    Flash Harry

Harry Nilsson's Last Album, Unavailable For Over 30 Years!

Finally Released For The First Time Ever In North America.

Paul McCartney and John Lennon described him as the Beatles' favorite group, he won Grammy awards, wrote and recorded hit songs, and yet no figure in popular music is as much of a paradox, or as underrated, as Harry Nilsson.

Flash Harry was the 16th and final album released by Harry Nilsson. Originally issued only on vinyl in the U.K. and Japan. This legendary album has never been released in the U.S. The album features Nilsson's own recording of Old Dirt Road, co-written and performed with John Lennon on Lennon's album Walls and Bridges (1974), Lennon's last album of original songs before his six year hiatus. Other song collaborators include Lowell George, Van Dyke Parks and Ringo Starr. The title track "Harry" is performed by Eric Idle and Charlie Dore.

    Shaved Fish

At the time of its release, Shaved Fish didn't attract as much attention as any compilation of John Lennon's work would have either a few years before or a few years after. Lennon had just issued the somewhat disappointing genre album, Rock 'n' Roll, and was only a year from Walls and Bridges, not one of his strongest albums, and had also grown somewhat stale as a public figure. Drawing on his singles up to that point in his career, it shows a punkier, more defiant vision of Lennon's work than subsequent compilations, which would dwell on a broader cross section of his output. Happy Christmas and Imagine are moments of peace in the company of artifacts from his political/agitprop (Power to the People) and primal scream (Mother) periods, and his attempts at topical songwriting (Woman Is the Nigger of the World), and Whatever Gets You Through the Night, which was unique to this LP, was a better piece of mainstream rock & roll than any of the late-'50s numbers that he ground out for Rock 'n' Roll. This collection, which was the last LP release to come from Lennon in any form until Double Fantasy five years later, was the only compilation of his work released in Lennon's own lifetime, and has since been supplanted by various posthumous assemblies of his music.

    Remastered From Original Analogue Masters

With Faithfully Replicated Original Album Art

John Lennon's eight solo studio albums, remastered from their original analogue masters, have been newly cut to vinyl from 96k digital files for Lennon, a new 9LP boxed collection on heavyweight, 180-gram vinyl with faithfully replicated original album art. Released by Capitol, the collection's albums are all out-of-print worldwide on vinyl, with the exception of previous LP remasters of Imagine and Rock 'n' Roll which are in print in the United States. Lennon is the first complete collection of John Lennon's solo studio albums to be released on vinyl.

The albums were remastered from John Lennon's original mixes in 2010 by Yoko Ono and a team of engineers led by Allan Rouse at Abbey Road Studios in London and by George Marino at Avatar Studios in New York. The new vinyl masters were cut by Sean Magee at Abbey Road Studios and the LPs have been manufactured for the world by Optimal Media in Germany.

Each of the Lennon collection's LPs is an authentic reproduction of its U.K. original, in its sound and visual presentation. In keeping with the original album artwork, Imagine contains reproductions of its two postcards, poster and inner bag, Some Time In New York City includes reproductions of its original postcard and inner sleeve, Walls and Bridges includes its sleeve with two fold-over flaps, an eight-page booklet and inner sleeve, and Mind Games, Double Fantasy and Milk and Honey also include reproductions of their original inner sleeves.

John Lennon is one of the world's most celebrated songwriters and performers of all time. Lennon has been posthumously honored with a Lifetime Achievement GRAMMY® Award and two special BRIT Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Music, and he has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2008, Rolling Stone ranked him in the Top 5 of the magazine's 100 Greatest Singers Of All Time list.

Mastered By Bob Weston At Chicago Mastering Service
    And Pressed By RTI

Back in print, the classic third LCD Soundsystem LP.

Of the many arresting moments that fill LCD
Soundsystem's This Is Happening, perhaps the most
unexpected comes less than halfway through album
opener "Dance Yrself Clean." The seemingly unassuming,
low-key rumble of a song morphs from its mumbled
beginnings into an outsized flash of synth ballast and
wailing vocals. The sudden shift is like the flicking on
of a light, the perfect example of frontman-songwriter-mastermind James Murphy's effortless balance of restraint
and release, organic rock and electro pop, and muted cool
and vibrant emotion. This study in contrasts pervades LCD
Soundsystem's third, and possibly final, release--an album
where Murphy refracts images of heartbreak and longing
through the scattered light of a disco ball.

The cautious observations and honest reveals that follow
are literally and figuratively quieter moments than that
initial blare. On "All I Want," against a wall of whirling
guitar, Murphy recognizes a relationship that can't be
saved, and instead asks for "your pity" and "your bitter
tears." "Home" shuffles over pulsing keys and bubbling
percussion as Murphy tries to bridge physical and
emotional distance, singing, "You might forget, forget the
sound of a voice / Still, you shouldn't forget the things
we laughed about." Conversely, the sparsely decorated,
sauntering "Somebody's Calling Me" is almost hopeful
in comparison: "Somebody's calling me" Murphy half
    whispers, "to be my girl."

With This Is Happening, Murphy has created a work of
both nuanced introspection and distanced observation.
DFA is proud to offer the vinyl version of this much lauded

    Planetario

From their humble start, file-sharing musical ideas and producing their first album in separate countries during the dawn of the internet, Novalima is now a live musical force revered worldwide for breaking boundaries and uniting seemingly irreconcilable genres, communities, and generations. They have created an inspiring movement and revolutionized the music scene in their native Peru by bridging a longstanding divide between the mainstream and the minority Afro-Peruvian community, who have struggled against discrimination and cultural dissolution for generations. Over the last two years, Novalima created their newest offering, Planetario to be released June 16th on Wonderwheel Recordings. The album's name signals Novalima's musical growth and international connections - much of the album was recorded on tour when they collaborated with top local and international musicians. There is a strong connection to Colombia created through a remarkable recording session in Bogota organized by members of La-33 including Sidestepper vocalist Eka Muñoz, Pernett and La Mamba Negra. The album also has offerings from global artists such as Marc de Clive Lowe (UK/NZ), Panko from Ojos de Brujo (Spain), and Kumar (Cuban rapper based in Barcelona). The album's debut single, "Como Yo" (to be released May 19th on digital single and 7" vinyl) honors the legendary Peruvian percussionist and longtime band member Mangue Vasquez who passed away in 2014. Not one for sentimentality, Mangue implored his friends to celebrate his life with song and dance when he passed rather than shed any tears. The life affirming lyrics are underscored by rolling percussion, twinkling synths, and a celebratory sing-song chant chorus: Gozen la vida como yo - Enjoy life, like I do. Novalima has garnered worldwide critical acclaim from mainstream (NPR, UK Guardian, Wall Street Journal, La Presse, Metro, Billboard) and underground media (Giant Step, Remezcla, Nat Geo) alike, delivered legendary performances around the world at festivals such as Roskilde, WOMAD, Pirineos Sur, NYC Central Park, Montreal Jazz Festival and Chicago's Millennium Park, earned a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Album, and were featured in cult filmmaker Robert Rodriguez's hit Mexploitation movie Machete. For their upcoming year of international touring Novalima has designed a brand new live show that will debut in Lima at the Grand Teatro National on May 28th as part of the country's celebration of 100 years of Afro-Peruvian culture. Novalima''s international tour begins in North America this June.

    Hell Or High Water Soundtrack

Directed by David Mackenzie Hell or High Water is a heist film starring Ben Foster, Chris Pine and Jeff Bridges. Based on the infamous 2012 Black List script, the film is set in West Texas, in an area formerly known as Comancheria, and tells the story of two brothers who plan a bank robbery to save their family farm. The film was extremely well-received during its Premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

Critics praised and applauded the film's archetypal Americana, along with the memorable performances of its main protagonists and the composers' moody and minimalist score. Nick Cave of the Bad Seeds and his musical partner Warren Ellis deliver a ravishing score perfectly fitting the dry and arid landscape in which the characters strive to survive. The soundtrack album also includes Sleeping On The Backtop (Colter Wall), Outlaw State Of Mind (Chris Stapleton) and many more country music infused titles.

    Freedom Highway

Freedom Highway, Grammy Award-winner and 2017 Grammy nominee Rhiannon Giddens' follow-up to her highly praised debut album Tomorrow Is My Turn, will be released by Nonesuch Records. The record includes nine original songs Giddens wrote or co-wrote while she and her band toured after Tomorrow Is My Turn's 2015 release, along with a traditional song and two civil rights-era songs, Birmingham Sunday and Staple Singers' well-known Freedom Highway, from which the album takes its name.

Giddens' writing for Freedom Highway is a departure from Tomorrow Is My Turn, which included one original song, with the rest being her interpretations of songs written or performed by a wide variety of female musicians. Giddens co-produced Freedom Highway with multi-instrumentalist Dirk Powell in his Breaux Bridge, Louisiana studio, with the bulk of recording done in wooden rooms built prior to the Civil War. As producers, Giddens and Powell sought to release the stories already in the walls, allowing the space to be a voice in itself. This approach allowed for an emotional fearlessness and presence not always easy to achieve in the studio. Together they assembled the players, which included her superb touring band, local musicians from the bayou, a soulful horn section from New York, and talented family members. The principle recording was done over an intense eight day period. The result is an album that is rawer and more personal than its predecessor.
