    The End Of That

The End of That is Plants and Animals' third album, following their breakthrough debut, Parc Avenue, and 2010's La La Land. It showcases the band in an intimate, almost live-off-the-floor setting. While there's no shortage of catchy electric guitar riffs, as evidenced on lead single Lightshow, the album also showcases lead singer Warren C. Spicer on piano, and plenty of acoustic guitar, an early touchstone of the band that had been given a break on the last record.

Fans of Plants and Animals' early acoustic work will feel right at home with songs like Before, Song for Love and the title track while lovers of the band's multi-part excursions won't be disappointed either. Side A and B of the album end and begin with their own respective anthemic monsters in Crisis! and 2010. The End of That was engineered by Lionel Darrenne (Feist).

    80/81

Pat Metheny's credibility with the jazz community went way up with the release of this package, a superb two-LP collaboration with a quartet of outstanding jazz musicians that dared to be uncompromising at a time when most artists would have merely continued pursuing their electric commercial successes. From the disbanded Keith Jarrett American quartet came bassist Charlie Haden and tenor Dewey Redman - who alternates with and occasionally plays alongside tenor Michael Brecker - and Jack DeJohnette provides more combustible drumming than Metheny had ever experienced on record before. Yet Metheny's off-kilter wandering on solo electric guitar is a comfortable fit for the post-bop rhythmic crosscurrents of this music. Indeed, Haden and Metheny are in total sympathy, perhaps celebrating their mutual Missouri roots, and Metheny's difficult Pretty Scattered - which he mockingly described as Guitar Revenge! - nearly manages to stump even Redman and Brecker. The first of the Two Folk Songs is a great example of the Metheny folk-jazz fusion, with furious strummed guitar underpinning Brecker's melodic line and excursions on the outside and DeJohnette's spectacular drums. Another remarkable track is Open, a group improvisation that finds DeJohnette shaping the track's direction with a pushing solo and Metheny and the saxes emerging at the end. The two original LPs were organized so that the more distinctive Metheny fusions were on sides one and four and the overt jazz tracks occupied sides two and three.

The Six Wives of Henry VIII

The Six Wives of Henry VIII is the first studio album from the English keyboardist and composer Rick Wakeman as a solo artist. It is an instrumental progressive rock album with its concept based on his interpretations of the musical characteristics of the six wives of Henry VIII. Wakeman decided on the concept in 1972 while he toured the United States with the progressive rock band Yes. As he read a book about the wives on his travels, melodies he wrote the previous year came to him and were noted down. Musicians from Yes and Strawbs, who he performed with prior to Yes, also play on the album.

    180° South (Original Soundtrack Recording)

The 180° South soundtrack features new music from James Mercer (The Shins, Broken Bells w/Danger Mouse), Mason Jennings, and Ugly Casanova (Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse with various collaborators), all of whom participated significantly in the overall film project. Songs by Jack Johnson and Love as Laughter also appear, as well as James Mercer's cover of Neil Young's Journey Through The Past. The compilation was assembled by the film's producer, Emmett Malloy, who recently directed The White Stripes' Under Great White Northern Lights.

Director Chris Malloy's film strikes deeply into the heart of Patagonia's wilderness, it was there, during the making of the film that the soundtrack was conceived. Mason Jennings and James Mercer visited Patagonia during the shooting of the film. Deeply impacted, they spent the following weeks, months and years that followed, writing music and enlisting friends such as Modest Mouse's Isaac Brock and Jack Johnson to help get the soundtrack made.

    Out Of The Black

The raucous, schizophrenic sound of Out Of The Black - much like previous Boys Noize records - has as much to do more with Ridha's attention span as his choice in gear. "I get bored really easily with sounds," he explains, "The exciting part for me is trying to come up with new sounds, putting new sounds in a new dress. I'm sound obsessed. I buy a lot of machines and synths, and I'm always looking for a way to destroy sounds in an unconventional way. I'm always drawn to music and productions that sound entirely different or really naïve or sometimes just stupid. I don´t like it when it sounds too clean and generic, there needs to be some sort of soul. I guess that explains a lot about my sound which I think I instinctually capture. But I do try to keep in mind what I loved about dance music when I started doing this and how it made me feel. Those thoughts were also very much on my mind when I was making this record."

The new album nicely bridges the gap between his previous two efforts; providing the requisite in-your-face electro bang of classic Boys Noize on tracks like "What You Want", "Rocky 2" and "XTC", or more melodic songs like "Ich R U" and "Reality". At a time when mainstream electronic music-particularly the pervasive cultures of EDM and dubstep-have moved dance music out of the clubs and into the stadiums, Ridha is quick to acknowledge the old school house and acid records that shaped him as a DJ; the very same records that continue to bubble up as an influence on Out of the Black.

"I never compromise when it comes to creative or musical things," says Ridha. "I only do what I think is cool and what I like. It's not about what the market wants or what people expect. Maintaining artistic freedom has always been the most important thing to me - for my own music or for anyone on my label." As for the title of his new record, Ridha explains that this music isn't coming from out of the blue. In fact, it's the opposite. "I tend to make and produce music only at night," he says. "I also generally only perform at night, so this is music that's coming totally out of the black. Also, they say the color black can absorb all other colors, which is a cool way to think about making music. You absorb every other kind of music-every possible sound-and what comes out of you is something new, something out of the black."

    Girl Talk

Speaking about her album Girl Talk, Kate Nash says, I worked with my girl band and the great producer Tom Biller. My friend Jeff Ellis engineered the record. I mixed the record at EastWest on Sunset Boulevard, I made four music videos and flew back to London. In London I recorded and released a song called 'Under-estimate The Girl' which caused an explosion online that was fun to watch. Then I went on tour. I have since been continuing to write and record and have started to plan releasing some of this new music. I'm going to be releasing this record on my own record label 'have 10p' which is exciting/scary/new/etc. but ultimately something I'm really pleased about. This has been a significantly important and challenging year for me, I have absolutely poured my heart, soul, brain, guts and mind into this record.

    Shadows

From the Press Release:I felt very free going into making this album. It was a solo mission, on my terms, my time, my choices, says Lenka. Previously my music was focused on being uplifting and energizing. For this album, I shifted to create a lullaby soundtrack for myself, my child and everyone out there. I have always loved albums that one can fall asleep to; an experience I enjoyed a lot growing up. Those songs drift into your unconscious like no others.

Tracks like Nothing Here But Love, an unbridled paean to the power of love, and After the Winter, a celebration of spring and the hope it holds that features Tracy Bonham on violin, offer a welcome respite from a rattled world. Two Heartbeats is an ethereal slice of life written from the perspective of an unborn child (and features the in utero heartbeat of Lenka's son)
The album has is soothing moments, to be sure, but Shadows also grapples head-on with separation (Faster With You), loss (the heartbreaking Nothing) and the fears that keep young and old awake at night (Monsters). The Shadows are imprints and remnants of the big life stuff happening to me right now, she explains. I have been reflecting a lot as things change around me. Birth, death, love, regrets, innocence, dreams, independence, connection.

Lenka plays a variety of instruments throughout, including keyboards, wurli, glockenspiel and vibraphone, and recorded the album in New York, Montreal, Toronto and her hometown of Sydney.

In Australia, Lenka reunited with Tom Schutzinger, whom she had originally worked with when both were members of acclaimed Australian electronic/ambient band Decoder Ring. Schutzinger produced No Harm Tonight as well as Heart To The Party, a track he and Lenka co-wrote.

After leaving Decoder Ring and moving to the States, Lenka released her self-titled debut album in 2008. It entered Billboard's Heatseekers chart at #3 and contained The Show, a No. 1 single at radio in three countries that has had a very long life. It was the pivotal song in the 2011 film Moneyball and Billy Crystal sang The Show during his opening monologue for the 2012 Oscars. The Show has also been heard in promotional spots for Ugly Betty, Old Navy, Coca-Cola, Apple and Crate & Barrel commercials, and on Dancing With The Stars and Grey's Anatomy.

    Turbines

Bands as emotive and enduring as Tunng don't come around too often. Across their decade together, the group have honed their pastoral pop to perfection, winning over audiences and critics one rustic twang of guitar, icy electronic echo and sumptuous whisper of vocals at a time to become one of Britain's most championed underground forces - fitting for an act who began literally underground, in the basement of a Soho women's clothing boutique some ten years ago.

Now their success story is set to continue with the release of fifth studio album Turbines on June 18th on Full Time Hobby in America, their most bewitching and brilliant listen yet. "It's been a twisted adventure to this point, one that has taken us all over the world, an amazing journey," grins instrumentalist and founding member Mike Lindsay. As the band has evolved and grown, so too has its members. "There's a lot happened in this band in the last couple of years" he adds. "Children born, people moving into different places, falling in love, skipping country, broadening horizons maybe this is a coming-of-age record!"

Recorded mainly in a Dorset studio this is the first Tunng album where all six members were more or less all present at each stage of the recording process. Bar an excursion to album engineer and vintage equipment expert Ben 'Benge' Edwards' "synth museum" to add electronic embellishments. It's an album rich in colour and emotion, from the geyser-like organ eruptions of By This to the trip-hop grooves and thunderous timpani of Trip Trap and Heavy Rock Warning. "I remember thinking that this album would go full circle and match the first record in its experimentalism. But that didn't happen." Instead came Tunng's most direct and affecting effort to date. "It's more concise," says Winter. "It's just the essentials, delivered straight."

"It's our sci-fi folk rock album," declares Lindsay, who stresses the key to Turbines' enchanting charm is the sense of family among its creators. "We have been through a lot together, seen some amazing places and some pretty bad places too and it's time to see some more!"

    Quarters

If for some, the debut album can be a weight on strained shoulders compared to off the cuff single tracks and relatively short, sharp bursts of creativity experienced during an artist's fledgling beginnings, then Berlin-based British producer James Welch aka Seams seems to carry his own first full-length easily.

'Quarters' is a record that flows with a lucid fluidity, taking on a more overtly beat-driven stance than previous EPs Tourist and Sleeper (put together last year for a double-release,) but retaining a lightness of touch that allows the material to lift up and outwards from its scuttling rhythms.

    The Drop

In 2011, Danish quartet Pinkunoizu made a tentative mark on the underground with their madcap debut album 'Free Time!', a record that defied categorisation with flourishes of folk, krautrock and lysergic pop all intertwining to become one. Two years on and they're back to reinforce their position as one of the current psych scene's most interesting and intricate bands with second record 'The Drop'. With a softer, more pensive approach to their animate and vivid sonic patchworks, it's no wonder their grabbing the attention of the likes of The Horrors. Immerse yourself in their strange, striking world.

    Saudade

Thievery Corporation, one of the most influential and respected names on the electronic/dance music scene, are pleased to announce their seventh studio album, Saudade, their first record devoted entirely to the Brazilian-born genre that first connected the duo.

Saudade borrows its title from a Portuguese word meaning "a longing for something or someone that is lost, a contented melancholy, or, simply, the presence of absence." Drawing influence from classic Brazilian performers like Antonio Carlos Jobim, Gal Costa, and Luis Bonfá-along with Serge Gainsbourg, Ennio Morricone, and more modern artists like electro-samba pioneer Isabelle Antena-Saudade achieves its delicate yet deeply sensuous sound with the help of more than a dozen guest musicians. With each track sung by one of five female vocalists (including longtime Thievery cohort LouLou Ghelichkhani, newcomer Elin Melgarejo, Nouvelle Vague singer Karina Zeviani, Argentine chanteuse Natalia Clavier, and former Bitter:Sweet singer/songwriter Shana Halligan), the endlessly mesmerizing album also features such guests as U.N.K.L.E. drummer Michael Lowery, Argentine singer/songwriter Federico Aubele, and master Brazilian percussionist Roberto Santos.

"We always try to progress into something different and stretch our musical chops, and taking a whole album to dive into this one sound seemed like a really great way to do that," says Eric Hilton. Adds Rob Garza: "It's a bit of a departure for us, but at the same time these are our roots, this is what brought us together. It's us coming full circle from electronic music back to something organic before we move on to our next chapter."

Fairies should continue. For Smoke Fairies the suggestion of not playing music together would potentially impact more than just their band - theirs was a
friendship forged by music, by a shared ambition that had carried them from their schooldays and on to songwriting and performing together. The result is
a remarkable set of songs, notable not only for their strength and robustness, but also a sense of experimentation. The sheer liberation Blamire and
Davies felt at using synths for the first time is evident in tracks such as the irresistible "Your Own Silent Movie" and the beautifully compelling "Drinks and
Dancing". Davies and Blamire's sublime voices still stand to the fore, and tracks like "Want It Forever" are lined with a deliciously bluesy skuzzy-ness. This
may not be the sort of album you ever expected Smoke Fairies to make, but it is an extraordinary record - bracing, sensual and defiant - and one that
    promises an exciting musical future.

    Green And Yellow

    First Ever Reissue

Green and Yellow is the collected recordings of
legendary lost 1970s Deep South freaksters, THE
STROKE BAND. Seen and heard, until now, by only a
few South Georgia pot heads, rednecks, sheriffs,
strippers, and intoxicated U.S. Marines. Fronted by
Bruce Joyner - a swamp rat synthesis of Buddy Holly,
Bryan Ferry and Jerry Lee Lewis - The Stroke Band were
an art-punk aberration to anything else happening in
South Georgia in 1978 - 79. This Anthology Recordings
re-release of the Green and Yellow album is the first in
any form since the private press LP came out in 1978.

    Invisible Voices

    First Ever Reissue

When he wasn't dispensing prescriptions in his day job as a pharmacist, the late German synth wizard RÜdiger Lorenz followed a truer passion, casting his own unique presence on the world of New Age music, and self-releasing a significant body of work on his own Syncord label. His vinyl debut, 1983's Invisible Voices, highlights when Lorenz's busy, sprawling compositions and untraditional tone banks came into their own. More restless and spirited than many of his musical colleagues, Invisible Voices presents a vision of aural wanderlust, built for the journey and one's reflection on it afterwards.

    Closing Time

When unassuming young Orkney music-maker Erland Cooper picked up his guitar and travelled the length of the country to play a show in London's
Notting Hill, little did he know that a chance encounter with musical veteran Simon Tong (The Verve, The Good The Bad & The Queen, and Gorillaz)
would be the start of a unique songwriting friendship. Together they formed Erland & The Carnival and now, nearly a decade later, arrives Closing Time -
the band's third, most accomplished album yet.

Opening a new chapter, Closing Time is an understated, inward looking collection of songs that feature stunning string arrangements and Erland's
impassioned vocals at centre stage. But rather than the modern folk adaptations of traditional songs, children's poems, and ancient literature on the
band's earlier albums or the pair's recent conceptual folklore project The Magnetic North, this time the band tell tales of a more personal nature.
"Previously we didn't know what we wanted to say or how to say it and would use stories and direct references to help us get to a place we could feel
secure," admits Simon. Erland adds; "in making this record we discarded an album's worth of material that sounded like the first two albums. We wanted
to make something different - doing another Jackson C Frank cover wasn't an option."

Above all, Closing Time is the very first time the listener can truly hear the wholly collaborative process that is Erland & The Carnival. Lyrical and musical
duties have always been shared, yet here the combined creativity of the pair's working friendship is only solidified with Erland taking a more 'hands on'
approach to production. The string arrangements, brought about by the album's unashamed twisted and selfish love song 'Quiet Love', were scored by
Simon before being recorded by a quartet in his living room later that week.

Recorded in Damon Albarn's studio13 with previous Erland & The Carnival engineer Steve Sedgewick and mixed by London Grammar producer Tim Bran
with Paul Weller guesting on two tracks. Despite creating more than 40 songs in the process of writing the album ("Some of the song melodies and ideas
on this may have even been written when I was 21 to be honest. 'Hopeless' certainly was," admits Erland), it was a brilliantly spontaneous and productive
time taking just over 3 days to come to fruition. "We learnt to be incredibly disciplined" tells Simon. "It feels like pruning a tree - when you cut away the
needless and weaker branches, what you get is something much fresher and stronger coming through."
