The Jeff Beck/Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Series Continues!
Jeff Beck's 1968 Masterwork Album - First Time Authorized Audiophile Vinyl
Stunning Gatefold Cover With Rare Photo Of The Jeff Beck Group
Mastered From The Epic Records Stereo Tapes By Joe Reagoso And Manufactured At R.T.I.
Jeff Beck is truly a worldwide gift to rock music and guitar enthusiasts everywhere. There will never be another Jeff
Beck, a guitar genius who has enthralled generations of aspiring musicians and music lovers with the many fine recordings
he has made for the past five decades.
Celebrating five decades in the music business, this English native initially captivated millions of kids in the 60's with
his first recordings with The Yardbirds. He drove the rockers mad with his famous guitar licks and dynamic presence on the
stage. As individual members of the band started solo projects, Jeff Beck began the rudiments of The Jeff Beck Group with
his friends Jimmy Page, Nicky Hopkins, Keith Moon and John Paul Jones and threw down the mega instrumental Beck's
Bolero. This track along new tracks recorded at Abbey Road with Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, Nicky Hopkins and Mick Waller
would serve up his very first solo smash album Truth.
Kicking things off with the hard hitting Shapes of Things, this Yardbirds' revisit takes on a whole new approach with
the soulful vocals of Rod Stewart paired with the guitar antics of Jeff Beck. A match made in heaven, these two pioneers of
the British blues scene carry on with more masterful workouts on such fare as their hits Rock My Plimsoul, Let Me Love You
and their inspiring tour de force Blues De Luxe. Willie Dixon's I Ain't Superstitious and You Shook Me, plus their brilliant Tim
Rose cover of Morning Dew along with the brilliance of Beck's Bolero made Truth the revered masterpiece that it still is today.
Noted for his stellar guitar work, pretty much introducing new ways of using technique, distortion and effects to a
whole new generation of guitar players, Jeff Beck's Truth is truly a primer for a ton of rock and blues artists.
Friday Music is no stranger to the music of the legendary Jeff Beck, his arsenal of fine recordings already on our label.
That is why we are so very proud to announce another fine installment in The Jeff Beck/Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile
Vinyl Series with his first legendary masterpiece Truth.
Mastered impeccably by Joe Reagoso (Jeff Beck, Yes, Deep Purple) for the first time on audiophile vinyl from the Columbia
stereophonic tapes, Jeff Beck's Truth will truly become one of the most important and historical 180 Gram Audiophile
Vinyl titles in quite some time.
To celebrate Jeff Beck's five decades in the music business, we further enhance this limited anniversary edition with a
stunning gatefold cover featuring the original artwork elements as well as a classic inside gatefold rare photo of the original
Jeff Beck Group with Jeff, Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood and Mick Waller.

TruthJeff Becks position in the pantheon of great electric guitarists is indisputable. As visionary a musician as Jimi Hendrix, Beck made his name as the second of three hall of fame stringbenders for the legendary Yardbirds (following in the Slowhand shoes of Eric Clapton and preceding the pre-Zep/session gigging Jimmy Page). Known for his blistering leads and the wild chances he took as one of the first axemen to widely employ feedback during a solo, Beck immediately launched his solo career upon leaving the Yardbirds in 1967. Together with vocalist Rod Stewart and multi-instrumentalist Ron Wood on bass, he cut a pair of albums that expanded on the greatness of his previous work.
In late 1966, Beck began work on Truth, his solo LP debut. Recording with his core group of Stewart, Wood and drummer Mickey Waller, Beck ventured far beyond the established rock guitar lexicon, forging a unique style which would influence generations of future acolytes. The LPs grand masterstroke, Becks Bolero, is recognized as one of the greatest guitar instrumentals of all time. Notably, the session musicians on this track represented the cream of the British rock scene: Jimmy Page on guitar, John Paul Jones on bass, Nicky Hopkins on piano and a Moon-lighting drummer from a mega-band who could not be listed in the credits for contractual reasons. Rumor had it he could see for miles, though.
The influence the album inflicted on the current and future rock scene could hardly be overstated. It showed the way forward toward a heavier, blues-based guitar sound (hello, Led Zeppelin) and provided essential instruction to guitarists from Tom Scholz to Stevie Ray Vaughan. The opening track, Shapes of Things, reworked a Yardbirds song and literally built a bridge from Becks immediate past to his present. The albums cover of the Willie Dixon classic, You Shook Me, beat Zeps version to wax by several months. Throughout the disc, Becks razor-sharp fretwork and enormous tonal palette surprises and amazes at every turn.

Impossible TruthImpossible Truth is William Tyler's debut album on Merge Records. Rooted in apocalyptic expectation and bittersweet nostalgia, Tyler describes the record as "my '70s singer-songwriter record; it just doesn't have any words."
Impossible Truth will challenge your ideas of what an instrumental guitar record can and should be. As his friend and tour mate M.C. Taylor from Hiss Golden Messenger puts it, "William will worry a phrase-some tangled chordal wormhole-until you are certain it's all that exists. He'll take you over the stiles, he'll love you up and down, and then he'll make you cry for the world and what we've done to it. Higher TruthMulti-Grammy Award winning, Golden Globe nominated and acclaimed singer songwriter Chris Cornell has just
released a new solo studio album, 'Higher Truth.' Produced by Brendan O'Brien (Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam,
Neil Young) the album will now be available on 180-gram vinyl on 2 LPs, housed in a gatefold jacket with foil stamping. The single, 'Higher Truth' has been the most added song at Modern Rock radio 3 weeks in a row!
Chris Cornell possess an easy, quiet confidence throughout this handsome, burnished record, an album that occasionally recalls the breaking twilight of Euphoria Mourning but feels warmer and looser than that 1999 solo debut. O'Brien favors subtle shading over bombast, so even when the tracks are built up with pianos, strings, harmonies, and fuzz guitars, it feels intimate, almost acoustic. This illusion persists because there are a fair share of spare, delicate solo numbers here, interwoven among those bolder but still quiet pop tunes. While Higher Truth never seems as self-consciously confessional as Euphoria Mourning, this mellow simplicity is an attribute: a relaxed Cornell creates a comforting mood piece that's enveloping in its warmth.1. The Only TruthVeiled in mystery, enshrined in the psychedelic hall of fame and shielded behind a towering wall of collectors greenbacks, the reputation of Morly Greys 1972 masterwork The Only Truth is beyond dispute. But, accessibility to this Shroud of Hard-Psych Turin has been another matter, impeded by the near- impossibility of obtaining an original pressing and the absolute plethora of shoddy bootlegs.
Quoth the Grey Raven, nevermore. Sundazed has unearthed the original masters, rare single sides, unreleased tracks, and rare graphics, added a detailed history and wrapped them all up in the awesome original artwork for the definitive reissue of The Only Truth. With the veil lifted, fans of fine psychedelia can revel in the majesty of these Alliance, Ohio iconoclasts as they pulverize police corruption on the rocking Peace Officer, run through the gently loping psychedelic groove and stellar riff of You Came to Me, lay it down hard yet easy on Our Time and After Me Again, and find enlightenment with the trippy title track. 30th Anniversary Of The Legendary Album
Fishbone was one of the most distinctive and eclectic alternative rock bands of the late '80s. With their hyperactive, self-conscious diversity, goofy sense of humor, and sharp social commentary, the group gained a sizable cult following during the late '80s.
Truth and Soul is their second album, originally released in 1988. The album features a wide array of genres including punk, ska, reggae, soul, funk, elements of hard rock and blues. Truth and Soul contains a cover version of Curtis Mayfield's Freddie's Dead, originally from the soundtrack to the film Super Fly and it is the first single of the album. Three other tracks were released as singles Ma and Pa, with a video directed by Mike Lipscombe, Change and One Day. The album was awarded four-out-of-five stars in 2004's The New Rolling Stone Album Guide. Music critic Tom Moon called the album one of his 1000 Recordings to Hear Before You Die and Robert Dimery listed it as one of his 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
This year we are celebrating the 30th birthday of Truth and Soul. The album is finally available again on vinyl and includes the original insert with lyrics and liner notes.1. Freddie's Dead

The Simple TruthJeff Austin has been playing professionally for nearly 20 years, most of them as the vocalist/mandolinist of the game-changing bluegrass jam act Yonder Mountain String Band. Austin has long harbored urges to stretch out musically-and even cast a few pop hooks of his own. He finally makes the leap on The Simple Truth, his solo debut (releasing Feb. 10th, 2015) and maiden voyage with Yep Roc Records. Accompanying him is an eager troupe of trustworthy fellow travelers chartered as the Jeff Austin Band: Danny Barnes (of Bad Livers fame) on banjo, guitars and vocals; Ross Martin on guitars; and Eric Thorin on basses and vocals, with North Mississippi Allstar Cody Dickinson on drums, percussion and electric washboard. The result is an album that truly reflects Austin's goal of crafting a sonic document unconstrained by the limitations jamgrass, newgrass or whatever other names it wears. The Simple Truth captures the energy and excitement of that party, as well as the quiet moments of contemplation that happen after guests leave. If one must give it a label, Americana will do, but he prefers to call it, simply, "American music, written from my experience as a 40-year-old guy in America."1. What The Night Brings

Vibes Of TruthVibes Of Truth is a masterpiece that covers all the bases: from soul through funk to jazz. It's been sought-after by collectors for the three club friendly tunes within its grooves: Backed Up Against The Wall, Concrete Jungle and I Need You Girl. The album was brought to Fantasy by Donald Byrd who was enjoying great success with his productions for the Blackbyrds for them and his own jazz fusion albums on Blue Note.
The Blackbyrds were former students of his from the ethnomusicology course he taught at Washington's Howard University just as was Lincoln Ross, the multi-instrumentalist leader of the 3 Pieces. Although the 3 Pieces failed to repeat the success of the Blackbyrds they created an amazing album.1. I Need You Girl

Telling The TruthOver the course of eight years, The Numero Group has journeyed to scads of tiny island nations in search of rare and previously unknown recordings. This time we kept it a little closer to home, unearthing a soul-folk curiosity on the one-stop light cay of Nantucket. By no means a thriving musical community in the 70s or otherwise, the limerick-inducing isle played home to Greenwich Village folk singer Willie Wright for a few years, producing his second and final album in the process.
Born of Harlem doo-wop roots and refined by Boston's counterculture scene, Wright arrived in Nantucket in 1976 well worn by two decades of street corner and club performing, eager to make the easy money only a private yacht clientele could guarantee. Trapped on the island over winter, a set of original songs poured into his cover-heavy set. Tales of Wright's native roots, straight life, his abandoned four children, and the many women he had known flooded his loose leaf notebook before finally being set to tape in New York the following spring.
Tracked with George Buzzy Bragg and Herry Jensen (of Skull Snaps and Jimmy Castor Bunch fame, respectively) in one day with minimal overdubs, Telling The Truth was, and would remain, Willie Wright's brightest and most inspired moment. Sold from the trunk of a car and from a handful of resort stages, the humble album disappeared into the collections and garages of Nantucket tourists, taking what was left of a near-30-year career along with it.
Available for the first time since 1977, this expanded edition of Telling The Truth gathers Wright's lone 45 and only original composition from his first LP to tell the definitive Willie Wright story. Clash The Truth (Awaiting Repress)Now with a full time drummer (and co-writer of two tracks on the LP) Beach Fossils entered the studio in the fall of 2012 with producer Ben Greenberg of The Men. Instead of merely going from a "bedroom DIY" project to a "better fidelity studio project" the deliberate decision to work with Ben was determined to capture, if not in style, the spirit and enthusiasm of
punk and aggressive music in general. To ensure that dynamic, the drums were recorded live in a room with Dustin on bass to give the album a driving and energetic force. Consider the titles "Generational Synthetic," "Caustic Cross" and "Burn You Down," it's easy to see how the record, while not a punk or post-punk record by strict definition, certainly nods to the first major influence of Dustin's creative spark. The first two notes of the title track that kick the LP off are a clear indicator of where his head was at.
The LP also sees Dustin stretching his songwriting muscles, with the acoustic Lennon-esque "Sleep Apnea" and the dreamy "In Vertigo", which features the vocals of Kazu Makino (Blonde Redhead). During the recording period, the studio was flooded and destroyed by Hurricane Sandy and the band had to relocate to another studio to finish the LP in earnest. It all came together when the work of legendary video artist Peter Campus was finalized to be featured throughout the release and on the striking cover. Clash the Truth marks a clear progression in the ongoing story of Beach Fossils. Drawing from the previous works' melodic strengths and uncanny guitar textures emboldened by a sound closer to their energetic and cathartic live set, it's the clear next step in the trajectory of the band and the dis-association from the home-recording boom from which it originated.1. Why Do The Heathen Rage? Not final cover art
The Soft Pink Truth is the solo alter ego of Drew Daniel, one half of celebrated Baltimore-based electronic duo Matmos. After a decade of silence in which Daniel concentrated on Matmos and becoming a Shakespeare professor, The Soft Pink Truth is set to release Why Do the Heathen Rage? whose subtitle "Electronic Profanations of Black Metal Classics" reveals its bizarre agenda as an unrequited love letter to a justly divisive genre. A gleeful queer travesty of black metal's undying obsession with kvlt authenticity, Why Do the Heathen Rage? is also a formally precise homage executed with a scholar's obsession. With the guitar chord transcription assistance of Owen Gardner (Teeth Mountain, Horse Lords) and a coven of guest vocalists, including Antony Hegarty and members of Locrian and Wye Oak, Daniel meticulously transposes the riffs, structures and patterns of black metal chestnuts and deep cuts by Darkthrone, Venom, Mayhem, Sarcofago and more into oddly hybrid new forms. Cruising camp absurdity by forcing a sticky tryst between the two mutually incongruous early 90s subcultures of rave and black metal, the results are bracingly strange on first listen, but curiously addictive as the album sinks in.
Imitating the countless black metal albums that begin with ominous intros, the album commences with "Invocation for Strength", a spoken word track in which a Radical Faery poem used by gay activist Arthur Evans in his classic Witchcraft and the Gay Counterculture is read by Drew Daniel and Antony (Antony and the Johnsons). After this queer hymn, the rhythmic assault begins with an industrial gabber take on Venom's genre-founding song "Black Metal", featuring vocals by Baltimore artist Bryan Collins and screams from Daniel. Stark trap beats and rave synths meet two-step house bounce on "Sadomatic Rites," originally by Beherit, whose electronic opus H418ov21.c was an inspiration to Drew as he was making this album. Adding a witchy twist to an underground metal classic, Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak, Dungeonesse) lends her smoky, soulful voice to an orgasmic house deconstruction of Sarcofago's redlight anthem "Ready to Fuck." After a surprisingly sensitive guitar led intro, "Satanic Black Devotion" erupts with full on screaming vocals from Terence Hannum (Locrian), paired with IDM beats, synthetic banjo, and a rather glaring plunderphonic re-working of a recognizable dancefloor classic. Side Two kicks off with a stark, vogue-ball inspired rethinking of Darkthrone's "Beholding the Throne of Might", with whispered vocals from London based free improviser/composer Jennifer Walshe and a spoken interlude from David Serrotte of the vogue ball crew House of Revlon. The goth factor spikes on "Buried by Time and Dust", in which Daniel's Matmos partner M.C. Schmidt croaks the lyrics to the vampiric Mayhem original on top of MIDI harpsichord while a moldy 808 drops the "Planet Rock" beat. In an Ouroboric final gesture, the album concludes with a paroxysmic take on "Grim and Frostbitten Gay Bar" by Impaled Northern Moonforest, the parodic fake black metal project of Anal Cunt's Seth Putnam. A blizzard of snippets of pop, house, crust and metal are shredded and smothered in lo-fi screaming and arctic field recordings, ending the album on suitably contradictory notes of mockery and celebration. The album's controversial artwork, which will remain redacted for the time being due to the extreme content it portrays, fits those themes as well, depicting a volatile, extremist scene undergoing a long overdue queerification, coming out rich and strange, shiny and pink.
The Soft Pink Truth was started in 2001 when legendary UK house producer Matthew Herbert challenged Drew to "make a house record," resulting in the project's slyly funky debut album Do You Party?, which Herbert released on his own Soundslike Records. Daniel has also produced floor-burning remixes for Bjork, Herbert, Grizzly Bear, Dat Politics and many more under The Soft Pink Truth moniker. "Why Do The Heathen Rage?" follows his 2004 release "Do You Want New Wave or Do You Want The Soft Pink Truth?," a collection of electronic interpretations of UK punk and American hardcore songs. As a member of Matmos, Daniel continues to break down established norms of experimental and pop music practice by filtering genres through unique and brilliant conceptual lenses, and has established himself as one of the most individualistic electronic musicians of the past several decades.
Disclaimer: Aesthetics and Politics are neither equivalent nor separable. Black metal fandom all too often entails a tacit endorsement or strategic looking-the-other-way with regards to the racist, anti-Semitic, sexist and homophobic bullshit politics that (still) pervade the scene, on behalf of either escapist fantasy talk, shaky invocations of art as a crypto-religious path to transcendence, or--the oldest cop out in the book--the quietist declaration that "I just like how it sounds." Just as blasphemy both affirms and assaults the sacred powers it invokes and inverts, so too this record celebrates black metal and offers queer critique / mockery / profanation of its ideological morass in equal measure. Mixed emotions about a murky, diverse and self-differential scene are all very well, but, as Barack Obama is so fond of saying at press conferences just before legitimizing drone warfare, let's be clear: No apologies, no excuses, and no escape clauses are hereby offered. Murderers are murderers. No safe space for fascist garbage. The Soft Pink Truth hereby abjures black metal homophobes, racists, and Nazis categorically and absolutely: MAY THIS CURSE BIND! Pick Me UpTRUTH & SALVAGE CO.'s second album, PICK ME UP (Megaforce/Sony RED), is a work that powerfully builds on their stirring blend of rock and Americana introduced on their acclaimed 2010 self-titled debut album. Distinguished by their four lead vocalists and five songwriters, plus soaring four-part harmonies and a strong guitar-keyboard meld, the band co-produced the album this time around with Jon Ashley, while longtime band cohort Bill Reynolds (Band of Horses) handled the mix. It is a joyous tour de force recorded at Echo Mountain studio in Asheville, NC that features 12 original tracks and a cover of Joe South's Grammy-winning 1968 hit "Games People Play." Opening with the plaintive "The Bad Times," the album shifts into high gear with "Silver Lining" and keeps the highlights coming with such songs as "Appalachian Hilltop," "Bird On The Wing," "I'm Not Your Boyfriend," the title track and the rollicking "So Sad."
True to its title PICK ME UP, this is an album that soars. Tim Jones says, "We liked the triple meaning of 'pick me up,' how you could not only be asking someone for a ride, or literally encouraging someone to pick up the album, but also how it's a metaphorical lift, which we were feeling we needed throughout the process." Walker Young adds, "Lyrically we wanted that song to have an inspiring message, it's talking about hope and perseverance in the face of loneliness and just the challenges of everyday life. The sonic mix we ended up getting matches the vibe perfectly, I think. It's definitely a feel-good album we were going for joyous revelry, music that would inspire the heart and mind."
Scott Kinnebrew says the time between their first and second albums helped them grow: "We have had, really, four years since recording our first record and we have been playing our asses off. So we are better players." Adam Grace elaborates: "For this record, we just wanted to record what we do live onstage every night. We kept things loose, had a bunch of fun, and just played and sung our hearts out. The result is a record that shows the real chemistry we share. You can hear it oozing from every song."1.
