The Famed Recording Returns In A Premier Vinyl Reissue From Analogue Productions!

Mastered From The Original Tapes By Ryan Smith At Sterling Sound

Plated And Pressed At Quality Record Pressings On 200-gram Vinyl!

Deluxe Old-style Tip-on Gatefold Jacket With Additional Photos From The Sony Music Archives!

Bruno Walter helped shape the very essence of interpretive style among conductors. Walter's rendition of Beethoven's sixth symphony is perhaps the greatest ever recorded - his reading of the score comes off sounding like a piece of literature or poetry, but that is a great thing and perfectly blends with the music to create a benchmark recording.

And here, once again, Analogue Productions has taken a classic and shaped it to make the premier reissue of this famed LP. Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound mastered this album from the original analog tapes. The cut lacquers were plated and pressed to 200-gram vinyl by our own Quality Record Pressings. The Stoughton Printing old-style tip-on gatefold jacket has been upgraded handsomely by a series of rarely-seen photos of Walter from the Sony Music Archives. Everything about this reissue radiates quality.

Written in 1808, Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 in F Major (Pastoral), Op. 68, is deemed one of the most influential by the famed composer. Unlike the vast majority of assumed names by which his works have become known, Beethoven directed from the very outset that his sixth symphony be titled Pastoral Symphony, or a recollection of country life. It was a musical approach to the forces of nature that inspired Beethoven.

Walter's late life was marked by stereo recordings with the Columbia Symphony Orchestra, an ensemble of professional musicians assembled by Columbia Records for recordings.

Originally released in 1958, this recording still sounds fresh, with a broad soundstage, persuasive depth, and a remarkable sense of air and presence. Simply because of Walter's vibrant, fluid interpretation, taking into account both variable tempi and heightened accents, the result is one of the most passionate, awe-inspiring recorded versions of this symphony that's ever been recorded.

Beethoven: Symphonies Nos. 4 & 5 (Speakers Corner)

Schoenberg, Zemlinsky, Korngold - Bruno Walter knew them all: musicians who sought refuge from the henchmen of the Nazi Party in the New World and found artistic fulfilment there. And they all knew him and his meteoric rise to success at all the great houses in Europe. Formed by working with Gustav Mahler in Hamburg, under whose wing he rose from rÉpÉtiteur to Chorus Director and then to Kapellmeister, Walter took on further posts as Chief Conductor in Vienna, Munich and Leipzig where the talented artist matured to become a true maestro.

Just when the aged Walter was wanting to retire into private life, Columbia motivated him to record several symphonic works - including Beethoven's Symphonies - at a time when stereo recording, with its previously undreamt technical possibilities, was just dawning. Even without any knowledge of the still existent recordings of the rehearsals of the Fourth and Fifth Symphonies, the final recording reflects the lifelong experience and meticulousness of the great conductor. In a taut and relaxed manner, and certainly not mellowed with age, Walter brings the scores to glow. The players weave a web that holds the formal symphonic components together with sophistication and richly contrasted, whereby the conductor's love for tonal detail manifests itself in easily identifiable instruments.

This Speakers Corner LP was remastered using pure analogue components only, from the master tapes through to the cutting head. All royalties and mechanical rights have been paid.

    Musicians:

    • Ludwig van Beethoven (composer)
    • The Columbia Symphony Orchestra conducted by Bruno Walter

Recording: January and February 1958 at American Legion Hall, Hollywood, USA

    Production: John McClure

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

The Blues World Of Little Walter

Little Walter cut eight tracks for the short-lived Parkway label, with Muddy Waters as a sideman (and ensemble vocalist). These sides convinced Chess to record the full Waters band. We fill out the album with other session by Waters-connected artists to give a picture of the Chicago blues scene just before the Chess sound took over. Hours were spent cleaning up the disk-to-tapes of the Walter sides (which had been widely bootlegged with surface noise). The studio tapes of the other tracks were clean. Marvelous and historic music now available again on LP with the original cover painting by Jeanette Walzak and liner notes by Jim O'Neal.

Luther's Blues: A Tribute To Luther Allison (Awaiting Repress)

Walter and Luther Allison were fellow Road Warriors.

Ever since Luther's untimely passing in 1997, Walter has wanted to do a tribute album to the memory of Luther. It is, however more than a tribute to Luther's playing and his song-writing; it is a tribute to a way of life that Luther exemplified, and a way of life that Walter knows so well:

To play and sing with everything you have in your body and soul to an audience, with the hope of reaching them, and somehow giving them an unforgettable experience of a live show.

This CD/Vinyl features a beautiful booklet with Walter's emotional story of the last time he saw Luther. Also many photos, and exclusive liner notes written by Luther's son, Bernard Allison, Luther's long-time love and partner Carolyn Rocky Brown, and Luther's song-writing partner and 25 year band member, James Solberg.

    My Future Is My Past

Walter Wolfman Washington is a soulful musician of rare talent, as
well as a deep thinker and hip philosopher, and his hometown is New
Orleans. Walter has cut his teeth for the last 50 years playing everywhere
from European festivals to bars that Google Maps will never
find. New Orleans is notorious for its wildness, parades, and celebrations.
New Orleans is Mardi Gras, but it's also the uptown class of
Allen Toussaint and hip style and language of Dr. John. Walter has
always embodied both, but finally we have a set of songs that reflects
the yin to Walter's bring-the-party yang. This is the record that we all
have known he has in him. This is the night after that party, or maybe
just the after party. He's been given free rein to express himself, and
    that's special.

Producer Ben Ellman has assembled a sympathetic group of musicians
from keyboardists Jon Cleary and Ivan Neville to a versatile
rhythm section of bassist James Singleton and drummer Stanton
Moore. Soul Queen of New Orleans Irma Thomas lends her voice to
a cut and matches Wolfman note for note. Those two go back a long
way. Walter played guitar in Irma's band in the late 1960s. Can you
picture how much fun that might have been? And this is their first
recording together. His future is his past indeed.

Although a Blue Note regular at the time on sessions by Donald Byrd, Art Blakey and others, Walter Davis made only one album for the label. With Byrd, Jackie McLean, Sam Jones and Art Taylor, he explores six of his finest compositions. Davis possessed the ability to write music that was funky and catchy, but still progressive, which explains why he was one of Art Blakey's favorite pianists and composers. Minor Mind, Make It and Millie's Delight are among the album's highlights.

    Get Thy Bearings

Robert Walter performs all his own stunts. For 20 years, the San Diego native has been pulling drawbars and pushing the limits of the Hammond B3 organ. As a founding member of the Greyboy Allstars, he helped usher in the funk-jazz renaissance of the early '90s and has continued to keep one hand comping chords in the instrument's funky past, while the other explores ever-new melodic terrain. On June 25, his long-standing project, Robert Walter's 20th Congress, returns with, Get Thy Bearings, via The Royal Potato Family. It was a recent move from New Orleans to Los Angeles that jump-started the 20th Congress who hadn't recorded a studio album in ten years. The nine-track effort presents Walter's organ, piano, Rhodes and synthesizer driving an all-star line-up rounded out by guitarist/bassist Elgin Park, drummer Aaron Redfield, sax players Karl Denson and Cochemea Gastelum, and percussionist Chuck Prada.

Get Thy Bearings is drenched in the vintage old school soul, funk and jazz vibe of Walter's heroes like Big John Patton, but it also reflects his recent work scoring films. There's a conceptual depth to the songwriting that draws on elements of narrative and character development, lending a cinematic color to the proceedings. The tracks range from the Sly Stone-style soul vamp of Little Business to the heavy gospel of Crux. Dog Party might as well be the theme song to a cartoon of the same name, while Don't Chin the Dog shifts from delicate shuffle to horn-drenched boogaloo. Things get eerie on Up From the Skies, a Jimi Hendrix cover rendered nearly unrecognizable in washes of electric Miles. Similarly, the album's title track is a shrewd reworking of the 1968 Donovan tune Walter first discovered on compilation of sample-friendly breakbeats, full of fuzz guitar and a mercurial organ solo.

Having moved all around Canada and settling nowhere, Walter TV are contemporary
nomads. They formed their band in the basements and cottage-like houses of a
    beach town outside Vancouver.

After Joe McMurray and Pierce McGarry moved to Montreal, they shared an
apartment with a constant revolving cast of characters. In a space often overpopulated
and reeking of cigarettes, they began recording Blessed. Simon Ankenman
would come by periodically, and with him they would finish most of the recordings
between there and LA. The band's two members, Joe and Pierce, were also busy
touring with Mac DeMarco, acting as his backing band. Mixing and recording
turned into a thing to do on the road.

Although the group prefers tape recordings to digital, they have never been militant.
Always trying to uphold their DIY sensibilities, Walter TV believes the music should
speak for itself. It should come from wherever and whatever is available.

Blues For The Modern Daze represents the guitar legend returning to his core blues roots; creating his first blues album in 23 years as a bandleader. Walter Trout's inspiration for the album was the country bluesman Blind Willie Johnson as he explains, His music is so beautiful, primal, direct and deeply spiritual that I wanted to feel it at my back when we were cutting these songs. Blues For The Modern Daze cuts right to the core of his art and his heart. His 21st album returns the contemporary guitar legend to his hard-core blues roots and finds his songwriting here at a creative and personal zenith.

    ALIVE In Amsterdam

On November 28th 2015, Walter Trout took the stage at Amsterdam's Opulent Royal Theater Carre for a captivating live performance that showcased the blues-rock legend at full-throttle. With songs pulled from every era of his five-decade career, the 'ALIVE In Amsterdam' set is potent, From the stinging Luther Allison cover "I'm Back," to the plaintive B.B. King tribute "Say Goodbye To The Blues," which builds from neck-tingling guitar swells to a stunning virtuoso climax. 'Battle Scars' is well-represented by the harmony-bolstered rocker "Almost Gone" and the raucous "Tomorrow Seems So Far Away," while Trout is joined by his son Jon for "Rock Me Baby," and even finds time for a fistful of fan favorites, including "The Love That We Once Knew" and "Marie's Mood."

'ALIVE In Amsterdam' is the sound of a man announcing his resurrection after a period on the ropes. As Trout's army of international fans are painfully aware, recent times have taken the bandleader to the brink, hollowing a bleak diagnosis of life-threatening liver failure and hepatitis C in 2013. Trout's rebirth began with a successful transplant in may 2014, and gathered speed with 2015's 'Battle Scars': the acclaimed studio album that channeled his near-death experience into raw autobiographical songs.

Urgent, impassioned, and electrifying, ALIVE In Amsterdam is a live album to treasure. Walter Trout is on tour all this year, stopping off at some of the most prestigious venues such as Royal Albert Hall, Carnegie Hall, and Ryman Auditorium, as well as festivals in the US and Europe including Lead Belly and New Orleans Jazz & Heritage festivals. Trout always shows you magic in the studio, but it's on stage where he truly comes alive!

Mozart: Symphonies Nos. 35 & 41 (Speakers Corner)

    Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Symphonies Nos. 35 K. 385 (Haffner) and 41 K. 551 (Jupiter)

At flea markets in the colourful, pre-digital era, one could occasionally find Bruno Walter's Mozart recordings amongst other 'rarities'. Thin vinyl discs of dubious origin changed hands for a small sum, the cheap bootleg recording gave up the ghost after just a few rounds on the turntable and then vanished into thin air. What remained, however, was a musical impression that - from that moment onwards - influenced what one expected when listening to Mozart's symphonies. Is it the unifying sound with which Walter so harmonically interweaves the slender serenade-like character with the great symphonic idea in the Haffner Symphony? Does the magic of the fast finale, which Mozart wanted »to be played as swiftly as possible«, lie in the brisk tempo or in its clear structure?

An answer to this and other questions is given by this new release of the Symphonies No. 35 and the unique Jupiter. The latter was a linchpin in the history of the genre; it not only terminated and consummated Mozart's creative period but also opened - as the first monumental piece - the way to the great symphonic works of the 19th century. The tightly knit finale in particular, with its sparkling mixture of strict counterpoint and galant style, is highly captivating thanks to its spirited and motivated, yet never overhasty, rendering, which can be enjoyed time and again on this production. And that's guaranteed!

    We're All Young Together

Not wasting much time since The Walkmen announced their hiatus (and then reneged that announcement for a night), the band's multi-instrumentalist and co-writer Walter Martin has revealed details of his debut solo outing. Entitled We're All Young Together, the record is due out in 2014 from Family Jukebox.

The label name is especially apt as the spark for the album came when Martin's wife was pregnant with their first child. "It wasn't that I wanted to write songs to suit my new situation as a parent," Martin said in a press release. "It was more parenthood made relevant writing the kind of songs I've always loved most." He continued, "I began to imagine a record I really wanted to hear: something new and original that captured the essence of early rock 'n' roll - innocent but mischievous, romantic but funny, and unabashedly sweet."

Martin brought in the help of some big name friends for the record, including Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O and Nick Zinner, The National's Matt Berninger, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah's Alec Ounsworth, and - proving that their are no hard feelings - The Walkmen's own Hamilton Leithuaser and Matt Barrick.

Subject matter ranges from sibling similarities ("Hey Sister") to a treatise on the difference amongst The Beatles ("The Beatles (When Ringo Shook His Mop)"). Our first taste of the record, however, comes in the form of the acoustic lullaby "Sing To Me", featuring Karen O.

He may not be a mainstream mainstay, but mention the name Walter Schreifels to
anyone even tangentially involved in the punk or hardcore scene and chances are you'll be met
with borderline reverence. From his tenure in legendary hardcore bands like Gorilla Biscuits and
Youth Of Today to his work in the pioneering post-hardcore act Quicksand and cult favorites like
Rival Schools, Schreifels has proved himself to be one of the most talented and diverse songwriters
of his generation. Over two decades after GB released their landmark album Start Today,
Schreifels transcended his hardcore roots and showed another side of his constantly shifting skin
with his solo debut An Open Letter To The Scene.

From stripped-down acoustic meditations like the album's title track to Schreifels' psychedelic-tinged
cover of Agnostic Front's "Society's Sucker" and an intricately arranged version
of his CIV Classic "Don't Gotta Prove It," An Open Letter To The Scene is arguably the first
project Schreifels has ever recorded that manages to incorporate all of his diverse influences and
recontextualize them into a cohesive whole.

    Brahms: Alto Rhapsody (Speakers Corner)

Johannes Brahms: Alto Rhapsody, Song Of Destiny / Gustav Mahler: Songs Of A Wayfarer

The Alto Rhapsody, Song Of Destiny and Song Of A Wayfarer. Each of these three vocal compositions is unique in its expression and construction, yet the frayed emotional worlds of all three works are connected by a multitude of fine threads. The Alto Rhapsody, which Brahms wrote as a wedding gift for Clara Schumann's daughter Julie, in whom he was himself in love, demonstrates with almost Wagnerian weight the anger that the disappointed Brahms must have felt while composing. The Song Of Destiny too, with its sonorous E major waves of harmony, soon announces in C minor the finiteness of existence as Hölderin's poem demands. That finally a hopeful, conciliatory - though unsure - moment lingers is reflected in the musical means. Many emotions and vagaries are emulated in Mahler's song cycle. The journeyman sets off on his wanderings in order to forget his unhappy liaison and strides through the ups and downs of mixed emotions and painful heartache. Drumrolls and march rhythms reflect the real world and sounds of nature, dissonances and a change between major and minor keys show the way from dreams, reality and feelings. The recording with Mildred Miller and the Columbia Symphony Orchestra under Bruno Walter has achieved reference status and is sure of a place in the TAS Super LP List given out by The Absolute Sound.

Still constantly touring, gathering new fans and respected as one of the world's finest rock/blues guitarist there is no stopping Walter as he prepares for a busy year ahead. A lesser artist might rest on such laurels. As Walter Trout powers into his quarter decade as a solo star, there's no whiff of the ennui or creative autopilot that hobbles the later output of most veterans. On the contrary, there's a sense of growing momentum, perhaps even of a little surprise. "It's hard to believe I'm still alive, to be honest," he smiles. "I should have been dead by 30, with the life I was leading. But I still have a career, and at 62, I'm still climbing the ladder, which keeps it exciting, instead of trying to rekindle past glories. I feel like I play with more fire than when I was 25. I'm still reaching, y'know ?"

The Famed Recording Returns In A Premier Vinyl Reissue From Analogue Productions

Now Cut At 45 RPM On 2LPs

Mastered From The Original 3-track Tapes By Ryan Smith At Sterling Sound

Deluxe Gatefold Tip-On Jacket From Stoughton Printing With Rare Photos

200-Gram LPs Pressed At Acoustic Sounds' State-Of-The-Art Pressing Plant, Quality Record Pressings

Now with Analogue Production's 45 RPM release, the best-sounding version of this historic album gives listeners an even richer sonic experience. The dead-quiet double-LP, with the music spread over four sides of vinyl, reduces distortion and high frequency loss as the wider-spaced grooves let your stereo cartridge track more accurately.

Beethoven: Symphony No. 3 (Eroica) (Speakers Corner)

Recordings of classical repertoire in the Fifties and Sixties were made during a time of technical development, which is hardly given a thought in our day with its global digitization and mass reproduction. To appreciate the improvement offered by analogue recording technology as opposed to a high-quality mono reproduction, one can do no better than listen to the present rendition of Beethoven's Symphony No. 3. Bruno Walter and his handpicked Columbia Symphony Orchestra present this major orchestral work with its heroic, revolutionary character as a grand symphonic undertaking. Thanks to the new studio technology, Beethoven's 'new path', and his daring experiment with musical form and content is revealed with previously unheard of depth and amplitude. Just how prudently Walter approaches the score is shown again and again in the highly detailed reconstruction and finely chiseled rendition of passages for small ensembles. Instead of depending upon brusque contrasts of the elements, Walter's conducting concentrates on exposing the wealth of differing styles and tonality in the score. This strategy of balancing out the contrasts blazed a trail for today's unremitting search for the much-heralded original sound.
