Willie Nelson Vinyl'
Flyin' ShoesWidely considered one of the greatest songwriters of his generation, Townes Van Zandt has been hailed by such artists as Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett and Willie Nelson among others. Fat Possum proudly reissues four titles from his early career: Townes Van Zandt, Our Mother the Mountain, Delta Momma Blues and Flyin' Shoes which comprise an essential introduction to his best songs. Recorded between 1969 and 1978, Van Zandt's most prolific and most critically acclaimed decade, these four titles are the heart of any serious consideration of Van Zandt's musical career. Featuring some of the most iconic cover art in album history designed by Milton Glaser, each is a classic in every sense of the word. These four titles are the first in a series of Townes Van Zandt reissues that Fat Posssum is undertaking in conjuction with the Van Zandt estate.
The final Townes Van Zandt studio record before a nine-year-long mid-'70s recording drought, Flyin' Shoes has the advantage of Van Zandt's usual stellar songs, a famed producer (Chips Moman) and a boatload of first-class sidemen, including Jimmy Day, Randy Scrugg, and Spooner Oldham. The production is reasonably spare, allowing the quality of the songwriting and Van Zandt's creaky voice to shine through. Stand out tracks include Snake Song, No Place to Fall, When She Don't Need Me and a rare cover of Bo Diddley's Who Do You Love.1. Loretta

An American Classic: Gorgeous Breakthrough Album of Pop Standards Spent More than a Decade on Country Charts
Quintuple Platinum 1978 Set Finds Nelson Interpreting Fare From Likes of Kurt Weill, Hoagy Carmichael, and Irving Berlin
Sumptuous Sound Elevates Booker T. Jones Production: Mastered on Mobile Fidelitys World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI
As a Singer, Nelson Never Better: Gets Inside the Phrasing, Lyrics, and Emotions of Songs
Why be predictable?, Willie Nelson asked Columbia Records executive Nick Blackburn, after the latter resisted the Red Headed Strangers decision to make an album of classic pop tunes. Talk about outlaw country. Cutting against the genres traditions and Music Row conventions, Nelsons Stardust remains a genius-level creation as well as the icons most commercially successful release, a truly gorgeous record infused with ultimate respect for composers and lyrics and many of the finest performances of his career. It is a quintessential part of any catalog.
Mastered on Mobile Fidelitys world-renowned mastering system and pressed at RTI, this Silver Label LP dazzles with dead-quiet surfaces, tube-like warmth, and an enhanced soundstage. Further exposing the delicate touches abounding in Stax legend Booker T. Jones production, this edition brings out the textured kernels of Nelsons voiceand the deep-seeded dignity, austerity, devotion, grit, sensitivity, grace, and plaintiveness within it. His brilliant phrasing throughout is on par with that of Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles, two giants that influenced this project and his willingness to pair with strings and small combo to wondrous effect.
Having met Jones while living in Malibu, Nelson established a relationship with the musician that extended to roles as producer, arranger and band mate. Jones superior knowledge of the American Songbook comes through via the materials economy of scale and sympathetic approach. Acoustic guitar arpeggios, contrasting breaks, bluesy harmonicas, glowing organs, R&B-tinged horns, brushed drums, and relaxed bass lines trickle throughout the songs, all distinguished by Nelsons intimate timbre and absolutely astonishing vocal expressiveness.
In redefining and reimagining standards such as Irving Berlins Blue Skies, Hoagy Carmichaels Georgia On My Mind, and the age-old All of Meall of which landed in the Top 5 of the Country singles chartNelson wedded together pop, country, jazz, folk, and blues in a manner in which no artist had ever before done. He gained considerable rewards for his exquisite efforts: Stardust sold more than five million copies and, incredibly, stayed on the Country album charts for more than ten years.

Let's Face The Music And DanceThis year Willie Nelson turns 80 years old, a milestone which has not slowed down the American icon in the slightest. Following the success of 2012's Heroes, which debuted at #18 on the album charts (his highest chart debut in over 20 years), Willie returns with another brand new album featuring a selection of songs that are near and dear to him and his band "The Family." Like the man himself, this stunning collection is not easily dened as a set genre or style. They include American standards and country classics, Irving Berlin and Carl Perkins, Django Reinhart as well as Willie-penned originals. Yet the result is a beautiful, cohesive set - songs about love and reection - in Willie's inimitable style. Willie Hugh Nelson is an American musician, singer, songwriter, author, poet, actor, and activist. The critical success of the album Shotgun Willie (1973), combined with the critical and commercial success of Red Headed Stranger (1975) and Stardust (1978), made Nelson one of the most recognized artists in country music. He was one of the main figures of outlaw country, a subgenre of country music that developed in the late 1960s as a reaction to the conservative restrictions of the Nashville sound. Nelson has acted in over 30 films, co-authored several books, and has been involved in activism for the use of biofuels and the legalization of marijuana.1. You Left Me A Long, Long Time Ago

All My Favorite Singers Are Willie NelsonAstral Swan's All My Favorite Singers Are Willie Nelson is a collection of stark psychedelic folk from the unfiltered neuroses of Calgary's Matthew Swann. Songs steeped in universal anguish, marveling at the world's knack for enterprise and cannibalism, come across instead as subtle, reassuring lullabies. These are quiet, relatable anthems for the outsider set, balancing gentle melodies on Swann's self-obsession with moral fallibility. On first single "Beginning Of The End", Swann delves into the album's various drug states in his sweetly apprehensive tone, a lowly guitar dancing loosely with intoxicated children, asking: "Who told the kids in the yard that they're mostly dust? Now they just stay drunk. Keep getting more fucked up".
Equally inspired by serene 60's folk, 80's no-wave alienation, and the insouciance of 90's grunge, Astral Swans' music is spacious yet constrained, hauntingly personal and oddly sincere. The skeletal "Let Their Faces All Blur Out" races softly with the punk rock abandon of early Sonic Youth and Eric's Trip; "What Calms You Down, Freaks Me Out" bears the ominous pleasance of Syd Barrett, Arthur Russell, Nick Drake, and fellow Calgarian Chad VanGaalen. More structured than Swann's Extra Happy Ghost!!! project (produced by VanGaalen), this album's experimental spirit denies the haphazard "singer-songwriter" label that some might attach to Astral Swans.
Set for release on Dan Mangan's Madic Records, these twelve songs lavish in Swann's startlingly sardonic reflections, in his own words, "confronting our strange ways of experiencing personhood, in the moral gorge between ideals and inadequacies". Tracked live in Swann's living room, and later embellished in an old Calgary warehouse with local experimental/improv mainstay Brad Hawkins (Ghostkeeper), All My Favorite Singers Are Willie Nelson is flawed if not for its air of accidental perfection, normalizing existential struggle with rhythm and harmony, a natural marriage of the sweet to the acrid.1. Willie And The Boys: Willie's Stash Vol. 2Legacy Recordings is set to release Willie Nelson and the Boys, the eagerly-awaited second installment in the acclaimed Willie's Stash archival recordings series.
Following in the musical footsteps of 2014's December Day, the first volume in the Willie's Stash series (featuring Willie's Sister Bobbie), Willie Nelson and the Boys is another family collaboration, this time showcasing Willie and sons, Lukas Nelson and Micah Nelson, performing a selection of well-loved American country music standards and classics, including seven penned by the immortal Hank Williams Sr.
The Willie's Stash series will present a variety of archival releases, each personally curated by Willie Nelson, culled from decades of recording and touring, providing unique perspectives on one of America's most vital musical forces.
Consisting mainly of studio recordings laid down during the extraordinary 2011 sessions for Heroes, Willie's Legacy debut, Willie Nelson and the Boys (Willie's Stash, Vol. 2) is produced by Willie's longtime friend and collaborator Grammy-winning Buddy Cannon and recorded by Steve Chadie at Pedernales Recordings Studio in Austin, Texas.
Musicians on the album include Willie Nelson (vocals, Trigger), Lukas Nelson (vocals, electric guitar, resonator guitar), Micah Nelson (vocals), Mickey Raphael (harmonica), Kevin Swine Grantt (bass), Bobby Terry (acoustic guitar, electric guitar), Jim Moose Brown (piano, B-3 organ, Wurlitzer), Mike Johnson (steel guitar), Tony Creasman (drums), Barry Bales (upright bass on My Tears Fall) and Lonnie Wilson (drums on My Tears Fall). Move It On Over featured background vocals by the Spur Of The Moment Singers: Buddy Cannon, Mickey Raphael, Kevin Swine Grantt, Bobby Terry, Jim Moose Brown, Mike Johnson, Tony Creasman, Melonie Cannon, and Shannon Finnegan.
According to Willie, the album is ....kinda like the country version of 'Stardust.' Where you have all these great songs and standards that the young people have never heard, then all of a sudden you have a whole new audience out there.
I really love the live element of this record, said producer Buddy Cannon. There was a fire in the studio during those sessions, especially on these particular tracks. It was as though the band was in a Nashville honky tonk and Willie and Lukas strolled in and jammed with the band for an hour. That's what this record is. It's honest excitement. I've never cut a record before that has this element.... It's a great joy to see Willie, Luke and Micah all equally part of a record that I love so much.
Born in Austin, Texas and raised in Maui, singer/songwriter/guitarist Lukas Nelson entered the music scene as a youngster and, by the age of 13, had joined his father Willie Nelson's band, touring as rhythm guitarist and honing the stagecraft that lead to his own career. Moving to Los Angeles, he launched in own ensemble, Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real (POTR) in 2008; POTR served as Neil Young's back-up group on The Monsanto Years album and subsequent tour. Lukas and his father worked together on Willie's 2012 Legacy album, Heroes, which featured a number of father-and-son vocal-and-guitar duets.
Micah Nelson has performed with a variety of artists at events including FarmAid, Neil Young's Bridge-School Benefit, Desert Trip festival, Lightning in a Bottle, Coachella, Bonnaroo Festival as well as on TV shows such as Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel and more. Micah has been involved in the ensemble Insects vs. Robots, recorded and toured with Neil Young and made multi-instrumental contributions to the 21st century post-modern American rock band Promise Of The Real. UNIM-FAN-3498xLukas Nelson & The Promise of the Real
Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real (Awaiting Repress)Since their formation as teenagers 10 years ago, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real have quietly developed into one of America's most dazzling new live acts, playing hundreds of shows and major festivals all over the world, attracting a deeply devoted underground following.
Still, with a bounty of invaluable experience under their belts, nothing foretold the artistic leap of Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real their new, self-titled album, a mesmerizing, emotionally genuine, endlessly rewarding work of cosmic country soul set for release via Fantasy Records.
Recorded at The Village Studios in West Los Angeles Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real was produced by John Alagia (Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer) and features the band's new six-piece line-up: Lukas Nelson (guitar, vocals), Tato Melgar (percussion), Anthony LoGerfo (drums), Corey McCormick (bass, vocals) along with new members Jesse Siebenberg (steel guitars, Farfisa organ, vocals) and Alberto Bof (piano, Wurlitzer, B3). Jess Wolfe and Holly Lessig of the indie-pop group Lucius contribute background vocals on five tracks evoking Exile on Main St.'s ecstatic, gospel-rooted harmonies, and Lady Gaga added stirring background vocals to Carolina and Find Yourself. Elsewhere, the lilting, Glen Campbell inspired gem, Just Outside of Austin features a guitar solo from Lukas' dad, country music icon Willie Nelson, and piano from his 86-year-old Aunt Bobbi.
The new album includes 12 Lukas Nelson originals that draw on his country and rock lineage including literate Texas songsmiths like his father and 'uncles' Kris Kristofferson and Waylon Jennings, along with the enduring influence of J.J. Cale, The Band, Clapton-era Delaney & Bonnie and of course, his mentor Neil Young.
Young, an essential member of the POTR family, met the band after he caught them at Farm Aid several years back. Neil got in touch after that, and we started talking by email, Lukas recounts. Eventually, he asked us to record with him. We fell in love with each other musically, one thing led to another and we became Neil's band.
I knew I had a lot of good songs that transcended the cultural boundaries between rock & roll and country, Lukas says of his vision for the album. We owe a lot to Neil; we made this record after coming off the road with him for two years. Neil's been mentoring us, and we've been absorbing that energy, and I think it shows. We got acclimated to a different level of artistic expression. I wanted to get the songs as pure as they could be. We've grown.
Set Me Down on a Cloud, the soulful, country-rock epic that opens the album features Lucious' angelic background vocals and Lukas' lovely, lyrical guitar solo as the band stretches out behind him. Forget About Georgia unfolds to a Layla-like outpouring of yearning, as it vividly retraces the turbulent, bittersweet final stages of a doomed love affair. Lukas delivers a full-throttle vocal on the closing track, If I Started Over, a Roy Orbison-inspired rumination of tender devotion. The R&B grind of Find Yourself is a particular triumph as Lukas and Lady Gaga weave an impassioned, romantic ultimatum.1. Set Me Down On A Cloud

The First Blossoming Of One Of The Truly Singular Talents In American Music
For the series of sessions that laid the foundation for Willie Nelson's career and thus changed the course of modern country music, these recordings have been treated pretty cavalierly over the years. But first, a little history Willie Nelson was a struggling songwriter, hungry for work and maybe even just plain hungry, when he moved to Nashville in late 1960 with his wife and kids and met Hank Cochran, who was a writer for Pamper Music. Pamper, which was owned by country star Ray Price, fiddle player Hal Smith, and a baker (!) from Pico Rivera, California named Claude Caviness, was the hottest publishing company in town, thanks to writers like Cochran and Harlan Howard and songs like "Heartaches by the Number" and "I Fall to Pieces." At first, Willie wasn't going to sign with Pamper because Hal Smith wouldn't give Willie the draw he needed, but Cochran told Smith to front Willie fifty bucks a week from his own draw. So Willie, determined to reward Cochran's trust, got to work. "I was writing to prove I could write," he said. "To get the money and feel like I was earning it." He would end most work days with a new song, and then he and Cochran would call a session with A-team musicians who didn't have major label studio work that day. The result: a body of work that just may well represent the most fertile creative period ever to issue from a country songwriter.
The songs Willie recorded for Pamper during the early '60s remain among his most famous, and include tunes he still performs to this day: "Crazy," "Funny (How Time Slips Away),' "Night Life," "Pretty Paper," "Half a Man," "Hello Walls," "Healing Hands of Time," and more. And these, the Pamper demos, are the first recordings of those legendary songs. In other words, this is what artists and label guys back in the day heard when Hal Smith or Hank Cochran handed over a little acetate, and said, "Hey, listen here to what our guy Willie Nelson just come up with." It simply doesn't get much more historic than that! But, for some reason, these demos have hitherto turned up in bits and pieces, mostly on budget packages with little documentation or care.
Now, finally, these incredibly important recordings are getting the respect they deserve. Things to Remember-The Pamper Demos brings together these 28 performances for the first time (several of which have hitherto eluded compilation), all remastered by Mike Milchner at SonicVision to sound much better than they ever have, and annotated by Grammy-winning writer Colin Escott, with photos courtesy of Bear Family label founder Richard Weize. Available from Real Gone Music as a gatefold , red vinyl double-LP limited to 1000 copies, this collection is indispensable for any Willie Nelson fan or any lover of great country music it's the first blossoming of one of our greatest songwriters, presented the way work of this stature should be, with great sound and packaging.
