    In Rock

Mastered by Joe Reagoso from the Original Warner Bros Tapes at Friday Music Studios and at Capitol Records in Hollywood, CA

1970 was truly a successful turning point year for hard rock legends Deep Purple. The band changed directions and after recording a series of well received albums in the late '60s, they returned to the studio with a new Mark II band line-up and recorded the epoch game changer Deep Purple In Rock.

This superstar act now featured the much revered line up of the original guitar hero Ritchie Blackmore, keyboard great Jon Lord, power drummer Ian Paice, and new cohorts, the superlative Roger Glover on bass and soon to be superstar vocalist Ian Gillan. Deep Purple and their masterwork Deep Purple In Rock truly paved the way for a lot of the hard rock and metal bands of today with the music contained on this legendary release.

As with their continuing expansion into the Deep Purple catalog, Friday Music announces the first time 180g Audiophile Vinyl release of the original U.S. version of Deep Purple In Rock. This mega hard rock classic comes with all of the great tunes you remember like Speed King, Child In Time, Hard Lovin Man and Living Wreck.

Like their other fine Deep Purple releases, this classic has been mastered by Joe Reagoso (Deep Purple/Yes/Alice Cooper) from the original Warner Bros. tapes at Friday Music Studios and at Capitol Records in Hollywood, CA.

As another fine feature of this limited edition release, Friday Music has also included the original gatefold LP artwork, not seen since its original Warner Bros. vinyl release in 1970.

The Elvis Presley/Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series Continues!

Celebrate The 30th Anniversary Of Elvis' Gold Records Volume 5!

First Time Audiophile Vinyl & Gatefold Cover Presentation!

Mastered Impeccably By Joe Reagoso And Manufactured At R.T.I.

Elvis Aaron Presley was born during the Great Depression into a poor family in Mississippi. They moved to Memphis during the early
fifties, and as a struggling young truck driver, Elvis cut some demos as a gift for his beloved mother Gladys. These initial songs, of which he
had only paid a few dollars to record, would become the catalyst that would kick-start the beginnings of a soon to be worldwide superstar
unlike the world has ever known.

The folks at RCA Victor knew that this young fellow named Elvis was destined for superstardom. They quickly signed the legend to a
long-term deal, and his first RCA single Heartbreak Hotel forever etched "The King Of Rock And Roll" trademark to his name. He would eventually become the most successful solo artist of all time!

From the remainder of the 1960's into the late 1970's, Elvis Presley would release many more hit albums, smash singles and movies
before his untimely passing in 1977. Ever proving that he was indeed on top of his game, RCA Victor awarded their superstar artist and his fans
with the King's fifth greatest hits collection Elvis' Gold Records Volume 5.

Featuring a treasure trove of his most familiar top charting hit singles Elvis' Gold Records Volume 5 went on to achieve gold status and
become one of his most memorable titles in his huge arsenal of masterful rock and roll albums.

Thanks to his finest rock smashes like Burning Love, Moody Blue, In the Ghetto and his landmark Memphis session groover Suspicious
Minds, this collection of Elvis Presley's biggest hits were just what the fans were screaming for, and the entire album was built around the
framework of his rocking trademark sound. The 1984 album also was another blockbuster for The King truly proving once again that his career
was unlike any other in music history.

Elvis' Gold Records Volume 5 also included some of his finest ballads like Kentucky Rain and his monumental NBC TV Comeback Special
smash If I Can Dream. In total, the album showcases ten important Elvis Presley hit recordings which have truly gone on to become definitive
classics by any measure of popular music.

You don't need to be from the South to understand Billy Wayne Davis' particular brand of humor, but being the Nashvillians we are (both transplanted and native), this up-and-comer is one of our favorite used-to-be local (and soon-to-go-global) stand-up comedians. Davis has gone from surprising crowds at the comedy club down the road with his ''like-hillbill-ity,'' to winning over the alt comedy scene of Seattle, to hangin' with Marc Maron and working with the likes of Lisa Lampanelli, Louis CK, and Mitch Hedberg since his most recent move to Los Angeles. Third Man Records was thrilled to have Tennessee's much-missed ''thinking man's hillbilly'' to our stage for a little Southern hospitality and to record another addition to what is becoming a pretty formidable series of live comedy records. Some of our absolute favorite releases over the past seven years have been made without the use of a single guitar, and we expect Billy Wayne Davis Live at Third Man Records to join those very ranks.

Fucked Up is a rare band. They're a mutant strain of post-hardcore, arena punk super-talents capable of reworking the strange and the beautiful into something cohesive, but never at the expense of their signature, addictive, furious entropy. They are truly a blitzkrieg of song and lyric.

Is it work-shy and lazy to call a live record whose songs flow seamlessly into one another ''epic?'' What if every track is a battering ram of rabid guitar, fugitive vox, death match bass and roaring drums? No matter how you dice it one word won't ever be enough to explain a band like Fucked Up. All substitutions will pale in comparison to the experience itself. That goes for every blurb and every pixelated cell phone video out there. But our record does the show justice.

Fucked Up got their start as many often do, making the rounds on punk and DIY circuits in Toronto, around Canada and later into the USA. Punk is a genre known for its velocity, brevity, and politics, although here we have an almost complete inversion of those core traits: songs don't race the clock, mythology and storytelling weaving fully realized narratives, and a bipartisan set with a 100% approval rating.

They quickly signed the legend to a long-term deal, forever etching "The King Of Rock And Roll" trademark to his name. He would eventually become the most successful solo artist of all time! Throughout the late 60's into the early 70's, Elvis returned triumphantly to the studios of Memphis and would go on to record many chart topping singles and smash albums, as well as numerous appearances on stage and television that have kept his legacy alive now for over 7 decades.

In 1984, RCA Records created another chapter in his Golden Records franchise with the stellar Elvis' Gold Records Volume 5. Ever proving that he was always on top of his game, the amazing album featured a treasure trove of his most important later works like Burnin' Love, Suspicious Minds and If I Can Dream which was also featured in his Elvis NBC TV Special (also on Friday Music Vinyl). The early 80's collection soon went on to achieve gold and platinum status and become one of his most memorable hits collections in his huge arsenal of masterful albums.

Suicide Squeeze Records Presents:Forever Singles (Awaiting Repress)

    Limited Edition Of 1,000 Copies

Pressed On Custom Light Green Vinyl

    Hand-numbered

Like many of the great independent record labels of the '90s, Suicide Squeeze started
off as a hobby. And like so many other hobby labels, Suicide Squeeze's rst ventures
were 7 singles. But whereas many upstarts plodded through a series of crudely
assembled debut records by short-lived and long-forgotten friends' bands, the Seattle
label hit the ground running with a stream of well-packaged singles by beloved
Northwest artists - 764-Hero, Pedro The Lion, Elliott Smith, and Modest Mouse, to
name a few. Not surprisingly, the quality of these early releases helped catapult the
    label into a full-time operation.

Whether a testament to the enduring allure of vinyl or the quality of the artists on the
roster, Suicide Squeeze continues to make 7s. And in this era of renewed interest in
vinyl, the label's limited-run releases sell out quickly. Lucky collectors continue to enjoy
the vinyl, and the dedicated fans always have the option to download the mp3s. But
what's the better plan for making these recordings endure for posterity? To add mp3s
to the ever-expanding annals of the internet, or to create a new slab of wax capturing
the best singles Suicide Squeeze has had to offer in recent years? Not content with
limiting the songs to the former, the Seattle indie label is going for the latter, culling
some of their nest tracks for the compilation album Suicide Squeeze Presents:
    Forever Singles.

The LP captures the rowdy garage rock of The Coathangers and Davilla 666, the
scraggly dirt-ridden guitars of JEFF the Brotherhood and Heavy Cream, the nostalgic
'60s girl-group melodies of Bleached and La Luz, the exuberant power pop of
Audacity, King Tuff, Nobunny, and Meat Market, the hazy noir soundtrack of Dirty
Beaches, the vitriolic basement-show noise-punk of Nu Sensae, the sinister post-punk
of Wax Idols, and the West Texas-bred Twin Reverb rock of The Numerators. Bundled
together onto one record, the collection perfectly captures the spirit of Suicide
Squeeze in the current decade: rambunctious youthful urgency tempered with a hat
tip to rock n' roll's gritty unsung heroes of the past.

In keeping with the limited-edition nature of the 7s, Forever Singles will be released
on 1000 hand-numbered colored vinyl. And while the compilation is a vital
documentation of the Northwest label's continuing commitment to bold and brash new
artists, it's also a solid reminder of rock music's humble beginning on dusty old '45s.

This record captures a show we had been wanting to see at Third Man since day Numero Uno. Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart are two of the most talented and creative people we know and we couldn't be more pleased that they rocked our stage and committed it to wax so we can finally have a release on the label by the one and only KILLS. These 8 songs were recorded direct-to-acetate on October 10, 2012.

Three very special live records - The Shins, The Kills, and Seasick Steve - all recorded in the Third Man Blue Room last October, and the first three releases recorded live using their one-of-a-kind direct-to-acetate recording process. Without overdubs or editing, these three records were mixed in real time on a Rupert Neve 5008 console by Grammy Award winning engineer Vance Powell, and instantly cut to vinyl by master cutter George Ingram using a 1953 Scully Lathe that previously churned out masters for Cincinnati's legendary King Records (the story goes that James Brown's It's A Man's World was cut on this lathe among many more great sides...)

Elvis' Golden Records No. 1 (Speakers Corner)

Have we got the lot? The King of Rock'n'Roll certainly didn't need to ask whether his entourage had collected together all their favourite hits. They had gathered them all together - a collection of Golden Records, rather like a selection box of favourite chocolates, greedily swallowed down and enjoyed to the full. And how they loved them all - whether 'complete works' collectors or fans. To this very day, this collection from 1958 is quite set apart from the normal 'best of' collections. It shines out like a precious jewel among mere pebbles. This was the first of four Gold volumes, and it set the standard for those to come. Before any of the immemorable songs came to be included, they had to have sold at least a million copies and won an undeniable and unforgettable reputation as a heart-string plucker. To name a title is more than superfluous. It's quite enough just to listen and enjoy. Whoever wants the ultimate basic Elvis collection can't go wrong here.

    Musicians:

    • Elvis Presley (guitar, vocal)

    • The Jordanaires (vocal)

    • and various bands

Recordings: January 1956 - September 1957 in Hollywood, New York and Nashville in mono

    Production: Steve Sholes

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

30th Century Records Compilation Volume 1

In the summer of 2015, Brian Burton (aka Danger Mouse) announced details about 30th Century Records, his imprint in collaboration with Columbia Records. The first release that comes from the world-renowned artist, songwriter, and producer is 30th Century Records Compilation Volume I, featuring eleven tracks of guitar-based brilliance.

A psychedelic mosaic with international scope, 30th Century Records Compilation Volume I, touches both future and classic sounds from the sun-drenched shores of Brazil to to the murky depths of Glasgow. Dan Auerbach's blistering riffage in The Arcs, and Autolux's arty experimentalism are featured alongside Sam Cohen's rough-hewn authenticity and emotive rockers from newcomers like Nine Pound Shadow and Waterstrider. Compiled by Danger Mouse, this album finds guitar music alive and well from the garage to the depths of space.

The compilation will also feature a brand new track from Autolux, who will release their forthcoming album via 30th Century Records in 2016, as well as an exclusive new track from Dan Auerbach's project, The Arcs.

    Rock Steady

Ranked 316/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

They say you can never go home again.

Yet, on their new Interscope Records release and fifth album, Rock Steady, No Doubt has embarked on a globe-spanning musical adventure that proves, once and for all, that home is where the heart is.

At the heart of the quartet's fifteen-year musical journey is a sound, a style and a sensibility that celebrates their enduring bond with millions of fans worldwide: the sheer pleasure of pure pop - danceable, hummable, instantly accessible songs that have become indispensable additions to the soundtrack of our life and times. And now with Rock Steady, that soundtrack signals a return to some of the key creative elements that have made No Doubt one of today's most popular and enduring bands. Simply put, No Doubt is ready to party.

"It's the hardest thing in the world just to be simple, to let the music and the words speak for what you're feeling and, hopefully, to share that feeling. And the feeling we all shared on this album turned out to be pretty simple, too: we were in a good mood."

So says vocalist, lyricist and glorious gamine Gwen Stefani on the inspiration that ignited the dozen deliriously entertaining new tracks comprising Rock Steady. With all-original material penned by Gwen and No Doubt's dynamic songwriting duo of Tony Kanal and Tom Dumont and a roster of producers that pretty much covers the cutting edge of the studio art, Rock Steady, recorded in such far flung locations as London and Los Angeles, San Francisco and Jamaica, is without question the most eclectic, wide-ranging and stylistically diverse offering in the band's extraordinary career. It is also a loving tribute to the musical roots that have nourished No Doubt from their very inception.

"We were on tour pretty much all of last year," explains drummer Adrian Young, "and whenever we had some down time, we found ourselves listening to lots of dancehall. It was kind of like getting back to where we once belonged." Dancehall, the exuberant evolution of reggae, ska and calypso currently rocking the clubs and studios of Jamaica, proved a potent point of departure for the group when they convened in early 2001 to begin work on a new album. "We were part of the whole ska revival back when we first got together," continues Adrian. "The fact is, we had to work hard to prove we had a wider range, and I guess we did that. Because this time around we didn't feel like we had anything to prove. The whole point was to follow the music, wherever it led."

"Following the music" would lead the quartet to a variety of exotic locales as they indulged their instincts and experimented with sounds and settings that would capture the sensational new music beginning to emerge. "This album was less about technique and more about attitude," asserts Tony. "We took it one day at a time and it became a very spontaneous process. Tom had set up a studio at his place in L.A. and we'd meet there just to try out different ideas. Whereas before we'd write everything with a guitar or bass, this time we started with just beats and grooves and keyboards and built from there. After a week or two of songwriting, Gwen had a trip planned to London. Since we were having such a good time we just packed up and followed her over there. We knew we were onto something."

"It felt like starting over," is Tom's assessment. "We had spent two years working on Return Of Saturn because we felt it was important to prove we could do a record that had depth and substance. Once we got that out of our system it was time to have some fun."

Return Of Saturn, the group's smash 2000 release, did indeed establish No Doubt's ability to fashion songs of substance as well as style. It also conclusively demonstrated that the group's 1995 breakthrough release, Tragic Kingdom was more than a flash in the pan, although it was a distinctly dazzling flash that elevated the group to world class status with a solid string of hit singles. "We'd already done most of what we'd set out to accomplish," continues Tom. "We wanted try something fresh."

Something fresh and, as it turned out, something tried and true. "With all the dancehall we'd been listening to it was only natural that some of that rhythm would seep into our new songs," Gwen adds. "We ended up going to Jamaica without really knowing exactly what we'd find when we got there. That was the whole plan from the beginning not to have a plan."

What No Doubt found in the lush musical environs of the island was a creative collaboration with some of Jamaica's most revered producers including the legendary team of Sly & Robbie who sat behind the board for the album's debut single "Hey Baby" and "Underneath It All," a tune written by Gwen with Eurthymics mainstay Dave Stewart during the group's London sojourn. They would also go on record with the fast rising dancehall duo of Steely & Clevie, who worked their magic for the incendiary selection, "Start The Fire." Remarks Tom, "Going to Jamaica and working with the great artists there had always been a dream of ours. Having that opportunity is one the best things about having some success. It's more important than any amount of fame or fortune."

As the spring of 2001 turned to summer the pace of recording stepped up, along with the group's increasingly bold ventures into new creative territory. In Los Angeles they added hip-hop to the mix with the streetwise sensibilities of The Neptunes, co-writers on the album's opening track, the scorching "Hella Good." Next they huddled with high-profile mixmaster Nellee Hooper on Rock Steady's title track as well as such standout selections as "In My Head," "Running," "Detective" and the above mentioned "Hella Good." Along the way they logged time with William Orbit for "Making Out," Ric Ocasek on "Platinum Blonde Life" and "Don't Let Me Down," and the inimitable Prince who co-produced and provided backing vocals on the drop dead gorgeous "Waiting Room."

But mixing and matching songs and producers was only part of the creative evolution that took place with Rock Steady. Says Tony, "Our attitude from the beginning was that we'd do whatever it took to make the music work. We've always been a very self-contained unit. This time we wanted to open it up, to find out what other people could bring to the party."

"The whole album was an exercise in spontaneity," adds Gwen, "and that challenged me to write more directly from my thoughts and feelings. I threw away my thesaurus and put aside my influences, everyone from Joni Mitchell to Sylvia Plath. I wanted to write songs about how it felt to be alive right now and that feeling, despite everything that going on in the world, is optimistic and full of hope. This is a time to affirm what's good and positive in our lives and if we can convey even a small part of the fun and excitement we had making this music, then we've done what we set out to do."

Hot on the heels of Rock Steady's release comes news of an extensive touring schedule that includes select dates with U2 as well as an extensive itinerary of international headlining dates. "We're primarily a live band," comments Tony. "That's how we started and that's how we maintain contact with our fans. Over the past couple of years, as the No Doubt machine got bigger, it's been more difficult to maintain that connection. But this time around,we're determined to stay true to the spirit of the music. It's about having a good time, about dancing in aisles and singing along. We all need that and it's what this tour is going to be about."

"After fifteen years together you naturally create all kinds of rules about how things should be," concludes Gwen. "There comes a time when you've got to throw the rules out and start all over again. That's what keeps it fun and interesting. For us that time has come."

It's a sentiment that gets to the heart of the brilliant music on Rock Steady, an album that finds No Doubt comfortable at home with the risks and rewards of true originality. It's also proof positive that, when No Doubt throws a party, everyone's invited.

Kid Rock is the self-titled sixth album by Kid Rock, originally released in 2003. It was critically acclaimed by Rolling Stone, which named it one of the 50 Greatest Albums of 2003. This is the last album to feature material in the genres of rap metal and hip hop before Rock crossed over to more country rock. Black Bob and Jackson, Mississippi were recorded for his 1996 album Early Mornin' Stoned Pimp in 1995, but were left off the album. Feel Like Makin' Love, Cold and Empty, Intro, Hillbilly Stomp and Run Off to LA were recorded for the demo sessions for 2001's Cocky, but did not make the cut has well. Feel Like Makin' Love originally had Sheryl Crow on the song. Country singer Kenny Chesney co-wrote Cold and Empty.

    Seaside Rock

After spending the first half of the year concentrating on his solo venture, Peter MorÉn rejoins Bjorn and John for the trios followup to 2006s Writers Block. The mostly instrumental, Seaside Rock is Peter Bjorn and John's fourth studio release and it serves as a homage to their respective hometowns. They wanted to feature the voice and dialect from each of their three areas so apart from the instrumental soundtrack to the lonely childhood of northern Scandinavia you can also hear three monologues recurring throughout the record. Since the childhood of each of the three members was quite similar, growing up in small villages located near water in the north of Sweden, Peter Bjorn and John decided to have the theme of water as the main inspiration for the record. Ain't It Hard! Garage & Psych from Viva Records

The short-lived Viva Records label was one wildly eclectic outfit. Helmed by hitmaker Snuff Garrett, this Los Angeles-based imprint targeted the teen marketplace with a series of extraordinary garage / psych / pop singles. The labels command of popular styles prevailed across these Top 40 hopefuls, ranging from the stomping beat of the Shindogs to the psych-fuzz nirvana of the Sound Sandwich. And theres Class of 66 garage-grunge from the Wailers and the Second Helping (yes, thats a teenage Kenny Loggins howling at the moon on the positively snarling Let Me In, among other selections). With a supporting cast led by Leon Russell and J.J. Cale and bolstered with choice Snuff Garrett Productions like Gypsy Trips and Sunday Servants, Aint It Hard! stands as an essential anthology of Sunset Strip sixties sounds!
