WishboneWishbone is the sophomore album from the British-born artist who calls New York City home. Recorded in Los Angeles with producer Ted Hutt (Gaslight Anthem, Lucero, Old Crow Medicine Show), the well crafted songs on Wishbone live up to the expectations put upon a young man the Wall Street Journal touted as a "promising talent" with "much more to say," after the release of his Liam Watson-produced debut album, A Winter Tale.
On Wishbone Long taps into a broader pallete of emotions than he has on past releases, eschewing melancholy and eloquently channeling anger and frustration into gritty, hard driving guitar parts (the majority of which are played by Long) that compliment his rough-hewn vocals. Steel guitar provides an apt counter balance, adding a hint of twang and drawn out expanse to the urgency put forth in the lyrics. Throughout the album Long displays his deft control of melody and tone, well practiced over many years of prolific songwriting.1. Devil Moon

Shadows (Awaiting Repress)Propelled by the stunning guitar heroics of brothers Pete and Jake Adams, Virginia's Valkyrie return with their third full length Shadows, one of the year's best guitar-driven, heavy rock records. Jam packed with harmonized leads, rich solos and melodic, blues-based riffs, Valkyrie sound like the perfect blend of American style doom rock bands like Pentagram or Spirit Caravan and classic hard rock like Thin Lizzy, Wishbone Ash, and Deep Purple. Where Pete Adams' other band Baroness focuses more on the modern proggy and poppy side of metal, Valkyrie looks to proto-metal trailblazers for influence while injecting plenty of current day inspiration. Produced by Sanford Parker (Pelican, Leviathan, YOB), Shadows is the perfect summer heavy rock record!1. Mountain Stomp

Black Light Syndrome (Awaiting Repress)This power trio has famous roots, and they've brought it all together masterfully. First cut The Sun Road starts off like a tune off of David Gilmour's first solo album and then vanishes into a driving, power-chorded surge of soulful rock. Next, Dark Corners is a massive rocker that pulls you under its powerful whirlpool of guitar/bass/drum frenzy. Stevens tortures the guitar into absolute submission without any predictable riffs. Levin looms everywhere, and Bozzio flows in a polyrhythmic jungle. Fine interactive tension and execution everywhere. This goes way beyond King Crimson's Red days.
Duende opens with flamenco guitar firebursts, and slowly builds into a decent Spanish-flavored piece. Not my favorite, but well done. The title cut, Black Light Syndrome, is obviously a play on Bozzio Levin Stevens. It is a slower-paced dirge and filled to the brim with a variety of well-executed riffs, basslines, and drum tech.
Falling in Circles is an early Floydscape dotted with Ronnie Montrose leads, a ballad of driving determination and resolve. Floods of Satriani, Wishbone Ash, Alvin Lee, Fripp, Buck Dharma, and even that Duane Allman tone.
Book of Hours took me right back to Wheels of Fire's Pressed Rat and Warthog, rainy-day dreamy afternoons with a fresh pot of designer coffee. Levin, Bozzio, and Stevens play off of one another precisely as one mind.
On the last cut, Chaos/Control, you hear that E7 breakdown from Hendrix's Midnight on War Heroes, and then a jazzy boogie in classic Frank Marino style is laid down. Stevens is a guitarist with a wide range of dynamics.

The Future In Whose Eyes?British Metal Forefathers SikTh Return With Their First Full-Length Album In 11 Years
SikTh pushed me in to the progressive genre. Death of a Dead Day is my jam - Spencer Sotelo (Periphery)
A keystone in the progressive metal genre, SikTh's legacy gave the inspiration for bands like Protest The Hero, Periphery, TesseracT and Animals As Leaders following their hiatus in 2007. Now in 2017 the intense and enigmatic frontman Mikee Goodman is joined by Alias' vocalist Joe Rosser for a unique double-vocal attack. The band also welcomed guest singer Spencer Sotelo from Periphery as SikTh's first ever guest performer on an album, cementing the relationship formed between the bands on their US tour in 2016.
Following their reformation at the UK's legendary Download Festival in 2014, SikTh have been teasing the metal scene with the release of mini-album Opacities in 2015, a support tour in the UK for Slipknot, their first ever US tour as the main support for Periphery, and a 6-week tour at the beginning of 2017 as the main support for Trivium in Europe and the UK. The band also released a deluxe edition of their most popular album Death of a Dead Day on its 10th anniversary through Peaceville in 2016.
Kicking off The Future In Whose Eyes? album campaign in February, the single No Wishbones became an instant favourite with streaming platforms; Spotify placed the track on their popular curated playlists New Metal Tracks, Top Tracks in Metal and Got Djent?; iTunes selected the single for their Hot Tracks in Metal promotions in both the UK and the US; and Deezer chose the track for their Metal New Releases playlist.
Mikee commented on the new album: Personally I feel this is our best album yet. The band has made incredible music, brutal, technically warped and also some psychedelic moments... we've done something special here. The SikTh frontman explained the artwork, created by Meats Meier, whose credits include the film Hellboy and TOOL: Meats Meier is an absolute genius, a visionary and a pioneer. We wanted something really special and we got it; the inspiration was the title itself, the constant evolution of humanity and the self-destructive nature of man."1. Vivid
