The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys40th Anniversary!
Mastered from the Original Island Records Tapes by Joe Reagoso at Friday Music Studios with Kevin Gray
Traffic was one of the premier architects of the acid rock movement in the '60s and blossomed further into one of the most important super groups of the '70s. Their recordings are the soundtrack to a generation of music enthusiasts that continues to this day and will forever stand the test of time.
In 1972, the legendary founding members Stevie Winwood, Jim Capaldi and Chris Wood sojourned on after a smash outing with John Barleycorn Must Die and continued the winning streak with the groundbreaking classic The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys. Along with new members Jim Gordon (Derek & The Dominoes), Rick Gretch (Blind Faith) and Rebop Kwaku Baah, Traffic was back and on a roll artistically unlike many other important acts of the classic rock era.
Known for more than its amazingly cube shaped album cover, the multi-faceted music inside was a non-stop enjoyment of sounds never heard or recorded since. Whether standout tracks from the pens of Jim Capaldi like the hard rocking Light Up Or Leave Me Alone or the powerful balladry of ancient sounds with the Winwood/Capaldi classic Rainmaker, this brilliant album will most certainly be known forever for its classic title track, the massive twelve minute plus epic, The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys. Filled with explosive sax breaks by the late Chris Wood, the piano driven and vocal delivery of master musician legend Stevie Winwood and the percussive vibrations of the late great Jim Capaldi, Jim Gordon and the late Rebop Kwaku Baah, the song was destined to become a huge success.

Mad Dogs & EnglishmenImport
Mad Dogs and Englishmen is Joe Cocker's legendary live album, recorded in 1970 at the Fillmore East.
For this record Joe Cocker created a unique sound: a veritable definition of big-band rock with three dozen players working behind the singer.
Mad Dogs and Englishmen consists mostly of covers, drawing equally from rock (The Rolling Stones, Traffic, Bob Dylan, The Beatles) and soul (Ray Charles, Sam and Dave, Otis Redding), and is as much a showcase for arranger & bandleader Leon Russell as it is for Joe Cocker.
As we now know the tour from which this album was drawn took a heavy toll on Joe Cocker and especially his vocal chords because the music was presented on such a grand scale.
Nevertheless, the music still stands to this date and beyond.LP 1

Future's Past (Awaiting Repress)DAVE MASON--Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and TRAFFIC co-founding member--has announced the release his new album, FUTURE'S PAST (Something Music/MRI) featuring new versions of his classic songs plus new material that he has written and performed on tour over the last few years. Renowned for such Traffic hits as Feelin' Alright (covered by Joe Cocker) and Hole In My Shoe plus his solo signature tracks We Just Disagree and Only You Know and I Know, MASON's acclaimed solo career continues to flourish as he tours the U.S. with his new project billed as DAVE MASON'S TRAFFIC JAM.
The cover art illustration for FUTURE'S PAST was done by none other than Mr. Graham Nash from a photo he made of DAVE while at Nash's place in Hawaii.
Of the new release, MASON says, There is a great version of 'Dear Mr. Fantasy' that is kind of a re-write. There is a version of 'World in Changes' that is absolutely nothing like the original and there is a great live version that is absolutely beautiful of 'Sad and Deep as You.' There are two or three songs that were on a CD called 26 Letters 12 Notes that I did seven years ago, a Robert Johnson song, 'Come On in My Kitchen' and a brand new song called 'That's Freedom.'

Instant Replay (Awaiting Repress)The Monkees have been one of the world's most enduring rock and pop acts of all time. Since their beginnings in 1966, their television show, multiplatinum albums, hit singles and concert tours truly made The Monkees one of the most colossal stories in the music business. In 1969, Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith and Micky Dolenz went back to the studio as a trio this time and recorded the classic Instant Replay album. Noted for their hit single Tear Drop City, this masterwork also found The Monkees reuniting with the production team of Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart for several of the tracks as well as previous team Monkees writers like Carole King and Neil Sedaka, and highly touted producers like Bones Howe (The Association/Tom Waits) and Shorty Rogers and resulted in some of the finest collaborations ever with this superstar act. Instant Replay also offered the first look at Michael Nesmith's experimental and groundbreaking recording sessions in Nashville as well as solid compositions from all three Monkees.
Opening up with the pop rocker Through The Looking Glass, Micky Dolenz is on top of his game vocally with a brilliant background of horns, Bobby Hart on piano and guitar work by legends Keith Allison (Paul Revere & The Raiders) and Gerry McGee (The Ventures/John Mayall). A major fan favorite, this classic was performed at many of the reunion concerts over the years. The late great Davy Jones belts out another Boyce and Hart classic with the haunting ballad Don't Listen To Linda. The tune truly resonated with the fans back then and continues to be one of the more appreciated classics in his long list of time tested Monkees favorites. Carole King and Gerry Goffin's I Won't Be The Same Without Her features a strong vocal performance by Michael Nesmith and the stunning guitar work of both Monkees' Peter Tork and Glen Campbell. A real summer time feeling song, this track would be a nice bridge to Micky Dolenz's orchestral masterpiece Just A Game.
It is no secret that Nesmith was a fan of country music, but also lauded as one of the first pioneers of the country rock genre, not only with his contributions to the earlier Monkees' recordings as far back as Papa Gene's Blues, even for other noted artists like Linda Ronstadt for whom he penned her first smash single Different Drum. For the Instant Replay album, Nesmith ventured to Nashville's RCA Studios and cut Don't Wait For Me, the first released tune from his now famous Nashville sessions. With the fusion of country studio players and the voice and guitar of Michael Nesmith, The Monkees again were on the forefront of this new genre and would continue with this groundbreaking sound ever more so into future classics like The Monkees Present.
As the '60s would come to a close, Davy Jones would also contribute his major impact on the generation with his truly hip and psychedelic masterpiece You And I. Noted for its hard rock opening to side two, the track also features the stunning lead guitar textures of Neil Young who recently departed with The Buffalo Springfield. More favorites like Nesmith's While I Cry is one of the artist's finest compositions of the era. With Mike's beautiful acoustic guitar work and help from friends like Harry Nilsson, this ballad would truly become one of the more enduring songs from this 1969 classic Monkees album.
Neil Sedaka and Carol Bayer Sager contribute one of the classiest Monkees ballads ever with The Girl I Left Behind Me. Once again, the late great Davy Jones provides a superstar vocal second to none, with a soulful orchestra fill and band setting featuring the production and skillful piano work of Neil Sedaka, while Micky Dolenz would close out the album with his classic Shorty Blackwell. The whimsical tale of Micky's cat and a nod to his friends The Beatles' A Day In The Life, Shorty Blackwell would take almost a year to record and feature a bevy of the original wrecking crew of Hollywood musicians like drummer Jim Gordon (Eric Clapton/Traffic), Tommy Tedesco on guitar and even his sister Coco Dolenz on vocals. This track along with the other eleven tunes make this one of the more enduring and loved albums in the superior catalog of Monkees classics.
Friday Music is once again very honored to announce the continuation of The Monkees Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Series with the re-release of their 1969 masterwork Instant Replay. Mastered by Joe Reagoso (The Monkees/Elvis Presley/Brian Wilson) from the original Colgems Records tapes at Friday Music Studios, this first time audiophile vinyl release is also for a very short time being offered in limited edition red vinyl as well as a first time gatefold cover presentation.1. Still ClimbingLeslie West is set to releases his album Still Climbing in 2013 via Provogue Records / Mascot Label Group.
Originality, excitement, honesty and survival are all part of what makes a legend, and those qualities ripple through every song on the album. It's a testimonial to the strength and durability of West's artistry. Born October 22, 1945, as he approaches his 68th birthday, West has packed some of the most soulful and searing vocal performances of his half-century career into these 11 tracks. His guitar has never sounded more massive or riff-orientated.
What's different on Still Climbing is that I wanted my guitars to sound as big as I look. So I used four of my Dean Signature model guitars with my Mountain of Tone humbucking pickups. I plugged them into my Blackstar amps - no pedals - and turned them up loud and raw, and what you hear is exactly what I did in the studio. These Blackstar amps deliver everything I need without 'confidence' pedals. I played one of the early tracks we recorded for Slash, and he said, 'That is as heavy as it gets.'
Still Climbing is co-produced by West and Mike Metal Goldberg, who engineered all of the sessions. Songs like Dyin' Since The Day I Was Born, Hatfield or McCoy, and Busted, Disgusted or Dead establish a new litmus test for heavy.
The latter features West and Johnny Winter on duelling slide guitars. West also gave up smoking cigarettes and pot after a bout with bladder cancer, so it's no wonder many of Still Climbing's numbers explore the theme of survival and, ultimately, triumph. To that end, West avows, Not only am I lucky to be here, but because I stopped smoking my voice is now stronger than it's ever been - as strong as my guitar playing.
His inclusion of Feeling Good, a song by British actor-musician Anthony Newley that was made famous by Steve Winwood's group Traffic, is a testimonial to all of that. Its lyrics celebrate a new dawn for me as West and his long-time buddy Dee Snider (Twisted Sister) trade vocal lines.
West has always been an outstanding vocalist, earning comparisons to soul legends like Otis Redding since his 1969 debut Mountain, which gave his historic band its name. On Still Climbing West revisits the catalogue of another classic soul man, Percy Sledge, with the enduring When a Man Loves a Woman. He's joined by now 32 year-old soul man Jonny Lang, who he met 15 years ago when Lang was a rising guitar prodigy. West says they cut the tune side-by-side in the studio, their soaring guitars and voices twining to bring fresh blood and a blues-soaked arrangement to the song.
When a Man Loves a Woman, Never Let Me Go and Fade Into You explore a romantic theme. In 2009 West married his wife Jenni, who co-wrote many of Still Climbing's songs with the guitar giant.
Balls, guts, heart - more words that are part of West's legend and describe the roaring crescendos and deep emotional roots of Still Climbing - and West himself. You know, when it comes to talent, we don't all move at the same rate of speed, West muses. Some people start at the top of their game and after 10 or 20 years you wonder what the hell happened to them. I like to joke that the older I get the better I used to be, but after giving up drugs and smoking, my voice can hit notes that I never could reach before. I'm thankful for that.1. Produced by Beck
Coming off a triumphant year of Pavement reunion shows, Stephen Malkmus has returned to the studio with Beck producing to record his fifth solo album, Mirror Traffic. Early press reactions are already calling this gorgeous, crystalline production the album weve been waiting 10 years for him to make, and it certainly contains the most heartfelt and indelible songs hes written in years. Gone are the long guitar workouts and jams that marked the last couple of Jicks albums, replaced by incredibly
catchy and endearing pop songs.
Recorded in Becks studio over a period of two years, the 15-track album ranges from hard-rocking political commentary (Senator), to touching, winsome folk (No One Is), to astonishingly virtuosic but melancholy and contrite kiwi pop (Stick Figures In Love). The sonics are stunningly clear and impactful, while the lyrics are as inventive as ever but more meaningful than they have been since Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain.1. Tigers

Traffic From Paradise200-gram super silent pressing from Quality Record Pressings!
Never before released as a vinyl LP in the U.S.
From the moment she first appeared in front of us on Saturday Night Live in 1979, Rickie Lee Jones has challenged her listeners and the establishment with an absorbing musical vision that defies border and classification. She rocked the culture of singer-song writerdom with her refusal to conform to the stayed and careful eloquence of the folk rock generation that came before her. Neither punk nor pop, she tottered on a thread of her own device, jazz - the old musical kind, and R&B - the Motown thread that permeates her work.
Her self-titled debut album, released by Warner Bros. in March 1979, had an immediate and profound impact in the music world and the culture at large ultimately becoming a multi-million selling hit. Jones secured five Grammy Award nominations, including Best New Artist, which she won at the January 1980 ceremony. She won a second Grammy in 1989 for Best Jazz Performance for her duet with long time pal Dr. John on Making Whoopee.
Traffic from Paradise, released in 1993, features contributions from Leo Kottke, David Hildago and Jim Keltner among others. Now it's being reissued by Analogue Productions as an LP in the U.S. for the first time in its history.

Blood // Sugar // Secs // TrafficHey, what's this? Well that, my friend, is the newest album from The
Gotobeds, entitled Blood // Sugar // Secs // Traffic. It's their second
full-length LP and their first for Sub Pop. Whoa, whoa, please slow down.
I'm already completely lost. What you just said sounded like a stream of
complete gibberish. Okay, I'll lay it out for you and if you have any
questions could you yell them at me? SOUNDS GOOD. The Gotobeds
formed vaguely around 2009 in Pittsburgh and play a mutant strain of rock
music that is often filed under punk, indie rock, or 99-cent discount bin.
WAIT, THE GOTOBEDS? I HEARD THEY WERE KNUCKLEHEADS! Only if
the knuckle is the part of the human body that contains the brains. Much
like their previous releases on underground stalwart labels like Mind Cure
and 12XU, this new album artfully slips intelligence and experimentation
into a dying art form. It's a harder feat than you'd think.
And sure, their live shows have often been compared to an all night party
where I feared for my life and the lives of everybody in the five block
radius, and their recorded output is akin to the sonic manifestos of four
men deprived of human love and raised on beer and Swell Maps, Mission
of Burma, and old Fall records. But what you get with The Gotobeds,
delivered in spades on this album, is smart, noisy rock with just the right
amount of stupid.
FAIR ENOUGH. SO HOW'D THIS GET MADE? It was recorded in bursts
over several months of 2015 in their friend My War Matt's basement in
Pittsburgh. Unlike previously, the songs were conceived and recorded in
blocks, which resulted in a more experimental feel. But this is no chin
stroking curate's egg. You like loud, double guitar leads? OF COURSE I DO.
WHO DOESN'T? You're in luck, because this album is carpeted with em,
thanks to Eli Kasan and TFP. On a song like 'Bodies,' it sounds as if
you've walked into the biggest Guitar Center, but, you know, not terrible.
Keeping it all locked down is the rhythm section of drummer, Cary Belback
and bassist, Gavin Jensen. They allow the downright prettiness of a song
like Red Alphabet to shine, and the lyrics on the anti-sexism thrash of
Crisis Time to punch through.
THIS ALL SOUNDS WONDERFUL, IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED
TO CARE ABOUT? Eh, probably not. Except that Tim Midyett (Silkworm,
Bottomless Pit, Mint Mile) and some bum (Protomartyr) are featured as
guest vocalists on Rope and Why'd You, respectively. Also, I'd be remiss
to not mention the fact that the band's live show is a testament to the
cathartic nature of speed, skill, repetition, noise, and red stage lights. If
you don't believe me, ask the bands they have played with, like Total
Control, Tyvek, or The Replacements. Also, they rep Pittsburgh harder than
anyone possibly could and come off better for it...which is saying
