ADAD-EPI-4818xThis Wild Life
CloudedEpitaph is pleased to welcome This Wild Life to the roster. This Wild Life will release their debut album Clouded in 2014.
Hailing from Long Beach, CA, This Wild Life is duo Kevin Jordan and Anthony Del Grosso. Jordan and Del Gross grew up in the tightknit DIY punk scene in Long Beach. They quickly became friends after working at the same musical instrument store, bonding over music of their teens. The conversations were about hardcore, punk and scream bands such as Thursday, The Used, and Senses Fail. Soon enough, they started their own pop-punk band and made music together as This Wild Life. They played fast, they played loud and they didn't stand out from the crowd until they did the least "punk" thing possible. It was also bolder than anything in the punk rock rulebook: they got quiet and played acoustically.
The music itself connected with fans, even as it surprised them. They take pride in making music based in hardcore and punk rock, but with wider appeal. In contrast to the harsh music that This Wild Life grew up on, Jordan finds inspiration for his vocals outside the hardcore punk world. "Sara Bareilles is one of my favorites. Maybe people wouldn't expect that. Or maybe they would," he laughs.
A big part of who they are as a band is to remain true to their DIY punk ethic. After shows are played, tweets responded to and comments acknowledged online. The band put in the work to gain the support of their fan base. Now, This Wild Life has an army of 80K YouTube subscribers with videos of over 2.75 million views.
Clouded is their debut full-length and was recorded with Aaron Marsh of Copeland. Clouded maintains the core attributes of their sound - Jordan's vulnerable, expressive lyrics, DelGrosso's nimble fingerpicking - while pushing themselves towards more ambitious sounds. "We tried out a string section, pianos, different kinds of guitars, we didn't want to limit ourselves," Jordan notes.
Clouded is the triumphant result of years marked by small triumphs, big struggles and countless floor shows, bringing This Wild Life's heartfelt, melodic and acoustic punk-rock to a bigger audience they've earned.1. Concrete

XXX: 30 Years of Girls, Girls, Girls (Awaiting Repress)Limited Edition 30th Anniversary Blue Marble Vinyl
Girls, Girls, Girls is the fourth studio album by the American heavy metal band Mötley CrÜe, originally released on May 15, 1987.
The album contains a more blused riffed style than their previous albums. The record contains the hits Wild Side and Girls, Girls, Girls. The record also reflects the band's hard-living lifestyle, and pays homage to their love of riding Harley Motorcycles, drinking whiskey, drug use, life on the Sunset Strip, and spending nights at strip clubs. However, there are darker sides to the album as well, notably Dancing on Glass and Wild Side. The power ballad You're All I Need tells the story of the death of a lover, and the song Nona is a tribute to Nikki Sixx' grandmother, who died during the recording of the album. Into The Wild LifeA special message from LZZY HALE (OFFICIAL) about INTO THE WILD LIFE:
This album is not a departure, it is an invitation to all things Halestorm. We didn't stray from who we are, there's just a lot more of who we are. If you dare, start with the outer most layer of the onion, our first single Apocalyptic which is the medium between where we left off on The Strange Case Of.. and where Into The Wild Life begins.
Lyrically and musically, we explored everything that makes us tick. We set a standard for this record, and gave ourselves no choice other than to be unapologetically Halestorm in every way. In a time where everyone is freaked out about the state of music, rock n' roll, hit singles, sales....we decided to ignore all of that and make a true album.
My insider's advice: Close your eyes and listen to the album from start to finish. There are some surprises that await you inside that are well worth the journey. Enjoy!
Formed by frontwoman Lzzy Hale and her brother, drummer Arejay Hale, Halestorm has been hailed far and wide as an incendiary new force in modern hard rock. HALESTORM made a top 5 debut on SoundScan's Hard Music chart upon its 2009 release, simultaneously bursting into the top 40 on the comprehensive Billboard 200. The album subsequently sold more than 300,000 copies, and half a million cumulative tracks. Produced by Howard Benson (Daughtry, My Chemical Romance, Flyleaf), the album earned extensive acclaim for its infectious hard rock anthems, sexy hooks, and rough-and-tumble grooves.1. Scream

Near To The Wild Heart Of LifeJAPANDROIDS is a two-piece band from Vancouver, BC., which began in 2006 and consists of Brian King and David Prowse. JAPANDROIDS are one guitar, one set of drums, and two vocalizers. JAPANDROIDS are maximal in their delivery; a two- piece band sounding like a five-piece band.
With the release of their second album, Celebration Rock in 2012 the band embarked on what seemed like an endless world tour, performing over 200 shows in over 40 countries, and played their final show in support of Celebration Rock in Buenos Aires, Argentina in November 2013. They would not perform live again for three years.
Their third album, Near To The Wild Heart Of Life, was written clandestinely throughout 2014 and 2015 in Vancouver, Toronto, New Orleans, and Mexico City. It was (mostly) recorded at Rain City Recorders in Vancouver, BC (Fall of 2015), with one song, "True Love And A Free Life Of Free Will," recorded at Golden Ratio in Montreal, QC (February, 2015). The title, Near To The Wild Heart Of Life, comes from a passage in the novel A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man by James Joyce: "He was alone. He was unheeded, happy, and near to the wild heart of life."
Like their prior albums Post-Nothing and Celebration Rock, the album is 8 songs. This is because 8 songs is the standard template for a great rock n roll album. Like Post-Nothing and Celebration Rock, the album was sequenced specifically for the LP. On Near To The Wild Heart Of Life, side A (songs 1-4) and side B (songs 5-7) each follow their own loose narrative. Taken together as one, they form an even looser narrative, with the final song on side B (song 8) acting as an epilogue.
If Celebration Rock was the culmination of something, then Near To The Wild Heart Of Life can be considered the beginning of something else.1. Near To The Wild Heart Of Life

"...full of charisma and personality "
"...as tight and catchy as a baseball mitt."
"People wonder why there's always a massive gap between my albums," says Pip Brown, better known as Ladyhawke, the one-woman synth-pop act from New Zealand. The reason is both complicated and easy. The simple explanation: "I've never released anything I'm not proud of. That's important to me."
Those instincts have served Brown well, starting with her self-titled debut in 2008, which peaked at No. 16 on the U.K. album charts and No. 1 in Australia and New Zealand's album charts. Ladyhawke's more aurally angular follow-up, Anxiety, charted in the U.K.'s Top 40 and in Australia's and New Zealand's Top 20, respectively.
Brown's conviction to authenticity led her on a journey starting in 2013. Over three years, she scrapped a full Ladyhawke album ("The material didn't feel like me. It felt too dark or something"). Once reliant on alcohol to surmount social anxiety ("I'd never done a sober show in my life until last December"), she quit drinking and focused on getting healthy. Then she welcomed that newfound clarity by crafting her latest release, the blissed-out Wild Things.
"This album has given me a sense of purpose. Even if it took me months or years to get that purpose, as soon as I finished that record it was like an unbelievable weight was lifted off my shoulders," she says. You can hear that freedom in Wild Things' unabashed exuberance, a powerful, vibrant expression of life itself. "Everything I wrote was all the stuff I was going through. I got it out of my system, exorcised it from my soul."1. A Love Song

Wild WorldAt first glance the striking artwork for Bastille's hugely anticipated second album, 'Wild World', may prompt a number of questions. Who are the two individuals balanced precariously above a cityscape? Why are they there? What will happen next? But Dan Smith's own interpretation of the image is one that runs through many of the songs on Wild World, "To me, the image isn't about what's just happened or what happens next," he begins. "It's not about how they got there or how they get down. It's about sharing a moment - two friends existing in that split second in that exact space, two people framed in the vast context of this huge mad metropolis that we've all built. They're there out of choice."
The London four-piece release their hugely anticipated second album, 'Wild World' in 2016. The album follows the band's global four million selling, multi-platinum debut, Bad Blood.
The announcement follows a fever pitch build spearheaded by infectious new single 'Good Grief', which received an incredible reaction across media and charted as last week's highest new entry as well as achieving the most week-one streams ever for an alternative single. The surreal video for the track clocked up over half a million views in just 48 hours and the band's recent triumphant Glastonbury set drew one of the largest crowds of the weekend and was hailed by the NME as "A masterclass in how to win Glastonbury."
Wild World retains the vivid, rich, filmic song-writing of its predecessor but pushes the band's distinctive sound in exciting new directions. Lyrically, too, it's a leap forward, "If our first album was about growing up and the anxieties surrounding it" Dan explains, "Our second is about trying to make sense of the world around you, both as you see it and as it's presented to you through the media. It's also about asking questions of the world and of the people in it. We wanted the album to be a bit disorientating - at times extroverted and introverted, light and dark."
Written by Dan Smith and co-produced with Bastille fifth member Mark Crew, Wild World was recorded in the same tiny, South London windowless basement studio where the band recorded its predecessor. It's a collection of fourteen songs (nineteen on the deluxe edition) that sees Bastille at their boldest and most daring. Anthemic yet thought-provoking tracks include the fiery, string-laden, 'The Currents', a poignant and timely song that was written about, "Specific public figures on both sides of the Atlantic, and how it can be hard to believe they can think certain thoughts, let alone say them out loud or get on a podium and broadcast them." As well as the bombastic 'Send Them Off!' which boasts the attitude of a classic hip hop song set against the lyrical narrative and insecurities that are part of Bastille's own DNA, whilst referencing both The Exorcist and Othello. The track exemplifies Dan's belief in shuffle culture and the end of rigid genre boundaries. There's also the pensive, stripped back Depeche Mode-esque sound bed for the band's beautiful album trailer, 'Two Evils' which was recorded in one take; As well as the irresistible and rousing 'Snakes' and the guitar heavy 'Blame', which Dan describes as, "Our first foray into big guitar riffs, in a fictional standoff between two gangsters."
But at the heart of it all, there's a sense of escapism that runs through Wild World and a fascination with the human condition and the relationships we all forge, fight over and sometimes forget. "The world can seem a fucked up place," Dan concludes. "But people - well, people can be amazing. The relationships you choose to have in your life are the main solace. They're the things that make life awesome."1. Good Grief

Loved Wild LostNicki Bluhm and The Gramblers' much-anticipated sophomore album is titled Loved Wild Lost. The band teamed with producer Brian Deck (Iron & Wine, Modest Mouse, Josh Ritter) on Loved Wild Lost and it's their first time working with an outside collaborator. The result is their most compelling collection of songs to date. The richly layered sound forms the ideal foundation for Bluhm's soaring vocals and increasingly powerful songcraft. Further color comes from San Francisco's Magik*Magik Orchestra (Death Cab for Cutie, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Walkmen), whose complex arrangements serve to amplify the indelibly universal themes of Loved Wild Lost.
"Loved Wild Lost is a sincere and sophisticated collection of songs steeped in tradition, but of its own time," says Nicki Bluhm. "After three solid years of playing as a band across the country, we have had time to learn, reflect and grow. This album displays a departure into the deeper and more contemplative themes of people in transition and the struggle to retain the energy and optimism of youth as life becomes more complex."
"The longer something moves away from its inception point, the more it takes on a life and a narrative of its own," adds Nicki's husband and the band's musical director, Tim Bluhm. "In these songs, I think you can clearly hear that happening; idealism and optimism losing control to the forces of inertia and a life of constant traveling. Happiness becomes an intention and love becomes a long-term study of oneself and of one another."1. Only Always

WildnessSnow Patrol is set to return with Wildness, their first album in seven years, which finds the band searching for clarity, connection, and meaning, while staying true to the melodic songwriting prowess that brought them to prominence. Wildness taps into something raw and primitive, and lead-singer and songwriter Gary Lightbody says of the album: "There are many types of wildness, but I think it can be distilled into two: the wildness of the modern age, all it's confusion, illogic and alienation and a more ancient wildness. Something primal, alive and beautiful that speaks to our true connectivity, our passion, our love, our communion with nature and each other. This is the kind of wildness the album is centered around. The loss of it. Trying to reconnect with it. To remember it."
Since their 1998 debut, Songs for Polarbears, Snow Patrol have racked up an impressive number of critical and commercial accolades, including 15 million global album sales, 1+ billion global track streams, 5 UK Platinum Albums, and are Grammy and Mercury Music Prize nominated. After their Fallen Empires tour ended in 2012, band members -which also include multi-instrumentalist Johnny McDaid, guitarist Nathan Connolly, bassist Paul Wilson, and drummer Jonny Quinn - decided to take a step back from the band, and focus on their own projects. Gary Lightbody continued his work with his Tired Pony side project with members of Belle and Sebastian, R.E.M, Reindeer Section and Fresh Young Fellows and moved to Los Angeles to begin writing songs for movies (including "This Is How You Walk On" for 2017's Gifted), and doing a number of high-profile co-writes with Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and One Direction. Taking this extended break from Snow Patrol proved to be a source of inspiration, and writing songs that were not pulled directly from his own psyche helped heal what Lightbody considered to be not so much writer's block as life block.
It's in this search for clarity and connection that these songs were written and refined. "I think it's the first record I've ever written that I haven't just asked a bunch of questions. I actually tried to figure out why I was unhappy, why I feel out of place, why I'm afraid," says Lightbody. "There's nothing really to protect myself for-- it's all in the album. I want to remember." This impulse was partially inspired by Lightbody's father, who is suffering from dementia. "I think the album is defined by memory in a lot of ways," says Lightbody, "including my father's loss of memory."
The songs are surefooted, displaying a newfound sense of self and purpose, and the rest of the band members rose magnificently to the occasion. The album is produced once more by the great Jacknife Lee, Snow Patrol's longtime producer and collaborator. "Life on Earth" opens the album with its mission statement, "this is something else, this is something else." "Heal Me" feels like an ancient hymn: "Finally, after way too many years of smashing my body to bits with booze, I met someone who helped me find my way back to health and clarity, says Lightbody. "This song is about her, that journey and is dedicated to her." "Empress," written for Lightbody's goddaughters, is fierce and heartfelt, with runaway drums and keen words of wisdom. "What If This Is All The Love You Ever Get?" is a heartstring-puller, posing the question nobody wants to ask. The last track, "Life and Death," is a rumination, and a human story of love and forgiveness- mostly self-forgiveness for Lightbody, demonstrating that perhaps everyone ought to take this long between albums to reflect long and hard before they write.
"Seamus Heaney, my favorite poet of all time, said at 71 that he was only discovering what some of his poetry means, and this is coming from a Nobel Prize-winning poet. It's a great testament to inspiration," says Lightbody. "Sometimes it takes you five years to write the thing. Like now. And you know for sure when you finish an album like that, where you've poured over every detail and put every atom of yourself into it, everything makes sense and I bet you I'm never not proud of this record."1. Secret LifeToronto duo Moon King have crafted a raw, rapturous and emotional new record, which documents their ascent from an intimate conceptual project into a powerful live band. A first preview of the record comes with the chugging propulsion, soaring harmonies and cosmic haze of album opener 'Roswell'.
In 2013, Moon King, made up of songwriter Daniel Benjamin and singer/guitarist Maddy Wilde, played over 100 shows to support a pair of EPs, Obsession I and II, which were released on Fucked Up's One Big Silence label in North America and Tough Love in UK/Europe. After a year spent on the road, it became evident they should capture the energy of their live show while it was fresh. Following a performance at Iceland Airwaves, Daniel & Maddy relocated to a cottage in northern Ontario to record the album with a group of Toronto music scene luminaries, all of whom had played in various incarnations of the live band.
Most of the tracks on the album were recorded live off the floor, with little except the vocals added, put to tape by live sound engineer Noah Giffin (Owen Pallett, Austra, Diana). Though only five days of recording were booked, an ice storm prevented them from leaving, resulting in an extra couple of days work. The record was then mixed in New York with Jacob Portrait of Unknown Mortal Orchestra/Blouse.
The album's production introduces further nuance to the wall-of-sound approach of the EPs, stripping back dense layers to unearth spellbinding vocals and melodies. Daniel's lyrics focus on catharsis and the weight of emotional trauma, as well as dealing with the self-doubt that stands in the way of recovery.
Frequent show-opener "Apocalypse" begins with the confession "somehow I feel no release when I'm alone with anyone else / somehow I fall to pieces when I wake up to nothing where you should be" and builds intensity and speed until overflowing in a rush of noise, an oddly structured pop song with no repeating sections. "It's impossible / you've been run through with fear / love's a landfill / just another burning spear" chants the soaring chorus of 'Impossible'. The ultimatum at the climax of "Golden Age" - "all I want is to be wanted" channels an honest and tangible fear not common in today's pop landscape.
This sense of loss and longing permeates the album throughout, each song carrying with it both a weight and a sense of urgency.1. Roswell

Life With The Buffalo (Discontinued)This debut full length album is the eagerly anticipated follow-up to Curtis Evans' December 2008 EP, More Songs About Loneliness. Lovingly categorized as Garage-icana, the sounds of Life with the Buffalo range from roaring rock n roll highs to desolate lows. Themes of the album intertwine with the themes conjured by the history of the American buffalo. A sense of estrangement from a once large and wild roaming herd and the sometimes lonely, sometimes empowering freedom that results. Motifs of the proud strength of the American west, dirty and natural, vast and brazen, emboldening and suffocating, are featured. Life with the Buffalo is a bold and promising sophomore release.1. Songs In The Key Of Life (Awaiting Repress)No. 56 On Rolling Stone's List Of 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time
2x 180 Gram Vinyl + Bonus 7-Inch EP
Two years in the making, Songs In The Key Of Life is a groundbreaking sonic masterpiece that brilliantly brings together Stevie Wonder's genius for pop music, his bold experimentation, and his lyrical humanitarian concerns. Released on the Tamla label by Motown in late September 1976, the 21-song album remains an immeasurable influential recording.
A critically acclaimed double-LP that includes a four-song bonus EP and a 24-page booklet, Songs In The Key Of Life is the first album by an American artist, and the first double-album, to debut at No. 1 on Billboard's Pop Album Chart. The album won the Grammy® for Album of the Year; Wonder also won for Producer of the Year; Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male; and Best R&B Vocal Performance, Male. The latter was awarded for "I Wish," the first single from the album, which hit No. 1 Pop and R&B. "Sir Duke," the follow-up single, was No. 1 on both charts as well, while "Another Star" and "As" were each Top 40 hits on the Pop and R&B charts; "Another Star" was also a top 3 club chart hit. Among the album's many other notable tracks, "Isn't She Lovely" was a hit without being released as a single; "Pastime Paradise" became the basis of Coolio's 1995 rap hit "Gangsta's Paradise," a No. 1 hit in many countries worldwide. A cover of "As," by George Michael and Mary J. Blige, was a top 5 hit in the U.K. in 1999. That same year, "I Wish" was prominently sampled in the No. 1 hit by Will Smith, "Wild Wild West."
Songs In The Key Of Life, with Wonder and his band Wonderlove accompanied by all-star musicians and singers, is No. 56 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of "500 Greatest Albums of All Time." Life. Love. Flesh. BloodImelda May's fifth studio record, entitled Life. Love. Flesh. Blood, is set for release via Verve Records.
It is clear that one of Ireland's biggest exports has found a new groove, here presenting the most personal and intimately autobiographical album she has ever written. The album is produced by the legendary T Bone Burnett, who said of Imelda: "When I first happened onto her music, she was a punky Irish Rockabilly singer with a great band. When I ran across her several years later, she had gone through a change of lives and was writing about it with a wild intensity and singing about it in the most open-hearted way."
The album marks a new direction for May who, in the time since her 2014 release Tribal, ended her marriage of eighteen years. Imelda May's new sound sits firmly outside of any sharply defined genre box, widely spanning blues, rock, soul, gospel and jazz. Life, Love, Flesh, Blood breathes new life into a classic sound, with Imelda's powerhouse vocal as distinctive as ever, cementing her position as one of the strongest vocalists of her generation. The singer herself describes the record as her most "honest" yet. Imelda's life changed considerably in the run-up to recording, and this is documented in the only way she knew how. Imelda explains, "It's therapy, like keeping a diary that a lot of people read. Some of my favorite songs don't say much, but they reveal everything."
Recorded over seven days in Los Angeles, the album features musical contributions from guitar hero Jeff Beck ("Black Tears"), piano legend Jools Holland ("When It's My Time") and an accomplished group of backing musicians including the core trio of guitarist Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello), drummer Jay Bellerose (Elton John & Leon Russell, Ray Lamontagne) and bassist Zach Dawes (The Last Shadow Puppets, Mini Mansions), the same band that recorded Robert Plant and Alison Krauss' Raising Sand.
First single "Black Tears" is a personal and heart-wrenching ballad, it features a distinctive slide guitar part, coupled with a unique picking and guitar tone that could be the handiwork of only one man - the legendary Jeff Beck. Jeff Beck says of Imelda, "I knew it from the start you cannot ignore talent this unique."
Imelda showcases her raw yet restrained breathtaking lead vocal, complimented by rich backing vocals and a super tight rhythm section. Written with Angelo Petragalia (Kings of Leon), the inspiration for the song's visual and poignant lyrics was inspired by a very personal moment for Imelda: "I wrote Black Tears with Angelo Petraglia after a heart-wrenchingly difficult goodbye. I closed my door and caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror with black tears rolling down my face. It's a sight and situation most women have unfortunately seen ourselves in at some point in life. Angelo had a beautiful guitar piece that fit the mood perfectly."
Imelda May, born and raised in The Liberties area of Dublin, has become one of Ireland's most celebrated female artists in history. Discovered by Jools Holland, who asked Imelda to support him on tour, Imelda has gone on to perform alongside legendary artists including Lou Reed, Bono, and Smokey Robinson.1. Call Me

DreamlandNatalie Bergman has had her picture taken on countless occasions -- hundreds of studio portraits and live shots and backstage festival snaps. But the simple, gorgeous black & white photo of Bergman on the cover of Wild Belle's Dreamland that she describes as just me and this sort of abyss That one was lensed by the person who best knows how to capture her essence on celluloid: Her older brother and bandmate, Elliot Bergman. Besides being Wild Belle's multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire, Elliot has an equally impressive flair for visual arts, from painting and sculpture to bronzemaking and photography. An avid collector of vintage cameras, Elliot brought along a recently acquired Polaroid Land Camera to a show Wild Belle played in Denver this summer: The duo grabbed a quick moment at their hotel to take the portraits of each other that grace the front and back of their new record. The pictures Elliot takes of me are always really beautiful and it's because he knows me better than anyone else on this Earth, says Natalie. Adds Elliot: I like that it's a photo of Natalie just being Natalie. And the stark contrast of her in the foreground with the dark background really fit with these collages she has been doing. Natalie is in the light but the shadows are pretty heavy and you can't really tell where she is or what's back there.
Recorded at studios in their native Chicago, Natalie's new home of Los Angeles, Nashville and Toronto, Dreamland -- Wild Belle's bold, evolutionary new album -- derives from an era in the singer's life when she was struggling to get control of what she describes as the anger and deep sorrow that plagued her at the end of her most recent romantic relationship. For a woman whose music has always been inspired by her desire to translate her complicated feelings into immediately relatable songs, there was certainly plenty of grist for the mill. Dreamland tracks such as Losing You and It Was You (Baby Come Back) offer glimpses of the darkness that Natalie battled during the early months writing for the duo's sophomore full-length. But there are also genuine moments of lightness and ecstatic triumph, like Giving Up On You -- an irresistibly kinetic, punk number Wild Belle recorded with TV On The Radio's Dave Sitek producing.
I was very heated when we were making this record. My body, my heart and my soul were filled with a flame, which sounds very dramatic but it's the truth, says Natalie. I had a healing moment when I moved to LA earlier this year, because I was far away from my ex and I felt like I was getting rid of a lot of baggage. That was the redemptive, triumphant time for my lyrics. On 'Giving Up On You,' I sing: 'Now I smile so bright, you can see me from outer space, look at me shine. Baby it's about time, I was so miserable and now I feel so alive.' All the songs I wrote near the end of making the album have that sentiment: 'Now look at where I am, after all the turmoil that was inside of me, I'm here and I'm happy and I'm ready for whatever comes my way.'
The follow-up to 2013's Isles, Dreamland expands the band's ambitions in every way. It's deeper, it's more fun, it's more haunting, it's got more grooves, Elliot says. There's sorrow and pain but there's also hope and joy -- all those things can coexist in the songs because they coexist in life. He continues: Dreamland, that's not some kind of idealized notion of where we live and I hope people hear that as a question: What is the Dreamland What is our dream here The album doesn't get overtly political, but we're dealing with a lot of the things that are dark about what's happening now. 'Throw Down Your Guns' is about a relationship but is also kind of about the messed up situation that we're in right now. The chorus, 'Throw down your guns / In the name of love, I put my hands up,' to me can be heard in a number of ways, including as a prayer for peace or a cry out against violence.
Importantly, the album also shares its name with one of the first songs Natalie remembers Elliot introducing her to: Bunny Wailer's 1970 reggae classic, Dreamland. One year for Christmas, he gave her a compilation of female artists who recorded at Jamaica's legendary Studio One, and it included Della Humphrey's version of the song. Natalie listened to it over and over and over again. I was so in love with it, she says. From there, I started my exploration of rocksteady and ska and lovers rock and anything that had to do with Jamaican music from the Fifties onward.
The duo started writing music together several years ago, after Elliot took a sixteen year-old Natalie on tour to play percussion with his acclaimed Afrobeat ensemble, NOMO. I can present a song to Elliot and he has this foresight -- he can see things further than I see them, and he helps me realize things, she says. I'd been writing very simple melodic love songs since I was fifteen years old. I definitely have a pop sensibility in my style, and that's a great platform for Elliot to work from, because it's fun for him to have a cool little pop song and combine it with more eccentric sounds and make it into a weird, unique percussive jam. Sometimes he'll bring the jam to me and because we've got this routine together, we can write a song together wherever we are.
Work on the album began in early 2014, in Chicago. The song that opens Dreamland -- Mississippi River -- was also the first one to come together in the studio. It was sparked by a moment of musical serendipity: The record starts with this pulsing ARP drone, says Elliot, which is a very expensive esoteric nerdy synthesizer that's complicated to program. Natalie and I had this weird, symbiotic thing where I was playing three chords off the ARP and she started playing different three chords on this out-of-tune autoharp she brought over. They were both completely in the wrong key, and yet perfectly in tune with each other. That was like the new bar for the record. It was like, 'Yeah, we're going to put synthesizers and saxophone and kalimbas on these songs, and we're going to have lavish string arrangements if we want to. We were getting comfortable with all of the materials that we love, and being like, 'I love this, so let's do it.
They tracked several songs at home in Chicago last year, and then at the start of 2015, Natalie packed all of her belongings into the Wild Belle van and drove from Chicago to Venice, California. She rented a house where Elliot joined her a couple weeks later. When I had my place in Venice, Elliot would wake up earlier than I would and start making dope beats, says Natalie. One day he made this ridiculous song, 'The One That Got Away,' and the beat and underlying track were so exciting that it didn't take very long to write. Our friends came over and were jumping on the tabletops, dancing, getting naked because they loved the song so much.
Playing the new songs at Lollapalooza for the first time with an eight-piece band, says Elliot, I had a feeling onstage that I'd never had before with Wild Belle, where you're part of a sound that's much bigger than you could make on your own. It's this charged-up badass feeling. It's about a groove and rhythmic energy and force and momentum and making a big, dark, deep sound -- something that moves people and makes you want to dance and makes you want to shout. It's tapping into a deeper musicality that I've always been looking for.1. Mississippi River

Wild child is an eclectic, six-piece band fueled by the songwriting chemistry
between co-founders Kelsey Wilson and Alexander Beggins. The band rose
up out of the Austin music scene with their self-release debut, Pillow Talk
(2010). Since then, Wild Child has made waves by scoring three #1's on
Hype Machine, and has earned a reputation for having explosive live shows
all without the use of electric guitars, or any guitar for that matter. Off the
heels of winning two Austin Music Awards, Wild Child reemerge in 2013
with a sparkly new album entitled The Runaround, plus a record deal
with the Austin boutique label, The Noise Company.
For the making of The
Runaround, Wild Child enlisted indie rock nobleman, Ben Kweller, to sit
in the Producer's chair. Kweller was instrumental in harnessing the band's
youthful energy and combining it with their natural sense of nostalgia. All of
this makes for a timeless set that slams you in the arm with a pop injection
one minute and caresses your heart the next. The Runaround sees six
friends swagger happily through life, swaying to drunken horns and whistling
addictive hooks in your face. Together they march along to crisp, insistent
beats - hearts broken and chins up. Wild Child have proven they are a band
of uncommon character, placing art above all. It's nice to finally see a band
like this gain the adoration of a fan base growing faster than the click of a

TribalLast summer Imelda May became a mother for the first time. You might expect her to turn to singing ballads. You would be horribly wrong.
"There are no lullabies on this album," laughs the lady who's brought rockabilly back into fashion sixty years after it was kicked into life by young men like
Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley, Gene Vincent and Jerry Lee Lewis.
"Tribal" is as primal a rock 'n' roll record as you could ever find, infused with the spirit of Sun Studios, where the sound was born in Memphis, Tennessee -
but given a 21st century kick up the butt by a girl from the back streets of Dublin.
Tribal" - her third album, following "Love Tattoo" and the Top Ten hit "Mayhem" - is her punchiest yet.
The songs on "Tribal" are infused with the rebel spirit that launched rock 'n' roll on an unsuspecting world way back in the mid-1950s, but also the rebel
spirit of the punk bands Imelda admired growing up in Dublin in the late 1970s as the youngest of five siblings - The Clash and The Undertones, The
Buzzcocks and The Cramps.
The motto for the way Imelda lives her life is the title of her new single 'It's Good To Be Alive'. "I wrote it in the early hours of the morning one day after I
had the baby," she reveals. "I was sleep-deprived and feeling very exhausted. I looked out of the window, watched the sun rise through the trees and felt
- God, it's good to be alive!"
Other song titles sum up Imelda's zest for life. 'It's Good To Be Alive'. 'I Wanna Dance'. 'Wicked Way'. 'Wild Woman'. Especially the latter, with its chorus:
"There's a wild woman livin' inside of me/A wicked, wicked wild woman, dyin' to be free". "You see people toning it down and becoming more responsible
as they get older. But inside, there's still the lunatic inside"1. Tribal

Director John Crowley's film, stars Saoirse Ronan as Eilis, an Irish immigrant in 1950s New York who adjusts to life away from her family while falling for an outspoken plumber.
Brooklyn composer Michael Brook has had a busy and varied career, having written the scores for such films as Into the Wild (2007), The Fighter (2010), The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012) and the upcoming Elle Fanning-starrer About Ray.

Daniel Lanois is one of the most influential record producers
of the modern era: the man who brought Bob Dylan back;
longtime collaborator with Brian Eno, soundsculpting a series
of mammoth releases for U2; and producer of breakthrough
late-career albums by Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris. But
before all that, Daniel Lanois was an experimental musician, recording his unique guitar voicings for groundbreaking albums
with guys like Brian Eno and Jon Hassell, along the way helping
to invent a genre called ambient music. What is lost in the
wild success of his production career is Lanois' musical life at
the edge, which is where Flesh and Machine, his new album
on ANTI-, comes full circle.
A wildly ambitious, diverse exploration of modern sonics, Flesh and Machine careens from the
huge guitar skronk of "The End" to the haunted landscapes of
"Iceland." But perhaps for the first time, Lanois' new album
highlights the strange parallel evolution that has taken place in Daniel's music; alongside
the developments in IDM that launched from the same 70s avante-intrumental roots as Eno
and company, Lanois' music has developed a rhythmic complexity heard in the most adventurous music by Autechre or Matmos. Only for Lanois, nothing is digital. Dense, visceral
music that combines the primitive stomach-pounding volume of rock with the heartbreaking
found sonics of early electronic music, Flesh and Machine reminds us that we are bodies in a
mechanized world, and that in the midst of our digital noise we must not forget to breathe.1. Rocco

Society would deem a prodigious girl can't be in a progressive rock band while also being in complete control of its creative vision, business plan and social messaging. Society is wrong. Clementine Creevy, a 19-year-old teen Queen, dreamed up Cherry Glazerr in her LA bedroom alone and is perhaps more capable of figuring a music career out than anyone who attempts this treacherous life path.
Back in 2014, much-loved Cali imprint Burger Records released Cherry Glazerr's intoxicating debut Haxel Princess. The New York Times called Grilled Cheese one of their Top Songs of 2014 alongside heavy hitters such as BeyoncÉ, Taylor Swift and Future. The band toured across the country and abroad, between Clementine's acting responsibilities on the award-winning show Transparent, and gained fans everywhere with their wild lives shows. On their upcoming sophomore album, Apocalipstick, the band worked with rock'n'roll wizard Joe Chicarelli (White Stripes, The Shins, The Strokes) and Carlos de la Garza (Bleached, M83, Tegan and Sara). With their help and the band's newfound self-discipline and motivation, Cherry Glazerr has evolved into a wildly complex, hugely guitar heavy, and unapologetically loud machine.1. Cry Baby

Live At Hammersmith (Awaiting Repress)
England's most distinctive, multiple award-winning, platinum-selling, hugely entertaining rock gods The Darkness have announced the release of their live album The Darkness - Live At Hammersmith, set for release via Cooking Vinyl.
The album captures The Darkness on sterling form at their iconic London headline show at the Eventim Hammersmith Apollo in December last year. In true Darkness spandex-clad fashion it featured huge riffs, mighty bass faces, seismic drumming, hair-raising falsetto, Justin Hawkins acrobatics, gigantic disco balls and a whole lotta pyro.
The Darkness - Live At Hammersmith spans their spectacular back catalog of five albums across 19 incendiary tracks.
Regarding the live album Justin says, "The Darkness is untamed. It cannot be caged. Some very clever recording engineers have discovered a way to capture its essence; all that remains is for us to release it back into the wild.
"Life is about experiences, not possessions. This is your opportunity to possess the experience of The Darkness Live, as perceived by your ears, leaving your eyes free to scan the road ahead for obstacles, or to watch Emmerdale with the sound off, or to mould clay, or to darn socks, or to look at the beautiful artwork in this magnificent gatefold. Release yourself into The Darkness - Live at Hammersmith."
The Darkness headlined Hammersmith as part of their extensive Tour De Prance, in support of their latest critically acclaimed Top 10 album Pinewood Smile. The tour saw the band sell out shows across the UK and Europe last year. They are currently on a mammoth 27-date tour of the US, Canada and Mexico.1. Open Fire
