    Hallowed Ground

The sophomore effort from the Violent Femmes was a departure from their highly acclaimed debut album. Hallowed Ground features more of their folk/punk hybrid that made them so unique from the start but with even more maniacal energy than they had previously displayed. Lead singer and songwriter Gordon Gano explores his love/hate relationship with religion with the same glee he did exploring the teenage/young adult drama of their debut. An under valued classic brought to you by 4 Men With Beards on 180 gram vinyl.

    Pressed On 180-Gram Vinyl

Mastered From The Original Tapes And Cut At Capitol Mastering

Violent Femmes have released nine studio albums and more than a dozen iconic singles, among them such classics as
"American Music," "Gone Daddy Gone," "Nightmares, "Add It Up," and of course, "Blister In The Sun." Their
remarkable three-decade-plus career has earned them cumulative worldwide sales in excess of 10 million, with
1983's Violent Femmes awarded with RIAA platinum certification eight years after its initial release.

The Violent Femmes self-titled debut album has reached legendary status that few albums ever attain. Released in
1983, Violent Femmes became one of the most distinctive records of the early alternative movement and an enduring
cult classic. By combining elements of Jonathan Richman and The Modern Lovers with new wave and acoustic-folk
and punk rock, the Femmes forged a sound all their own.

Currently out of print on vinyl, this new 180-gram LP reissue faithfully reproduces the album's original artwork, which
features one of the iconic album covers of the 1980s.

    Violent Noise

Since 2008, The Word Alive have steadily maintained a course towards the forefront of alternative music and continue the upward trajectory with their fifth studio album Violent Noise. The Phoenix-based trio-Telle Smith [vocals], Zack Hansen [guitars], Tony Pizzuti [guitars] -tosses and turns between visceral metallic power and entrancing emotionality encased in swathes of otherworldly electronics. It's a singular sound that has naturally evolved since Deceiver [2010] and through Life Cycles [2012], Real. [2014], and Dark Matter [2016]. They reteamed with the producer behind their last offering Matt Good [Asking Alexandria, From First To Last] and followed a spirit unafraid to experiment. By holding nothing back, The Word Alive's connection rings out louder than ever before on Violent Noise. "The most distracting noise in life is the one that comes from your head," Telle explains. "We all battle with self-doubt, insecurities, and trust. This record is about the balance. There's light and dark. Nevertheless, you always have control. I want to show everybody that. I'm proof."

    Violent Hearts

Shimmering Stars is a three-piece dream pop act from Vancouver, BC, Canada. Their music embodies an attempt at drawing out and illuminating the subtle darkness inherent in the seemingly wholesome, innocent music of the 1950s and '60s. The result filters older influences like the Everly Brothers, Del Shannon, Phil Spector and Bo Diddley through a contemporary indie lens. Songs about being in love, not being in love, the painfully modern condition of floating in a state of suspended adolescence, all tinted with the slight self-deprication of knowing how trite it is to be writing songs about these things at all.

Shimmering Stars create reverb-soaked pop songs, full of arching harmonies, pulsing rhythms, and exquisite melodies, often with dark undertones, all while adhering to the timeless structural qualities of the seminal songs that inspired them. The songs are haunting and sublime, at times blissful, and at others heart breaking.

The band began as a recording project in the Spring of 2010. After stumbling upon some old live footage of the Everly Brothers, Rory McClure holed up in his parents garage in Kamloops, British Columbia to record the first demos. That first recording environment rendered Shimmering Stars distinctly dusty atmospheric sound and established a conscious insertion into the garage music continuum. Violent Hearts is the debut LP from Shimmering Stars, released by Hardly Art and Almost Musique.

    A Most Violent Year

Alex Ebert, pairs with writer/director JC Chandor to score his A Most Violent Year, the follow up to Chandor's All Is Lost, which earned Ebert the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score. A MOST VIOLENT YEAR is a searing crime drama set in New York City during the winter of 1981, statistically the most dangerous year in the city's history. From acclaimed writer/director J.C. Chandor, and starring Oscar Isaac (INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS) and Jessica Chastain (ZERO DARK THIRTY), this gripping story plays out within a maze of rampant political and industry corruption plaguing the streets of a city in decay.

    We Can Do Anything

We Can Do Anything follows 2000's Freak Magnet and marks the group's ninth LP. It was recorded in Brooklyn, Nashville, Los Angeles, Milwaukee and Denver during their summer tour. Jeff Hamilton - a multi-instrumentalist in the Femmes' ever-changing backing band, Horns of Dilemma - served as producer, while John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr.) mixed.

The We Can Do Anything cover art was drawn by Kevin Hearn of the Barenaked Ladies, whom Violent Femmes toured with over the summer. He also contributed accordion, guitars, keys and backing vocals to several songs on the album.

Violent Femmes frontman Gordon Gano culled a handful of songs for We Can Do Anything from his trove of old cassette demos and journals, including Big Car and I Could Be Anything. He also shared writing duties on various songs with Sam Hollander, Dave Katz and Better Than Ezra's Kevin Griffin; We Can Do Anything also boasts one cover, What You Really Mean, which was written by Gano's sister, folk musician and artist, Cynthia Gayneau.

    Get Lonely

Get Lonely is every bit as assured as its predecessor, The Sunset Tree, but the mood is entirely different. Sunset chronicled the fraught, violent relationship between John Darnielle and his stepfather and derived its power from an unblinking exorcism of personal demons, while Get Lonely is the haunted aftermath. It's a reflective, intimate record. The mood is one of bittersweet resignation rather than cathartic release. It's a quiet triumph, murmuring with a modest but entirely surefooted confidence. An uncannily coherent and subtly redemptive record which will come to be seen as Mountain Goats' most resonant, assured, and magical collection of songs so far.

Emotionalism from The Avett Brothers is the defining, emotionally-arresting statement of the new indie alternative folk movement. Melding rock, punk, jazz and gospel, The Avetts are reinventing roots music. Theyve become one of the hottest grassroots touring bands in recent memory with shows that have become the stuff of legend. Their signature intensity has catapulted them from tiny college pubs to Bonnaroo. With Emotionalism and a massive U.S. headlining tour that includes Coachella, Bumbershoot and Telluride, The Avett Brothers are poised to break wide open.

    Natural Born Killers

    Import

Most soundtracks simply feature the film's incidental music or songs that were heard in the background throughout the movie. Not Natural Born Killers. Assembled by Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), the soundtrack to Oliver Stone's brutally warped serial killer saga recreates the hallucinatory feeling of the film. Snatches of dialogue interweave with song fragments and sound effects, creating a harrowing, violent soundscape where Leonard Cohen occasionally offers a relief of sorts. In fact, Reznor managed to convey the insanity of the movie's lead characters much more effectively than Stone did with the film itself.

    Straight Outta Compton (20th Anniversary)

Ranked 144/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Straight Outta Compton is the debut studio album by American hip hop group N.W.A, released August 8, 1988, on group member Eazy-E's record label Ruthless Records. Its title refers to the group's native town, Compton, California. Production for the album was handled by Dr. Dre, with DJ Yella giving co-production. The album has been viewed as the pioneering record of gangsta rap; with its ever-present profanity and violent lyrics, it helped to give birth to this then-new sub-genre of hip hop. It has been considered groundbreaking by music writers and has had an enormous impact on the evolution of West Coast hip hop.

    Unchained Spirit

Personnel includes: Buju Banton, Gramps, LMS, Beres Hammond, Luciano, Stephen Marley, Rancid, Wayne Wonder. Producers include: Donovan Germain, Mark Myrie, Tyrone Downie, Stephen Marsden, Tony Kelly. The once controversial Buju Banton, vilified for his anti-homosexual sentiments on his early single Boom Bye Bye and for his typically violent and slack dancehall, artistically turned the corner in 1995 with the release of the conscious and wistful Til Shiloh. The follow-up in 1998, Inna Heights, was equally spiritual and devoid of negativity. The third installment in this awakening is Unchained Spirit, released in September of 2000: a vital and rhythmic mix of homegrown Jamaican philosophy, biblical harmonizing, and just plain eerie dancehall. Banton sets the album off with a slow chant of Psalm 23, giving the album a spiritual center with which the rest radiates.

Good Times Will Never Be (Discontinued)

Artist Brock Enright packs a minivan and travels across the country with his longtime girlfriend Kirsten Deirup to create his first major solo show at her familys cabin in Mendocino, California. Brock dives into his work, disregarding the gallerys mandated budget, schedule, and Kirstens financial concerns for life after the show. The couple soon begins making an often violent and sexually graphic road film that pushes boundaries and sets the artist on an irreversible path toward an impending emotional breakdown.

Once at the cabin, Brock works under Kirstens familys watchful eye, and already mounting tension increases between the couple as Kirsten witnesses Brocks inability to manage the project and support them financially. When the gallery's director arrives to check on Brock's progress and finds his work barely started, Brocks already fragile reality further spirals out of control. The viewer must wonder if the episode is an artistic performance in itself or a genuine plea for help.

    Little Hours

In Richmond, VA, there's a small yellow cottage and an austere replica of a mid-19th Century white Federal period house. The members of Spokane built the structure while recording Little Hours, their first new album in four years. The record is both a document of and an aural parallel to that difficult, meticulous process. It's the patient sheen of stillness after a short, violent burst of intention. The lingering, resonant decay of a nail being hammered into wood. A piano laden marriage of small hopes and quiet violence. Packaged in a vinyl sleeve with both record and CD inside, 50 of which are handmade and numbered. It features the core ensemble of 2003's Measurement along with contributions from members of Brooklyn's orchestral, minimalist band Gregor Samsa.

    Under The Sun

Gordon Gano, co-founder of and songwriter for alt-rock monoliths The Violent Femmes returns to the scene he helped spawn with Under the Sun. Film-scoring brothers and Bogmen members Brendan and Billy Ryan join Gano for Gordon Gano & The Ryans' first collaboration and Gordon's first non-Femmes release as a front man. Gano's influence on alternative music is immeasurable and his latest work is sure to remind the music world of the force and presence with which he originally stormed onto the scene in 1983, paving the way for the commercial explosion of alternative music a decade later. Gano's signature emotionalism is present in full force on razor-edged ballads like title track Under the Sun and the gorgeously unfurling Still Suddenly Here. Tense propulsion underpin Wave and Water and Man in the Sand. His most cohesive collaboration yet, Under the Sun marks the beginning of a promising partnership with The Ryans' and the return of a musical heavyweight.

Jaco Pastorius was widely acknowledged for his skills as an electric bass player. He died in 1987 at age 35 following a violent incident at a Fort Lauderdale drinking establishment.

This self-titled album was Pastorius' solo debut and was originally released in 1976. As living legend Pat Metheny puts it in the liner notes on one of the re-issues of Pastorius' albums:

Jaco Pastorius may well have been the last jazz musician of the 20th century to have made a major impact on the musical world at large. Everywhere you go you hear Jaco's sound; from the latest TV commercial to bass players of all stripes copping his licks on recordings of all styles, from news broadcasts to famous rock and roll bands, from hip hop samples to personal tribute records, you hear the echoes of that unmistakable sound everywhere.

On the hunt for a fabled treasure of gold, a band of warriors, assassins, and a rogue British soldier descend upon a village in feudal China, where a humble blacksmith looks to defend himself and his fellow villagers. A movie inspired by '70s Kung Fu movies and godfathered by Quentin Tarantino, The Man With The Iron Fists is RZA's first step into directing as one of his many contributions to this film: the fabled producer of the Wu-Tang Clan is credited as writer, director, main actor and score producer of this violent outburst of humor and action. Co-starred by Lucy Liu and Russell Crowe, this movie is destined for greatness. For the soundtrack RZA worked together with genre defining artists like Black Keys, Wu-Tang Clan and Kanye West and takes things a step further than his legendary Ghost Dog soundtrack.
