Living reggae heroes Toots and the Maytals unveiled their first ever acoustic album in the summer of 2012, to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Jamaican Independence Day.

Grammy® award-winning Toots Hibbert was the first to use the word 'reggae' on tape in his 1968 classic, Do The Reggay, and over the last six decades has defined and redefined the sound. With his acoustic album release Unplugged on Strawberry Hill, the legend continues.

Toots lures you into his performances, whether totally amplified or, on this recording, acoustic and all natural. Heartfelt and soulful, every minute of these recording is straight from the heart. It showcases his soul side, and with his raw vocals sound when he was in his 20s.

    Studio One Jump Up

In the 1960s Clement 'Sir Coxsone' Dodd's legendary Studio One Records laid down the template for all reggae music, the equivalent of Jamaica's Motown Records. Artists who launched their careers there comprise an A-Z of the Jamaican music scene - Bob Marley and The Wailers, Burning Spear, Alton Ellis, Ken Boothe, Freddie McGregor, Marcia Griffiths, Horace Andy and many, many more. In the early releases featured here you will find the roots of Studio One's unique sound - from the first jump-up, boogie-woogie and shuffle recordings made in Jamaica in the late 1950s, as the artists emulated their American rhythm and blues idols - Louis Jordan, Roscoe Gordon, Fats Domino - through to the early Rastafari rhythms of Count Ossie, the righteous Baptist beat of Toots and the Maytals up to the joyous excitement of Ska with tracks by Studio One's young protÉgÉes Bob Marley and The Wailers and the all-mighty Skatalites. Clement 'Sir Coxsone' Dodd first began recording music in the late 1950s, making one-off records to play on his Downbeat Sound System. These 'exclusive dup-plates' enabled him to reign supreme in the regular dancehall soundclashes of Kingston, fighting off the competition from rivals including Duke Reid the Trojan and Prince Buster. This new album traces the roots of the legendary label as it created the sound of the young independent Jamaican nation going into the early 1960s. Sir Coxsone used only the finest musicians in Jamaica for these recordings, including those players that would later become known worldwide as the Skatalites, Don Drummond, Roland Alphonso, Ernest Ranglin, Rico Rodriguez, Cluett Johnson and others. As fans clamoured to get a copy of these 'one-off' exclusive records, Clement Dodd eventually decided to start making them available commercially starting in 1959, and so began the birth of an empire.

Live At The Moonlight Club (Pre-Order)

The Specials are an English 2 Tone and ska revival band formed in 1977 in Coventry. In 1980, the song Too Much Too Young, the lead track on their The Specials AKA Live! EP, reached No. 1 in the UK, with the unemployment-themed single Ghost Town also hit No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart in 1981.

In May 1979, the day before the British general elections that saw Margaret Thatcher come to power, The Specials
played a set at the Moonlight Club in Hampstead, London. Reportedly secretly recorded by Decca Records, who had an
office next to the Moonlight Club, it made its way to the bootleggers and wasn't officially released until 1992, through
Chrysalis Records. The Specials mixed punk with Jamaican music to produce arguably the definitive soundtrack of Britain
on the cusp of the 80s. The live album contains reggae classics such as Toots & The Maytals 'Monkey Man' and The
Pioneers 'Long Shot Kick De Bucket'.

Reissued In A Lovingly Re-printed Version Of The Original LP Sleeve

Ranked 378/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Toots & The Maytals' long and storied musical career spans all the way back to the dawn of ska. The
group are not only key figures in the development reggae, they were among the first to utilize the word
in a song title which lead to the popularization of the very term reggae. Among the numerous musical
accomplishments of Frederick Toots Hibbert and his group was the song Pressure Drop, which was
released initially in 1970, but received widespread acclaim for its appearance in the soundtrack to the film
Harder They Come. It's since been covered by The Clash, The Specials, The Selecter, Robert Palmer, and
numerous others, has been rated by Rolling Stone as one of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, and is
credited with helping introduce reggae music to the world.

Though originally released in 1970, the US wouldn't get to experience Pressure Drop until 1975, when
it was released on the US version of their album Funky Kingston, easily considered one of the strongest
albums in Toots & The Maytals' catalog, not to mention one of the greatest in reggae history. Upon its
release in the States it received massive critical applause (Even warming the cold, icy heart of Robert
Christgau) for its infectious melodies and rhythms on tracks like Sailing On, Time Tough, and the
eponymous title track, quirky Jamaica-infused covers of tracks by John Denver and Ike Turner, and of
    course the influential Pressure Drop.

Reissued in a lovingly re-printed version of the original LP sleeve, Get On Down now presents a superb
reissue of a legendary piece of music history.

Keep It Going (Out Of Stock)

The Mad Caddies stand alone in their latest musical achievement. Combining elements of rock and roots reggae atop a punk rock ethos, Keep It Going takes the listener on a musical journey from lively Jamaican dancehalls to the punk clubs of America. Keep It Going, the band's 5th full length, will certainly prove to be the definitive album of their successful career. Grammy award winning producer, Wayne Jobson (No Doubt, Gregory Isaacs, Toots & The Maytals), was brought on to help produce the album, with reggae legend Duckie Simpson (Black Uhuru) joining in to sing on a cover of Delroy Wilson's reggae classic Riding For a Fall. With the album heavily rooted in reggae, The Mad Caddies don't turn a blind eye to their wide array of other influences, showing further development of their south-of-the-boarder sound on Coyote, followed by a tip of the hat to Dixeland on Tired Bones.
