative treatments and begins smuggling them into the U.S.
An outsider to the gay community, Ron finds an unlikely ally
in fellow AIDS patient and transsexual Rayon (another Oscar Winning performance by Jared Leto). They establish a "buyers club," where H.I.V.-positive people pay monthly dues for access to the newly acquired supplies. With a growing community
of friends and clients, Ron fights for dignity, education, and acceptance. In the years following his diagnosis, the embattled Lone Star loner lives life to the fullest like never before.

ZeroHawthorne Heights presents their upcoming ambitious concept album, Zero, produced by Brian Virtue, who has also worked with Thirty Seconds To Mars.
Just to give everyone a bit of insight on the concept behind the record - Zero, at its core, is a story of good and evil, explains drummer Eron Bucciarelli. The setting is a dystopian future where a totalitarian corporation has risen to power in the wake of a disaster, The Fires. Zero is an account of the events from the perspective of the main character in the story, Baker. The album's tracklisting is based upon those events.
The story takes place in 2017 - or so they would like you to believe. In reality, the year is 2015. The people know little, they're angry, and they know something isn't right; that they've been lied to! Life used to be so nice, they used to be kids - driving around with friends, listening to music - no cares in the world. And as bad as things would sometimes get back then, they are nothing in comparison to what the people are experiencing now. This is only the tip of the iceberg. InventionsInventions is the new band formed by longtime friends,
tourmates, and labelmates Matthew Cooper of Eluvium, and
Mark T. Smith of Explosions In The Sky. There are plenty of
talking points here: The fact that Cooper hasn't been in a
"band" of any sort since he was a teenager; no member of
Explosions In The Sky has released an album outside of the
context of EITS since their inception in the late 90s; and, of
course, this is a dream duo for anyone familiar with the
unparalleled emotional resonance of Cooper and Smith's
respective day jobs. However, thirty seconds into their
eponymous debut album, you realize that the esteemed
pedigree is irrelevant. Inventions exceeds all expectations by
discarding them from the get-go. They have created their own
tiny, wondrous corner of the world, one with ever-changing
sounds and colors.
Inventions began in earnest last year when Cooper invited
Smith to collaborate on a song for Eluvium's otherworldly
double-album, Nightmare Ending. The track, "Envenom Mettle",
was a standout on an album full of them, and just like that a
longstanding friendship blossomed into a full-fledged creative
partnership. The following six months the duo continued to
send audio files back and forth to each other from their
respective homes in Portland, Oregon and Austin, Texas. The
collaboration proved fruitful, inspiring, and truly enjoyable from
the outset, and in less than a year they had amassed more than
an album's worth of material. They traveled together to a
secluded beach house on the Oregon coast to complete the
album, an environment that proved not only highly productive
but also clearly influential on the album's windswept beauty and
warm vibrations. Across eight songs the duo explore the
delicate and disturbing - and virtually everything in-between -
with majestic abandon. It's the kind of beauty and brilliance that
only masters of their craft can accomplish when all egos and
expectations are cast aside in pursuit of the splendor of sound.1. Echo Tropism

Body Talk (Speakers Corner)
Just listen to the first thirty seconds of this LP and you know that it's all about the 'Godfather of Soul' - the unique James Brown.
But it's just as obvious that such a great artist as George Benson doesn't just present "Greatest Hits" in a new guise. Six of his own compositions plus one by Donny Hathaway/Gene McDaniels provide the guitarist and singer with a great platform to launch from. He shoots off into orbit, accompanied by first-class guest soloists such as Jon Faddis, Frank Foster, Earl Klugh and Jack DeJohnnette. Ron Carter's bass doesn't boom in the low register but offers a light and airy, yet solid, base.
Body Talk is by no means the declaration of a world-shaking, new and avant-garde jazz. It is, however, a successful blend of jazz, soul and fusion. And when such a superb arranger as Pee Wee Ellis has his finger in the pie - or rather: his pen on the manuscript paper - then one can be sure that the almost 50-minute-long LP is a great success from beginning to end. Finally, one shouldn't forget the helping hand of the producer Creed Taylor, who made a significant contribution to this milestone on the CTI label.
- George Benson (guitar, vocal)
- Frank Foster (tenor saxophone)
- Gerald Chamberlain, Dick Griffin (trombone)
- Jon Faddis, John Gatchell, Waymon Reed (fluegel horn, trumpet)
- Harold Mabern (electric piano)
- Earl Klugh (guitar)

About Speakers Corner
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.1. Dance

We're Not Going AnywhereAustin-based songwriter David Ramirez will release We're Not Going Anywhere, the follow up to his 2015 breakthrough record Fables and second in partnership with Thirty Tigers.
Most times, when a relationship ends, there is a season of mourning but then the clouds part, the sun rises, and we move on. What happens if and when the sun doesn't rise? What happens if, no matter how hard we try, we can't move on? Ramirez explained about the song.
On the 10 vividly imagined and passionately performed songs on We're Not Going Anywhere David Ramirez takes in the world from his unique perspective: Being half white and half Mexican has made this current political climate especially interesting. So many cultures in this country are being viewed as un-American and it breaks my heart. My family have raised children here, created successful businesses here, and are proud to be a part of this country. Most of what I've seen as of late is misplaced fear. I wanted to write about that fear and how, instead of benefiting us, it sends us spiraling out control.
For We're Not Going Anywhere, Ramirez partnered with producer Sam Kassirer, who has helmed albums by Josh Ritter, Lake Street Dive, Bhi Bhiman, and many other artists. In January 2017 Ramirez and his band decamped to the Great North Sound Society, an eighteenth-century farmhouse in rural Maine that serves as Kassirer's studio.
It's very secluded, which was part of the appeal. We were able to get out of our touring headspace and stay completely involved with the record and what we were doing, explains Ramirez.
We're Not Going Anywhere turns that distance into a big-picture perspective- engaged and informed, compassionately political but not necessarily partisan. We'd take breaks during the day and watch the news and see all the rallies and marches and the disruption and the out-of-control feeling that was everywhere then-and, frankly, still is now. We were looking around and no one was around us. The closest house was a mile away, so it was just us. We were grateful just to retreat from that social tornado for a while and create something that we hoped would be very beautiful.1. Twins

"Longing, loving, leaving: Those are the boundaries of the impeccable
pop universe that London Grammar has built for itself."
- The New York Times
"A stylish debut that demonstrates both their immense
talent and impressive instincts."
THE NEXT BIG THING. Such a label serves at once as a curse and a blessing, for messianic crowns come studded with thorns, and chalices emblazoned with this inscription are often tainted with poison. Custodians of the title can implode under the weight of expectation, or fail to bottle further the magic of that first hit single.
Not so for English art-rock trio London Grammar. Hannah Reid, Dot Major and Dan Rothman have been careful to avoid the dangers of over-exposure in the nine months since first single "Hey Now" seared itself into the collective consciousness of the blogosphere, instead releasing work after work of gradually escalating beauty from the safety of the shadows.
That was until Disclosure dropped their album Settle, at which point London Grammar vocalist Hannah Reid came to wider attention on sweeping album closer "Help Me Lose My Mind," where her spine-tingling soulful singing combined with the wash of swooning synths and downbeat 80's percussion. It will come as no surprise to fans of this track to learn that Reid's magnificent vocals are integral to London Grammar's sound, serving as the perfect accompaniment to the band's discreet production and minimalist instrumentation.
The same words will be used ceaselessly to describe Reid's vocals in coming weeks - "haunting", "brooding", "ethereal". Yet none of these terms adequately conveys the way her voice melts and evolves to suit the temperament and melody of each song on If You Wait, flowing like molten gold on "Interlude", or acquiring the varied textures of a vast swathe of satin and silk on "Nightcall". Her vocal is always underscored by an enduring brittle beauty and an underlying otherworldliness, as if she honed her craft singing amidst the forests of Lothlórien, or some far-flung corner of Westeros.
Though her voice may be otherworldly, the thematic concerns of the album are very much rooted in this world - youth's timeless preoccupation with finding not only love but the nature of ourselves. These soundscapes and the lyrics that populate them are characterised by broken hearts, fractured dreams and people falling in and out of love. Perhaps the most telling lyric of all is on "Wasting My Young Years", with the heart-breaking concession of "I've heard it takes some time to get it right".
The album's first single and opening track "Hey Now" has lost none of its grandeur and remains as devastatingly beautiful as it did when released at the tail-end of 2012. It's the main track on If You Wait that justifies the comparisons with The XX - especially in terms of how the band forges the space and atmosphere from reverb-tinged percussion and Rothman's discreet, almost-spectral guitars. "Wasting My Young Years" further showcases how perfectly the band balance the interplay between Reid's vocal and the twinkling keys and subtle instrumentation that floats around it, allowing it to drive the song and dictate proceedings but never once to feel overbearing.
Latest single "Strong" mirrors the intricately weaved threadwork of sounds and elaborately crafted sense of space showcased on the opening track, but utilises a more hypnotic vocal from Reid that manages to sound simultaneously heart-rending and inspiring. Elsewhere "Interlude" is as refined a paean to love and devotion as you will hear all year, matching dual melancholic piano lines and subtly building percussion to Reid's sublime wistful singing.
There is not a single weak track, but amongst the many highlights is a spellbinding cover of French house artist Kavinsky's "Nightcall". There's a particularly gorgeous moment around the two-minute-thirty-second mark when the instrumentation is peeled away and, for a few seconds, you think the song will end - before Reid's dazzling vocal is re-introduced amidst a haze of swirling keys. It's nothing short of transcendent. Also, the flawless sequencing leads to an album that begs you to drink in its beauty by listening to it from beginning to end.
This is an enthralling, stunning, deeply emotive album that perfectly marries understated electronica to sublime vocals and melodies. In a year dominated by titanic LPs, London Grammar have not only made the most perfectly formed debut album of the year - they've made one of the best LPs, period. [A-]

Hyphenated-ManHyphenated-man is the name of my third opera, Contemplating The Engine Room (1997) being the first one and The Secondman's Middle Stand (2004) being the second. Whereas Engine Room dealt with my pop's life in the navy as a metaphor for the story of the minutemen and Middle Stand was a parallel to Dante's comedia dealing with an illness that almost killed me in 2000, this third opera is quite different in that it has no standard narrative (libretto!) meaning no regular beginning-middle-end and is as it were simultaneous in the way a mirror from just inside my head, right in this middle-age moment of mine, was then shattered into thirty pieces and then each piece stuffed in the head to show a piece of my state of mind (or out-of-mind) as of now. Thirty tunes? Yes, they're little ones, actually they're thirty parts of one big tune.
It was kind of trippy how this piece was actually made. I wrote all thirty parts on one of D. Boon's telecasters, the black one he got in Kent, Ohio in 1984. Now I'm not a very good guitarist but Tom Watson was quite the righteous man in his patience and determination to take the palsy demos I gave him and bring them to the piece. - Mike Watt1. Signed And Sealed In BloodDropkick Murphys come out swinging on their eighth full-length album, Signed and Sealed in Blood. This time around, everything has been cranked up past 10. The guitars are ballsier, the gang vocals are louder, the hooks are catchier, the lyrics stop you in your tracks. The brashest moments of Signed and Sealed in Blood feel like the last 30 seconds of a Stanley Cup hockey game: frenetic, on the edge, dangerous. The softest songs are testaments to the values that pump through the Dropkicks' veins: family, neighborhoods, honor, respect, roots and remembering those who are gone. Every second of Signed and Sealed in Blood is evidence of one thing: Dropkick Murphys aren't just loud and brash, they're at the top of their game as songwriters.1. The Boys Are Back

The Golden Age Of BullshitPARTYBABY is the LA based 4 piece fronted by Jamie Reed and Noah Gersh, who, despite being only in their mid-20s, are both veterans of the modern rock scene (Gersh with Portugal. The Man and Reed with 30 Seconds to Mars). Their music can perhaps best be described as loud, hook-heavy rock in the spirit of Nirvana, Cheap Trick, Weezer, "Ziggy"-era Bowie, The Stooges, Smashing Pumpkins and The Cars. Their self-produced debut album, "The Golden Age of Bullshit," is mixed by Andy Wallace (Nirvana, The Cult, Run-DMC, Jeff Buckley).1. Overload (Intro)

Spy Rock Road (And Other Stories)Thirty years ago, long before there was such a thing as Gilman Street, Green Day, or the East Bay pop punk explosion, three guys got together in an off-the-grid hippie wilderness known as Spy Rock, at the heart of Northern California's legendary Emerald Triangle. They hooked their amps up to their solar panels, made up a couple songs about living on the backside of nowhere, and The Lookouts were born. It would be the first time 12-year-old Tre Cool ever laid hands on a drumstick or a set of drums, but over the following five and a half years he honed the skills that he would put to use in his second band, Green Day, headlining amphitheaters and stadiums, winning Grammy Awards, and being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with his second band. Guitarist and singer Larry Livermore would go on to co-found Lookout Records, the indie label that introduced Green Day, and many other bands, to the world. Together with bassist (and future forest ranger) Kain Kong, and with guest appearances by Operation Ivy and Rancid's Tim Armstrong and Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, The Lookouts produced two albums, two EPs, and several compilation tracks, the best of which are featured on this double LP. Also included is a track from The Lookouts' very first demo tape, recorded in 1985, which features Tre singing backups in his as yet unbroken three-and-a-half-octave soprano.1. Story
