    Shadows (Awaiting Repress)

Propelled by the stunning guitar heroics of brothers Pete and Jake Adams, Virginia's Valkyrie return with their third full length Shadows, one of the year's best guitar-driven, heavy rock records. Jam packed with harmonized leads, rich solos and melodic, blues-based riffs, Valkyrie sound like the perfect blend of American style doom rock bands like Pentagram or Spirit Caravan and classic hard rock like Thin Lizzy, Wishbone Ash, and Deep Purple. Where Pete Adams' other band Baroness focuses more on the modern proggy and poppy side of metal, Valkyrie looks to proto-metal trailblazers for influence while injecting plenty of current day inspiration. Produced by Sanford Parker (Pelican, Leviathan, YOB), Shadows is the perfect summer heavy rock record!

    God's Hooks

Ottawa, Ontario's BIIPIIGWAN may be one of the greatest bands you've never heard. There's really no other way to describe the music set forth on the band's first full-length, "God's Hooks," (recorded and produced by Fuck the Facts' Topon Das). A testament to killer songwriting, howled through a crashing pace of heinous sludge-hardcore and post-metal, the scope and execution of "God's Hooks," is on par with the emotional and musical epicness practiced by Unsane, Yob, Neurosis and Rwake.

Seven songs of angry doom, stripped down and driving, headed towards a raging crescendo of filth, truth and riffs handed down from a mountain of death. Hypnotic with glances of technical jams, BIIPIGWAN flow all up into your ears, like electric eels on a sacrilegious mission to overload the controls of the heart of the sun, in hopes the fiery mother of our universe, the sleeping hell giant, comes smashing down endlessly upon us until all time and space are rendered super heavy and loud.

    Ataraxia/Taraxis

Southern Lord is proud to unleash the long new EP from thunderous post-instrumental outfit Pelican. Ataraxia/Taraxis is the long awaited follow-up to their sprawling 2009 full length What We All Come To Need. With members now residing in separate cities, the EP represents a new chapter in the band's evolution with a re-energized focus on composition and the utilization of the recording studio as a creative tool in the songwriting process, yielding one of the most diverse efforts in the band's prolific discography.

The four new songs highlight the manifold sonic strengths of the band by delving into moments of triumphant melodic rock, smokey doom, ambient soundscapes, acoustic desert-folk, and minimalist electronics. In contrast to the EP's origin as the product of four different recording studios, including stints with engineers Sanford Parker (Twilight, Yob, Nachtmystium) and Aaron Harris (ISIS), the carefully crafted track listing boasts a cohesive narrative flow, lending the release an epic feel worthy of a full album. Deluxe vinyl version with thick Stoughton jacket.

    Terrestrial Grief

It's apparent from the get-go: Omotai is a band that know what they want to accomplish and how to knock it out. Following two US tours and supporting slots for The Sword, Yob, Dark Castle, Thrones, Big Business and countless others, Omotai release their follow-up LP Terrestrial Grief.

The songs are brief, frenetic explosions of sound, a deft blend of grindcore, sludge, progressive noise-rock, math metal and whatever else happens to be blowing the band's skirt up at the time, all of it reaching your ears sopping with distortion and twisted to superior volume. Melissa Lonchambon Ryan's omnipresent bass rumble lines up with Sam Waters' relentless guitar riffery like a taloned fist to a shredded glove, while Anthony Vallejo's incomparable percussive bloodlust feels more like machine-gun-equipped battalions bent on sheer attrition. All three members share vocal duties seamlessly, razored shrieks punctuated by Ryan's wispy alto, the lyrics an outlandish cocktail of drunken nihilism and avant-garde sci-fi. A tough band to pigeonhole, granted, but definitely one worth seeking out.

    Anthropos

''Woke up at dawn and felt a presence, nature spirits, observing me. Looked out through the window. Black shape. I went to the nearby forest and the journey had begun.Without a direct way, I went through the woods and crossed mountains. Suddenly elated by light, I was under the raven's wings. Numb. Awakened by a thud and the silhouettes of the three. Embrace. The circle was complete.'' -- Mother of God

Born in 2008 and raised on rock in MorgÄrdshammar, Sweden, the four-piece Mother of God cast off a lot of the retro '70s mentality of their countrymen in favor of a more modern approach.Well, 20 years more modern, anyway. Mother of God no doubt have some appreciation for the finer things in '70s rock - there are beards to prove it - but musically they incorporate influences from grunge and the heavy grooves of the early '90s. Bands like Soundgarden and Alice in Chains mesh their downtrodden grunge melodies alongside classic inspiration drawn from Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin.

These might sound like familiar elements - at least the names ring out - but Mother of God bring their own emotional spin to their Small Stone debut, Anthropos, and never quite cooperate with what you think they'll do next. The band has released two prior EPs - 2011's Forging a New Path and their debut - and they recorded and mixed Anthropos in BorlÄnge with Erik Nerback, Chris Goosman mastered, and Sanna Albenius, Robin Gnista and Alexander von Wieding provided art and layout design.

In addition to festival appearances at Getaway Rock, Wacken Open Air in Germany and Peace & Love, Mother of God have shared the stage with YOB, Dozer, Graveyard, Imperial State Electric and more, and they'll look to continue their live domination in Scandinavia and beyond in support of Anthropos, shoving their eclectic sound and undeniable hooks right in the faces of everyone who thinks they know what heavy rock should sound like.

    Silencing Machine (Out Of Stock)

Formed by Blake Judd and Pat Noctis McCormick in 2000, Chicago's Nachtmystium started off as a primitive 4-track black metal band. Over the years, they have progressed through many line-up changes (now featuring members of Wolves in the Throne Room, Avichi, Lord Mantis and Minsk) and the their sound has constantly evolved, stepping away from the typical black metal thematics and embracing disparate influences, while maintaining the raw and harsh edge that's unique to the black metal genre.

The incorporation of other influences has helped the band create a sound that is unique to them specifically, and will continue to work as an ever-expanding unit with the ultimate goal to create metal music that pushes boundaries and walks into unchartered territories. Recorded at Engine Studios with Sanford Parker (Yob, Pelican), Nachtmystium's massively anticipated fourth full-length, Silencing Machine, follows-up the critically acclaimed Addicts: Black Meddle Pt. II and is a 10-song sonic assault which showcases the band at their most prolific and most expansive sounding to date!
