    Legendary Debut Album

Featuring The Hit Singles Nappy Heads, Vocab, And Boof Baf

Blunted On Reality is the 1994 debut album by Wyclef Jean, Lauryn Hill and Pras Michel, collectively known as The Fugees. The album contains less political lyrics than their second album The Score, but there definitively were political intentions.

As Wyclef Jean described the meaning of the title in an interview: When the cop is messing around with somebody for something that the person didn't do and they try to set 'em up, that makes me blunted on reality. When the government is taking money on arms and that money could be going back to the community it makes me blunted on reality. It's just awareness of what's going on that's what blunted on reality means

The album spawned 3 singles; Nappy Heads, Vocab and Boof Baf and started selling big quantities, eventually reaching gold and platinum status, after the release of their critically acclaimed album The Score in 1996.

The Fugees were an American Hip Hop group who rose to fame in the mid-1990s. Their repertoire included elements of Hip Hop, Soul and Caribbean music. The members of the group were rapper/singer/producer Wyclef Jean, rapper/singer/producer Lauryn Hill, and rapper Pras Michel.

The group recorded two albums - one of which, The Score from 1996 [MOVLP068] was a multi-Platinum and Grammy-winning success. In 2007, MTV ranked them the 9th greatest Hip Hop group of all time.

Refugee Camp (Bootleg Versions) is a remix album of a song selection from their 1994 debut Blunted On Reality and follow-up The Score, released in 1996. The album features eight tracks, including seven remixes, and one new recording. The album peaked at #127 on the Billboard 200 in the United States.

Imagine an album that could contain tracks by Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Elvis Costello, as well as Frank Sinatra, Cream, and Van Morrison. That's part of the lineup on this various-artists sampler of music used in the television series The Sopranos, music that dates from each of the last five decades of the 20th century, from Bo Diddley's 1950s hit ''I'm a Man'' to Eurythmics' ''I've Tried Everything'' from their 1999 reunion album, Peace. Familiar songs like Sinatra's ''It Was a Very Good Year'' are given a new flavor by being sequenced between very different yet oddly complementary songs. The most interesting moments, however, come with the less familiar material -- cast member ''Little Steven'' Van Zandt and the Disciples of Soul's ''Inside of Me,'' Elvis Costello & the Attractions' live take on ''Complicated Shadows,'' Wyclef Jean's rap over Sly & the Family Stone's ''Family Affair'' on ''Blood Is Thicker Than Water,'' which refers specifically to the mafia family story line of the show. The result sounds like an hour with the radio station of your dreams, which is what this kind of album aspires to be. ~ AllMusic Review by William Ruhlman
