Deep In The Night (Pure Pleasure) (Awaiting Repress)
Originally released on Warners Brothers to scant acclaim in 1978, this Jerry Wexler-produced masterpiece finds James in astounding voice with a batch of great material to apply her massive interpretive powers to. The band, including the cream of the late-'70s Los Angeles session hot-shots (Cornell Dupree, Jeff Porcaro, Chuck Rainey, Plas Johnson, Jim Horn), lays it down soulful and simple and the result is a modern-day R&B classic. Highlights abound throughout, but special attention must be turned to James' takes on Only Women Bleed and the Eagles' Take It to the Limit.
- Etta James (vocal)
- Plas Johnson, Jim Horn (saxophone)
- Larry Carlton, Cornell Dupree, Brian Ray (guitar)
- Keith Johnson (electric piano)
- Richard Tee (piano)
- Chuck Rainey (bass)
- Tom Roady (percussion)
- Jeff Porcaro (drums)

About Pure Pleasure
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.1. Laying Beside You

Callas at La Scala (Studio Recital)Coinciding with the new Callas Live Remastered Edition, the catalog's 2017 priority, Warner Classics re-releases two of Maria Callas' legendary studio recitals on vinyl, using the state of the art remastering done in 2014.
Callas first sang at Milan's legendary La Scala for the opening of the 1951-52 season (in Verdi's I vespri siciliani) and she became closely identified with the theater, notably in productions directed by Luchino Visconti and his protÉgÉ Franco Zeffirelli. Spontini's La vestale was staged for her there in 1954, Bellini's La sonnambula in 1955, and her final La Scala performances came in 1962 with Cherubini's Medea.
Callas at her most spell-binding and enthralling, wrote Gramophone, Callas at La Scala ( ) shows the diva at her most exciting and most beautiful.1. La sonnambula, Act 1: Compagne, temiri amici ....Come per me sereno

Callas Portrays Verdi Heroines (Studio Recital)Coinciding with the new Callas Live Remastered Edition, the cataloger's 2017 priority, Warner Classics re-releases two of Maria Callas' legendary studio recitals on vinyl, using the state of the art remastering done in 2014.
This recital brings together three operas from the earlier years of Verdi's career (Nabucco, Ernani and Macbeth) and one of his greatest mature masterpieces (Don Carlo). Callas sang all of them on stage apart from Ernani, and Lady Macbeth proved a triumph for her when she opened La Scala's season in December 1952.
Gramophone greeted this recital by saying: Mme Callas has seldom had such a field day and her dramatic instinct is well-nigh perfect in interpreting these wonderful pages, each characterized convincingly - and differently.1. Macbeth, Act 1: Nel dì della vittoria ....Vienil t'affretta (Lady Macbeth, Chorus)

Brahms: Violin ConcertoWarner Classics continue releasing iconic recordings of the core catalogue in their original cover artwork on LP to benefit from the booming vinyl market. Heroic, dramatic, reflective and joyous, Brahms's Violin Concerto, written for the great Joseph Joachim, a close friend of the composer, is one of the monuments of the Romantic repertoire.
In a performance of epic sweep, Itzhak Perlman and Carlo Maria Giulini do full justice to its ambitions. This record has been regarded at the time it was released as "one of the greatest Brahms recordings of all time" (Guide Diapason). 40 years after its original release, it remains an absolute must-have, and a reference recording of the Brahms Concerto. It also benefits from the 24-BIT/96kHz remastering done at Abbey Road in 2015.1. Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 77: I. Allegro non troppo - By Itzhak Perlman/Carlo Maria Giulini

Mad ScenesA few months after the release of the new Callas Live Remastered Edition, Warner Classics continue to release her legendary studio recitals on vinyl, using the state of the art remastering done in 2014. Mad Scenes (1958)Maria Callas did not make complete studio recordings of Donizetti's Anna Bolena and Bellini's Il pirata (these two operas are both available in the new Callas Live Edition), though, as the queen of La Scala, she enjoyed triumphs in both roles in 1957-1958. The vocally and dramatically demanding final scenes of both operas feature in this recital with OphÉlie's mad scene from Ambroise Thomas's Hamlet, another coloratura extravaganza. When this recital first appeared in 1959, Gramophone wrote: 'This is a most remarkable record, not only for its material but for its astonishing vividness and dramatic poetry It has been a thing of much wonder for me.'1. The Perlman SoundNo one could deny that Itzhak Perlman holds a special place in the world of music - and no one could define it more eloquently than his old friend and colleague, the pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim: It is quite impossible to imagine today's violin heritage without the absolute musical genius of Perlman. The most obvious manifestation of that genius is the famous Perlman Sound - lustrous, warm and generous, its impact compounded by often astounding virtuosity; and yet Perlman makes it all look so easy. In fact, he communicates a positive joy in his playing.
Perlman Sound is released as a primer for the deluxe 59-album boxed set Itzhak Perlman: the Complete Warner Recordings, and may be a good option for fans who don't have enough shelf space for this expansive edition. This collection explores his artistry from the finest concerto highlights (Mendelssohn, Brahms, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Korngold, Sibelius, The Four Seasons), to virtuoso solo and chamber repertoire (Paganini Caprice No.24, Bach Partita No.3, the MÉditation from Thaïs, Flight of the Bumblebee, Zapateado) and klezmer and jazz selections. Lowell George's Final Masterpiece + 1 Bonus Track Not On Original Vinyl
Featuring Bonnie Raitt, Billy Payne, Richie Hayward, Fred Tackett, Nicky Hopkins, David Foster & More
Mastered Impeccably By Joe Reagoso From The Original Warner Bros. Tapes
For an artist who first gained success as a songwriter and moved on to a stunning career with his band of
renown Little Feat, the late great Lowell George continually proved to be a major force on the music scene for his short
time on earth. His music transcended all genres of music styles, fusing rock, R&B and folk landscapes with thought
provoking and stellar lyrical content during his successful reign on the album and radio charts.
After reaching very successful heights with Little Feat, Lowell decided it was time to record a solo album with
1979's Thanks I'll Eat It Here.
Thanks I'll Eat It Here finds Lowell George groovin' back to the earlier boogie and New Orleans rock and R&B
feel found on his earlier Little Feat albums. Released a very short time before his untimely death, the album included
his brilliant 20 Million Things, a funk infused Little Feat revisit with Two Trains, plus several inspiring collaborations
with notable friends like Van Dyke Parks and Little Feat's Fred Tackett, as well as significant cover versions like Allen
Toussaint's What Do You Want the Girl to Do, which the late artist truly made his own.
The all-star recording sessions included some of the finest talents and close friends like Bonnie Raitt, John David
Souther, John Phillips, Jim Keltner, Nicky Hopkins (Quicksilver, Rolling Stones) David Foster, Floyd Sneed and Jimmy
Greenspoon (Three Dog Night), David Paich and Jeff Porcaro (Toto), and of course a handful of the original Little Feat
alumni like Richie Hayward, Fred Tackett and Billy Payne.
Out-of-print on viny for several decades now, Friday Music is very honored to offer Lowell George's first and only
solo album Thanks I'll Eat It Here/The Deluxe Edition. For this special occasion, we are including the rare original CD
only release of Heartaches featuring a stellar duet with Valerie Carter.
In addition to the newly impeccably mastered original recording, we are also enclosing the original LP sized
artwork elements in a first time rare gatefold cover featuring Neon Park's stunning front cover, as well as liner notes
from Lowell George to enhance this wonderful and classic self-produced album.
Mastered impeccably from the original Warner Bros. tapes by Joe Reagoso (Warren Zevon/Boz Scaggs/Elvis
Presley), this amazing rock classic truly shines once again.

East Meets EastNigel Kennedy joins forces with the gifted Polish band Kroke to explore the musical roots of Eastern Europe while still injecting his own unique visions. The raw energy and haunting melodies of traditional tunes fascinated old masters such as Vivaldi and Bach, and they fascinate Nigel Kennedy. These aren't just a string of tunes to fill up a recording; they are individual excitements felt by Nigel and shared with you. Vibrant dance material driven almost to a frenzy, 'One Voice' is a simple melody played in turn on three instruments by three musicians of three faiths, 'Lost in Time' a haunting solo piece describing winter living conditions in a quarter of Poland. Again, very real, very personal; Nigel has a home in Poland. The spectacular record is a pure musical landscape capturing all the sunlight and shadows of his life.LP 1

DetourCyndi Lauper's celebrated musical journey takes an unexpected southern turn on DETOUR, her 11th studio album, which finds the Grammy®, Emmy® and Tony®-winning singer-songwriter putting her signature spin on a dozen classic country songs.
DETOUR showcases Lauper's unmistakable voice on country classics from the '40s, '50s and '60s and features guest appearances from county music stars Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss, and Willie Nelson. Lauper recorded the album in Nashville alongside a band comprised of the city's top session players.
The album is Lauper's first for Sire Records (Rhino) and is executive produced by legendary Sire founder, Seymour Stein.
Lauper says recording a country album is something she's dreamed about for many years. Growing up, she recalls listening to singers like Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Wanda Jackson in her Aunt Gracie's kitchen. When I was a really young kid, country music was pop music, so this is what we grew up listening to. These songs are part of some of my earliest memories so it has been an absolute thrill to revisit them.
Lauper sounds right at home from the start, beginning with the album opener, Funnel Of Love, a track Wanda Jackson, the Queen of Rockabilly, recorded in 1960. Another highlight is the rollicking take on Heartaches By The Number, a country standard previously covered by everyone from George Jones to Waylon Jennings to Dwight Yoakum. DETOUR also features stunning covers of two classic Pasty Cline songs, Walkin' After Midnight and her #1 smash, I Fall To Pieces. Lauper says, I spent a lot of time in my room singing with Patsy. I had to sing a Patsy Cline song - or two - because her voice was like one of my girlfriends. That's how close I felt to her.
For the album, Lauper duets with several special guests, including country music royalty: Emmylou Harris (on the title track), Willie Nelson (Night Life, a song he wrote over 50 years ago), Vince Gill (Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty's You're The Reason Our Kids Are Ugly) and Alison Krauss (Dolly Parton's Hard Candy Christmas. Jewel also makes an appearance on DETOUR, showcasing her prodigious yodeling skills on I Want To Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart, which was the first country song by a woman to sell one million copies.1.
