    Screamin' The Blues

This album is one in a series of special 2014 releases commemorating the 65th anniversary of Prestige Records and the 90th birthday of legendary
    recording engineer Rudy Van Gelder.

Tenor and alto saxophonist Oliver Nelson meets Eric Dolphy (alto, bass clarinet and flute) on this exciting sextet session with trumpeter Richard Williams,
pianist Richard Wyands, bassist George Duvivier and drummer Roy Haynes. Although Dolphy is too unique and skilled to be overshadowed, Nelson
certainly hold his own effectively matching Dolphy's wit and creative ideas. Newly reissued on vinyl, Screamin' The Blues is a 'MUST HAVE' addition to
    all jazz collections.

Mastered From Original Analog Tapes By Bernie Grundman

Recorded By Rudy Van Gelder And Produced By Creed Taylor

Recorded in 1970 at Rudy Van Gelder's studio under the production auspices of Creed Taylor, the arrangement and conducting skills of Deodato, and the engineering expertise of Van Gelder himself, Jobim's Stone Flower is quite simply one of his most quietly stunning works. The album is a simply brilliant, velvety, late-night snapshot of Jobim at his peak. This 180gram vinyl reissue was mastered from analog tapes by Bernie Grundman and pressed on audiophile-grade vinyl at Pallas in Germany.

Workin' With the Miles Davis Quintet (Awaiting Repress)

Undeniably one of the best small bands in the history of jazz, the Miles Davis quintet of the mid-1950s made history at the Cafe Bohemia on Manhattan's Barrow Street and in the New Jersey studio of Rudy Van Gelder for Prestige. This is the 3rd in a series of four LPs taped in two marathon studio sessions, done in the style of sets at the Bohemia, producing music of high energy and immediacy. This is a mix of standards and originals, up-tempos and ballads, and a trio number, Ahmad's Blues. Miles is the sole survivor of this quintet but the music made in the mid-50's period will live forever. The excitement of the emerging John Coltrane; the informed, melodic swing of Red Garland; the tremendous snap and pop of the rhythm trio of Garland, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones, and Miles' poignancy and intense swing. Recording engineered by Rudy Van Gelder.

    Englewood Cliffs Sessions

In legendary Jazz producer Rudy Van Gelder's studio's Englewood Cliff Sessions came to life; a Souljazz album by Dutch Jazz organist Rob Mostert.

It's a truly buzzing album, too; Influenced by great artists such as Jimmy Smith, Jimy McCriff, J.S. Bach, en Herbie Hancock and inspired by his surroundings, Rob recorded an album with Rudy that howls, moans, and swings like no other.

All the great music that was recorded there for labels such as Blue Note, Verve! and CTI seeped out of the walls and immersed Rob in a Smooth jazz esthetic.
Beautiful Hammond Souljazz, now also available on vinyl!

Ike Quebec's timeless, big-toned tenor was a frequent visitor to Rudy Van Gelder's studio in the early sixties. But this album from December 1961 with spare, soulful backing from Grant Green, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones is his masterpiece. The leaner setting works perfectly, evoking an aura of relaxation and monumentality, with the deepest blue of accents.

Miles Davis And The Modern Jazz Giants

Here are tracks from one of the truly classic sessions, in which a combination of jazz giants gathered in Rudy Van
Gelder's studio on a chilly Christmas Eve in 1954. With Thelonious Monk and three quarters of the Modern Jazz
Quartet (Jackson, Heath, and Clarke) as his accomplices, Miles Davis blends sophisticated harmonic knowledge
with raw, spontaneous invention to produce extraordinary music. This is a strong addition to any jazz collection.

Two weeks after Ike Quebec recorded his comeback album Heavy Soul for Blue Note, he was back at the Van Gelder Studio with the same band (Freddie Roach, Milt Hinton and Al Harewood), making a second album. The confidence paid off because It Might As Well Be Spring is every bit the classic the first album proved to be. Quebec's big-toned, vulnerable tenor playing is a thing to behold, as his heart-stopping version of the title tune, Lover Man and Willow Weep For Me attest. Easy Don't Hurt is one of his blues masterpieces.

Tokyo Blues, a quintessential mid-'60s Blue Note session, is Horace Silver's tribute to the Japanese people who have long supported his funky, Latin-flavored modern jazz. American jazz has always been wildly popular in Japan, and this album is Silver's homage to the many fans that he has encountered on various triumphant tours of the island nation. While Silver's trademark funky Latin/swing is at the forefront, the inspiration of eastern delights is clearly evident in all aspects of this grooving date.

John Patton, Grant Green and Ben Dixon were introduced to Blue Note by Lou Donaldson and quickly became the quintessential rhythm section for Blue Note's funkier session. They came together for this, John Patton's first album, with two of the label's tenor saxophonists Fred Jackson and Harold Vick. Since his days with the Bud Powell Trio, drummer Art Taylor was an invaluable member of the Blue Note recording family. A.T.'s Delight is the only album made under his own name for the label and it is a remarkable one. Choosing great compositions by Coltrane, Monk, Denzil Best and Kenny Dorham, Taylor assembled a great quintet fronted by Dave Burns and Stanley Turrentine, often adding Patato's congas to the proceedings. The unique and varied arrangements and great playing pay tribute to the drummer's exceptional song selection.

    Idle Moments

    Blue Note Reissue

As much as I'd love to relay all kinds of anecdotes about the challenges Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray encounter during the mastering sessions, I witness none. These boys know the sound of the facility and the Van Gelder masters like the backs of their handsBack home a month later, I unpack some test pressings Chad Kassem has sent meI hear the most realistic-sounding drums ever reproduced by my system. It's as though I'm sitting at the point of creation, experiencing the same high that brought such gifted musicians together as one. Steve Hoffman, Kevin Gray, Chad Kassem, and Don MacInnis have done Rudy Van Gelder and his Blue Note artists proud. Jason Victor Serinus, Stereophile, April 2008

Time is suspended on these haunting, extended tunes by this brilliant guitarist with the aid of an all-star cast. Unique in Green's discography for its relaxed, lengthy performances and almost dream-like lyricism, this Blue Note classic could well be called Ballads for the Ages.
