Who Me?"In contrast to his shambolic band's [the Beets] crude punkish impressions, the man's solo material hews more acoustic and bare, showcasing his warm voice and knack for, yes, poetry, that feels beamed in from a halcyon era." - Spin
Over ten years ago, a teenage Juan Wauters came to New York from Uruguay. Quickly after his arrival to the Big Apple, he turned to music to take control of the loneliness that came with his new surroundings. However, his isolation didn't last long though and, in the Queen's neighborhood Jackson Heights, he formed The Beets with new friends, garnering a reputation that allowed him to record three albums and tour the United States extensively. As the band began to slow down in 2012, Juan had more to say and he kept
going on his own with his debut solo album, N.A.P. North American Poetry, released on Captured Tracks in 2014.
Who Me? is the next chapter in the ongoing story of Juan Wauters. Whereas his debut solo record was recorded casually over the course of one year, his new album was crafted in under two weeks at Future Apple Tree in Rock Island, Illinois. Inspired by both the arrangements of Uruguayan songwriter Jaime Roos and the production of American master Dr. Dre, this collection of songs presents his continued approach to existential questioning through pop music. Tracks like "She Might Get Shot" and "I Was Well," which may seem like wisdom addressed to the listener, are in fact part of Juan's reciprocal process of self-actualization through songwriting and performing. Bringing new sounds to his repertoire, "This Is I" and "Through That Red" add a spiritual tone with ethereal string arrangements. Juan's voice - which has risen to the forefront of his music since his first recordings with The Beets - intensifies with added nuance. This year Juan Wauters will continue to tour the world in support of his second solo record.1. En Mi

The Who: The Studio Albums (Box Set)A Quick One Ranked 383/500 On Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time. The most explosive live act ever to appear on stage, The Who stands alone in rock music. Propelled by the most staggeringly brilliant rhythm section in all popular music, layered with deafening power chords and thunderous vocal fury, The Who transcended its original billing as "Maximum R&B" to become the most musically inventive and structurally innovative band of all time.Together, the four divergent personalities of The Who produced a hurricane. Each member of the group was a pioneer. Wildman drummer Keith Moon beat his kit with a chaotic elegance; stoic bassist John Entwistle held down the center with the melodic virtuosity of a solo guitarist; raging intellectual Pete Townshend punctuated the epic universality of his songs with the windmill slamming of his fingers across his guitar strings; and Roger Daltrey roared above it all with an impossibly virile macho swagger. They exploded conventional rhythm and blues structures, challenged pop music conventions, and redefined what was possible on stage, in the recording studio, and on vinyl. Never before or since has spiritual and intellectual brilliance sounded so gloriously furious!Alone among the great bands, The Who has found itself at the center of every major rock event from Monterey, Woodstock, and the Isle of Wight to the Concert for Kampuchea, Live Aid, and the Concert for NYC. In any era, The Who is a true touchstone for rock and roll greatness. They have sold over 100 million albums and won every award including Grammys, Brit Awards and Lifetime Achievement and have been inducted into both the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and UK Music Hall of Fame!Features:• Limited Edition Box Set• 11 studio albums (14 LPs in all), spanning from 1965 through 2006• Mastered by Jon Astley and Miles Showell at Close to the Edge and Metropolis Studios• All Original LP Artwork with Posters, Inserts & More! This title is not eligible for discount. My Generation (1965)1. The Who: Live At The Fillmore East 1968Universal Music will issue The Who Live at the Fillmore East 1968, a set of unreleased recordings from the second of two nights played at Bill Graham's legendary, but short-lived, venue in the Lower East Side of Manhattan.
The Who's manager Kit Lambert had recorded both the 5th and 6th of April shows of '68 with a view to issuing as The Who's fourth album after Sell Out. That never happened, but 50 years later sound engineer Bob Pridden (who was there in 1968) has restored and mixed songs from the 6 April show for this new archival release.
The setlist features extended versions of My Generation (33 minutes!), A Quick One , Shakin' All Over and many other Who classics. This will be issued as a gatefold triple vinyl set.LP 1

Researching The BluesRedd Kross is back and delivering their signature brand of genuine rock 'n' roll with a vengeance. Their Merge release Researching the Blues is the band's first new album in 15 years. Researching the Blues features 10 new songs clocking in at just under 32 minutes. With songs written by Jeff McDonald and produced and mixed by Steven McDonald, the album is by far the band's favorite record. Steve says, "It has the most singular artistic vision of any record we've done. It's just 10 really fucking awesome songs that have the ability to move you in many different ways."
Founded 34 years ago in Los Angeles during the first wave of LA punk rock by brothers Jeff and Steven McDonald (then respectively 15 and 11 years old), Redd Kross cut their teeth opening for Black Flag at a middle school graduation party. Their debut recordings caught the attention of Rodney Bingenheimer, who quickly became a fan as he spun their Ramones-inspired songs like "Annette's Got The Hits" and "I Hate My School" on the world-famous KROQ.
In 2006, Jeff and Steven announced their reunion with the "classic Neurotica" line-up, joined once again by guitarist Robert Hecker (It's Ok) and drummer Roy McDonald (The Muffs). Redd Kross have been playing to enthusiastic audiences at sold-out select shows and festivals such as the Azkena Festival; Coachella; The HooDoo Gurus' Invitational, "Dig It Up"; All Tomorrow's Parties; and Pop MontrÉal.1. Like Some Kind Of Alien InvasionWith a musical career spanning more than thirty-five years, guitarist, sonic innovator, and two time Grammy nominee Tim Reynolds is known for his masterful command of melody and timing and for his uncanny ability to improvise on any instrument he touches. Having explored most musical styles, from rock, jazz and blues to classical and reggae, Reynolds' wide-ranging musical versatility is evident each time he picks up his electric or acoustic guitar. Technically brilliant, yet emotionally honest, Reynolds' music is inspired and authentic.
It was in the mid 1980s in Charlottesville, VA, when Reynolds founded his breakthrough electric power trio, TR3 (Tim Reynolds 3), known for their fusion of funk, rock, and jazz. He toured with TR3 during the 1980s and 1990s, using a rotating cast of musicians. It was at this time that he befriended Dave Matthews and their ongoing musical collaboration began. Tim eventually decided to relocate to Santa Fe, NM, and pursue a solo career. His musical progression continued throughout his many years on the road as a solo guitar wizard, playing for packed houses and to crowds who quickly determined that Reynolds is one of the most talented and thoughtful musicians on the circuit today. After a number of years in New Mexico, Reynolds relocated to the Outer Banks of North Carolina in 2007. After a chance meeting with two talented musicians, bass player
Mick Vaughn and drummer Dan Martier, a few rehearsals later and several stealth appearances throughout North Carolina, Reynolds decided to resurrect the electric TR3 and they've been touring ever since.1. I.C.U.

Inviting LightPressed On Colored Vinyl
Every now and then a band comes along and speaks to the hearts of adolescents everywhere, as the true voice of their community. In the punk rock community, The Flatliners are that band right now. Their anthemic punk rock classics quickly catapulted them to the top of the scene, and the bands who inspired them quickly became their peers. In an age when overnight internet sensations are an everyday occurrence, it's hard to find a band that's grown organically, using word of mouth and non-stop touring to win fans over one show at a time.
Since 2002, The Flatliners have been busy touring the world over with the likes of NOFX, Bad Religion, Pennywise and Hot Water Music, as well as multiple stints on the Vans Warped Tour. "Inviting Light" is the band's 5th full-length album and is easily the band's strongest material to date. "Inviting Light" includes 12 melodic, catchy songs that will stay stuck in your head for months to come. It's the band's most mature effort, as it leans more rock than punk, but it doesn't alienate the band's core audience. It showcases them at the top of their game, as true masters of their craft.1. Pop Life (Single)12 Maxi-Single Reissue
Featuring Pop Life (Fresh Dance Mix) And Hello (12 Extended Remix Version)
Pop Life is a 1985 song by Prince and The Revolution. It was the second US (and final UK) single from their 1985 album, Around the World in a Day, reaching number 7 in the US charts. The song starts with a faded-in synth line and quickly starts the main tune. The easy groove is achieved with a smooth bass guitar and piano embellishments. A drum machine provides handclaps to make the song danceable. Pop Life was recorded before Purple Rain was completed, indicating the new direction Prince wanted to take after the success of that album and film.
The B-side of the track is Hello, written quickly as a response to those who criticized Prince's lack of participation in the We Are the World event. The angry lyrics lambaste the prying media and false friendships, and is driven by a pulsing beat. The extended version of the song ends with a spoken word by Prince, which contain some self-humor about his high-heeled shoes.1. Pop Life (Fresh Dance Mix)

Love Can Change Everything: Demos 1967-1972 (Discontinued)Hollywood's Sunset Strip was fertile breeding ground for folk-rock songwriters on the make during the mid-'60s. One of these kids with an acoustic guitar jumped right into a historically important album project within weeks of his arrival. Michael Fennelly quickly became one-seventh of The Millennium, who produced Begin, a lush audio carpetorium of an album that found a cult audience upon its reissue thirty years later. After the Millennium shattered, Fennelly jumped directly into his next effort, the power pop legends Crabby Appleton. The group managed to crack the American Bandstand market with"Go Back," a big hit on the charts and a prized fave among pop collectors today. Love Can Change Everything: Demos 1967-1972 charts the development of Fennelly as a songwriter.
Starting with his earliest demos produced during the Millennium era and closing with stripped-down renditions of his Crabby Appleton songs, Love Can Change Everything makes the argument for Fennelly as a power-pop legend, a man whose way with a melody and a crystal-clear voice earned him a deserved spot in the LA pop pantheon. None of this material has ever appeared before, in any format - Love Can Change Everything is a true lost classic in the making. Featuring liner notes from legendary pop writer Domenic Priore and detailed track notes from Michael Fennelly himself!LP1

One can hardly imagine Prince, Erykah Badu, or Outkast without the influence of Betty Davis. Her style of raw and revelatory punk-funk defies any notions that women can't be visionaries in the worlds of rock and pop. In recent years, rappers from Ice Cube to Talib Kweli have rhymed over her intensely strong but sensual music. Betty penned the song ''Uptown'' for The Chambers Brothers and wrote the tunes that got The Commodores signed to Motown. The Detroit label soon came calling, pitching a Motown songwriting deal, which Betty turned down. Motown wanted to own everything. Heading to the UK, Marc Bolan of T. Rex urged the creative dynamo to start writing for herself. A common thread throughout Betty's career would be her unbending DIY ethic, which made her quickly turn down anyone who didn't fit with the vision. She would eventually say no to Eric Clapton as her album producer, seeing him as too banal. In 1968, she married Miles Davis and quickly influenced him on the magic of psychedelic rock along with introducing him to Jimi Hendrix-personally inspiring the classic album, Bitches Brew.
Miles and Betty fans have long debated the truth of a near mythological session recorded in Studios B and E at Columbia's 52nd Street Studios on May 14th and 20th, 1969. The landmark session was produced by Miles and Teo Macero and featured Betty on vocals, accompanied by Jimi Hendrix Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell, guitarist John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock on keys, and Dylan/Miles session bassist Harvey Brooks. Other players included bassist Billy Cox (Band of Gypsys), saxophonist Wayne Shorter, and organist Larry Young. Now, Light In The Attic, with full support from Betty herself, presents these recordings to the public for the very first time. These historic sessions-never heard, never bootlegged-predate Miles' revolutionary album, Bitches Brew, and are the true birth of Miles' jazz-rock explorations, along with the roots for Betty's groundbreaking funk that came years later, starting with her self-titled debut in 1973. While, ultimately, these recordings would go unreleased for nearly half a century, they would greatly shape each of their careers.
The vibe is intrinsically unique, fresh, and futuristic-jazz heavyweights playing psychedelia, rock, and jazz-fusion long before the term became commonplace. The songs include Betty originals and covers of classics by Creedence and Cream. The concepts explored on these previously unheard sessions fueled concepts that wouldn't be fully realized until years later with Miles' seminal On The Corner.
Additionally, included here is the first time rerelease of a 1968 Columbia single, recorded in October 1968 at Columbia Studios in Los Angeles. The session was produced by Jerry Fuller and featured South African maverick Hugh Masekela on trumpet and arrangements, plus members of jazz-funk pioneers The Crusaders-including trombonist Wayne Henderson and pianist Joe Sample. Two of the three tracks included here from this session are previously unreleased.
This deluxe package is a treasure trove for both Betty and Miles fans, including rare documents from the pen of co-producer Teo Macero, rarely seen photos from legendary photographer Baron Wolman, and new interviews with Mrs. Davis herself, Harvey Brooks, and Hugh Masekela-the entire project overseen with Betty's full blessing.1. Paul WalkerConsisting of Patrick Kindlon (End of A Year, Self Defense Family), Chris Villeneuve (drums), Nick Cogan (guitar), Cory Galusha (guitar) and Pat Wynne (bass), Drug Church is the sound garbage makes when thrown off a roof into the dumpster your dickhead boss rented for your underpaying contractor gig. Come back in a few weeks and steal the copper piping because there's no other benefit to the job and you're probably getting sick from asbestos, so to hell with it.
Borrowing heavily from bands like Seaweed and Quicksand, Drug Church released their debut, self-titled EP in July of 2012, the perfect record to listen to as you skate home from your night shift cleaning up puke in the bathroom of a Steak & Shake. It even scored the band a spot on Alternative Press' "100 Bands You Need To Know" list earlier this year!
2013 rolled around the guys took a break from delivering pizzas and entered the studio to record their first full-length, Paul Walker; surely named for their secret obsession with 'Varsity Blues' and 'Eight Below.' And the thought of letting these dudes wild again in the studio scared the shit out of No Sleep President Chris Hansen; rightfully so!
No Sleep offered us a bunch of money and suggested producers to record this LP with and we said, 'Bro. You forgot the struggle, you forgot the streets," Kindlon says. "We're recording this as the coregods intended: Quick and nasty.' So what's what we did. Pushpit.
Nonetheless, the guys somehow managed to crank out ten of the gnarliest tracks you'll hear all year long, including the new song, "Donny's Woods."
For everyone who ever thought about faking their own death, we present 'Donny's Woods' a song about how quickly people will forget about your ass, Kindlon tells AltPress.com.

Fried ShallotsIn order to survive this long hot season of discontent, you gotta have something new to turn up and tune into! It's vital to chew down on stuff that's not just all negativity, you know? If you wanna stay positive, throw Ty Segall's Fried Shallots into your brain pan and flame on for a quick snack.
Fried Shallots is a handful of numbers from different times and places over the past few years that all work together in a weird way. That's something that we should all be striving for: all working together in a weird way. For Ty, that requires rock with the gears shifting and stripping, tempos and tropes mashing up; a primal outburst, a quick-and-fuzzy soundtrack of rock, folk, r'n'b and pure power pop, to give us a chance to chill and do the new century twist for just a minute. That's good, for in twist we trust!
Fried Shallots isn't simply just good fun. The profits from this release will be donated to the American Civil Liberties Union, whose defense of our rights is badly needed now - especially in the face of the government pigs who don't care about the constitution and are determined to thin our herd so that they and their corporate sugar-daddys can grow ever fatter off the deprivations of the common man-clan! Don't you let 'em do it! Organizations like the ACLU help secure freedoms that allow individuals to stay individual in the face of the choking tides of oppression. Betty Davis (Awaiting Repress)One can hardly imagine the genre-busting, culture-crossing musical magic of Outkast, Prince, Erykah Badu, Rick James, The Roots, or even the early Red Hot Chili Peppers without the influence of R&B pioneer Betty Davis. Her style of raw and revelatory punk-funk defies any notions that women can't be visionaries in the worlds of rock and pop. In recent years, rappers from Ice Cube to Talib Kweli to Ludacris have rhymed over her intensely strong but sensual music.
There is one testimonial about Betty Davis that is universal: she was a woman ahead of her time. In our contemporary moment, this may not be as self-evident as it was thirty years ago - we live in an age that's been profoundly changed by flamboyant flaunting of female sexuality: from Parlet to Madonna, Lil Kim to Kelis. Yet, back in 1973 when Betty Davis first showed up in her silver go-go boots, dazzling smile and towering Afro, who could you possibly have compared her to? Marva Whitney had the voice but not the independence. Labelle wouldn't get sexy with their "Lady Marmalade" for another year while Millie Jackson wasn't "Feelin' Bitchy" until 1977. Even Tina Turner, the most obvious predecessor to Betty's fierce style wasn't completely out of Ike's shadow until later in the decade.
Ms. Davis's unique story, still sadly mostly unknown, is unlike any other in popular music. Betty wrote the song "Uptown" for the Chambers Brothers before marrying Miles Davis in the late '60s, influencing him with psychedelic rock, and introducing him to Jimi Hendrix - personally inspiring the classic album 'Bitches Brew.'
But her songwriting ability was way ahead of its time as well. Betty not only wrote every song she ever recorded and produced every album after her first, but the young woman penned the tunes that got The Commodores signed to Motown. The Detroit label soon came calling, pitching a Motown songwriting deal, which Betty turned down. Motown wanted to own everything. Heading to the UK, Marc Bolan of T. Rex urged the creative dynamo to start writing for herself. A common thread throughout Betty's career would be her unbending Do-It-Yourself ethic, which made her quickly turn down anyone who didn't fit with the vision. She would eventually say no to Eric Clapton as her album producer, seeing him as too banal.
In 1973, Davis would finally kick off her cosmic career with an amazingly progressive hard funk and sweet soul self-titled debut. Davis showcased her fiercely unique talent and features such gems as "If I'm In Luck I Might Get Picked Up" and "Game Is My Middle Name." The album Betty Davis was recorded with Sly & The Family Stone's rhythm section, sharply produced by Sly Stone drummer Greg Errico, and featured backing vocals from Sylvester and the Pointer Sisters.1. New SkinNew Skin is the debut album of CRX a new project for STROKES lead guitarist Nick Valensi. The urge to begin a new project came from a primal place for Valensi, he just wanted to play. I was at a place where I got really hungry to perform in front of audiences, and do things a little more simply, Valensi says. The Strokes don't play that often anymore, and when we do it's awesome, but it got to the point where I needed to balance that out with a project I could take on tour whenever I wanted to. And the idea of playing clubs again was really exciting to me. But Valensi couldn't start playing until he'd written some songs, and he realized he'd have to finally embrace an aspect of performing he'd resisted up until that point -- singing. Last summer, he just dug in, grabbing whatever spare time he had to record demos on his laptop at home. It was a learning process, says Valensi. It took me some time to figure out how my voice sounds most natural, and to think about what I wanted to say.
As the songs progressed, Valensi invited a few trusted musician friends to join him and to contribute as songwriters. In addition to Valensi on guitar and vocals, CRX includes bassist Jon Safley, keyboardist/vocalist Richie Follin, drummer Ralph Alexander, and guitarist Darian Zahedi. Once we were all in a room together, it got collaborative pretty quickly, Valensi says, noting that about half of New Skin s ten tracks are co-writes with the band.
After demoing several songs, Valensi reached out to Queens of the Stone-Age's Josh Homme, for feedback on the tracks and advice regarding producers who might be right for the band. It quickly became apparent that there was no better person for the job than Homme himself. He was really enthusiastic about the demos, says Valensi. There were even specific things he loved from the demos so much that we ended up including them on the album, which was very much a Josh decision.
New Skin was recorded at Homme's Pink Duck Studios in Burbank, with work wrapping up in early 2016. And even as this year marks the fifteenth anniversary of The Strokes first LP, it represents the beginning of a promising new chapter for Valensi. One of the coolest things for me is that I began making this record as a vehicle to get onstage, he says, but along the way, it started to feel like we were working on something more special than that. I'm excited to be singing and having a lot of fun with it, and I'm really enjoying the feeling of having to work hard to win people over. It's like being a kid again - like everything is new and kind of scary but irresistibly fun, too.1. Ways to Fake It

ZombieOn the title track of 1976's Zombie, Fela and the backup singers ridicule the mindset of men in uniform over an urgent, quick-march accompaniment from Afrika 70. "Attention! Quick march! Slow march! Salute!" sings Fela, "Fall in! Fall out! Fall down! Go and kill! Go and die! Go and quench!" Each phrase is followed by the women singers' taunting response, "Zombie!" Just a few months later on 18 February, 1977, around 1,000 soldiers, most of them armed, swooped on the Kalakuta Republic. Fela was badly beaten, sustaining a fractured skull and several
broken bones. His mother, then aged 77, was thrown out of a window, fracturing a leg and suffering deep trauma. The army then set fire to the compound and prevented the fire brigade reaching the area. The blaze gutted the premises, destroying six Afrika 70 vehicles, all Fela's master tapes and band equipment, a four-track recording studio, all the residents' belongings and, for good measure, the free medical clinic run by Fela's brother, Dr Beko Ransome Kuti (who was also severely beaten in the attack). The first journalists to arrive on the scene were assaulted by soldiers. Inquisitive passers-by were similarly set upon. The army didn't want any witnesses.1. Zombie

Knight VisionThe Christian rock scene is replete with slick, careerist bands whose lyrics gingerly tread on the ecumenical outskirts of religious allusions in an attempt to alienate as few mainstream rock consumers as possible. It's no wonder that The Knights of the New Crusade, with their resolute unconcern for compromise (Matthew 16:26), became a flashpoint for contention in both the Christian and secular rock music worlds.
Their first album, 2004's My God Is Alive! Sorry About Yours!, combined gut-level garage punk music and unrepentant Christian lyrics to make Christian rock relevant in a way it had never been before. The Pharisees of the Christian rock establishment were quick to make their disapproval known, and the Knights of the New Crusade answered with their Kierkegaardean opus Knight Beat: A Challenge to the Cowards of Christendom, a rallying cry for true disciples of Christ who were tired of the hypocritical Christianity prevalent in our society.
Now, the Knights and Alternative Tentacles bring you Knight Vision: Hymns for the Invisible Church, a rich and deep tapestry displaying their spiritual, intellectual, and musical development. An Eastern mysticism may be identified amid the solid garage rock foundations, but do not let such elements obfuscate the nature of Knights' dedication to Christendom.1. The StormZZ Ward didn't have to look far for inspiration on her second full-length album, 2017's The Storm. Equally evocative of blues grit and hip-hop bounce, the Los Angeles-based vocal powerhouse and multi-instrumentalist leapt forward by taking a deeper look at some of her earliest inspirations including Howlin Wolf, Robert Johnson, and Vera Ward Hall and Big Mama Thornton.
For me, this album wasn't really about experimenting, she admits. It was more about simplicity, honing in on what I love about music and what makes me who I am as an artist. Growing up, I listened to a lot of hip-hop and blues, and I love those two genres so much. Sometimes, to evolve you don t need to go outside of yourself; you can reach further inside of yourself instead.
It s a realization earned over a whirlwind five years. The Fedora-rocking, guitar-shredding, harmonica-wielding blues siren peppered an old back porch musical recipe with hip-hop urgency and hashtaggable wisdom on her 2012 mixtape Eleven Roses. Followed by her full-length debut Til The Casket Drops yielded a veritable hit in the form of Put The Gun Down. The latter generated 7.4 million-plus Spotify streams and held strong in the Top 10 of AAA radio for 10 weeks as well as receiving over 100 high-profile licensing placements and syncs, including the feature film We re The Millers. Kendrick Lamar [ Cryin Wolf ] and Freddie Gibbs [ Criminal ] were quick to collaborate, while Rolling Stone, Guitar World, Elle, Interview Magazine, USA Today, NPR and more extolled her.1. Ghost

FiveThe number five holds a deep significance. We have five senses. Five points adorn a star. Five represents man in theology. For the five members of Hollywood Undead-Johnny 3 Tears, J-Dog, Charlie Scene, Funny Man, and Danny-the digit perfectly encapsulates their fifth full-length offering- V (FIVE).
The band recently announced the album's first single, California Dreaming. Powered by neck-snapping guitars and fast and furious bars, the song cycles between guttural rapping and quick quips. Everything culminates on the choral chant We never sleep, in California we're dreaming.
It dissects both sides of California, J-Dog reveals. You've got the glitz, glamour, sun, and surf. Then, you've got the super fucked side of people not being able to afford rent, celebrities being assholes, and that fake façade. We wanted to do a heavy song with a Red Hot Chili Peppers-esque chorus. It's an old school vibe explored in a new way.
We're five brothers, and this is our fifth record, affirms Johnny 3 Tears. Nothing gets to the essence of the music like this number does. Numerology has a lot of power. When we said Five, it just made sense. The fact that we could all agree on one word codifies who we are. It also nods back to 'No. 5' from our first album, because it was our fifth song. Moreover, it hints at this secret society of fans supporting us for the past decade. The number is significant, and this is a significant moment for us.1. California Dreaming

RideFor his fiftieth birthday, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian wanted one present more than any other - the reunion of one of his favorite unsung heroes, Mother Superior - only he wanted to be a part of the lineup. They're a great, classic band that hit me in the same spot as all my favorite '70s bands, whether it's UFO, Ted Nugent, Cheap Trick or KISS, Ian explains. I knew getting to play with them would be like joining KISS.
Thanks to Scott's wife Pearl Aday, who has been working with Mother Superior front man Jim Wilson for years, all it took was a quick phone call and the stage was literally set for Scott's dream gig.
The band, which quickly gained the interests of Joey Vera (Armored Saint/Fates Warning) and John Tempesta (White Zombie, The Cult) called itself Motor Sister after the Mother Superior song Little Motor Sister and got together the day before the party to rehearse in Ian's jam room. The energy in the room was amazing, Ian says. It felt awesome. It was just something we did for fun and to celebrate my birthday.
The minute I started to play with Scott, Joey and John the chemistry was amazing, Wilson says. We sounded like a band that had been together forever. Enthralled at the idea of making a record of his favorite Mother Superior songs, Ian contacted producer Jay Ruston (Anthrax, Steel Panther, Stone Sour) and asked if he thought it was possible to recapture the same spontaneous energy generated at their makeshift gig. He said, 'Yeah, we can make the record in two days and we can make it sound really good.' So that's what we did, Ian says. A week and a half later, we made the record in LA over a two day period. We recorded the whole thing live in the studio.
While everyone in Motor Sister is busy with their day jobs, they are all interested in playing live as much as possible. We are a great live band Ian says. We proved it to ourselves in my jam room. It was our ability to play live together that made this happen and I can see us getting onstage and playing this shit back-to-back, Ramones-style, and just blowing people's minds with the power of these songs. And the door is always open to write more material because Pearl and Jim are always working together and I'm always with them. So we'll see what happens in the future.LP 1

Band Of GypsysImport
The Jimi Hendrix Experience disbanded after 3 albums, but Jimi quickly formed a new band with bassist Billy Cox and his drummer friend Buddy Miles; the Band of Gypsys. Musically the Band of Gypsys leaned more towards Jimi's funk/R&B roots than the psychedelic rock sound of the Experience.
The Band of Gypsys made their live debut at the Fillmore East on New Year's Eve, 1969, for a series of four shows spread over two nights. A compilation of these shows saw the light as the eponymous live album 'Band of Gypsys'. Containing definitive versions of Machine Gun and Who Knows!

Bo Diddley's A TwisterImport
Originally Released On Checker In 1962
Everybody, so it seemed, recorded a twist album in the aftermath of Chubby Checkers twice chart topping hit single. New and established artists alike rushed into the studio to record albums as quickly as possible before the fad ended. According to the original sleevenotes for Bo Diddleys A Twister, Bo was recording twist music a good five years before it became popular. That may well be so, but even he was not above recording one entirely dedicated song in The Twister for his latest album, as well as revisiting Who Do You Love from 1957 and giving it a new arrangement.1.
