VPI Voyager Phono Preamplifier
Have a question about this product? Please email our audio advisor or call 1-877-929-8729 with any questions or concerns regarding your equipment purchase.
The goal of the Voyager is to create an easy phono option for music lovers getting involved in the VPI line. Voyager has been designed using VPI turntables and is naturally synergistic with the line. In addition, the Voyager gives customers who might own a different turntable brand a chance to join the VPI family through our phono preamplifier.
VPI's new Voyager phono preamplifier, the latest addition to the VPI product line, is a true high-performance design that provides both MM/MC gain and two input capability. With a front panel selection of inputs and MC/MM gain and loading, tonearm and cartridge swaps are easily accomplished.
MM gain is 42db, loading 47K ohms; capacitive loading is selectable between 100pf, 200pf and 270pf.
MC gain is 62db with loading selectable between 100, 500 and 1K ohms.
Internal switching of gain and loading is accomplished using high reliability small signal relays.
The Voyager faceplate is interchangeable and could be swapped down the road with different finishes.
The Voyager utilizes a two stage design: a JFET-based input stage providing the interface with the cartridge, and the gain and drive for the 75 microseconds passive equalization network that follows it. The second stage provides an additional 24db of gain and provides active feedback for tracking the low frequency portion of the RIAA curve.
Both stages are based on matched cascoded Linear Systems JFETS and are servo controlled. Cascode references are supplied by precision/ low noise reference devices.
The power supplies are unity gain voltage reference designs for fast response and low noise.
The circuit layout is a work of engineering art and the results of many years of study and experimentation.
The Voyager presents a sense of purity and low level detail resolution that is highly musical. The design is intentionally symmetrical and single-ended.$2,499.99Phono Preamplifier Buy Now
On The Threshold Of A DreamImport
On The Threshold Of A Dream is the fourth album by The Moody Blues, released in 1969. Like most Moody albums, On The Threshold Of A Dream follows a concept. It explores dreams, especially on the second side, which climaxes with the Voyage suite, inspired in part by Richard Strauss's Also Sprach Zarathustra.
This album is oozing with bright, splashy creative flourishes in two seemingly contradictory directions that somehow come together as a valid whole. On The Threshold Of A Dream provided The Moody Blues with their first British #1 album and remained on the charts for an astonishing 70 weeks.
The Moody Blues are regarded as one of the most innovative and successful rock bands in music history and you only have to put down the needle on this record to be convinced that this bold statement is indeed a fact.1. In The Beginning

Midnight Sun (Awaiting Repress)Moth To A Flame, the album's transportative closer, finds Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl in full psychedelic guise, echoing the minor-key atmospherics of Pink Floyd's Breathe alongside a celestial chorus and mercurial slide guitar.
Midnight Sun follows 2010's Mark Ronson-produced Jardin Du Luxembourg and the same year's homegrown Acoustic Sessions.
In more recent times, the duo have toured with fellow psych voyagers The Flaming Lips and Tame Impala, while Lennon found time to release Mystical Weapons with Deerhoof's Greg Saunier and continue his role as Musical Director of his mother's Plastic Ono Band. Muhl, meanwhile, immersed herself in the folk world with Kemp & Eden.

Solid Selection Of Songs By The Band's Career, Including Go Now, Nights In White Satin, Never Comes The Day, Gypsy, I Never Thought I'd Live To Be A Hundred, I'm Just A Singer (In A Rock 'n Roll Band) And Many More
The Moody Blues formed in the early 1960s in Erdington, Birmingham, England. Ray Thomas, John Lodge, and Michael Pinder had been members of El Riot & the Rebels. They disbanded when Lodge went to college and Pinder joined the army. The pair recruited guitarist/vocalist Denny Laine, band manager-turned drummer Graeme Edge, and bassist Clint Warwick. The five appeared as the Moody Blues for the first time in Birmingham in 1964.
It was the single, Go Now (released later that year), which launched their career. The single became a huge hit in the U.K. and landed the number 1 spot in the charts. The band soon realised that their style of R&B-derived rock and pop was not working for them and decided to develop an original new style, featuring the symphonic sounds of the mellotron and Ray Thomas' flute.
Assigned to make a rock and roll version of Antonin Dvorák's New World Symphony, Moody Blues insisted that they be given artistic freedom and be left without supervision. The result was Days of Future Passed (1967), which combined the band's tracks with orchestral interludes arranged and conducted by Peter Knight. The album plus two singles, Nights in White Satin and Tuesday Afternoon, became substantial hits.
Their follow-up album was In Search of the Lost Chord (1968). The album was again a big success with hits as Ride My See-Saw and Voices in the Sky. Their next album On a Threshold of a Dream (1969) featured the sensitive ballad Never Comes a Day and was their first number 1 album in the U.K.
The band's music continued to become more complex and symphonic, resulting in 1969's To Our Children's Children's Children, a concept album. It closes with the fan-favorite Watching and Waiting. To Our Children's Children's Children was also the first release of the group's own founded label, Threshold Records.
Released in 1981, Long Distance Voyager was a success, reaching number 1 on Billboard and top 5 in the U.K. The album featured the hit, The Voice, written by Hayward.
The remaining Moody Blues trio continues to tour and to this day the Moody Blues are one of classic rock's most enduring institutions, with world-wide sales of nearly 80 million albums and a following that continues to support the band. COLLECTED by Moody Blues is a careful selection of the distinctive sound of the band, presenting the different periods the band has gone through.LP 1

Voyage 34Remastered By Steven Wilson
The album originates from a single track, titled Voyage 34, which was to be part of the Porcupine Tree's second studio album, Up the Downstair. Originally a 30-minute track intended to be the second disc of a double album, Wilson eventually decided to release Voyage 34 independently of the rest of the album.
Instead, it was released in two parts, as singles, as Voyage 34 (Phase 1) and Voyage 34 (Phase 2) in 1992. In 1993, Voyage 34: Remixes was released, containing two remixes of the originals. Voyage 34 (Phase 3) was a remix by the British electronic music group Astralasia, while Voyage 34 (Phase 4) was a remix by Wilson himself, along with future band member Richard Barbieri. A voice sample of Dead Can Dance's song As the Bell Rings the Maypole Spins is repeated throughout all four tracks.LP 1

The VoyagerCelebrated California singer songwriter Jenny Lewis returns with The Voyager, which will be released by Warner Bros. Records. This is the former Rilo Kiley frontwoman's third solo album and first in six years, following 2006's Rabbit Fur Coat (with The Watson Twins) and 2008's Acid Tongue.
The Voyager is Lewis' most deeply personal album to date, documenting her struggle to cope following the death of her estranged father in 2010 and the subsequent break-up of Rilo Kiley. The Voyager's rootsy, golden glow comes courtesy of Lewis and the artists she chose to produce various tracks, including Ryan Adams (who, alongside Mike Viola, produced all but three of the tracks), Beck, and Lewis' longtime collaborator Johnathan Rice. The Voyager finds the always relatable songwriter at her sharp-witted best, singing about her recent experiences with honesty and incisiveness.1. Head Underwater

Wowowwowow! That was my reaction the first time I heard
De Lux. It's got a tropical post punk flavor reminiscent of
the Talking Heads."
They have some resemblance to Talking Heads and The Rapture
and my prediction is that they are the next revelation in the Los
L.A.'s De Lux are a post-disco dance-punk DIY duo that sound like they could
have come out of 1979 or 1982 just as easily as 2013. Founders and multi-instrumentalists Sean Guerin and Isaac Franco didn't meet so much as simply appear to
each other, sometime before high school ended and after learning to correctly fall
off skateboards began. Even at age 18, however, it was the kind of connection that
had been years in the making.
Sean had been writing songs since he was 15 and had spent recent years recording
and re-recording his own songs. And Isaac had been on a strict diet of classic and
obscure disco and boogie music since he too was 15, figuring out the original source
of hip-hop's greatest samples thanks to an older brother with a DJ sideline and an
enviable collection. They both were after the same thing in music-the groove, they
say, where the bass and the beat align in a perfect way that makes you want a song to
go on forever. They were even in a band together, but it wasn't De Lux. But you can
hear the exact moment De Lux became a band when you listen to "Better At Making
Time," the song they built from Isaac's out-of-nowhere bassline just before practice
for that other band was supposed to start: "Sean was like, 'You should record that!'"
says Isaac, "and I was like, 'What, really?'"
From lead track "Better At Making Time," De Lux roars through Psychedelic Furs
or Duran Duran-style pop ("Love Is A Phase"), delivers shouts and whispers like
James Murphy at his most frantic ("Make Space"), sinks into Eno-esque moments
of bliss ("On The Day") and rockets through the agit-funk David Byrne-style rave-up finale "Sometimes Your Friends Are Not Your Friends." And this is all from the
first-take-they never re-record, says Sean. If they don't perfectly catch that beat as
it happens, they let it go. That's probably why Voyage sounds as wild and alive as it
does. Just like on that surprise recording "Better Making Time," you're not hearing
a band come together. And just like how they met, you're hearing a band appear.1. Better at Making Time

REDD-FAT-5417xMelody's Echo Chamber
Bon Voyage (Awaiting Repress)Melody's Echo Chamber (aka Melody Prochet) has confirmed her second album Bon Voyage will be released via Fat Possum Records. Made up of seven expansive tracks, Bon Voyage marries Melody's breathless soprano to the wildest sonic excursions, always pinned to an emphatic, clattering groove as she delivers her fables of spiritual search and emotional healing in multiple tongues (French, English and Swedish).
Bon Voyage is a collaborative record between Prochet and Dungen's Reine Fiske and The Amazing's Fredrik Swahn with Melody sculpting and producing the sessions as well as encouraging the players around her to experiment, often with instruments that might be less familiar to them. It also features special guests Gustav Esjtes and Johan Holmegaard (both from Dungen) and Nicholas Allbrook (Pond).
A musical journey of discovery, Bon Voyage delves deep into the collective musical psyche of Melody and her Swedish fellow travellers, who she met one serendipitous summer's afternoon in Angers back in 2015. Prochet describes the members of Stockholm's premier neo-psychedelic overlords Dungen as "soulmates and extreme beings, uncompromisingly intense and sensitive." These kindred souls daydreamed about making music together, and then Prochet took matters into her own hands and moved to Sweden in the winter of 2016 to begin their adventure. Working in the woods of Solna, Melody says: "Swedish nature helped me to breathe and soothed me in times of anxiety. I had a majestic forest with a lake three minutes' walk from my home. Recording sessions were a break in our lives, an escape from our frustrations as young adults, parents, musicians and embittered life jugglers. What transpired was a kind of modern fairytale full of duality: beautiful and disenchanted, happy and painful, internal and external, childish and mature, but also violent and measured. We had no structure and no limits and we stepped out of our comfort zones."
Bon Voyage arrives more than five years after Melody's Echo Chamber's debut, and it is the soundtrack to a trip back from the brink, the sound of spiritual renewal, and a pilgrimage to the sonic outer limits.1. Cross My Heart

Voyage To IndiaIndia Arie seems comfortable in her own body. She told us as much on both Video and Brown Skin from her stunning debut album, Acoustic Soul, which celebrated the diversity of feminine beauty, self-acceptance, and spirituality. She addresses similar themes on her second outing, although much of her original soul-scouring fire is gone. While she still preaches self-empowerment, many of her lyrics veer toward the trite, and that's not where we expected to go on this Voyage to India. In fact, there are very few self-revelatory moments like the ones on Soul. Arie seems bent on journeying to the center of womankind's mind, rather than unearthing more of her own autobiography, casting herself as adviser to the disempowered. But that is not where Arie shines. When she strips her voice down to its unvarnished essence--leaving all the imperfections in the mix--she is a lithe, ethereal presence. She's capable of raising chills, as when she sings of a man who foretells his death on Good Man. Or on Complicated Man, where she lets her voice run ragged, brimming with raw emotion while describing her imperfect love. Despite some glibness, this is still a voyage worth taking. --Jaan Uhelszki1. Growth

URPD-TMR-462xBlind Willie Johnson
American Epic: The Best of Blind Willie JohnsonTexas slide guitarist and gospel bluesman Blind Willie Johnson recorded only 30 songs over the course of his life as a preacher and street performer. Even so, the savvy combination of his gritty and powerful "chest voice" singing style coupled with his mastery of slide guitar (some report he regularly used a knife as a slide) has given him a notably influential legacy, specifically with later bluesmen Howlin' Wolf and Robert Johnson. His tune "Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground" was selected for Carl Sagan's Voyager probe Golden Record, the Library of Congress as well as the National Recording Registry.

Wildcat ShakeoutWorshipped by rock gods such as Little Richard and Gene Vincent, flamboyant gospel pianist S Q Reeder Jr was tempted into the recording studio several times in 1958 to demonstrate his secular capabilities.
However, the resulting Wildcat Shakeouts, by the renamed Esquerita, were deemed far too extreme even for black radio... Judge for yourself!
At the very dawn of the UK's rock 'n' roll revival in the late 1960s, Jeffrey Kruger's Ember Records launched its Speciality subsidiary to concentrate on back catalogue rhythm & blues and rock 'n' roll. Unlike the vast majority of reissue labels from that time, however, Speciality made its name with left-field reissues from a variety of US labels, including compilations of Ella Mae Morse & Freddie Slack, The Johnny Otis Show, The Jodimars and, most startlingly, an LP collection of wild rock 'n' roll by the uniquely-named Esquerita titled Wildcat Shakeout.
Although enjoying a slew of singles, EPs and even an LP in the US, Esquerita had just one single release in the UK in the 1950s, which was so rare that most rock 'n' roll fans were unaware of him. From the Ember sleeve photo, collectors assumed he was a disciple of Little Richard and even a cursory sampling of the enclosed tracks seemed to bear this out, but the truth may have been the complete opposite; S Q Reeder Jr always insisted that it was he who had influenced both the music and fashion-sense of the then musically-directionless Little Richard when they met in the early 1950s, and even Richard has had to admit that our man taught him how to hammer the piano into submission!
Fantastic Voyage now resurrects the Wildcat Shakeout LP in all its glory, bolstered by a handful of additional tracks, thus gathering together all of his original 1958-1959 releases.
As his 1950s promo material declared, His sensational music, just like everything about him, is truly the farthest out that man has ever gone. Arguably, it still is...1. Rockin' The Joint

The Past We Leave BehindMike Simonetti has decided to split from Italians Do It Better (Chromatics, Glass Candy) to focus on his new project, Pale Blue, as well as his new venture: the freshly minted label 2MR (Two Mikes Records). A collaboration between Simonetti and Captured Tracks, 2MR is an opportunity for Simonetti to start from a blank slate and release music he believes in. The first release on 2MR will be The Past We Leave Behind, the debut album from Pale Blue. During the writing process of Capricorn Rising, Simonetti was asked to remix tracks from the West Coast twosome Silver Hands. Immediately taken by the incredible range of lead-vocalist Elizabeth Wight, he reached out to collaborate. The result of the bi-coastal email exchange would eventually become Pale Blue. Pale Blue, referencing the term "Pale Blue Dot" , coined by Carl Sagan to refer to a photograph of planet Earth taken by the Voyager 1 space probe in 1990, was originally conceived around the time that Hurricane Sandy hit New York and came to completion with Simonetti's severance from Italians. Thus, many of the tracks that make up The Past grapple with themes of loss and new beginnings. The Past encompasses a myriad of sonic elements, ranging from rhythmic, melodic techno to atmospheric ambient productions, while also incorporating Simonetti's varied background in noise, drone, and even experimental dream pop. Above it all though, Wight's vocals remain the focal point, saturating the record with a lush melodic warmth that's so often missing in the electronic world. Musically, Pale Blue is a response to modern dance music and its constant fluctuations. It intentionally bears no obvious singles, nor club hits. While Simonetti, Wight and Jana Hunter (vocals on "Dusk in Parts") remain at its core, Pale Blue's philosophy is to keep everything open to collaboration. It does not aim to pigeonhole itself into a genre or any new vistas in music, but instead to a unifying sound produced collectively and harmoniously.1. The Past We Leave Behind

Staying At Tamara'sStaying At Tamara's is the highly anticipated sophomore album from George Ezra. This collection was written, created and inspired by George's travels, including spells on the Isle of Skye; at a pig farm in Norfolk; in a former cornflour shed in Kent; a converted cow shed in north Wales; and in an Airbnb in Barcelona owned by the Tamara of the album's title. The result is a finger-snapping, brass-blaring, wind-in-the-hair album that shines with positivity and encouragement, alongside moments of more subdued reflection.
The first single from Staying At Tamara's is the uninhibited, feel-good song 'Paradise.' George explains that "'Paradise' started life as a melody that I couldn't get out of my head Months later I set to writing a song highlighting the undeniable feeling of meeting somebody new and falling for them. We often find ourselves second guessing feelings that we have and trying to work out what it is that they might mean. But with love there is no uncertainty, it is what it is and I liken it to paradise." The new album also includes the previously released track "Don't Matter Now."
Staying At Tamara's comes three years after George's debut album Wanted On Voyage, that featured the worldwide smash "Budapest," a Platinum US single. The Wanted On Voyage album is certified Gold in the US, and 4x Platinum in the UK.1. pretty shining people

ConcordeThe very first long-playing record ever recorded by the Modern Jazz Quartet, Concorde (1955) provides a vehicle for stunningly refined playing by

New Jazz ConceptionsA significant date in the history of legendary pianist Bill Evans' recording career, New Jazz Conceptions marks his maiden voyage as a leader and finds
the then 27-year-old pianist already sounding much different than the usual Bud Powell-influenced keyboardists of the time. Recorded in 1956, more than
a year before he joined the Miles Davis Sextet, this set finds Evans flashing his own unique chord voicings in a lyrical, swinging style. Three selections
here are taken solo (including the original version of his classic Waltz for Debby), while the other eight are performed in a trio with bassist Teddy Kotick
and drummer Paul Motian (including his future theme Five, Speak Low, and No Cover, No Minimum). A strong start to a significant career and a must
