The First Blossoming Of One Of The Truly Singular Talents In American Music
For the series of sessions that laid the foundation for Willie Nelson's career and thus changed the course of modern country music, these recordings have been treated pretty cavalierly over the years. But first, a little history Willie Nelson was a struggling songwriter, hungry for work and maybe even just plain hungry, when he moved to Nashville in late 1960 with his wife and kids and met Hank Cochran, who was a writer for Pamper Music. Pamper, which was owned by country star Ray Price, fiddle player Hal Smith, and a baker (!) from Pico Rivera, California named Claude Caviness, was the hottest publishing company in town, thanks to writers like Cochran and Harlan Howard and songs like "Heartaches by the Number" and "I Fall to Pieces." At first, Willie wasn't going to sign with Pamper because Hal Smith wouldn't give Willie the draw he needed, but Cochran told Smith to front Willie fifty bucks a week from his own draw. So Willie, determined to reward Cochran's trust, got to work. "I was writing to prove I could write," he said. "To get the money and feel like I was earning it." He would end most work days with a new song, and then he and Cochran would call a session with A-team musicians who didn't have major label studio work that day. The result: a body of work that just may well represent the most fertile creative period ever to issue from a country songwriter.
The songs Willie recorded for Pamper during the early '60s remain among his most famous, and include tunes he still performs to this day: "Crazy," "Funny (How Time Slips Away),' "Night Life," "Pretty Paper," "Half a Man," "Hello Walls," "Healing Hands of Time," and more. And these, the Pamper demos, are the first recordings of those legendary songs. In other words, this is what artists and label guys back in the day heard when Hal Smith or Hank Cochran handed over a little acetate, and said, "Hey, listen here to what our guy Willie Nelson just come up with." It simply doesn't get much more historic than that! But, for some reason, these demos have hitherto turned up in bits and pieces, mostly on budget packages with little documentation or care.
Now, finally, these incredibly important recordings are getting the respect they deserve. Things to Remember-The Pamper Demos brings together these 28 performances for the first time (several of which have hitherto eluded compilation), all remastered by Mike Milchner at SonicVision to sound much better than they ever have, and annotated by Grammy-winning writer Colin Escott, with photos courtesy of Bear Family label founder Richard Weize. Available from Real Gone Music as a gatefold , red vinyl double-LP limited to 1000 copies, this collection is indispensable for any Willie Nelson fan or any lover of great country music it's the first blossoming of one of our greatest songwriters, presented the way work of this stature should be, with great sound and packaging.LP 1

Johnny Cash was born during the great depression into a poor family in Arkansas. At a very young age, he worked on the family farm and experienced many of life's struggles. This is also the time he would develop his love for music, family and the Bible, which followed him closely throughout his long career.
In the early fifties after spending time in the Air Force, he moved to Memphis, became friends with folks like Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis, and ultimately cut some sides at Sun Studios which became the catalyst that would kick-start the beginnings of a soon to be worldwide superstar, troubadour and humanitarian unlike the world has ever known.
The folks at Columbia Records knew that this young fellow named Johnny Cash was destined for super stardom. They quickly signed the legend to a long-term deal, and his first singles like his Guess Things Happen That Way & Hey Porter etched The Man In Black trademark to his name.
In 1971 after many chart-topping country and pop albums and a bevy of hit singles and Grammy Awards, more fame followed as the brass at Columbia Records honored their journeyman Johnny Cash with his 2nd greatest hits collection, the gold and platinum smash Johnny Cash's Greatest Hits Volume II.
The album was a blockbuster as it hit the Top 5 in the charts, making this a crossover hit with both country and pop audiences, proving once again that his career was of historic merit. Filled with more hits than a roadside jukebox, the amazing album features his biggest hits like the groundbreaking Folsom Prison Blues and his Shel Silverstein classic A Boy Named Sue. The classic top charter duet with June Carter Cash If I Were A Carpenter is also included, followed up by one of his finest interpretations of his dear friend Kris Kristofferson's Sunday Mornin' Comin'Down.
More treasures follow with the country belter Big River and Cash's gospel smash of Daddy Sang Bass, which truly continues the treasure trove of hits contained in this masterwork.
In total, the album showcases eleven important Johnny Cash recordings which have truly gone on to become international classics for all time.

To All The Girls...Decades of heartfelt performances and compositions in popular music have long solidified Willie's reputation as one of country's greatest romantics. To All The Girls... continues Nelson's musicial relationships with some of the most talented women in country, pop, and soul.
Among the centerpieces of To All The Girls... is the emotional duet with Dolly Parton, From Here To The Moon and Back, a song Parton wrote for the 2012 motion picture Joyful Noise. Willie also tackles the Bill Withers' classic Grandma's Hands with Mavis Staples, duets with Sheryl Crow on The Great American Songbook selection Far Away Places, and brings a new shade to his self penned classic Always On My Mind with Carrie Underwood.
Willie is also joined by familiar contemporaries including Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss, Miranda Lambert, Norah Jones and Rosanne Cash. To All The Girls... reunites Willie with producer Buddy Cannon, who worked with Willie on his most recent successful releases, Heroes and Let's Face The Music And Dance.
Having turned 80 years old in April, Willie Nelson has no intentions of riding off into the sunset. Since signing to Legacy Recordings, Nelson has been steadily recording an releasing albums with the same rough-and-ready spirit of his timeless recordsing for RCA and Columbia Records. Heroes was praised by Uncut for being as spirited as it is poignant. Of 2013's Let's Face The Music And Dance, Paste cheered for his strongest and most engaged performances in a decade.LP 1

An American Classic: Gorgeous Breakthrough Album of Pop Standards Spent More than a Decade on Country Charts
Quintuple Platinum 1978 Set Finds Nelson Interpreting Fare From Likes of Kurt Weill, Hoagy Carmichael, and Irving Berlin
Sumptuous Sound Elevates Booker T. Jones Production: Mastered on Mobile Fidelitys World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI
As a Singer, Nelson Never Better: Gets Inside the Phrasing, Lyrics, and Emotions of Songs
Why be predictable?, Willie Nelson asked Columbia Records executive Nick Blackburn, after the latter resisted the Red Headed Strangers decision to make an album of classic pop tunes. Talk about outlaw country. Cutting against the genres traditions and Music Row conventions, Nelsons Stardust remains a genius-level creation as well as the icons most commercially successful release, a truly gorgeous record infused with ultimate respect for composers and lyrics and many of the finest performances of his career. It is a quintessential part of any catalog.
Mastered on Mobile Fidelitys world-renowned mastering system and pressed at RTI, this Silver Label LP dazzles with dead-quiet surfaces, tube-like warmth, and an enhanced soundstage. Further exposing the delicate touches abounding in Stax legend Booker T. Jones production, this edition brings out the textured kernels of Nelsons voiceand the deep-seeded dignity, austerity, devotion, grit, sensitivity, grace, and plaintiveness within it. His brilliant phrasing throughout is on par with that of Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles, two giants that influenced this project and his willingness to pair with strings and small combo to wondrous effect.
Having met Jones while living in Malibu, Nelson established a relationship with the musician that extended to roles as producer, arranger and band mate. Jones superior knowledge of the American Songbook comes through via the materials economy of scale and sympathetic approach. Acoustic guitar arpeggios, contrasting breaks, bluesy harmonicas, glowing organs, R&B-tinged horns, brushed drums, and relaxed bass lines trickle throughout the songs, all distinguished by Nelsons intimate timbre and absolutely astonishing vocal expressiveness.
In redefining and reimagining standards such as Irving Berlins Blue Skies, Hoagy Carmichaels Georgia On My Mind, and the age-old All of Meall of which landed in the Top 5 of the Country singles chartNelson wedded together pop, country, jazz, folk, and blues in a manner in which no artist had ever before done. He gained considerable rewards for his exquisite efforts: Stardust sold more than five million copies and, incredibly, stayed on the Country album charts for more than ten years.

Fat Possum proudly reissues four titles from his early career: Townes Van Zandt, Our Mother the Mountain, Delta Momma Blues and Flyin' Shoes which comprise an essential introduction to his best songs. Recorded between 1969 and 1978, Van Zandt's most prolific and most critically acclaimed decade, these four titles are the heart of any serious consideration of Van Zandt's musical career. Featuring some of the most iconic cover art in album history designed by Milton Glaser, each is a classic in every sense of the word. These four titles are the first in a series of Townes Van Zandt reissues that Fat Posssum is undertaking in conjuction with the Van Zandt estate.
The final Townes Van Zandt studio record before a nine-year-long mid-'70s recording drought, Flyin' Shoes has the advantage of Van Zandt's usual stellar songs, a famed producer (Chips Moman) and a boatload of first-class sidemen, including Jimmy Day, Randy Scrugg, and Spooner Oldham. The production is reasonably spare, allowing the quality of the songwriting and Van Zandt's creaky voice to shine through. Live At The Old Quarter, Houston Texas (Awaiting Repress)Culled from Townes Van Zandt's years of independently released country-folk records, this austere collection of songs here serves, in effect, as a greatest-hits package. Van Zandt's dry, narrative wit was the source of influence for such singer-songwriters as Lyle Lovett, Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris and Willie Nelson, and one would be hard-pressed to find a more simple, prettier love song than If I Needed You (a hit for Emmylou Harris) or a more riveting ballad than Kathleen, both sung with focused precision. Brand New Companion shows off Van Zandt's blues-picking expertise, Talking Thunderbird Blues demonstrates his wit and one of his best creations, For the Sake of the Song shows off his poetic strength.
